They couldnt verify the complaints but say they have a serious bus driver shortage. Melinda malone, ccsd spokeswoman we do have right now, 1497 bus drivers and we have 1061 positions. So we have about 104 routes that are not being filled by a permanent bus driver. That means temps are filling in which delays and inexperienced drivers. Melinda malone, ccsd spokeswoman sometimes the driver is given that route that day, and they need to fill in they have instructions but they are learning as they go. Theyre experienced bus drivers but theyre not familiar with that particular route so that does cause delays. Malone says even though theyve gotten some complaints they have a 95 percent on time rate.
