On the streets of baghdad this morning shiite men continued to flock to recruiting centers to sign up to fight in what is becoming a sectarian civilian war. They declare jihad. This newspaper headline says it all. Yesterday the countrys top shiite cleric said it was a religious duty for shiites to protection protect their holy ground from isis. So far the militants have faced little resistance. In mosul, iraqs second biggest city which fell on tuesday, they showed off their newly acquired u. S. Equipment, abandoned by the fleeing iraqi army. Tens of thousands of soldiers have simply stripped off their uniforms and one. This man claims he was one of a unit that tried to fight. I cant believe they gave up so quickly, he said. The taliban is supposed to resist for a few days. But they were fight 60 miles outside of the capital. In a statement theyre announcing strict islamic sharia law, women and children must stay at home alcohol is prohibit and hands and feet will be cut off. May have to fight back against an insurgency who has already acquired key territory and whos already marching closer and closer to baghdad. This should be a wakeup call. They have to be willing to make hard decisions and compromise on be f of the iraqi people in order to keep the people today. Iraqi troops supported by u. S. And billions of dollar have failed to defend key cities even abandoning their uniforms while the Iraqi Government is badly violent and has been unable to contain the bloodshed since the u. S. Nobody has an interest in seeing terrorists gain a foothold inside of iraq. The United States will do our part but understand ultimately its up to iraq as a United Nation to solve their problems. But for the United States at this stage, the options are limited. What went wrong here . We spent 25 billion rearming the iraqi Army Training them. Why has it collapsed . Well this is a crisis years in the making unfortunately anthony. Youve had sectarianism creeping into not just the politics but into the military of iraq a loss of faith and confidence in the military by the population and in particular the sunnis. Youve also had this creeping safe haven coming out of western iraq and norj syria where this group isis has gained strength and momentum. So this is not just a crisis of the last couple of weeks. This is a crisis years in the maker. Last night our Elizabeth Palmer reported there is evidence that some captured military equipment could be on its way to syria. That sounds like potentially a devastating situation. This is a regional conflict and problem. Certainly the sectarianism here can cause a problem in the region between sunnis and shia. This group isis recognizes this as a regional area. Theyre going to use the safe haven to advance their interests in both countries. Juan, what do you think ultimately is at stake for the u. S. And what is the president weighing given that . There are major issues at stake, anthony. You have the implosion of iraq itself perhaps split up into a kun oi of three or four parts. Sectarian warfare not just in iraq but the region. You have regional instability, refugees in places like turkey and jordan. And then ultimately you have the potential of a safe haven. A terrorist group that has tieing to al qaeda. This is a major problem for the u. S. Long and short term. Iraq will be on face the nation in the morning. The disease is particularly darjs in Young Children caution violent bouts of coughing and gasps for air. Carter evans reports its not epidemic. Reporter more than 800 cases have been reported in california in the last two weeks leading the department of Public Health declaring an epidemic on friday. There have already been more than 3,400 cases in the state so far this year causing the death of two infants. The younger you are, the worst the disease is. He specializes in pediatric Infectious Diseases at the ucla medical center. So far i think 60 are under 4 months of age and hospitalized. Whooping cough usually starting with symptoms and can lead to severe covering fits leaving those gasping for air. Experts say its cyclical, usually peaking innive five years. The last outbreak was 2010 when 9,000 were infected and some died. There were clusters of kids not vaccinated for whooping cough which is also known as pertussis pertussis. If you lived in a community that had a higher vaccine refusal, you have twice the outbreak. Reporter doctors say the best way to prevent whooping cough is vaccination and theyre suggesting that you vaccinate as soon as possible. More folks are cut off from those loans so they turn to the next best place they could take quick cash taking early withdrawals. Last year americans took some 60 60 billion in early withdrawals. It looks like the 401 k has become americas new piggy bank. Lets talk about. I dont think theyre aware of not only the penalties but the difficulty in repaying the money if you get it out. First of all if you take a hardship withdrawal, you cant put the money back and then youre usually barred from contributing for six months. At first it looks like a good deal if you take a loan out for yourself and you pay it back at low interest. What are we talking about . Were talking hardship loans. Loans could be a good idea. You take it out, pay interest back and put the money back into the plan. Its not taxable, okay. Loans can be particularly dangerous. If you take a loan and you suddenly lose your job, the loan has to be repaired within 90 days. You just lost your job. You dont have the money. It suddenly becomes taxable and its a combustible combination. Also if you have a loan from your 401 k plan and you lose your job and you take another job, you doechlt get the job until you pay it back. Statistically whos tapping these 401 k funds . Thats right. According to fidelity. Folks taking early withdrawals are 20 to 39. Theyre cashing out their 401 k plan whence they leave or take jobs. Some Older Workers are doing it too and 75 surveyed said why did they do it . Because they were struggling with everyday financial bills and obligations. It really is surprising. Septas Regional Rail is on strike. Contract negotiations between septa and two unions failed. That forced more than 400 workers to walk off the job after midnight. Now the Electrical Workers have been working without a contract since 2009. The engineers since 2010. Main sticking points are healthcare contributions and retroactive pay raises. Closer to earth the National Research Council Report says air Traffic Controllers are not getting enough rest and as a result puts passengers lives at risk. It first became an issue nearly three years ago when nearly a dozen of air Traffic Controllers were found sleeping on the job. Cbs news correspondent jeff pegues has more. Reporter across the country, 15,000 air Traffic Controllers monitor all the planes in the sky. It is a 24hour business and there is no room for error, but a government Study Concludes controllers may be getting fatigued because of the way their shifts are scheduled. During whats called the 221, controllers cram five shifts into four days. On the last day of their schedule, they work morning until early afternoon and then they return at midnight and stay on the job through the night. Dr. Amy pritchet helped conduct the research. The fatigue is pieg up and there are not long recuperative breaks between all of the shifts. Reporter controllers were discovered sleeping on the job. In a statement they took issue with the study saying the 221 actually produced less periods of fatigue risk to the overall schedule. Its a spectrum of problems and theres a genetic basis of an increasing number of people who are wondering what in the genetic bases is going on. We have a group where google and Autism Speaks have gotten together and theyve selected people with autism along with their families and theyre figuring out what the genomes look like and they triering to match up the genomes with the problems an hopefully over time theyll have some insights. Were looking at shark, swordfish, king mackerel tilefish. Those arent the most common fish but it should be easy to avoid them. The 20th century was the First Century that this was deemed a reasonable expectation. We were living well. Food and clothing and shelter were taken care of so this new goal emerged, to be happy. The 70s when we were finding our bliss and selfactualizing theres no prescription for how to make for a happy kid, how to do math. So parents can drive themselves absolutely bananas trying to do it. Fathers role has changed. Theres still a great divide, isnt there . Yes. Women still do twice as much child care than men. And working women. Yes, working women. Women experience home life like a video game ducking and dodging. Theyre stirring a pot and answering the phone. Every woman in here is nodding. Men do mono tasking. Why not. I should tell you. Let me tell you. Fathers are come on. Fathers are more they now do three times as much child care as they did in the 1970s and thats almost, believe it or not, as the women did im sorry, in the 1960s almost the same as women. Good morning everyone, im nicole brewer. Septas Regional Rail is on strike. Contract negotiations between septa and two unions failed forcing more than 400 workers to walk off the job after midnight. Now, the Electrical Workers have been working without a contract since 2009. And the engineers since 2010. Main sticking Points Healthcare contributions and also the retroactive pay raises.
