Into the carolinas after leaving georgia shaking. Came upon it and there were a ton of people. Still developing, 30 kids and adults scrambling for survival as the boat capsizes. One child trapped. This couldve been catastrophic. Good evening. We begin with breaking news. A train has derailed east of new york city injuring several people as a burst into flames. Rescuers say a passenger train struck a maintenance train injuring at least 11 people. Theyve been taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Train service in the area is still shut down. It is a breaking story and any new information will get it right out you. 3 children and 5 others rushed to the hospital after a boat capsized in the bay throwing dozens of people into the cold water. This is the scene moments later. The coast guard and nearby boaters rushed into save them. The boat is now fully underwater in the bay. Lease are investigating how the boat with 30 passengers ended up capsizing and then sinking during the air show. 3 children were on board and taken to the hospital after being in the water. One child was pulled from the water unconscious. And is still listed in critical condition. The annual fleet week airshow draws people to the water to get a better view. During the show about 100 yards from. 45 one boat carrying 30 people capsized and started sinking. Thats not normal. Came up on it and there were 10 of people in the water. Reporter a fisherman called for help. Pulled out of the water bite postcard coast guard boats. There were so many people on the water the regular boaters and fishermen were helping rescuers pull passengers out of the water. But the real danger came when they realized a father and son were trapped in the whole of the capsized boat. I know one person who swam into the cabin of the boat to get the child. There was one child, approximately 5 years old, a citizen started cpr. He is transported to the hospital in lifethreatening condition. 5 adults and 3 children were taken to the hospital after being submerged in the cold bay water. This couldve been catastrophic. We had 30 people in the water. For this to have the outcome that it did, is a lot of good fortune. Lease say they are investigating how the boat capsized and sunk. One witness speculated there may have been too many passengers on board. Police say that is something they are looking into. Both Young Children who were taken to the hospital had stabilized and were conscious. We saw in the vote some people were wearing life jackets. Did everyone have one . That is what investigators are looking into. Whether everyone on board had lifejackets. It is law that any child under 12 must have a life jacket on. We were told that some of the civilian boaters the came by to help, they were throwing out any additional lifejackets or floating rafts they had on board. That is another thing investigators are looking into. Whether or not everyone had lifejackets. Developing now in palm springs. A gunman baby in a home after killing 2 officers and wounded a 3rd. Woman called police say she was having trouble with her son. Police say when they arrived the sun would not open the door and threatened to short start shooting. Gunfire rang out and all 3 officers were rushed to the hospital and 2 did not survive. Today 3 officers put their boots on the ground every day everyone in the community. One officer was a 35 year officer of the vote force. He was set to retire in 2 months. The other just returned to work after giving birth 4 months ago. The survivor has not been identified but he is doing well. Governor brown spoke. Officers were killed today doing what they do every day. Protecting their community. We have to report at least one person in savannah was killed last night at the height of the storm when a tree fell on their house. There is a dusk to dawn curfew they are enforcing. We have seen a lot of officers every few minutes driving up and down a street. This is some of the debris. This is a traffic light that fell off. Right now the situation with Hurricane Matthew, obviously is continuing up the east coast. But down here the Damage Assessment begins. Officials say matthew still has the potential to bring deadly flooding and storm surge to the carolinas. With up to 15 inches of rain expected in some areas. Stay off the roads. Stay in your house. Because at this point in time there are deadly conditions. Reporter saturday the storm struck 2 of the most historic and oldest cities. Savannah georgia in charleston South Carolina. Streets were flooded and trees to the ground. You do not plan on going back home today or tomorrow. It will not be safe. Between downed power lines and trees, and unsafe structures. Reporter earlier matthew hit florida with storm surges measuring more than 4 feet. There is a lot of beach erosion. You will see the storm surge has an impact. Were still blessed, be thankful it did not hit direct impact. Reporter the storm knocked out power to more than 1 Million People. Hurricane matthew also is being blamed for multiple deaths in the us. This catastrophe this weekend is something else. Reporter that is part of the roof from the Outback Steakhouse. Another section made its way all the way across bay street. Forecasters say Hurricane Matthew will eventually go out into the atlantic and begin to lose steam. Then they say it could take up steam connecting with another hurricane, nicole, and the possibility to boomerang and come back to florida next week is very real. The big question now is where is matthew headed next . Tonight it looks like the big focus for the heavy rain has been in portions of North Carolina. Weve been tracking this hurricane for almost one week. The best way to describe this storm is like a bus stop moving up the east coast into the carolinas. We will show you the circulation. This is very heavy rain moving into portions of North Carolina and virginia. The yellows and oranges correspond to the intense rain bands. Coming in closer, were talking about the track. You can see, this is the historical track, to the east of georgia before making landfall in the carolina this weekend. Significant rain in this region. All of these are storm reports in this area. Some of the numbers have been adding up. The flooding has been a key concern for portions of the area. You can see this report, almost 13 inches of rainfall. Heavy rain reports for those areas of North Carolina. This is a category 1 hurricane. 75mph. Moving east northeast at 14mph. Here is the track moving out to the east into the atlantic. We will see what happens beyond monday. If it curves back toward florida. In the shortterm matthew will continue to be a significant rain producer for portions of the east coast. Reporter ross, Hurricane Matthew really did skip along the florida coast. But while that was good for florida it was sort of more unfortunate for this region. Which is getting hit hard with some flooding up in charleston and in fayetteville North Carolina. Here now it is awfully quiet. This is bay street behind me, main thoroughfare. You wont see anyone on it because they have a dawn to dusk curfew and they are enforcing it strongly. Obviously theres a lot of debris out here. Theres the traffic like sitting here which we showed you in the last half hour. Precisely why authorities tell you to go inside to seek shelter. You dont want that falling on your head as the winds were swirling around. Across the street is an Outback Steakhouse and part of the roof fell off there. And the other portion that fell off somehow made its way over here to the other side of bay street and is sitting here, youll see a Police Car Driving by right now, they are checking very closely to make sure everyone is off the street. We are getting word that a little further south in this direction which we are going to check out at daylight tomorrow there are some cars submerged. Its a little bit more of a low lying area and there are 500 or so trees that came down. But in this section of savannah, the damage is not quite as bad as one would imagine after hearing everything about this storm leading up to Hurricane Matthew. Joel, it looks remarkably dry back behind you. Is there any flooding left in that area at all . Reporter whats interesting about savannah is its actually it sits on a bluff, lots of blasts in california so its up high, well above sea level. Behind the camera which you obviously cant see. Theres a big, big dip down and that is river street, riverwalk and its a very touristy kind of area. That whole street was flooded out last night but again when you head south in this direction it is more lowlying and thats where were hearing theres a lot of flooding. Keep in mind charleston got hit hard and South Carolina charleston is at sea level so they are dealing with a lot more flooding than here in savannah, georgia. Joel, like you have been too many hurricanes and storms along the eastern seaboard, the big problem is after its all over most of those injuries come during the cleanup, people get hurt just trying to straighten up and pick the trash up in the streets. How are rescuers dealing with that . Talking about that and warning people to be careful . As it comes back in . Reporter absolutely. Thats why they are really enforcing this curfew. They dont want people out. My photographer and i were looking at these beautiful oak trees out here. You just dont know the Structural Integrity of some of these trees after a storm. You dont want one of these guys toppling over on you because its not going to be a good ending. So they want to obviously assess the damage, see whats happening. Theres an island, a Barrier Island called tybee island thats 18 miles to the east. Juts out onto the atlantic. They saw the highest storm surge in their history last night. 12 and a half feet. At one point we actually thought about staying out there. Its a good thing we didnt. Turns out they had major flooding but it wasnt as bad as they thought out there either. It started just off of sir Francis Drake boulevard near redhill community park. Fire retardant on flames from above as you can see in the photo. 45 minutes to get it all under control. After it burned through about three quarters of an acre, no word yet on what caused all of this. 88yearold Santa Clara County woman beaten during a Home Invasion robbery last month has now died. Flow douglas known as miss flo was beaten during a home in big prosecutor say 19yearold zachary cuen broke into her home demanded money and then attacked her. Hes now facing murder, first degree burglary and robbery and elder abuse charges. The Sheriffs Office tweeted out this message, saying miss flo a Community Pillar passed away with heavy hearts, we mourn with the community and will ensure justice is served in this murder. Those who knew miss flo say of course they will miss her. Its so sad that something were to happen to her, being all by herself. And im a mom that lives at home by myself. You got what your surroundings. You know . Well, a memorial as you can see is growing tonight outside of miss flos home where people had once been gathering and praying for her recovery. Prosecutors are not filing charges against a sanford graduate student accused of sexual assault. Santa clara County District Attorneys Office says there is insufficient evidence. The alleged attack happened two weeks ago inside a dorm room. Police had been investigating whether a 22yearold grad student sexually assaulted his 28yearold girlfriend. In san joaquin county, Police Arrested a High School Student for a clown threat there. The 16yearold allegedly posted it all on instagram and included a photo of a bloodstained bed as part of the post. That teen was arrested on thursday on campus. Police book that teen into Juvenile Hall on charges of making a terrorist threat and causing a false emergency. The bay Area Temperatures soaring, the hottest day of the week and that remains right on track. We did some changes developing offshore, satellite right now you can see some scattered high clouds moving into Northern California. Actually some rainfall, keep an eye on this rain band over the next few days with rain chances approaching Northern California and possibly the bay area as well. Coming in closer right now theres the fog bank and reports of fog touching the coastline or at least closer to daly city at last check. The fog bank will gradually fill in a little bit translates to a cooler forecast especially right near the immediate coastline. Current numbers san jose pretty mild 71 degrees. Santa rosa 66. Livermore 65. Walnut creek 63 degrees. Here is our live camera toward the bay bridge, San Francisco fleet week colors are still looking very nice out there, we still have mostly clear skies over a good portion of the bay. That could be changing a little bit with a few patches sneaking underneath the golden gate bridge. Patchy fog out there. Still a layer of warm air setting up but the fog returning and heads up if you are driving highway one. We could have a shallow marine layer that does translate to lower visibility so watch out for that as we head into monday. For San Francisco patchy fog possible, 54 degrees at 7 00. By 12 00 more sunshine for downtown. And those readings back up into the upper 60s and then more sunshine by 4 00. Those readings instead of the 80s today were thinking some 70s for tomorrow. The bigtime cooling near the shoreline right around the bay itself, thats for sunday. Inland tomorrow still back up into the 80s close to 90 degrees. Tracking some changed up to our north that will bring in more pronounced cooling for monday, tuesday, wednesday. In fact by friday, we could be talking about shower chances in Northern California and the bay area. Taking a look at longrange forecast model, wednesday youll see this activity up to our north, and then into thursday more of a defined frontal band, setting up and watch into friday, could have some rain chances back into the bay area especially for the north bay neighborhoods. Finetune that forecast as i like to say as we do approach the friday time period. Take a look at the high for tomorrow afternoon pretty warm out there, upper 80s out toward santa rosa. St. Helena, fairfield and vacaville, 67 degrees. More neighborhoods for you right around the rim of the bay in the 70s close to 80 degrees. Most areas especially in the and , temperatures coming down to five degrees from todays meeting. San jose 84, gilroy 89 and San Francisco forecast high of 74. Some 60s right near the immediate coastline. A look ahead, fiveday forecast and shaving off a few degrees for your sunday and then more cooling by monday and then definitely big drop off in numbers by wednesday. Thicken up the clouds on thursday and clouds could represent a bigger change possibly some rain chances back in the bay area forecast on friday.
