At the crash scene in the french alps, crews continued the difficult task of recovering remains of the 150 who died. We have a series of reports tonight. Reporter investigators searching the apartment and family home of Andreas Lubitz turned up several doctors notes, including one excusing him from work on the day of the crash, but that one had been torn up. German prosecutor Christoph Gumpa said the note supports the Current Program assessment that he hid his illness from his colleaguees. Producers would not say what that medical condition was other than that it had been treated by a doctor. They also did not find a suicide note or anything indicating a religious or political motive. Now they are combing through the copilots background examining financial and personal details as well as the possibility that he was suffering suffering from depression. The federal Aviation Authority in germany said there was a medical condition attached to lubeits file but did not specify what it was. Today, Dusseldorf University clinic said lubitz had been a patient as recently as march 10. Officials declined to provide further details on the basis of patient confidentialityity. The medical records have been sent to the investigators office. Germanwings confirmed lukeitz interrupted his training for several months in 2009 but have not said why. On wednesday, lufthansa c. E. O. Carsten spohr said the copilot passed all the subsequent tests and checks with flying colors. German pilots undergo rigorous annual physicals but not specific psychological testing. Thats limited mostly to a questionnaire filled out by the pilots themselves. Europes Aviation Safety Agency is now recommending that airlines always have two people in the cockpit of a flying aircraft scott, and lufthansa has announced it will offer 55,000 assistance for each victim. Reporter the nations Airline Pilots cannot do their jobs without first being cleared by doctors. Thatfuls undergoing a physical exam and selfreporting on this online form whether theyve tried to commit suicide or have mental disorders, including depression or anxiety. On a casebycase basis, commercial pilots who take antidepressant medications like zoloft and prozac are now allowed to fly if they have been factually treated on the medication for at least 12 months. Today, forces led by the sunni kingdom of saudi arabia accelerated their attack on shiite rebels who are backed by iran. More now from david martin. Reporter arab warplanes dropped hundreds of bombs on rebel targets in yemen in an air campaign that dwarfs the bombing of isis in iraq and syria. Thats because saudi arabia, the united arab emirates, and bahrain, athlete countries flying air strikes all view iran, which is backing the rebel effort to take over yemen as a greater threat than isis. A small team of american experts has been sent to saudi arabia to aid in the strikes by providing intelligence from spy satellites and reconnaissance drones. Saudi arabia is asking for more american support in the form of Aerial Refueling and spare parts. The rebels, known as houthis, have already taken the capital of saana and they are moving south to the border with some advance elements already fighting in the city. The objective of the bombing is to slow the rebel advance enough to give the Government Forces time to regroup. Saudi arabia has moved forces to the border with yemen and egypt has talked about sending troops as well. But u. S. Officials do not yet see preparations for a ground operation into yemen. Two saudi pilots had to bail out after their jet suffered a mechanical malfunction. They came down over water and two hours later, they were rescued by an american helicopter. Scott.
