Cam, live look over center city philadelphia, and there is definitely some problems out there. You have got slick travel. We do still have the lower lying cloud cover. We do certainly have a swat of snow that blanketed the region. But what i want to also do is take you back in time here. Lets go ahead and go back to storm scan3 looking over the last say, 12 hours or so, from this storm so we back you all the way to up yesterday afternoon. Take a look at what happens here. Youre see things sort to fizzle away in the center of the screen. You can even see up through allentown, reading how skies have even gun to clear somewhat. So, what happened was that there was a dry slot of air that started to nudge its way in. What that meant was a lot of the snow would start to evaporate as it tried to drop to the grounds and accumulate. And it is also known as an inverted trough. So essentially you have subsiding air, in other words singing air allowing that moisture to just evaporate away. And you can see how that little slot came right through our area. So, well still ended up with a large noreaster developing, a good chunk of the Delaware Valley ended up with very little through the better part of the night. Now, again, we have gun to see some of the snow picking up still, and you will still finds pretty decent snowfall totals east of the city but still Winter Weather advisories in effect through this afternoon for all of the counties in the purple, winter storm warnings, now through ocean county, and up into north and central new jersey, and we are still expecting some decent snow here through east central new jersey. Meanwhile go into the city it is more like a two4inch total accumulation, so yes, it is not going to be the kind of snow that we had called for initially, but still going to be getting some snow out of this storm. Lets take a look at your area temperatures, as they stand 26 degrees in philadelphia, 23 in trenton, 26 in allentown so it is definitely cold enough, that it is all just snow. If you recall from yesterday we were still finding some rain and even some sleet mixing in, further south of the city, but now the cold air, cold dome has absolutely taken control. So what you are going to find is still light snow through the morning well start to see it finally gradually diminish as the day goes on, but the winds is going to hang on for awhile. It always tends to between low and High Pressure. So expect the winds to still be out there. The snow itself is going to be tapering off. We want to get a sense of whats going on out there right now. We send things out to meteorologist, carol erickson, with the cbs3 mobile weather lab, we find her in burlington county, good morning carol. Good morning to you katie. Yep, we are in burlington county, one of the last communities and counties put back into that winter storm warning. But it has been taken out of that, as of about nine minutes ago, the National Weather service say no, more likely just be under the lower category of the Winter Weather advisory. And thats in effect until noon today. We picked up couple every inches every snow. That is it. That will make people who did not want to truck through a lot of snow absolutely rejoice because the roads are fine. We just came off of route 70. There wasnt a bit of snow on t these roads have been treated like crazy. Now on route 206. Heading out of medford and heading down toward shamong, tabernacle. At this point not finding any problems whatsoever. Now, as katie will of course be able to tell you we still have some weather concerns. There is still a lizard warning, that is likely to be in effect for northern new jersey. The worse of the weather is out of most of new jersey, unless you are in the northern most sections, so the winter storm warning moved itself over to ocean monmouth counties, two areas that were in that blizzard warning a little bit earlier. But now down to a winter storm warning. So, things have changed in a dramatic way. Notice, what is ahead of us, and these are all the plow trains. Theyre picking up whatever is on the road. You can see all sort of contractors, et cetera, in all of these convenience stores. They are getting their coffee, that sort of thing probably saying wow we dont have nearly as long a work day as we had anticipated. Not nearly as much of a clean up for people who are thinking oh, boy that shoveling, im going have to do, youre going have to do a whole lot less of t and i think for a lot of people waking up to this is phenominal news. So vet tore crashes how are your roads . Well, right now carol i think as just as you said, a lot of people are looking outside the windows thankfully thinking to themselves that theyve definitely have to do less shovel, but that you can maneuver still around on the roadway with not too much after problem. However, that doesnt mean you wont have any problems today. As we take a look at the schuylkill, this is 76 at 476. If you look straight to the center of your screen, you will notice that this light here is still picking up some of that snow thats scattered around the roadway. So with that precipitation out, there you are still going to find slick spots all over the place. So you do still want to take it easy. However, volume is not a problem. Never usually is at this time. But as we continue, were going to move you now to the ben franklin bridge. The ben franklin bridge as well as betsy ross bridge, traveling with 25mile per hour speed restrictions, as well as they should be, bridges and offramps usually the first to freeze. So far the majors are generally moving well. Carol was traveling in burlington county, new jersey. In new jersey traveling on the new jersey turnpike, also the garden state parkway, they are operate withing speed restrictions of 45 Miles Per Hour. So note that. Lets talk about mass transit. That will be the biggie today. Mass transit and the airport we have a lot of notes. If youre traveling septa many of their bus routes will be on detour. So definitely good idea to double check our twitter feed as well as septa to get the latest on that. In regard to Regional Rail lines, they will be operating on saturday schedule, cynwyd line has been suspended. New Jersey Transit suspended the patco line running on modified schedule, and dart is reporting possible delays, as a result of the weather and there were over 622 concellations for today. So call your airline this morning. Ukee . Vittoria, thank you. Like katie mentioned earlier depending where you live will determine how much you will need to use a shovel. With more on team three coverage we get right out to Eyewitness News reporter jan carabeo in levittown, bucks count which conditions there jan, good morning. Reporter good morning, the snow is falling pretty steadily here in levittown bucks county, this morning. It is a very fine snow. The winds is blowing at around a bit. It is a bit hard to see the accumulation on the grounds just because it is blowing from side to side. But his is what were seeing so far here in levittown this morning. I would say at least a inch, but again, it is blowing around, so hard to get a real good total on that. And heres what the roads look like. They are not terrible, no, but theyre not the best. You can see some blacktop which is good news, and thats because road crews have been out here treating the roads all night. Now, our trip from philadelphia again not terrible especially near the city i95, was in very good shape. Once we got off and made our way closer to levittown we did have to slow down quite a bit. You can see the roads are covered with snow. We have seen quite a few salt trucks in the area already these road crews are out and working very hard and thats why were seeing some patches of blacktop. Overall, cold windy snowy morning here in bucks county, those going out in this part of pennsylvania will have to be extra cautious. The slick coming in like intersections and everything you kind of slide just definitely drive slow, take your time, you really dont want to fly. And back out here live in levittown, we are seeing those patches of blacktop on the roads, because theyre well treated. Here is what an area looks like that isnt well treated. This is a parking lot, this is what your sidewalks, your driveway, any parking lots are going to look like. So here in levittown, you will have little bit of work to do if you do decide to go to work today, and brave the streets. Youll have to get up extra early to dust your car off to get this off your sidewalks and out of your driveway. If you do need to do that, or maybe if you have a good carrefour wheel drive, just roll on out. But definitely build in extra time. Be very cautious on the roadways here in this area, still a bit snow covered especially, on those side streets. Reporting live in Levittown Jan carabeo cbs3 Eyewitness News. Jan, thank you. Another look at the roads up close with our jim melwert from sister station kyw news radio 10606789 he has been hitting the roads since early on and streaming pictures. I understand youre now in Collegeville Jim good morning. What are you seeing . Im westbound on 422 just going by the oaks awed owe ban ramp here. Just started snowing mere maybe half hour ago. Woke to up not nearly the mountains of snowy was expect to go see but as you might be able to see, i dont know if you it is translating but coming down pretty good here. Visibility little tough on 422 here, with the flakes, so it is not really affecting the rolled just yet, but it is coming down pretty heavily again. This just started up again here. The roads wet for now so depending when this does over the next couple of hours or so it could still affect morning rush, not the huge volumes we were talking about yesterday, but could be a headache if people are planning on heading to work. We do see flakes coming down but the roads look pretty clear like you mentioned . The roads seem just wet. Really, i left the house maybe quarter after 3 00 and it wasnt doing anything here. So this is just kicked up. So right now looks like it is just kind of melt whg it hits the road, maybe little slush but see what happens here. The rush about to kick in. Everybody still slow your roll. Still some slick spots. Coming up on Eyewitness News, the snow may not have pile up too high in our area, but other parts of the northeast, well, thats another store. I well take a look at some of the nasty conditions in new england and new york whether we come right back. Still very cold, could be icy conditions on some roads out there brad rudolph joins us live on the phone with their concerns today brad, good morning. Morning ukee. Tell me about the preparations, what you are planning for whats going on right now. We anticipated more snowfall but 438 trucks on the road salting and plowing the area roadways, secondary roads. Right now we appear to be in pretty good shape. A lot of asphalt showing could be slick conditions, temperatures cold, winds are ten to 20 Miles Per Hour depending where you are visibility could be an issue snow pretty light. So it could hamper your visible. We do advise delaying your plans until the system moves out, give our plows the opportunity to clear the highway. Plan on being out most of the day until the entire system moves out . Yes, out until the storm leaves the area, and highways are clear. So i expect to see plows throughout the morning. Much appreciation to you and your crews, thank up, my friend. Thank you. All right well get back to you. Blizzards is bearing down on the northeast section of the country. New york is expected to get ten to 20 inches of snow, along with some Hurricane Force winds. In preparation of the storm yesterday, officials ordered workers to go home early and then banned travelment closing bridges, tunnels even shutting down new new york sit subway system n parts of new york, it is illegal to be out on the roads driving. Well have live report for you coming from long island, new york in our next half hour, but really ten to 20 inches of there. So much worse. Well there is was the scene overnight in boston, as you can see heavy snow and strong winds, made for mere white out conditions there blizzard warning remains in effect for massachusetts until early wednesday morning. Forecasters say the snow could fall at rate of two to 4 inches an hour at times. By the ends, one to 2 feet of snow is expected to fall in boston. Some areas could even see up to 3 feet of snow. Power outages expected throughout new england over the next few days. Lets bring it back to our area. Heres katie. Just one of those storms had a wildcard behind its back, and decided, i think i will play this here tomorrow or last evening when we started to see things really start to change a little bit on the radar, and youll see that very well reflected in the way the advisories were issued for our area. Let me start you off by taking you on out to the live Neighborhood Network view of snowy scene outside Pleasant Valley middle and high schools here. 21 degrees the current temperature, modest wind, but it is flowing from the northeast at this hour. Heres a look notice like storm scan split in two modest snow falling if any at all, through Chester Berks counties still a monster after storm system. As we heard the report up in southeastern new england, you have the dark shades of purple in widespread coverage. So dumping and thumbing snow across the area, but see how there is that little thin just clear spot right over the delaware vale, leads to very stark and sharp gradient that will find out there in terms of the actual snowfall accumulations. It doesnt mean that youre completely out of the woods or safe. Obviously stay careful out there. Slick spots want to be careful because of that, and then snow will be tapering, but may still be slick. Delayed reaction, where you need little time for things to completely clear out. And just because the snow comes to an end doesnt mean that we might not see some of the slick spots just refreeze later on tonight. What did i tell you . See the little just sliver of nothing ness right over philadelphia. While we had outer band of the storm, extending back to State College down to dc, keep weather it err weather advisories there allow them to expire in Philadelphia County but do you have more Winter Weather advisories and then the winter storm warnings and blizzard warnings take effect going into the brunt of the storm through southeastern new england. Not calling this total bus because we are still expecting, i would say two4 inches total but ya, you know, we definitely didnt call this one right for philadelphia. Zero or Chester County or up to the lehigh valley, just didnt work out that way because of the darn dry slot. Thats what really worked against us with the storm for those areas. Decreasing clouds tonight 18 degrees our expected low, it will be very cold, with the breeze made to feel colder tomorrow bright, sunny but there will still be some clean to up do closer to the coast as we go into thursday night yet another round every light snow is headed our way vet tore crashes over to you. When ukee was talking to brad rudolph of penndot he said the penndot crews are out there and they are. We have one in the traffic cameras, doing their duties, and theyre doing it well. This is 476 at route one well route one at 476 notice, they are really playing a focus on to the on and offer ramps here, salt crews, brining crews have been out there still if you are traveling out and becomes not only in this area, as you will notice, in this camera shot where we are still dealing with some of the light snow, in any area, do you want to be careful. Even though doing such a great job out there helping you mover out there i suggest staying inside for little longer try to avoid commuting this morning still already slick w that said, as we move over to the ben franklin bridge, say you do have to head out this morning not awful out there but still slippery and incidents do still happen in weather like this because people dont think it is that bad. Travel the ben franklin bridge from the betsy ross bridge, regulating speeds at 35 Miles Per Hour, good thing because bridges ends on and off ramps are the first to freeze. Big story today will be for anyone traveling mass transit and at the Philadelphia International airport. Septa, many of the bus routes, now on detour, as a result of the storm that weve had. Regional rail lines will be operating on saturday schedules, cynwyd line has been suspended. In regard to new Jersey Transit on all platforms, they have suspended their transit systems, patco running on modified schedule, so you want to be careful of. That will for dart they are reporting possible delays as a result of the weather today. Keep an eye on their website. 622 flights have been canceled, check your flights and you do want to be minds full for more concellations ukee . More information from the airport, more than 850 flights out of Philadelphia International are canceled this morning according to website flight aware. Com. Check with your airline to confirm Us Airways Delta airlines, all waiving fees to change flights as long as the rescheduled flight is for this friday at the latest. Jet blue is allowing you to switch any flights from now through friday but the change must be made before your original departure. Amtrak service all service in new england is canceled today, includes asela express and northeast Regional Service between new york and boston. Fewer trains also running between washington and new york coming up on Eyewitness News this morning continuing to keep our eye on this weather system still dropping snow on some part of our region this morning also, a grissly discovery in the search for missing couple. They answered on line ad about classic car and disappeared. Well be right back. Sadly missing couple from georgia turned up two bodies, missing suv discovered in a ponds, however, authorities have not identified those bodies as the run johns, the couple was reportedly missing last friday after driving to tellfair county to look at a classic car which investigators say didnt exist we will wait and gather the evidence at the scene. Well analyze the vehicle the bodies and hopefully come to some conclusion as to how they met their fate. Authorities have charged ronnie towns with giving false statements, and criminal attempts to commit theft bee deception. He has not though, been charged with murder. That dry air snuck up on us, one of those wildcard possibilities, with this storm, it was a very complex set up, anyway, but it just happened that the little slot of dry air came right over our area now, this is still a very large storm system, and very significant noreaster, you can see it pomeling the poor folks in southeastern new england. But as far as were concerned a very stark contrast, as to what youll find at the shore versus what youre going to find say in Chester County it may be a completely opposite scene from one location to the next. And it will be a tight gradient. Well show you the snowfall expectations the most uptodate eyewitness weather snowfall map in a second. But look at the circulation in this atmosphere, boy once we see this storm finally pull away, well have chance to see High Pressure build in place very briefly quieter weather coming the next 48 hours once the storm pulls away. Gee on out to the board walk plaza here in rehoboth. Yes, snow did fall there obviously still on the board things pretty tran will down in rehoboth at this hour. Chilly too. Look at the wind, starting to turn little north nor westerly at this point noreaster typically bridges northeasterly winds but now that it is beginning to pull away, we see the wind shifting. But it is still a noticeable breeze with the sustained winds at high as almost 20 Miles Per Hour, so that will make it feel colder for sure. Meanwhile, look at the visibility so stark contrast, mile at the airport, 1. 3 miles up the i95 corridor to trenton, but youve got smooth clear sailing from mount pocono, back to lancaster down to dover even in wildwood. So, this is going to be one of those forecasts today and even a nowcast, frankly that youll see something completely different depending on where you liver. Look at this. I mean, talking one county over t could be a difference of almost 8 inches of snow. So very, very stark contrast like i said, still expecting the bulls eye of the snow to fall across long island but we could easily still pick up two4 inches by the time the whole thing is said and done. So the snow will be tapering through midday generally still winnie, however that continues into tonight with decreasing clouds and that generally clearing sky. So shall more sun expected tomorrow but probably little clean to up do specially further east. Thursday night, a fresh round of light snow headed our way but i am expecting at this point very modest totals maybe inch or two out of that. Vittoria, over to you. Good news for us, katie like how i feel this morning. Yes, im with you. Lets spin this in a positive way. Dont pull your back out really. Weve been pretty lucky so far this year. Hopefully it continues. But his is good news for you unfortunately for mass transit, thats where weve been seeing the biggest problem traffic wise, in regard to the weather. But first we take to you 309 right around the pa turnpike, and notice that we do definitely have some snow on the ground. But it is that light fluffy stuff that kate was talking about, and you can definitely commute through t however you do want to be minds full that there will be slick spots out there, so just want to take it easy regardless of that. However, our pa majors are being look just fine. This is 95, not too far away from cottman still going have those flurries out there so be mindful of low visibility, but as far as the roads are concerned edge dot did great job, salting brining, still out, there so really your commute right now could be a lot worse. Kenwood line suspended, new Jersey Transit suspended across the board patco running on modified schedule, dart experiencing possible delays today as a result of the weather so, definately want to keep an eye on, that and over 850 flights have been canceled, check your flights for more concellations today. Well continue to keep you updated of course. Ukee . Thanks, vet tore y the building process took a hit. Sixers are back at the bottom of the nba Atlantic Division and losers of their last six straight. Last night the sixers in new orleans with front row seat to the Anthony Davis show. The top pick in 2012 had monster game. With high flying slams, some friendly bounces as well. He finished with 32 points, and the pelicans beat up the sixers 99 to 74, sixers host the pistons tomorrow night. Well the flyers will be without forward zach rinaldo for eight games because of this hit on penguin chris latank next week, will forfeit 73,000 of his salary. Coming up in the next half hour of Eyewitness News keeping an eye on the storm still creating some slick conditions on the roads this morning. Live look, you can see just how slick those roads are courtesy of our mobile weather lab. And, police shoot and kill a 16 year old girl. Why the officers say they had no choice.
