The board of education in sayreville will continue the indefinite fit suspensions of five members of its football coaching staff. Suspensions were approved tonight as part of our agenda for the coaches. Reporter five football coaches including head coach george nadir has been suspended indefinitely. Seven players have been suspended several charged with sex crimes. At tuesday nights School Boards meeting many in attendance including players spoke up in support of the head coach. I just thought it was like overshot, like over exaggerated cause its just i know that its never happened any of the way anybody ever said. Knowing coach for four years i know he would never have a second tolerated any form of hazingly. Reporter the football season was canceled after allegations of hazing that allegedly took place inside the locker room on four separate occasions. Some feel the head coach is being made out to be a scapegoat but others arent so sure. If i was teaching math and stepped out to the hallway to speak to my supervisor for three or four minutes and this activity that took place in the locker room took place in the back of my classroom, man i think i would be out of the building in seconds. Reporter in the meantime as for the students who are charged with sex crimes, if theyre found guilty and convicted, theyll have to register as sex offenders. Police say that a driver lost control and slammed into a building at ninth and chestnut. The driver was hurt and taken to jefferson hospital. No one inside the building, though, was injured. Now to a wild ride. Dozens of people speeding through philadelphia streets for hours captivating some, terrorizing others. This dirt bike caravan was intended as a show of respect for a fellow rider who was murdered last week but it turned into a dangerous ride. It was a lawless reckless ride. Dozens of men on dirt bikes and atvs speeding through city streets. Fishtailing four wheelers and racing sometimes against the flow of traffic and terrifying pedestrians like this woman nearly run down in a crosswalk. It went on for hours and over several miles in southwest philadelphia, center city and north philadelphia. They even soon passed school buses packed with children wheelly popping thrill seekers putting young lives in danger. This is something we cant have. Reporter despite that and despite the fact that dirt bikes and atvs are illegal on city streets, chopper three saw not one traffic stop. The riders eventually gathered at a Memorial Service for noted dirt biker kyrell tyler a 23yearold father gunned down last week in southwest philadelphia. His mother tells Eyewitness News the display on city streets was a tribute to her son. Friends out here riding the bikes in his memory, you know, and theyve been very supportive. Everybody out here has been very supportive. Reporter Philadelphia Police report no accidents and no injuries from the caravan. Well, right now theres rain popping up in our area. Meteorologist kathy orr is tracking what we might see overnight. Area of rotating showers around the region heading towards the Delaware Valley moving toward the northeast. More to come overnight and even during the day tomorrow but there were storms earlier today especially in ocean county and chopper three captured some of these strong storms that had hail, frequent lightning and some of these storms showed some rotation within them creating a water spout off the jersey shore in ocean county. So, occasional rain for the next couple days and also talking about wind. Tomorrow morning when you wake up, hit the road winds gusting to 27 miles an hour in philadelphia, also in trenton, gusting to 29 in wilmington and gusting to 22 miles an hour in wildwood and those winds will be picking up over the next 24 to 36 hours. A young activist was recognized in philadelphia tonight for her courage and her pursuits so that every woman can have the right to an education. Reporter her words and experiences are well i dont understand her year, she was given philadelphias highest honor one she accepted gladly. 2014 Liberty Medal. Reporter in a touching tribute to freedom and education, 17yearold malala use use the youngest Nobel Prize Winner received this years Liberty Medal for her right to childrens right for education. I speak for those without voice. I speak for every child whose right to education has been neglected. Reporter at 11, malala began writing published journal entries about living under the taliban rule in pakistan and against keeping women out of school. I had two option. One was not to speak and wait to be killed and the second was to speak and then be killed and i chose the second one because i did not want to live in that situation of oppression. Reporter six years ago three taliban gunmen boarded her school bus and shot her in the head. I realized that liberty comes at a high price and the taliban, they take me in order to silence me. Weakness, fear and hopelessness died and strength, power and courage was born. The courage and hope embodied by malala should serve as a call to action. Thank you malala. Reporter malalas voice has inspired World Leaders and given hope to young women. Her journal entries were read on stage by local teens with their own accomplishments. She had a long fight and now shes here and her stories are being told everywhere. For her to go beyond those boundaries it really inspires everybody. Ben bradlee the long time editor to steered the Washington Post through watergate and the pentagon papers died after a long battle with alzheimers disease. In 2012 bradlee was awarded the congressional medal of freedom by president obama. He was 93 years old. A Philadelphia CityCouncil Committee advanced a bill that adds hate crimes to the citys code. The Public SafetyCommittee Held hearings on the bill that would cover crimes motivated by hate based on Sexual Orientation gender identity or disability. The bill was born from a crime that stunned many in the Community Back in september, a group of young men and women accused of assaulting a gay couple while allegedly yelling gay slurs. Watching that shameful video as a member of city council, for me the next question is, and what can the city do about this . Now, the bill would amend the city code to add penalties on top of crimes. 90 days could be addd to a jail term or a 2,000 fine could be imposed. This is not, however, amend the states criminal code. Lets go to the poconos now. School will reopen there tomorrow. Classes were canceled today because of a possible sighting of the accused state trooper killer eric frein yesterday. A Law Enforcement officer reportd that possible sighting near a post office in the town of swiftwater yesterday. That happened not far from Pocono Mountain East High School where there was another possible sighting reported on friday. Frein has been on the run for more than a month now. Theres new information tonight in the story we first told you about friday night. A suspect is in custody in connection with the murder of a correctional officer in southwest philadelphia. A relative found the body of freda denny inside of her home on 63rd street on friday night. Police say the suspect is a friend of the victim and is now being held on a probation violation. Investigators are waiting for dna tests to determine if hell be charged with murder. New at 11 oclock tonight police are searching for two suspects in a series of Atlantic County burglaries. Health officials in Hamilton TownshipMercer County now say that a child thought to have the virus has tested negative. This area of low pressure slowly pulls away and will take some of the heavy rain with it. For your wednesday rain and wind with winds gust to go 30 miles an hour, temps in the 60s. The wind around this low of course is counterclockwise so were getting this northerly wind and as the storm pulls away, it takes the rain and the wind into new england where the storm strengthens, well have gusts to 30 miles an hour late thursday and even thursday morning. Temperatures will be in the 50s and then friday we dry it out. It will be very pleasant long after the rain is gone. Still a little wind but temperatures will be back into the 60s.
