Search and get to a better position Jacob Passy at Market Watch on how to give somebody a better career for Christmas. House Democrats have begun debating articles of impeachment against President Trump they could be brought to the House floor next week the Judiciary Committee yesterday started considering the 2 articles which accuse Mr Trump of abusing his power and of obstructing Congress Democrat Hank Johnson of Georgia when the sciences in case of emergency brake glass that better be one heck of an emergency I did not call for impeachment before but I call for impeachment today Jim Jordan of Ohio was among Republicans who argue the Democrats are trying to impeach the president because they don't like him or his governing style they're never going to stop with their attacks because they can't stand the fact that President Trump is actually draining the swamp and doing what he said he would do and most importantly get results Meanwhile Reuters says the president is leaning toward a quick trial in the Senate not one in which Republicans call a lot of witnesses the Senate is not expected to convict. The 2 gunman who killed 4 people in a shootout with police in New Jersey on Tuesday supported anti-Semitic groups online and are the lead suspects in the recent murder of an driver Those are new accusations from authorities who identified the shooters as 47 year old David Anderson and 50 year old Francine Graham both were killed during an hours long gun battle with police after storming a Jewish grocery store in New Jersey attorney general Gerber grow wall we've obtained to digital and documentary evidence which we are currently reviewing for indications about the suspects possible motives Jersey City Mayor Steven Philip said he had viewed anti-Semitic posts by the shooters on Facebook the assailants used high powered rifles to kill 3 people inside the supermarket f. . They're pulling up to the store in a stolen you haul van the shooters had earlier killed a police officer during a confrontation at a nearby cemetery investigators by the way also recovered a pipe bomb from the stolen van. The House has given the green light to a 738000000000 dollar defense policy bill that offers 12 weeks paid leave for all federal workers it also opens the door to a space force a top military priority for President Trump we get more from this morning's Mike gabbin the bill passed overwhelmingly in the house and now heads to the Senate where it's also expected to pass the president says he'll sign it the establishment of the u.s. Space Force would make it the 6th armed service of the United States under the Air Force the measure also allows Mr Trump to use military funds to build a wall along the border with Mexico and increases pay for troops by 3 point one percent the paid family leave applies to all $2100000.00 federal workers employees must have worked for the government for one calendar year to qualify Gordon thanks Mike how did family leave wind up in this bill won't because the National Defense Authorization Act as it's officially known is a must pass bill so lawmakers use it as a vehicle for a wide range of policy provisions in addition to terminate things like how many aircraft or ships the Pentagon can buy or what it can pay the troops it's 10 minutes now after the hour on this morning America's 1st news coming up next what's going on between the Pentagon and the White House. This portion of the program is for us like Ranger Granger's got your back when it comes to the safety and industrial supplies that help keep your facility running get what you need when you need it at Granger dot com The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Mark Milley is trying to allay fears the president trumps intervention in the cases of 3 service members last month would lead to a disruption of order and discipline within military ranks General Milley told members of the House Armed Services Committee yesterday that quote We do maintain and we will maintain good order and discipline Meanwhile a seemingly simple order from the commander in chief is often anything but especially with entanglements like Syria and Afghanistan here's an in-depth look at what's going on between the Pentagon in the White House from Ben Wolfgang military correspondent at The Washington Times Ben what are you hearing what we can gather over the past year or so of seeing Donald Trump try and finally make good in this campaign promise to get out of you know what he called endless wars in Afghanistan Iraq and now Syria is that his orders which you know in theory could be pretty simple saying it is the commander in chief of the United States armed forces often are don't seem so simple because you know he'll give an order and rid Syria I think are the best example of this where it's pretty clear couple of months ago but Trump wanted to get out of Syria and came out in front of cameras and gave multiple speeches issued multiple statements saying we're going to withdraw from Syria and what tends to happen is the military said well we. It's going to take awhile going to take x. Number of months to get all our people all of our out of Syria and so they they sort of you know it's not necessarily that they're defying the president specifically but I think they're just moving very deliberately very cautiously very slowly with the hope and the expectation that eventually President Trump will either changes mind or be convinced by someone to change his mind and that in fact seems to have been what happens in Syria and certainly what has happened in Afghanistan over the past couple of years as well so I think that this strategy of slow walking the president's orders it's continuing because it seems to have looked so far Gordon site so this is happening perhaps because why Mr Trump sometimes says something without consulting with generals or trusted military advisors one thing that's clear about the president and you can go back to his campaign I mean you can even go back before his campaign you know it was criticism of the war in Iraq for example I mean one of his central tenets political race especially when it comes to foreign policy has been to get out of the Middle East wherever possible he doesn't want to continue these wars in Afghanistan in Syria certainly in Iraq as well so that's just sort of where his gut is like where his heart is is sort of Northstar in foreign policy is to try to get out whenever possible and so I think that he often just gravitate back toward that and says this is what I'm going to do dammit now we're going to do it I'm going to get me going to get our men and women out of these countries and then what happens is after the fact I think he's presented with sort of the the we're just the cool challenge is that that you know that that that policy brings about and the potential replications up what it could mean for broader u.s. Foreign policy goals for national security for the rebirth of of Isis you know potentially strengthening the hand of rush hour China all of these different. Things and I think that's where sometimes he's convinced to modify or slow down back off a little bit of his all common goal which I think everybody would agree at this point is to get out entirely or speak with Ben Wolfgang military correspondent at The Washington Times he's written a piece in titled military slow walk or deep state defiance Trump sees direct orders modified what about the Afghanistan example I try to separate as I did the Pete Afghanistan from Syria because they're very different I mean what we've seen in Syria is just a complete mess with a lot of different factions at play with you know Bashar Assad government forces Russia Turkey the u.s. Backed Kurds ISIS it's just a very complex and complicated set of circumstances on the ground in Syria and so one could you know can easily make an argument that given how messy it is where we really do in there maybe we should get out of Afghanistan of course the very different story you know mainly because of its role in harboring al Qaeda leading up to the 911 attacks almost 20 years ago so what you're saying I think in Afghanistan is true does want to get out I mean he wants peace talks the Taliban over the past year that was eventually still a part because the Taliban just wouldn't stop conducting attacks against American personnel inside Afghanistan so trump one to get out but I get the sense when I talk to people in the Pentagon and sort of work in the national security orbit of this administration that the Trump is a little sort of more determined and kind of angry quite frankly about the situation in Afghanistan he was angry that the Taliban you know state that we broke good face by continuing these attacks when we had really reached out an unprecedented olive branch with these peace talks that we were holding So the president when he went out the end of them. Over Thanksgiving said we're going to try to relaunch the peace talks but he made pretty clear that we're not getting out until we get ironclad commitments from a to. I would be in to stop these attacks to let peace take hold to represent the u.s. Government in Kabul and and a number of other conditions that we set out so again I think you've got to get out but I began to stand unlike Syria I even made it pretty clear over the past couple of weeks that he's not going to get out until we get exactly what he wants it's going spend spend Wolfgang military correspondent at The Washington Times 20 minutes now after the hour on this morning Jennifer because Shanker is here now with 3 big things you need to know several on board with opening statements out of the way the House Judiciary Committee will turn today to voting on the 2 articles of impeachment against President tribe that committee will eventually vote separately on each of the articles abuse of power and obstruction of Congress Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry NAVL or this committee now owes it to the American people to give these articles close attention and to describe their factual basis meeting and important supplicant Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio this is about one basic fact the Democrats have never accepted the will of the American people 3 weeks ago Nancy Pelosi called the president of the United States an imposter and the attacks on the president started before the election before final votes a committee will consider potential amendments when Republicans could attempt to remove or limit the accusations but Democrats outnumber Republicans on the panel so they are expected to control any contested votes never to most authorities are holding back for now from characterizing a firefight that left 6 people dead in Jersey City as motivated by anti-Semitism that Mayor Steve full of can from the assailants targeted a kosher grocery store there is no question that this is a hate crime and anti semitism should be called out aggressively and firmly immediately for what it is as state's attorney general grb your great wall stopped short of calling the shooting anti-Semitic adding that authorities are working to learn more about the shooter's motivations and whether anyone besides the 2 gunmen may have been involved never 3 there's a deal in place to settle nearly every sexual misconduct lawsuit brought against Harvey Weinstein in the border. Thanks for joining us more workers are moving away from traditional employment altogether thanks to the rise of the economy and freelancing and you give a gift to those workers during the holidays Market Watch has put together some recommendations from career experts on gifts you can give friends and family to help them move up at work or strike out on their own in the gig economy here's reporter Jacob Passy Jacob what do you have at Market Watch we've done you know what we did every year for the past few years gift guide called gifts that pay off different you know kind of an unconventional gift guide but a bit of a financial bent. And I looked at how to give people get that will help them with finding a job but also you know as I go into in my story the nature of work is changing quite a bit you know more people are freelancing more people are working out in the gate economy also you know right now the labor market is really strong which is great you know it's not necessarily hard to find a job but that's all the reason why you know a lot of folks are probably looking for a job now if you know the job seekers market right now and so certain gifts that you can give folks can help them with their job search and get them to a better position so one of the ones you suggested was helping. A friend or colleague say improve their public speaking and other soft skills how so yeah so you know these are skills that come up in the job search process right you know you're going to get interviewed probably a might have to give a presentation you know so it's good to brush up on those skills and those are the sorts of skills that are increasingly distinguishing people in the jobs market you know as more and more roles are automated It's about you know the foster skill of the people the people interaction things like that so. The suggestions I got from Career coaches one as you know kind of tried and true enrolling in a class the with bad tooth Masters International their nonprofit promote speaking skills and public speaking. In a class of across the country. You could help pay for your friend or loved $1.00 membership fee and get them in rolled in a cot but they're also unconventional wrote rupie can go whine and suggestion I love with taking an improv class or paying for them to take them problem that helps you think on your feet that's really good for you know the interviews when you get that kind of oddball question out of nowhere. And you don't want to mess up in front of the person who's hiring you. You know having improv skills and can be a huge help lots of fun speak with a capacity personal finance reporter at Market Watch has written a piece in titled How to give someone a better career for Christmas aren't so I don't want to comes to boosting their digital presence what does that mean yes so you know back you know even you know today to some extent but certainly you know a decade ago or so you know there was some of the so much focus placed on the resume it's a resume services were a popular gift you could get folks today it's all about Linked In you know a lot of people have Linked In profile of but you know there are ways you can enrich your Linked In presence I'd like to quote from one point person I spoke with she said we approach Linked In as a virtual Billboard So you know it's not just a matter of regurgitating your resume onto your Linked In profile they should serve different purposes. But is a capacity personal finance reporter at Market Watch I like that Linked In as a virtual billboard 30 minutes now after the hour on this morning America's 1st news. If they ever want to. The newly approved u.s. Mexico Canada agreement is expected to increase annual u.s. Agriculture and food exports by $2200000000.00 or a little more than one percent according to the u.s. International Trade Commission that comes from small increases of u.s. Dairy poultry wheat and alcohol exports to Canada more sugar and products with sugar would come to the u.s. From Canada Time now for an in-depth look at the u.s. M.c.a. Pact on the farm with take a bungee reporter at The Wall Street Journal Jacob water sources telling you this is a big sigh of relief done for the u.s. Sponsored farmers cultural companies. And everybody is huge market for us farm sector both Canada and Mexico. Claiming to keep in mind here. That. What is even more important than the potential incremental improvements that would come from modernizing NAFTA is the fact that it still exists because remember just a couple of years ago President jump was shot in the few times to pull the us out of it struck a lot of fear into the hearts of farmers cultural companies because and that since I went back to 1904 it's underway and all of these not just exports really connected supply chains spec imports cross both borders with the grains being grown in the Midwest sold to feed cattle for example in Mexico and Canada livestock that's raised slaughtered in the us to process them to parks that are exploited again. The big thing here is maintaining what they got the benefit serves us to a little extra on top of the other certain farmers in the us that make out better than others. Bury sector which is really under a lot of pressure given the low price of in particular for Barack over the last few years so they're going to do better on account of the us and. Getting Canada to hungry to chop the smoke quota and pricing system which has long been a kind of compliant for us Terry producers they figure the full Let them export more and potentially support prices in general so that's a benefit that's going to be more sugar that comes into the u.s. Because of this has been a point of contention some compaction in the firms from users of sugar. And sing in general you know the idea of the trade will mean duty free of Mexico and Canada. It's extra important given all the people with China on trade from us from China which has taken China from being in the biggest buyer u.s. Agriculture products just a couple of years ago and cut that it just about a year's time for significant bungy reporter at The Wall Street Journal talking about how the u.s. M.c.a. Could affect agriculture you spoke to this this hog farmer in Iowa named Trent feel explain what he's been through and is going through now. Throw in one of the the facts of the truth the spirits beyond us and. With Mexico and with Canada the company ministers and that includes stealing move them to send and that kind of. Blatant some further heat around the sole trader issue with NAFTA partners Mexico had retaliated to u.s. Products including pork with punitive to that effectively made it more expensive for Mexican buyers to buy or Crum u.s. Producers and the way that often works is that the products that are sold out of the u.s. Are discounted to make up the difference and that discount up holds down to the farmer started chanting in Iraq you know he felt the direct way and the result was lower price of storage harm so various times would be below the cost of production so we would be losing money on each arm that he rose and for that reason after Mexico put in place sister and women she held back on what he typically been doing which is put him at the new barn every year to its pond as you can imagine the more you can produce here with the margins be enrolled the better you can through and so he was on track to grow on his farm an operation where he put that on hold just because he didn't know where things were going to go with Mexico and having more hours on his farm is not going to happen if he's losing money on each run there's Jacob that is Jacob bungy reporter at The Wall Street Journal 20 minutes now in front of the hour on this morning America's 1st news coming up next ugly sweater news. Thank you for joining us on this Friday the beyond the headlines now this morning's Mike Gavin is here with a look at some of the other stories you'll be talking about this morning good morning hope it seems the ugly Christmas sweater trend is in no danger of dying down anytime soon as evidenced by 2 recent pieces of sweater news 1st a Michigan company decided to combine the ugly sweater trend with the popularity of Popeye's chicken sandwiches to create a product so popular it sold out in less than one day Christmas sweater dot com started selling the sweaters featuring Popeye's orange and red colors and adorned with images of chicken sandwiches yesterday morning for 45 dollars each predicting that they be gone by the end of the day they were right as a check of the site this morning shows they are indeed sold out and if you manage to nab one of the coveted sweaters you might want to wear it when you fly home for the holidays cuz you might be able to get on the plane early Alaska Airlines said anyone wearing an ugly holiday sweater boarding one of their planes on December 20th will be offered priority boarding Now how about that now course you can get to a sticky situation there where you know how do you judge what is actually an ugly Christmas sweater or maybe someone's just wearing a sweater from their closet tensional e trying to were ugly sweater you know just the person behind the counter go hey you can get out 1st because you're wearing an ugly sweater and that person might get offended rights for how about you know that that's what it is actually quite attractive Right exactly yes that's a beautiful looking sweater you have there you know you're going to get on that in the back with everybody else or how about this one yeah a sweater with just a snowman on it right it's not necessarily a Christmas sweater Yeah right it's just over yet or with the winter image on the basis that small the secular sweater Yeah I think you're right Alaska Airlines might be inviting controversy here all kinds. Possible Issues here and with many of us trying our best to get into the holiday spirit we can sometimes go a little overboard which is why police in Washington State are forced to be a little grinchy toward a motorist who decorated the back of their car with a light up Christmas tree deemed too distracting for other drivers the Washington State Patrol tweeted photos showing the vehicle with a light up Christmas tree on its rear and the roof rack covered in colored lights good news however they did post that the trooper did not in fact have a heart 2 sizes too small and let the driver go with a warning instead of a summons that post also prompted area residents to tweet back with photos of a vehicle spotted in the area with even more intricate lights including a glowing snowman on the trunk you see trooper said they are aware of the other 2 festive vehicle and are on the lookout science yes sometimes too much is too much yes you know we don't need anything else distracting us on the road we have enough things that we're trying not to be distracted by right in the palm of our own hands right that involve lights off and that is a lot of lights Yes Thank you Mike 13 minutes now in front of the hour on this morning America's 1st news Don't forget by the way we can connect on social media if you confront us on Facebook you can follow us on Twitter this morning show and you can follow me directly on Twitter as well at Gordon deal.
