News in Washington and this is k.b. M r f m Nevada City in the battle City California where we're just wondering what the heck's going to happen in the next 2448 hours I can tell you that the weather forecast from the National Weather Service for tonight Grass Valley is calling for clear skies with a low of 61 on Saturday sunny with a high of 77 lower 48. Tomorrow night and on Sunday sunny getting colder though 61 for the high 46 for the low in Sacramento tonight clear with 49 is a low Saturday Sunday with a high before and a low of 53 on Sunday windy in Sacramento area 74 with a high 47 with the low in Truckee tonight clear with a low of 31 on Saturday should be sunny with a high of 69 in a low of 20 and on Sunday sunny in Truckee with a high of only 40 and a low of 16 in Angel camp tonight clear with a low of 4050 on Saturday sunny with a high of 83 a low of 45 going on Sunday in the angel camp should be sunny with a high of 71 and a low of 30 now all right let's get to the juice a bit I'm felt and proof that Steve Baker and that's Taylor Wolfe across the studio from us from the Office of Emergency Services I guess we'll start with you Taylor what is the latest that you have on what's going to happen this weekend with the p.s.t.n. Yeah hello good evening inning surgeon for having me on the show so National Weather Service Sacramento have announced that we will be in a red flag warning coming up here this weekend and we're going to be experiencing some very high winds so for any listeners out there that aren't yet familiar with what a red flag warning is that's the highest level of fire danger that National Weather Service puts out there and so we are encouraging people to make sure their go bag is ready and our cars are parked along the road but also check in with their friends family neighbors to see if they have any in any means that you may bolt to help out with. If anyone forgot the Office of Emergency Services sent out are 200-1000 Ready Set Go guides earlier this summer and so that has a bunch of really great trackless in it of how you can start preparing yourself or your family to evacuate if needed so we're encouraging people to go back and look at that if they still have it. You know I'm just going to jump in and tell people that we're actually really serious about this 1st time you know Philip your cars with gas have been parked the right way so that if you had to leave and have that really you know we talk about you know get to go back to more to it now do it tonight Yeah thank you for that it is very very serious and. The Ready Set Go that has a really great checklist and there to are walk you through the process that makes it about a simple as it can be. It has a checklist in there for what belongs in your go bag and everything from a 3 day supply of nonperishable food in 3 gallons of water per person really important to know your evacuation routes this weekend with the high winds and the red flag warning you know look at Google maps while you have your power or pull out the old fashioned that Sinn Fein where you're located but let me ask you this so let's say a fire started tomorrow night let's start where it started Wouldn't you just go the opposite direction generally I mean we've only got a few ways out of here we've got Highway 49 we've got Highway 20 and then the little side roads that go either way so that's pretty much. Yeah I mean it's really all it comes back to situational awareness right a.l.o. Ng the police officers in the emergency services construction right right so situational awareness so when a fire 1st starts and it's just evacuated you know you're going to have to be situationally aware to see you know if the fire is really nearby and you can see it go in the opposite direction and you're right about our highways you know there is you know only so many options out there but there's a lot of different rows to get to there are those highways right in different ways that you can get out so it's it's extremely important just to know those different ways that you can get to those highways in addition to which ways you can exit from the highways right. And talking with your neighbors is extremely important to you we're still encouraging people our Office of Emergency Services and this ready set go go I'd call that find your 5 so go out there and talk to those neighbors friends and family that you have and make sure they're prepared to you in these power outages we don't always have access to. The Internet or texting or phone calls so it's really important to help keep each other safe just by that personal command connection and word of mouth as well and so tomorrow night let's say it's 3 o'clock in the morning and you're sound asleep the power is off we can't call you we probably can't touch because cell phones died there is a new high level irony that it has been developed because if you hear this whenever you hear this it's time to get in your car and get moving it's evacuation warning signal Yes And Sheriff moon put out a special video on that and I guess if you could cue that up right now we're going to play for you so that you can hear if. It's what you expect on the high low siren but if you hear this tomorrow night Sunday or whatever that's time to evacuate this is the stuff so. Well you have it there for your body. Well meanwhile a couple other things you can keep in your go bag you know always thinking of your pets and your animals and how to quickly get them evacuated a change of clothing maybe an extra pair of shoes. Perception medications are extremely important your extra set of car keys of course flashlights something that were always had come in handy even the power outages as well as your important documents and making sure sure those are close and ready to back grab 1st aid kits and cell phone charging so go ahead and take a look at your go bag tonight. I. Again you can look at our Ready Set Go back go guide my Nevada County dot com slash Ready Set Go guide and it has an actual checklist on page 15 for you to go through and actually physically check off the things on the Celeste and get that go bag are ready before we head into that 2nd red flag warning this weekend. And as Felton was saying the Hi-Lo sirens are extremely important to be familiar with you can also find a video that we're about to pull up at w.w.w. Dot my Nevada County dot com slash hi lo sirens and hi lo is h i l o sirens. Hi I'm sure Shannon Miller and even though it just rain it's important to remember we're still in the middle of fires and keeping this in mind your local parade and I would like to introduce you to a new sound we will be using to notify you in your family of an immediate evacuation order this new high road will not replace our code red notifications it is simply another way in which we can notify you and your family of an emergency in your area. Situational awareness means using all of your During an emergency. Here. And in the new sound to help you in an emergency it is specifically designed to alert you to an immediate evacuation order. If you hear the sound that means only one thing evacuated immediately you only hear the sound during the evacuation order if time permits officers and deputies were to be responding to your area and using p.a. From going door to door to do evacuations but if you heard the sound you can help them in doing their job safely and evacuate the area immediately if you missed the announcement or have questions please do not call 911. In your family's evacuation plan. Contact 2 on one if you have questions or go to a trusted media source once you are safely evacuated. Remember 911 is only for emergencies and about a county sheriff Grass Valley Police Department and about a city police department have always wins in their patrol vehicles so if you hear the siren it means one thing and one thing only evacuating evacuated immediately Nevada County is now part of a special pilot program instituted by Napa County to be better prepared for evacuations state regional and local officials who made this happen now welcome to our community members to. Your job know the sound and know what it means. Evacuate evacuate evacuate. Evacuate. What do you get from that there is a high low siren it's time to get your car and get moving. And we'd like to remind people the evacuation terms for these emergency events as well south not only you know if you hear those sirens and back you a but if you get a code red or are getting notifications or other systems and there is an evacuation in place remember that an evacuation order is what is mandatory and you need to leave right then and there is an imminent threat to your area whereas an evacuation is visor your warning is when we're a vising residence of a potential threat to life and property there's a possibility for an act of accusation or and it is always recommended that you evacuate early especially for people who maybe would take a little bit longer back to reading. Thank you for we'll from the Office of Emergency Services and now joining us on the phone is Pasco you've been out who was just on a conference call with very important people assume. Well. They're important if you like your power. If you do need reps have announced that they will make a final decision tomorrow at 8 pm regarding the possible blackout for some 850000 of their customers. In this era of hotels in the northern region of California the power. Would be turned off around 3 pm on Saturday. It will last through the duration of the wind event which p.g. Knee estimates until late Monday morning or early afternoon on Monday that's when they would start inspecting lines and restoring power but again 850000 customers would be impacted which is probably over to 2 and a half 1000000 people at least. And there you just don't know a conference call with a p. Cheney is that correct that is that's where that information comes from Ok very well fast still what else would you like to share with us at this time 617 on Friday evening well. I'm reiterating some of the stuff that famous. Yes please be ready for this wind event the power outage is one thing but the wind event the wind event and the fire danger that comes with it it's really it's the extreme fire weather danger. That is really what we all should focus on and be ready so have to go back to the ready to leave be aware of your surroundings Now the issue with the wind event is that the strongest winds will be over night from Saturday to Sunday so the best thing to do is actually that you are if you stay home and you can actually you're actually ready to leave and when you hear the Hi-Lo sirens evacuate a passel I just don't think if we have a high wind event a lot of back roads and side roads and little people living way up in crannies trees fall down limbs fall down so I've always thought tonight along with your go bag maybe you know if you've got a lumberjack in the family bring along chainsaw with you to suppose you might have to cut a tree limbs out of your way to get through a road. Yes Or you can leave early but you know call it cutting cutting a tree sure if you know how to safely use a chainsaw and cutting a tree in the road this kind of tricky if it's a paved road you're going to create sparks right that's what I want to bring up there are dangers with that if there is there is danger if you have a if you are on the road and there is a tree down if you have any way to call call that even. Then you can have dental If the professionals get to you and but again of course if there's a fire you know whatever works you know however really it's not. Having a chainsaw in the car that's one thing but I think leaving early is actually. Probably a better way and then another thing that just came up to 7 noon is. The office of the governor has launched a 75000000 program for state and local governments to mitigate some of these impacts of the p.s.p. S. So. In a statement Newsome said p.g. Sale to maintain its infrastructure and Californians are facing hardship as a result for decades they have placed read before public safety you must do everything we can to support California's especially those most vulnerable to these events these funds to help local governments aggress these events the system was full of all residents. So there is a $75000001.00 time General Fund appropriation. Half of the funds to be allocated to local governments at least $150000.00 will be a ward to each of the $58.00 counties and then the total $8000000.00. Dollars will support the president's grams available to encroach on the incorporated cities and a minute and a half for tribal governments and that can be used to secure a performance like generators which generate a connection storage for essential facilities like fire stations community centers health facilities or other facilities for the quick because communities functioning during the energy interruptions backup emergency communication equipment and developing and conducting plans to better prepare communities for these blackout events too we know Pascal do we know exactly when and when do you suppose start picking up Saturday evening. I know we can give you a it's going to start picking up between $6.00 and $9.00 and then it's going to get the worst winds will be overnight. Or 1st of course in the dark. Ok And then we're expecting it to probably taper off through Sunday night and then they gotta figure out how to Monday or by Monday morning by Monday Ok and then they've got of you know checked the lines again and we all know about the check the lines routing Yes. This time this is the the largest if if they go through with the full the full 850000 customers we got the new map I have to I'm looking at that this new map and I mean it goes from Siskiyou 'd. Through Shasta humble to home a. Few buttons that are plaster over around the 'd Alpine tell us there are 20 member posts down and then on the coast send the need to send the crew some pics later semitrailer Alameda ridden Sonoma not Mendocino it's it is huge so even if. They have all the airline crews and the bridge they're bringing in an additional $1000.00 personnel from other utilities through mutual aid system to help them inspect the lines it is not going to be fast so. If the public goes out be prepared for an outage that is probably going to last through Tuesday. Right that's what I wanted to let people know it shows the power to go out today if they cut it in 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon might not be on till Tuesday night maybe Wednesday what do you think then we've got another event coming in too well there might there is a chance for another event to another wind event to come in but really I think. $24.00 or $48.00 or 72 hours. The impact is the same what is not the same is the impact of the the wind event and the fire weather of course because it's long as we have these winds anything that any spark can indict a fire and these fires will spread because there is just if you have 60 mile an hour gusts of fire what those were the conditions under which the camp fire burned and conditions the year before that when we had to win complex fires up here and the wind from 3 fires so really encourage everybody to be way more alert than usual and then taking with the situational awareness. Right now you might even see a little bit of smoke outside that is actually smoke from the Kinkaid fire in Sonoma County we have a little bit of that smoke that is that is coming coming in you can fairly It's very faint you can barely smell it. But fires and wind damage will be the major. Your major concern so make sure that everyone in your family is safe checking on your neighbors and just be ready in Nevada Nevada City and Grass Valley areas you we know exactly which way the winds are going to be coming from north and northeast. Ok. So that also means well it's a little bit of coming from the north so if it was north northwest that means we'd be getting more smoke or Northnortheast means we're getting more smoke from neocon cave far. Right Right now the Right now we are not in that will pattern yet Ok once once the north north. Northeast winds kick in it will blow the small from that fire out to the sea and. The only thing we will we will we will have are a lot of leaves and needle of pine needles and branches and probably trees coming down. We won't have those the smoke will not be affecting us here today with that Ok Well we certainly thank you for all the work its own you've been it's been doing for the last 4 or 5 days and of course for the last 4 or 5 years well. Let's say you said tomorrow morning 8 o'clock p Jimmy is going to have a decision a final decision or a decision by the fed by around 8 am there will be a decision All right anything else you want to throw in. Just everybody you know I know it's frustrating it is scary but. Just prepare the best you can and. Then be aware of your surroundings but you know it's. It may be but you know what this is a great community and people coming together. Just because to each other all right let's go we thank you and I'm sure we'll be talking to you tomorrow all right. We still have Taylor Wilson here in the studio with us if you want to throw anything in there Taylor Yeah just adding on to Pascal's messaging about preparedness and taking care of each other and what we're talking about with situational awareness being familiar with those Hi-Lo sirens that we played for you earlier part of that is having a backup plan so you know working with those friends and family to have a pre-determined emergency meeting place if it's necessary knowing people outside the area and their contact information everyone's on the same page and have their go bags ready in can put them in the car knowing how to open your garage door if there is no power. Having access to that transportation as part of your backup plan and making sure you know if you have that medical equipment that requires technology or would make it longer to take you more time to evacuate making sure you're thinking that through and having a plan in place. You know maybe you were planning on relocating to a place that might be having power there is a lot of counties that are affected by the 2nd public safety power shutoff. Reno bound Reno boundary. But also you know to one line connecting point does have resources for those that do not have any other options so we're encouraging people to call 211 by dialing 211 or 1833 dial 21 want to see you have any specific needs. Where they're not being met men you're wondering what resources are out there so where are the 211 operators located I'm just curious Yeah so they're located in a brand. Like Basin Ok but when we have our Yossi open they've been operating out of our emergency operation center which has been a great partnership and we're so thankful to have them getting resources and information out to the community All right well it's 629 almost here on a Friday afternoon or Friday evening and it's going to be an interesting weekend absolutely take care of yourself and your neighbors All right Taylor Well from the Office of Emergency Services here in Nevada County thank you thank you Steve you want to just throw in a chime there well I think just I mean 13 years as everybody said is that preparation is key here. And folks are just this is this is we're playing with real dangerous circumstances. I mean their 3rd talking about this being the largest wind event of the year and then actually course they could be wrong you know but boy they are certainly not looking that way when you look at the various forecasts and that are they're talking about 45 to 50 mile an hour winds here in the in the in the Valley County up to 60. The only place that is going to be going to have higher than that years not reading. So no fires people no candles outside no fires outside nothing a little spark with a 50 mile an hour wind we've got trouble so it's all of us together looking around you know do the $360.00 around here and just you know your neighbors take care of each other and you know I just passed I was going to the list of where people were being. Are going to lose power Santa Cruz and actually more people in Santa Cruz are going to lose power than they are then across counties and here in Nevada County and that's pretty strange and there and the number in Alameda County is larger than here as well as Alameda County not exactly known for being very rural You know. So it's Stay tuned to k.b. More we're going to be around for your friends we've got the generators already again thank goodness Nevada City provides us with natural gas so we have that always will be here for you to k.b.r. a Film about the City of you know running a little late on the news we're going to keep going for a minute I got morning marshal from the Grass Valley downtown Association in here about 2 hours ago talk with us about what's going on in Grass Valley so I thought I'd play that for you know it's time for the grass rally downtown Association report with morning marshal Marni thanks for coming over and joining us it's been an interesting week in Grass Valley and it's going to be even more interesting this weekend isn't it indeed and concurrent with that so I've got some questions for you and I know you probably every time I ask anybody they go we're not getting information so you probably have the same thing but p.g. And e. Brought in actual big generators to repair our parts of the grid in Grass Valley on Wednesday which was really cool or on Thursday when the power was out so everybody's asking are they going to do it again do you have any information on that I don't have any direct information about that I actually noticed on Wednesday night and cruise through town right as it got dark and noticed that businesses had power for most of Grass Valley and I did notice on Facebook that the county gave out a notice that said some areas of Grass Valley had been reenergized so I was not told how that had happened and you know just heard from people that there were some generators on some power and so I've tried contacting all the people that might be able to tell me and I have not been able to receive a direct line of communications I'm sorry to say I don't know what will happen in downtown far as far as power and you know that the struggle is real that some people got generators for their businesses and we all know that the last one lots of people lost lots of money it's difficult this one some people didn't buy food because they didn't want to lose it some people. Generators everybody's doing the very best they can and we're just sorry about that and any losses and we're doing very best for our businesses and say Come support them I've heard some numbers from I will say the name of the grocery chain here but just amazing amount of losses in food loss yes we did a survey or merchants and we talked with other people who didn't take the survey and we have some numbers on what we can do is keep promoting when businesses are open so that we have the Internet and you can pick it up on Facebook you can know that and also know about the city chamber chamber downtown Association Pandora chamber the union k.b.r. Cancion and spiritual fine arts and other community leaders are banding together to promote going out and dining and shopping and going to see movie movies mostly on Wednesday November 6th there's a let's go out tonight night celebrating an evening out in about a city grassfire $10.00 just didn't help our local margins than business they've had some heavy losses for sure is there a specific website as it pertains to that one. Particular site all these organizations have this on their websites or their Facebook so we're sharing about a city chamber Pendle a chamber Grass Valley Chamber and preferably downtown Association. What we do we come together. So I imagine tonight everybody go out and enjoy yourself because we've got power all night and through the restaurants the clubs the movie theaters whatever and if you have questions to 11 just dialing 211 is a great resource so we've been encouraging everybody to call them not the police unless of course it is an emergency and they do have a lot of answers for people there is something really fun to do on Saturday in Grass Valley with its nice weather you can go to the opening of the Wolf Creek Trail So remember there was that sink. All in Grass Valley Well it's now been turned into a beautiful trail that's a good long beautiful trail for everybody to enjoy so the city of Grass Valley will be there handing out candy and dressed up so you gotta go it's from 10 to one and you can go over to the start of the Wolf Creek trails and enjoy those festivities Thanks morning or keeping us up to date on what's happening in our wonderful little town aggress our thanks and if you can visit our website downtown Grass Valley and our Facebook is also downtown Grass Valley where we've been posting lots of updates we've been talking with morning Marshall from the Grass Valley downtown Association thanks for. All right and you know that brought up an interesting question since I have you still here Taylor will from their Office of Emergency Services What do you know about the p.g.d. Bringing in those big generators to pump up the Grass Valley again yeah we're hopeful that it happens again we don't know for sure but you know we all experience when the evenings or shortly after we were shut off the last time areas of the Brunswick basin and downtown graph alley came on pretty quickly after that is because you do any considers this area I believe they call it a tier one it's considered low fire risk in a lot of the lines in that area are underground so. Again we're hopeful they'll be able to tie in those generators through their Brunswick Basin substation giving those parts of the Brunswick Basin power. Either continuous power or shortly reenergize you know if they do turn the power out Saturday afternoon at 3 pm this included areas like downtown Grass Valley I believe briar patch was a part of that. Great hatch that you Save Mart and Grocery Outlet I think Safeway was just outside of that but they are on generator power it seems and we've been hearing really uses open through that adage is as well sell All right thanks a lot once again to will from the Office of Emergency Services It's 636 on a Friday afternoon oh this is the Caribbean or evening news on Fulton proof that Steve Baker. Indeed it is and give some things to a business supporters you might like to thank our business reporters for their commitment to community radio and deceiving the broadcasting is supported by scraps of cat and dog bakery Alpine allergy offering to retire g.e. And Sacramento natural foods co-op also also 0 Kember line and natural and Grass Valley hydro garden automotive city atmosphere design build and that and you can get more information on these businesses can be found at the m r dot org slash underwriters and we got a call somebody wanted us to play the High-Low sound again quite frankly the video that the sheriff's office put out they don't really have a good quality 1st of the high Losartan things barely heard once but it's basically good it's just like in the Old English movies you know it's like. It's something like that it's a high and then a world and if you hear that middle of the night or night actually evacuated if you didn't evacuate Sinar felt Pruitt is in your house or I'm watching t.v. Next door you old British movie Pauly already 630 so we'll 638 now it's Friday evening and I think are we ready to wrap that at least the news the new section of it up if you've got anything 1000000 and I think that that that should cover it and we're going to be heading into the market see now and included in democracy now tonight will be any good in talking directly to cave your mar listeners All right this has been the case you are Evening News stay tuned to us all weekend long. You announced recently that the official policy of Facebook now allows politicians teams paid to spread disinformation I mean 2020 Alexion from in the future so I just want to know how far I can push this and then the next under your policy now you can censor data and well could id to target for prominently black or good prose and advertise them the incorrect Election Day you know Congresswoman you couldn't we we have just even before these policies around the newsworthiness content that politicians say in the general principle that I believe that but you said you're not going to talk back might we have if if anyone including a politician is saying things that can cause by just calling for violence or could risk even in physical harm or voter or sense of oppression when we roll out the simplest of questions policy. We will take that content so you will there is some threshold where you will fact check protocol advertisements is that when you're telling me Well Congresswoman Yes. And for specific things like that where there is imminent risk of harm really I will run ads targeting Republican primary saying that the vote is for the green you. Started Can you repeat that would I be able to run advertisements on Facebook targeting Republicans and primary thing that they voted to the green tea on I mean not fact checking political advertisement I'm just trying to understand. What's your name and. I don't know the answer to that up the top my head I think so you don't know if I'll be able to do you know I think. Do you see a potential problem here with a complete lack of a non-programmer time and well Congresswoman and I think aligning is bad and I think if you were to run an ad that had a law that would be bad that's different from it being edited from and working hard to defend the right thing to do to prevent. Your constituents or people in an election from seeing that you had lived the weekend. So you won't take down my eyes or you will take out my sentence a pretty simple yes or no congresswoman and not I'm not I'm talking about Actually yes in a democracy and I believe that people should be able to for themselves what politicians that they may or may not vote for him and won't take care for themselves so you want to make flag that it's wrong but you want to. Congresswoman and it's that easy it depends on the context that it shows up organic Post Adjutant between the one question one question in your ongoing dinner party with far right taking or someone who had a chance the conspiracy theory that white supremacy is a hoax Did you discuss the cockleshell media bias against conservative and Cindy believe there is a bias. Congresswoman. I don't remember everything that was in the sand and the question I'm on can you explain why you seem to be only collar publications white well documented with ties to white supremacists as an official fact checker for peace not Congressman sure we actually don't appoint independent fact checkers they go through an independent organization called the independent fact checker network that has a rigorous standards for who they are allowed to just sort of the fact checker don't you which say that white supremacist tied publications need a rigorous standards for checking. Thank you Congresswoman I would say that we're not the want to specify means that that standard be international sock checking that work is someone who does that and that's the gentleman for your. People using the face of what the percentage of black African Americans I don't think is going to collect racist if it came out in a report. That would say so maybe you just don't need a lot of things to do with civil rights for African-Americans I have a lot of questions I'm very sincere that I'm not going to be able to get settled and I would like an answer because this is appalling and disgusting to me Facebook c.e.o.
