Pictureperfect out there with blue skies truly across the entire state, whether up in the mountains and a blue bird day or down here in the city, where temperatures are a little warmer. The view across boulder and the flat irons, pictureperk. A great day to do some hiking. Temperatures in the mid40s. 50 degrees in longmont as well as sterling. But once you move up in elevation, those are the chillier readings at 9 in kremmling. A light breeze to the foothills. 26 mileanhour gusts to kenosha pass. Thats about it. The light winds continue for the next couple of day, as well as the quieter weather. And temperatures in the 50s up and cool off once the sun begins to set. And that is the way it will continue for the next couple of days. Temperatures just warm up for the weekend. Well, a woman is in custody after the disturbance in the 1500 block of north lowell boulevard close to the intersection of colfax avenue and federal boulevard. Another person is believed to be involved in the disturbance, now in the hospital, with injuries that are not life threatening. The incident caused three schools in the area to go on lockdown. Two Elementary Schools, and one middle school. They did that while police searched for the woman. Those lockouts have been lifted. And an offduty Jefferson County sheriffs deputy is fighting for his life, shot last night during an attempted apartment complex near apartment complex near Rangeview High School. Aurora police are still looking for one of the two suspects. 9 News Reporter noel brennan is following the investigation. Reporter this morning, police tape chriscrossed the apartment complex in aurora where the shooting happened. And detectives were actually walking through this athletic field, belonging to Rangeview High School, searching. Last night this school placed on lockdown, while police were searching for two suspects. The shooting happened about 7 20 last night, and Aurora Police say that that offduty Jefferson County deputy was it was an attempted robbery. Shots were exchanged. And the deputy was hit multiple times in the chest and the stomach. He did manage to hit one of the suspects in the leg. And a plan who lives nearby a man who lives nearby heard the shots and came outside and helped the deputy until police and paramedics arrived. Another guy that was there called 911. And i held his head up and put pressure on his wounds and started talking to him. He said it hurt, it hurt, where said there are people on the way. Reporter people searched from the air and on the ground for the two suspects and blocked off entire neighborhoods and put Rangeview High School on lockdown. There was a Boys Basketball game going on at the time. They did find one of the suspects. The one who had been shot in the leg. Police say he is a juvenile. And his injuries are not life threatening. As for the deputy, he was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He was in Critical Condition last night. Right now, Aurora Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call, or to call crimestoppers, and that number is 720, 913stop. Reporting in aurora, noel brennan, 9 news. The Jefferson CountySheriff Department sent an update, the step ty is listed as stable. Still in the icu. We are sending positive thoughts his way for a speedy recovery. Investigators are waiting for autopsy results to determine how a man in colorado died while in austria. The 25yearold woman has been of vienna as lauren mann. Police say her body was found at her apartment after she doesnt show up at work. Investigators found her on a mattress. They say she was next to what they call a considerable amount of blood. Now, the woman was working as an au pair while studying in austria. Boulder police are investigating threats that were made against Boulder High School last night. Investigators say they were made aware of a threat after a screen shot of a text message was posted on social media. They are working to find out where those texts originated. The Boulder ValleySchool District sent out a note to parents that said the threats were violent in nature. Police say they are stepping up patrols on the High School Campus and the surrounding neighborhoods. Anyone who may have information about all of these threats should call boulder police. And an Elementary School substitute teacher and nine other people are accused of trying to sleep with underaged girls. Homeland security investigation officer arrested the group after a twoday sting. And all have child sex trafficking and soliciting a child prostitute and attempted investigators say three of the 10 that are here are here illegally from mexico. Two others hold positions of public trust. Three of the suspects appeared in court yesterday. The rest of those suspects, including substitute teacher, will face a judge today. That teacher, david hocker, had taught at warren village in denver. We called the school to ask whether they conducted a background search on him but no one has gotten back to us. A spokesman for the undercover teen says hocker may be tied to other sex crimes. A pedestrian is seriously hurt after getting struck by a car in denver. It happened this morning, at leesdale and quebec. The victim was rushed to the hospital. No word on the persons condition at this time. And we now know the name of a man killed while waiting at a bus stop in lakewood. Police say 81yearold Charles Patman drove up on a sidewalk and hit Franklin Nelson before slamming into the side of a walmart. He told officers a medical mechanical problem with his car caused the crash. He could face charges. A wildlife refuge in oregon, a plan was killed last night as the fbi and Oregon State Police moved in to arrest leaders. A total of eight people were arrested. Including the groups main leaders, brothers amon and ryan bundy. They are all facing felony charges of conspiracy to impede federal officers from duties. The group seized the National Wildlife refuge january 2. In the wake of a protest in a nearby home. That protest surrounded the imprisonment of two ranchers convicted of setting fires on government land. They vow to stay there until federally owned land was returned back to the people. Right now, we dont know 0 how many protesters remain on the refuge at that time. And people in california are on the brink of losing their homes. The apartment complex in pacifica sits on a cliff that is crumbling to pieces. Residents are told they have to move out because of the dangerous conditions and regardless of those condition, some people are fighting to where else can you live along the coast, for like 1,500 a month . There is also a conflict with the debate between the democratic president ial candidates. Hillary clinton and bernie sanders. Clinton wants to add a debate before the New Hampshire the znc and sanders says he has no thought about taking part. The official debate is thursday, february 11 for the next official debate. Health Officials Say the zika virus has spread to more countries and one airline is hoping to help those who have trips planned to those infected also, a photo from the big snowstorm in the northeast is going viral. And it is going to be the trend the next couple of days and everything comes to an end next week. As we have this next fairly large storm that looks to be barreling in to the state. It is going to help out the high country. As well as folks down here. Looking at a little bit of snowfall. This is the view out there, at brads peak. Skiers and snowboarders enjoying the views. Students heading to campus under the bright blue skies. Tough to go to class on a day like this. Sterling, to the south and eastern plain, springfield and trinidad. 30s. And gunnison, believe it or not, you have warmed up a couple of degrees. But still, at 2 below. Right now at the airport, 46. And we have mostly sunny skies. And the winds are shifting out of the east, only 3 miles an hour. In the 9 backyard as well. With our temperature readings on the way up. As we are sitting at 48 degrees. And you can see, by this afternoon, a lot of spots will warm up, with all of this sunshine that we have. And many locations, back in the 50s, like denver, and same in the eastern plains, and possibly flirting with some marks in the 60s, pueblo, lamar, and then warm things up just a bit to the 20s and 30s out west. And it is right now, on hd doppler 9, checking a couple of light showers and pushing to the gulf coast line and into florida, and then this next little system, just clipping parts of minneapolis. Parts of minneapolis. And bringing them a little bit of snow. Around much of the west, it has been so quiet. A nice change of pace from the storms that have been whipping around through here. And things will be looking pretty quiet and calm as we go throughout the next couple of days. And only warming up in the temperature department, too. Here it is. 7 00 tomorrow morning. No issues on that drive. It is beautiful. And whether youre going up i 70 to the mountains, tomorrow afternoon, or evening. And no wet weather to deal with. And then by tomorrow night, we will have a couple of high level clouds, sitting over the city. And we need some more snowfall around here. We have only had about three inches for the month of january. And putting our seasonal snowfall right now at 26. 1 inches. Typically by the calendar season we should be around 57. So we need more. And thats exactly what is going to be going on in our forecast. Our jet stream map, just indicating that that big trough of low pressure is going to be dipping into colorado. And as we go throughout the early part of next week. Monday and into tuesday. It looks like a goodsized snowstorm. Barreling into the region. Right now, this again, early estimates, the central and southern mountains will be looking at most of the snowfall, and again, upwards to a foot, or two, and around the denver metro area, a good upper component to the storm and that should allow many areas to see possibly up to a foot of snowfall by tuesday evening. And tonight, not the case, we have mostly clear skies, and down to the mid20s. And it should be quiet and calm. And then look at this. Your planning forecast, only is the warm before the storm. And close to 60 degrees. On friday. And we might have an isolated shower here and there on saturday even can. And other than that, we will start to see the cool air pour into the state on sunday. With highs in the upper 30s. And then that snow starts moving in, monday morning, bringing us, like i said, possibly a foot of fresh snowfall by tuesday afternoon, and much cooler temperatures. Welcome back. The zika virus is spreading to more countries around the world. The tally is now at least 22. Including the united states. This morning, a hospital in denmark confirmed a tourist there contracted the virus while visiting central and southern america. Doctors say there is not much risk of the zika virus spreading in denmark because the mosquito carrying the virus is not in the country. We want to give you a closer look at the virus. It is spread by mosquitoes. And it is part of the same disease family as yellow fever, west nile and dengue fever. There is no treatment or vaccine available right now. Most people will be fine if they get the virus. In fact, 80 dont even show symptoms. But it could be linked to birth defects, and developmental issues for babies. So if you plan a trip to an area that is infected by the zika virus and dont want to go, you can get your money back, United Airlines is have planned to travel to those affected areas, and united will allow customers cancel or postpone the trip. And the cdc warned pregnant women to not travel to those areas. And the United Airlines covers every country in the cdc travel alert. Many stories came out of coast last week. Attention. Complete strangers came to the rescue of a truck driver who lost control of the storm and situation. It was an incredible act of courage by a group of strangers on the pennsylvania turnpike. We were trying to help this guy. Diesel fuel everywhere. The truck is smoking. And it is a dangerous scene. The storm was intensifying. The driver lost control of his rig near bedford. The trug dangling perilously off the highway. Arlen, a driver with pleasant trucking scaled the hill i didnt hear anyone from anything. I didnt hear anyone come up with a plan. What happened next, nearly brought him to tears. To me, it just looked like this spontaneous instinctive thing. That everyone just started hooking their arms together. The driver was hurt. But arlen didnt interfere with the chain of helping hands. Instead, he stepped back and snapped this picture. And i knew i had to get a picture. I want to remember this. Because this is amazing. This is inspiring. This was the beginning of nearly 48 hours of trouble on the turnpike. Down the road, traffic again would come to a halt, where 30 hours. And for this father, his mind was on getting home, in one piece, and his heart warmed by pennsylvania highway. When it comes down to it, and someone is in a catastrophic dangerous situation, for most people, i think their instinct is i got to help. Well, that is so inspiring. That was john holden reporting. That truck driver was hurt. But he is expected to survive. Well, there are some determine which pesticides can be used to produce Recreational Marijuana here in colorado. Which is why many growers turn to pesticides. But the governors marijuana coordinator says not all pesticides are appropriate for pot. Right now, state law requires a list of all banned pesticides, and that turns out, the list is really long. Thousands of products long. So the bill is aiming to change that to a short list of products that are safe to use. It is like we have, with beer, or wine, or any other product you are getting off the shelf, you have a right to know before you put it in your body. State representative Jonathan Singer says the federal government would normally decide what pesticides can be used on which crops. But not for pot. Since it is still banned under federal law. So instead, the state is working on a plan of its own. Are you looking for a place to live in the metro area . That might be easier these days. The citys Apartment Association says the vacancy rate has gone from 44 to nearly 7 4 to nearly 7 the last few months. And the northwest part of denver leads the way with 17 vacancy rate.
