Rudy's wires entering an American citizen from sea to shining sea what a difference a freedom I'm permitted any Gillum who walk the frontlines of freedom team really appreciate you joining us this fine day in America here's we have for this hour we're going to drop by maybe Navy vet Jeff Wilson to discuss his latest book in his cold water and we'll review the movie the month with the hand raver and naturally we will review last weekend's scabby football games and will conclude with our weekly mailbag military history I'm going to report troops I welcome your comments and questions contact me through frontlines of freedom dot com It's a pleasure to introduce Navy vet Jeff Wilson he's quite a writer indeed your 5th book in your fear one series is about to come out as yeah that's correct that's the theory that Brian and I write together it but when we make a living so we're always excited when one of those come to us and you've got your parole officer as I think of Brian Andrews with you today who introduced Brian Yeah Brian Andrews is the key to the whole thing we kid around a lot but I will tell you Brian is another Davey veteran submarine officer and all around super intellectual guy he is definitely the brains of our operation after the Navy he went on to get is m.b.a. At Cornell and was a park leadership fellows so I just bask in his reflected glory by and you got him well trained don't you Brian. That's for sure but you know he can cash that check now for that nice. Well anyway welcome guys Jeff start by giving us a quick review your time in the Navy Yes sure so my entire life including my Navy career is a little bit schizo frantic I've done lots of different things started out in aviation before I got a motorcycle accident and went and did some other government service for awhile left that to go to medical school so I could live a life of peace and then they crashed the planes into those towers and it pissed me off so I went back into the Navy as a surgeon deployed with the United States Marine Corps a 1st team surgeon and then after that point to Iraq was recruited to serve in naval special warfare where I spent the rest of my naval career as a combat surgeon with East Coast based Seal team and Brian tell us about your story I served as a nuclear submarine officer on a fast track submarine stationed out of Pearl Harbor and after that my 1st tour and went to business school like Jeff mentioned an introduction and after that that some entrepreneurial things but I always had this deep seated desire to tell stories and write a book and just kind of mission over to running full time and what Jeff will sounds like fun I spent about 4 hours on a submarine once I'm $63.00 and I found every piece of metal for head high. So I'm glad you liked it because I certainly would not have done a good job there Ok it is an interesting life if you're just a cog in the machine you're literally inside the guts of machine just it's like ants crawling around inside a hive you're there to work for that reactor and and that platform it's an interesting psychological experiment really well Jeff we've interacted before and will again. Start by tell us what tell us about the serial one series. Well the Tier one series is I have to give credit where credit is due it was born out of a germ of an idea that Brian had Brian and I were both writers already and Thriller fest in New York a few years ago and he had this idea to sort of combine our backgrounds of special warfare and submarines I mean suggested maybe we could write some books together doing submarines and seals and that sort of thing and so it sort of borne out of that the idea for this book this series the 1st book in this series introduces us to John Dempsey who is a former Tier one seal his entire unit is wiped out in a horrible ambush overseas and he's the lone survivor and is given the opportunity by his former c.s.o. Now works for a spooky organization called Amber to have a new identity and join him and dedicate his like to hunting down those responsible so that's sort of the Tier one series that its initial evolution but it's evolved into a lot more the amber team which is what John Dempsey leads as a direct action assaulter is more than just deals they do spy missions and covert operations and so it's a very small unit direct action team that hunts down the worst of the worst around the world and so we just really had a great time writing the series it's been well received and boy what a fun ride it's been that I believe the scrutiny Goleman from was a freedom we're discussing some interesting novels with Geoff Wilson and Brian Andrews Brian talk about the book that's going to come out it's next month that is coming out right that's correct book 5 in a tear one series The title was actor and it's the 2nd book in our rush a trilogy so the tear one series is back to back trilogies the 1st 3 books focused on the Middle East and Iran and these next 3 books are focusing on Russia as they can and false flag operations to destabilize their own and American interest in Europe and the Middle East. And our main character still there oh for sure he's on down dance matter with his through all the series What's one thing that's fun about our series I think is that we do have characters that come and go we try to incorporate other organizations at times Amber will work with the i.a.e.a. Genser they'll work with elements of the CIA or they'll work with maybe seals or Army Rangers and so there's a lot of characters that come and go for the core element of the unit this am the shadowy ember team is John Dempsey and his merry band of assaulters including Elizabeth Grimes who has become a series favorite and is their designated sniper now and we've got Dan Mon and there's a lot of cool players but that team and John Dempsey in particular pull through as a threat in all of the series that's cool I have not read all your books I think I've read 2 of them in that series and what I appreciated was it's real my b.s. Alarm didn't go off saying yeah right that I felt that we have to do we have to worry that Denny because you know we're both tied to the community so we have people that are going to call us on it and we don't want those phone calls like what are you fighting we work really hard to find some authenticity and I think you do if you just write about characters instead of technology you know what I mean yes that's a good point I never thought of it that way the book is going to come out next month how can people buy a copy I presume Amazon's How do they get copies. Yeah the book is available for sale on Amazon and autumn so if you like digital you can get your Kindle version if you like paper you can order a paperback for if you're into audio books we have a fantastic voice actor Cape May Porter Award winning actor he performs the whole series does all the characters and that's available on Audible I'm going to get one of those because I really like listening to books while I'm driving so that's a huge ever thought about that there's a lot of people that Brian you're a big ol guy right you know for the same reason and he was just imagining I mean when you're in the car and you you're commuting or you are going on a trip you know that's just it time and it's great to have a story told to specially by the you know professional voice actors who really bring all the characters to life the time just cruises by you know you'll be listening for 3 hours and you won't even realize that that time is gone but yeah I totally agree Jeff gives a wrap up what do you want listeners to take away from our conversation today about this book What's the best stuff about all I think that what we do particularly well especially with our military background is right realistic compelling character so we do everything we can to get the geopolitics right I'll tell you we've been very blessed very lucky at times that we seem almost prescient in that we write things and 6 months later they stand up and I've got to say we're geniuses but it's just a lot so those things are fun and exciting but I think what brings our books to life in the Tier one series is the characters and writing realistic covert operators instead of the superheroes men of steel that you tend to see in t.v. And film we write them is real people with real relationships and fallibilities and project that has that time and so I think that's what makes it different that in fact we try to do the same thing with our bad guys so our antagonists also we give the motivation you know every every bad guy is a good guy in his own mind and we try to reflect that in the books and give them some depth of character as well instead of just the guy at the cabinet chair and we try to make realistic compelling antagonists as well so I think that's the thing that sets the Tier one series up. Pardon why it's been so well recently you've made a really good point because your terrorist could be my freedom fighter bright bad guys aren't necessarily bad guys but they are bad to us Brian what you're far right they're different goals right that's the only difference Brian what's your final thought I think Jeff really nailed it right there you know we try to fill this cast of characters as a family and the John Dancy and his team mates on this task force you know their family and now that we're on book side working on book 6 I mean you've lived with these people now for 3 years you've gone through all the ups and downs both professional and personal that they've experienced as they try to serve and protect the Constitution an interesting night States but also to try to find a way to manage their own personal loss and difficulties that come with operating at the point of the spear so you feel like you're part of that family I feel when you're reading the story well said Guys thank you Jeff thank you for joining us today it's always such a pleasure to talk to you Denny anytime and Brian good to meet you I hope to have you guys back again you too thanks so much for this interview and thank you guys for your books and for your service to our nation I appreciate your God bless you I'm going to give them the next novel review the movie the month with Diane Raper Then with us we can survive because all games vomit reported for duty to run through them this is going to give them one of the balance on one foot for 3 minutes then bounce on the other foot we're going to do this while thinking patriotic thoughts I'll be right back. Kate you are an. One can really give thanks for joining us today on frontlines of freedom it's a pleasure to welcome our team member Diane raver from the card State Film Festival back to the show to review this month's movie of the month so welcome back Diana glad to have you Thank you Danny it's always an honor and a privilege to be with you a real good team members yes I am the movie you provided for us for this month remembering the fallen was amazing and hard moving and yet no words were spoken How did you feel when you 1st saw this movie that it was a movie Amazingly I thought I was going to say I thought that it uses the craft of filmmaking beautifully in that it was very moving yet the it was you know again as you say M.O.'s made outstanding as they say in the business and that. The cinematography was beautiful it was just a beautiful piece of independent filmmaking and I was very pleased to to share it with you Well it was so touching you know I'm fond of saying how big tough Army Airborne Ranger I never cry but sometimes my sweat Well maybe my. The other thing a bad it was that even under the redeeming quality of this film was even under the most horrendous of circumstances and you know we will all agree that war although to sometimes necessary is just you know Hell is to quote. Dead humanity still exist in that you know yeah obviously this was a young boy who you know was just following orders and it was it was just so redeeming to see that you know that the Allied fellow you know helped him along his way yeah this is really the story of 2 young men one was a German soldier World War one or 2 and the other one was French am I right I believe French Yes Ok well as a combative interment I felt the movie was both accurate and amazing in the story here are some of the listener comments one an amazing movie and one with no words it's rare to get my attention with no words to I can't imagine coming to all laying on a battlefield wounded because that's how our hero the Frenchman he suddenly found himself laying on the battlefield with just one and apparently nobody else around him that was scare the heck out of me wouldn't you absolutely so I'm laying there on a battlefield wounded surrounded by dead soldiers finding I can still move but not sure where to go that not sure where to go is with think that would have I think rattled my cage seriously but it's certainly part of the story and the next comment was it must be horrible to find yourself wounded in the gut bleeding hurting no help and no idea what to do that sure sets up another to keep my attention right. The next comment I can imagine the pain of staying in full combat rig and walking and walking and getting nowhere obviously and keep walking the guy just kept going on I guess the desire to live does that I was just in the saide speech to our survival instinct doesn't it Danny I mean what a wonderful thing that the universe gave us all the such a marvelous survival instinct. Then he heard and found a wounded German soldier on the ground he approached him tactically weapons pointed out and everything realized this guy was like him sat down and they shared with each other it was almost like they recognize each other as brothers and just acted like brothers. Again that speaks to the universal universal ality of of you know us is humans on this planet and even in opposing. You know they pose the oppositions are usually political and you know basically we're all humans on this planet in this mess together and what a what a what a beautiful film the way it brought that out I just thought it was beautifully presented and I don't know that it would be true but it was it was beautifully presented to you know speak to our humanity I just loved it yes I agree all betta did happen on occasion this is true. This is hurt if you go among friends of freedom were discussing the movie of the month with Diane raver next comment I didn't know if I should be surprised or not when the German gave him his pistol and clearly wanted to be shot and put out of his pain but the Frenchman didn't shoot it you know if I'm your brother and you really are in pain and want to get out of pain on the other hand I want to shoot. I don't think I would have shot it either but wow after a while I got up I thought he was going to shake the Germans hand and leave but he pulled him up and took him with him wasn't that beautiful oh just beautiful you talk about the brotherhood of man there it was they were brothers and indeed the next comment is I guess is an example of what they mean when they say soldiers are brothers national was wherever they ended up they both apparently survived the war and at least our guy lived a good life as we don't know which guy was the movie was about one of them lived a good life because he was there with his family took him there to their grave presumably because he knew where his buddy was buried his buddies musta lived a pretty good life and they musta stayed in touch a bit after the war that's my assumption and it's interesting how the leaf the movie started with a leaf coming down out of a tree and landing on the the guy slap at the end leaf came down out of the tree and landed I noticed that that was very 1st Gump with the feather Yeah it was beautifully that beautifully crafted it was lovely it tied the whole thing together so Diane you did it again you picked a movie that was just awesome we got to get not a minute or so talk to us about the Garden State Film Festival. Well we're seeing the entries are pouring in and oh my god they're wonderful of course the dates for our March 25th through the 29th 2020 in Asbury Park New Jersey love to see any and all of your listeners be with us we're just thrilled to be with you once a month and. Welcome back to financial freedom I'm Colonel Denny Gillum I really do welcome your comments or questions troops contact me through phone lots of freedom dot com order on Facebook groups as you know a service academy football season and joining me of course is my buddy our cup football co-host Quint Roberts welcome back bro let's start with the winners Navy 35 to 3 and air forces 2056 to 26 where do you start 1st about how why you want to start or. Well Danny we can go to the island of Oahu where and how to Lulu the capital city where the Air Force Falcons rumbled to a 56 to 26 when at the wiring bowls for the 2nd straight week Air Force term a close firsthand game into a blowout when I was it was really rather impressive and this lifted the Falcons to 5 and 2 on the season and 3 and one in Mountain West play it was senior Mike Schmidt who came in at quarterback when starter Donald Hammond The 3rd was injured on the 1st drive of the game for the Falcons it looked bleak when they had to go to the backup quarterback but as the Montreux goals next man up in the Falcon all fans did not miss a beat they turned out $522.00 yards of off ramps with $353.00 coming on the ground Schmidt also threw for $147.00 yards on just 5 completions including a $75.00 yard touchdown strike to Durata Sanders for his 1st career touchdown pass the Schmidt didn't stop there though he led the Falcons it with 120 yards and rushing as well and 3 touchdowns so for a senior to come off of the bench to have that kind of a game was just a real testament to the young man himself and to the coaching staff are having him ready to play because you just never know when you're going to have to step up and it will be called upon Air Force held a 28 to 20 lead at halftime and outscored Hawaii in the 2nd half 28 to 6 The Rainbow's dropped to 43 overall and one in 2 in the Mountain West Conference. Rousing victory for the Falcons as they want to why Dan and I could say they moved 2 to 5 and 2 as of now with their only 2 losses coming to Navy unfortunately. And see they would be Colorado where they had one of the losses the scapes right now but they moved 5 and 2 and are on their way to another really good season in a bowl season where they can return to a bowl game. Boise State with the other team at last 2 who still undefeated as a matter of fact. Ok well that's a winner and Navy Whoa whoa whoa that you know sell floor for. A long walk home today 35 years wow I tell you what Navy really brought out the Big 1000 and the aircraft carriers and everything else boy did they really hound South Florida 35 to 3 I tell you what the story of the season for the Navy is their defense. In every game but won their won loss they've held James under under 25 points Air Force has scored the most 25 points in that maybe victory so the defense for Navy is really on a are really taking the team to another level they're getting steady play from senior quarterback Malcolm Perry who finished with 188 yards on 22 carries on a pair of touchdowns he went over 3000 yards rushing for his career joining Keenan Reynolds Napoleon McCallum and Chris McCoy as the only Navy players to accomplish that feat the midshipman have a 3 game winning streak for the 1st time since 2017 when they won 5 straight to start the year going back to the defense they were led by junior linebacker Jacob Springer who had a career high 3 sacks as well as freshman challenge arms who had an interception the minutes have had 17 sacks on the here. And last year in total finished with only 10 that shows you how much they have improved on defense South Florida dropped to $3.00 and $4.00 wanted to win American Athletic Conference So again Navy is is really looking good they stay open the scoring it was maybe early and often. As they took a they went up 21 c. Row before South Florida got on board with a field goal. In the 2nd quarter and so they went to the have 21 to 3 maybe tacked on 14 more points in the 4th quarter to just pull away at 35 to 3 not their. 5th victory of the season and 6 tries done good this is going to go on from a freedom we're discussing service academy football with Quint Roberts and my home team my alma mater army they lost to Georgia State 21 to 28 at least it wasn't a big loss but some days us and some days you know when an army needs to get back in the winning stage. You know that any army is it's a ploy if you talk about. Going to see a fall from grace but outfit returned to Earth anyway in 0 after last year's tremendous record setting season they have fallen to 3 in 4 and just don't seem to click like the quite like they did last year as they failed at Georgia State $28.00 to $21.00 in Atlanta Georgia Army was led by commerce Connor slammed with $89.00 yards on the ground and Georgia State had a total of 379 yards on all fronts with 232 coming through the air. Georgia State took advantage of a miscue on a fake punt by army and took a 70 lead with 747 left to go in the 1st quarter on a 24 yard touchdown strike from Ellington to Pinckney and now Army did not give up though they they again they fought back and they fought and they fought and they made it a game and as the they wanted to have tied Fort team for team and army took the lead in the 3rd quarter 2114. Georgia State came back scored in the 4th quarter but army continued to drive the ball and on a 4th down play on their final drive. Calvin how can this was intercepted as it within the 5 yard line as army was trying to score the. Timing and touchdown an extra point and so they just fell short again they didn't it wasn't that they played so poorly. It was pretty much an evenly matched game as Army had a total of $343.00 yards but they had the 2 turnovers killed them and even though they dominated the time of possession 38 minutes to Georgia State's 21. Yes sir well next week army gets to host San Jose State Navy host Tulane and Air Force host Utah Utah state that's right then they sure do and I tell you tough state is a is a pretty good team Denning it's going to be a tough match up for air force they're going to be an underdog in this game and the Falcons are going to have to really really play well in order to how to come away with a victory when you look at Army they are going to kick off against San Jose State their governor after their 2 camera trip they return home again sandals a state their favorite by 9 points. In that game and of course Navy. See who they have next week they held to line for homecoming so. You know hopefully the maids will be able to pick up where they left off and and continue their role well said my my friend there's a really good chance that we will be able to celebrate 3 victories as we look at this weekend's games so everybody be cheering for Army Navy and Air Force. Your folks in your state that's easy s g r dot mil Well the other day I was thinking about my time in Mother Army and I remembered that during my pleader West Point we had to eat at attention very stiff and square there were times when we didn't get a lot to eat well Wednesday night was steak night and it was traditional If the police at each dining room table would provide a skit or some other entertainment for the upper classman and as a result they would be allowed to fall out or eat normally. I don't remember why but I was in the school's very extensive museum earlier that week and saw a really mean looking Nazi made submachine gun back in those innocent days I just checked that out I was going to do a skit with a German accent we played good enjoy our steaks well I couldn't carry it into the mess hall as we marched informally So I went to the mess hall early and placed the machine gun on my chair Well one of the waiters who was repairing the table as for the meal stumbled on my machine gun freaked out and someone in authority came and took it imagine my surprise when I got there and my submachine gun was missing concern didn't last long as an author showed up at the table with my weapon wanted to know which dump leave it left a machine gun or civilian waiters to get to it I got a good chewing it out without a good laugh and I did enjoy my steak kernel you screwed up but I got to tell you it was worth it just so that we can laugh about it decades later it's true and the steak was good too now as most are history time laid out skip on 31 October 1941 the Us Navy destroyer Reuben James was torpedoed by a German u. The vehicle owner called police immediately to report what had happened and waited for the officers to arrive the woman with the car jacker allegedly fled the scene however police reportedly found her hiding in an area residents and arrested her she was booked in jail on 2 felony counts including armed robbery Thanks Colonel This story is the oldest trick in the book but one that still works and is used time and time again with great effectiveness since the dawn of time criminals have used women to act as decoys to distract unsuspecting victims sometimes a woman will knock on your door while armed men wait hiding in the bushes while other times they sneak up from behind while you're talking to the woman from inside your own vehicle Well it's a natural instinct for men to be distracted by women it's paramount that you not lower your guard when a woman you don't know approaches you in a public space sometimes they feign helplessness and want you to go with them somewhere or give them a ride this is a bad idea for a lot of reasons don't fall for it I'm not saying you should never help a damsel in distress I'm just saying you should listen to your gut instincts and be very very careful in this case the young man was aware enough and brave enough to draw and fire his gun before he was stabbed one of the challenges here is getting out of the car without getting stabbed or shot police officers refer to their vehicles as mobile coffins when faced with a gun wielding attacker get out of the vehicle as you draw your gun and seek the cover of the engine block if the attacker has a knife shot unlock the door if possible and then draw your gun this young man did a great job keeping his cool and taking down the bad guy my word of advice chivalry isn't dead but you just might be if you fall prey to a nefarious damsel in distress that's like seriously good real truth.
