Well, this morning a potentially paralyzing blizzard is taking aim at the northeast, hundreds of flights have already been canceled for tuesday. Heres why. A blizzard watch is posted for coastal regions including new york city and long i land. Where up to a foot of snow or foot and a half is possible. Whiteout conditions plague south dakota. In minnesota travel was treachero treacherous. Plows had a hard team keeping up with relentless snow. Its not just the snow people will have to deal with. The forecast also calls for powerful wind. Meteorologist Pamela Gardner of our boston station wbz is tracking the storm. Major storm across the northeast monday and tuesday, but first we have one area of low pressure were tracking across the upper plains and the great lakes where we could see several inks of snow fall. Thats going to create a combined pressure creating a kind of blizzard condition as we have multiple warnings, advisories and blizzard watch and conditions expected from new york city all the way to southern new england. Hourbyhour timing . Early Tuesday Morning the snow accumulation starts across maryland, pennsylvania, upstate new york, and then the snow continues to track through new england. And by tuesday evening, the system still is getting going in northern maine. Now snowfall rates anywhere from 3 to 4, up to 5 inches per hour across the northeast. That means thunder snowe is a likely thing youre going to experience, and the wind is going to be cranking up as the snow progresses to the north and east. 65plus mileperhour gusts.
