The closing of the airport has taken on a political dimension. One that reached up to the secretary of state. Well find out today whether it will be lifted. We begin with the worldwide concerns over israels main airport. Its the new focal point after more than two weeks of violence in gaza. Secretary of state john kerry says progress is being made toward ending the fighting between israel and hamas. He flew to tel aviv overnight. Kerry arrived on a military jet the day after the faa imposed a ban on american commercial flights to israel. The hamas rocket that landed near ben gurion prompted the faa order. European aviation agencies took similar action. The airport is open for busines. Don, good morning. Reporter usually ben gurion is much busier than this. The security lines are empty. On any given day israels only International Airport has 1,000 passengers coming from or to the united states. Despite the heavy toll that Israeli Defense forces have had against hamas fighters, hamas continues to fight. Albeit with much fewer israeli casualties. Passengers in tel avivs airport scrambled for shelter when hamas launched three rockets in their direction. Two rockets were intercepted by the iron dome Defense System but one rocket destroyed this house less than a mile from the airport. No one was injured. The homeowner had left for work five minutes earlier. If the 2,000 or so rockets fired out of gaza were more accurate or not knocked down by israels air Defense System, this would be a much more common sight. This was the worst direct hit on an israeli home. Its proximity to the airport sent a in gaza, the third war has taken the lives of 600 palestinians. Most of them civilians. The Israeli Defense forces focused on eliminating rocket launch sites and tunnels. Two israeli civilians and 29 Israeli Soldiers have died in this most recent conflict. A young french israeli soldier was buried yesterday. These young people, whoever they are, come for the love of their country, for the love of israel. At their age they could be on vacation. They could be in new york. No. They come here and defend this country. Israel is unlikely to stop its campaign in gaza until it feels security has been established. We just got word a third israeli ca was killed in a rocket attack. Yesterday airlines reacted quickly after a rocket fired from gaza slammed into a neighborhood just north of tel avivs ben gurions airport. A delta flight from new york to tel aviv did a uturn in the skies diverting to paris. United scrub trips out of newark. Underscoring the danger, alarms sounded again late tuesday inside the airport has two rockets were shut down. Mark, good morning. Reporter good morning. Its six days since this plane came down here and finally the victims bodies, moving of them for process of identification to the netherlands is under way. There is a problem with the numbers. There were 298 people on this plane and they have not all been accounted for. The first of the victims began the journey home from a place they never intended to be. The ukrainians organized an honor car as remains were loaded on the dutch cargo plane. Other flights will follow. How many coffins . Ukrainian and dutch officials have been dealing with the grim accounting. The numbers dont add up. There were more people on the plane. There were more remains to be found. We are not in the position at this moment to put all of the remains to persons. What we are sure of are 200. Reporter that confirms what malaysian crash inspectors, the first on the site, and observers from osce, European Security agency, have seen. Victims remains were removed from the crash site and placed on a train carrying them out of rebel country but they say theyve had trouble with the numbers from the beginning. I was told there were 290 bodies on that train. We could not independently verify that. As we walked around we are still seeing body parts, not whole bodies, but from the day we arrived here, weve never seen that detailed combing over of the land. Reporter for the malaysian aviation inspectors looking for clues on the crash site, theres another problem. The wreckage that isnt here anymore. This is already a highly compromised crime scene. There is no security. And parts have been moved around, cut into, even taken away. They arent just parts, theyre evidence. It may be that any chance of carrying out a full and credible inquiry here is gone. Intelligence Officials Say all of the evidence still points in the same direction that russia provided the missile used to shoot down that airliner. Pictures of the wreckage show pitting intelligence Officials Say is consistent with a surface to air missile. A known prorussian rebel leader is overheard reporting we have just shot down a plane although he did not yet know it was a civilian airliner. Still, one intelligence official said we do not know who pulled the trigger but senator chambliss said intelligence hes seen shows either way, russia is to blame. Vladimir putin should be held accountable regardless of whether it was a russian soldier or a russian sponsored separatist that pulled the trigger. Russia either shot down the plane itself or gave separatists the order and ability to do so. Reporter u. S. Intelligence believes the missiles came from this base in russia and were smuggled into ukraine in recent weeks as part of a general buildup of rebel forces after they suffered setbacks at the hands of the Ukrainian Military. Photos which u. S. Intelligence could not independently verify posted on social media in the days before the shoot down show a Missile Launcher moving through towns in rebel controlled parts of ukraine. U. S. Intelligence did not know about the missiles until the day of the shoot down when it detected a surface to air Missile Launch at the same time the airliner disappeared from raider. The day after the shoot down, there was a launcher with one of its missiles missing being trucked out of ukraine back into russia. Russia and the rebels it supports have claimed the airliner was shot down by a missile belonging to the Ukrainian Military but u. S. Intelligence officials dismiss that claim as very unlikely. Charlie . Coverage for millions of americans enrolled under president obamas healthcare law may be in jeopardy this morning. On tuesday, two federal Appeals Courts issued conflicting rulings. At issue whether the government can pay for insurance premiums bought on exchanges set up by the government. But the white house is stressing that subsidies for those enrolled will not be affected. While this ruling is interesting to legal theorists, it has no Practical Impact on tax credits right now. You dont need a fancy legal degree to understand that congress intended for every eligible american to have access to tax credits that would lower their healthcare costs. Based federal Appeals Court that says because of the way the law was written, everyone who got healthcare insurance through the federal exchange, you know the website, healthcare. Gov would not be eligible for a subsidy to pay for premiums. That would be a big deal because upwards of 5 Million People in 36 states get their insurance through that healthcare. Gov and 87 of them are getting subsidies to help pay for premiums. If you cant get subsidies on the federal website, federal health exchanges, a lot of people across the country will not be able to afford to pay for Health Insurance. But wait. Theres more. Then just a few hours later, another federal Appeals Court, this one down in virginia, ruled just the opposite in a similar case saying, yes, you can still get those tax credits if you get your Health Insurance through the federal exchanges or if you get them through your state. Weve got this split now and you can be sure theres going to be an appeal. Charlie . So do you think the court will take another look . Reporter i think absolutely. This is something that the Supreme Court once again is going to have to wade into and take another run at the obamacare law and in this case even more so perhaps than the other two that the court has taken a look at is huge if this decision is allowed to stand. Officials are worried lightning from severe storms could cause more wildfires. There were 3,000 strikes in oregon alone tuesday. A flood watch is in effect today. Bodies of the victims of malaysian flight 17 are returning to the netherlands this morning nearly a week after the plane was shot down. Reporter the dutch government has been concentrating for the past five days on getting safe access to the crash site but today at last this is a national day of mourning. Earlier today the Ukrainian Government provided a military honor guard as those coffins were loaded on a plane. The dutch investigators are saying that some remains are still at the crash site. Once the planes have landed, the bodies will be taken to an Identification Center where Forensic Experts will identify each victim one at a time and the families will get a discrete phone call inviting them to come and collect their loved ones. Its not clear this is going to be a quick process. The dutch Prime Minister publicly said two days ago that it could take weeks or even months.
