Accident investigators are here now, beginning their work. I want to take you into that squad car. You can see the front is completely smashed up after the accident. We know this happened about 1 15 in the morning. We have video too, as First Responders were still here. The fire department, along with westminister police. We know this happened as an officer was on his way to a disturbance call involving a gun. The intersection, headed southbound on federal, when another car that was headed northbound on federal attempted to turn on to west 88th. That is when the squad car ended up hitting the other car. The driver of the other car died at the scene. The officer has minor injuries, and should be okay. One of the things we have asked police about and have not gotten an answer to yet is whether or not the officer had his lights and siren on when he was passing through this intersection. Still dont know the answer to that question. Investigators are looking into that no doubt, guys, just beginning their work here at 88th and federal. This area will likely be closed for some time. Day one started with the victim and she remembers in great Michelle Wilkins took the stand to testify against lane yesterday. Wilkins went to lanes home to buy maternity clothes listed on a craigslist ad. When she was about to leave she said lane started pushing or scratching her. At first she thought she had a bug or spider on her but then she was shoved in a bedroom and lane smashed a bottle on her led. Wilkins said one thing was on her mind, her unborn baby she had already named aurora. First she grabbed a pillow and she was trying to smother me with a pillow and i was wiggling my arms and trying to knock away the pillow. At one point she did have it over my face and i was trying to keep breathing. I just remember i kept asking her why she was doing that. I just kept saying why . Why are you doing this . Her testimony was so hard to we were reminded lane had mourned the death of her own child in the early 2000s. In Court Wilkins said she stayed so long with lane at the house as an abet of kindness because she said lane was lonely. Ahead today, a man accused in a hash oil drug deal gone wrong is due in court. Fernando santiago is accused of attempted murder. A 16yearold girl and her dog were injured in the shooting outside the target in march of 2015. They both recovered. Aurora police say the teen made an arrangement with santiago and two other men to buy the hash oil, but when they met the suspects tried to rob the victim and that is when a shot was fired. 5 36 right now.
