Meantime, investigators have new clues as to what the gunman was doing before saturdays deadly encounter. This is a difficult time for both of our families. Reporter as the families of wenjian liu and rafael ramos lay their loved ones to rest, the mayor calls for reflection. Lets focus on the families and what they have lost. Reporter amid protesters who staged a sitin and Grand Central monday vowed to keep up the fight. They dont want Ismaaiyl Brinsley violent act to call for reform. It seems like a plan to try to attack this one guy with hundreds of thousands of protesters who have been protesting genls Police Brutality in general. Reporter investigators say brinsley watched and recorded a protest in the city earlier this month but did not participate. His sister maintains he was not targeting police. He was emotionally troubled. It had nothing to do with police retaliation. Reporter authorities released last known video of brinsley carrying a small white bag possibly with the gun he used to kill the officers inside. Theyre now trying to piece together where he was in the hours before the shooting. Now, the mayor says he does plan on attending both funerals of officer ramos funeral is scheduled for this weekend. Every mayor of new york city has had strained relations with the police force that they lead over the years. But the mayors experience is not unique. Theyre still out there work very hard in demonstrations in the face of greater adversity. Theyre policing despite the horrific murders over the weekend. Theyre still going towards the danger, not stepping back. So the morale is something thats internalized and has not affected their performance which is what you would ask. With respect to moving forward, an apology, i know the mayor went to the hospital to pay his respects to the slain officers. Some of the officers there were so upset, they turned their backs on him as he passed by. It was a manifestation and frustration of some officers. Something that im certainly not approving of.
