So far, its been read by millions of people and its target is a former stanford swimmer convicted of rape. Reporter key be a, this is the letter right here, about 15 pages and it recounts in detail the horror the victim experienced through every step of her ordeal. 20yearold brock turner a former danford swimmer was convicted of three fell knit counts. When sentenced on thursday in court the victim read out loud a letter describing the impact the assault had on her. She said i was just shocked and horrified that things like this happen but i know that they do and just seeing her raw emotions on the letter it just moved me. Reporter the victim thanked the two graduate students who saw the assault happening behind a trash bin and interrupted it and then held turner down until police arrived. But of the Legal Process that followed, she said reporter the da was pushing for a 14 Year Prison Sentence for turner. But the judge citing turners age and lack of a criminal record decided only six months in the county jail. We disagree with the judges ruling in this case and we believe that brock turner should have been sent to prison, this was a serious pre med kated attack premeditated attack. Reporter on the stanford campus theres outrage at the sentence. And a recognition of why so many other victims of rape choose not to come forward. Ive heard a few ive heard a few stories of other girls who didnt even go forward because they heard theres so many problems in the whole process. And it kind of intimidated them from even really bringing the issue up. I am so amazed by her strength and i just hope that she really encourages other girls to also step forward. Both attacks happened in may at night and on trails. The first happened in midmay on paul creek trail between hardees lane. The victim was held at knife point while three men sexually assaulted him. The other one happened may 24th between hampton way and stony point road. He was also assaultedpy three men. Police say at this point its unclear if theres a connection between the two attacks. Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call the authorities. Alameda county sheriffs deputies arrested the man they say shot and killed a man and tried to kill another. They happened after 2 00 this morning and investigators say the shooter approached a group of men near 150th avenue and east 14th and began talking with them. Then the shooter opened fire and hitting one man in the head. That victim died there at the scene. While authorities were responding they received a call that the shooter was chasing another man down the street. Our officers responded to that area and we found another man down on the ground with a ar shooter, our suspect, standing over the top of him. That second victim was last reported to be in a coma at an area hospital with injuries to his head. Investigators say theyre still trying to figure out why the suspect shot the man in the first place, so far they have not released the names of the shooter or victims. A widespread manhunt came to an end late this afternoon. San jose police were looking for man who neighbors said was driving a stolen car and carrying a gun. Police located the man on dent avenue around 3 30 this afternoon. For several hours residents in that area were asked to stay inside while police combed the neighborhood. Authorities recovered the bodies yesterday raising the death toll to nine. An army truck carrying 12 soldiers on a Training Mission overturned on thursday. People in a trailing vehicle were able to rescue three soldiers but the others were swept away in a flooded creek. An army agency on safety and Occupational Health will investigate the circumstances of this training exercise. A wildfire in Southern California has damaged multiple homes. In the sierra foothills today, almost 200 local and state firefighters gathered in grass valley for some handson training.
