Right now there are no fatalities being reported by officials there on the scene. That train hit a falling tree and derailed at about 735 tonight. It was in narrow niles canyon between fremont and send all. Tracks run alongside Alameda Creek and we get the breaking news tonight from ktvus amber lee where Officials Say for the massive search and rescue effort that has been carried out tonight. Amber . Reporter heather, were along highway 84 as you said between fremont and pleasanton. From here, if you look beyond these trees, you can see the derailed train car. The fremont fire chief tells me this happened shortly before 7 30 when the train ran into a tree that had fallen onto the train tracks. The train had been traveling eastbound carrying 200 plus commuters from Silicon Valley back to the Stockton Sacramento area. Four serious injuries, 10 minor injuries. One car fell into the creek, two trains became unstable and he with me is Sergeant Ray Kelly with the Alameda County Sheriffs Department to tell us about the harrowing rescue effort. We had quite a chaotic scene when we got here. Regular First Responders who were not equipped to respond to a trail deep Train Derailment, they were able to get across the fastmoving creek into the rail car, part of it was submerged. People inside. Screaming for help. Some of them severely injured. A lot of them shaken up, very scared. We were able to get people in their quick. And rescue as many as we could. We had initial 250 or so on the rest of the train that we had to evacuate to safety. It was dark and wet and raining. It was very chaotic. Because of the rains, we have increasing water levels and the water is very swift, moving fast. So we had to work through all of that. [ inaudible question ] so about a dozen people or so oregon to area hospitals. Washington hospital and eden hospital, fremont, even, Castro Valley. Were going to unify the rest of our passengers with family members at the Alameda County fairgrounds. So people can make their way over there. We are going to bus folks over there to reunite with their families and make sure they are okay. [ inaudible question ] this is an absolute miracle that nobody was killed. Either passengers or First Responders. Ive never seen a scene like this. So much devastation. Its absolutely amazing that know what he was killed. Reporter any idea when the train will be pulled up out of the water . This is going to take several days. And heavy equipment and a lot of work. Obviously we have to have federal investigators come in and look at the rail and what happened. So its going to be several days. Luckily it wont impact the traffic on the roadways since it off to the sides. Reporter thank you very much, sergeant kelly. Very fortunate that no one was killed. Some say its a miracle that no one was killed. 10 minor injuries, 14 serious, taken to Washington Hospital and fremont and some were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Again, we got a sense of how bad it was and as you heard the sheriff telling us, incredible that no one was injured, four serious injuries, 10 minor. We want to let you know there will be no Ace Train Service at least for tomorrow but again as you heard him talking, he said several days before they get that train car, potentially alan out of Alameda Creek. They have to fix the tracks as well and then theres the investigation so its quite possible that Ace Train Service could be delayed for more than just tomorrow as well. You also heard him mention those who are not transported to the hospital, those who were shaken up but otherwise okay are being bust right now to the Alameda County fairgrounds in pleasanton. So if you have loved ones that were on board this commuter train, you are encouraged to go to the Alameda County fairgrounds and be reunited with those passengers. As we mentioned earlier, the number 10 ace train goes from san jose to stockton. That route takes the train north to pleasanton and livermore then works its way east to stockton with other stops along the way. Ace stands for altamont corridor express. Service began back in 1998. Ace runs four trains in each direction on a daily basis. The service carries more than 1 million passengers each year. Lets talk about our weather now. Stormy weather over the past few days caused all kinds of problems. In san mateo, these drivers tried to navigate flooded Pescadero Creek road. It filled a low spot in the road. Some cars did in fact get stuck. The Fire Department pulled people out. The road was barricaded but some folks decided they werent going to stop for those barricades and drove around them. Drivers also dealt with looks slick conditions on the roads all across the bay area. Heres what it looked like earlier tonight. Most of the region just saw spotty showers on and off. The powerful storm caused flooding and quite a mess in santa cruz county. Broken tree limbs and other debris washed up on beaches over the weekend. Storm runoff created problems with debris clogging streams and rivers in the santa cruz mountains. The same storm systems have delivered a lot of snow in the sierra, two feet fell over the weekend. That of course is great news for the snowpack and the drought, 100 caltrans workers have been very busy there clearing the roads and there is more snow in the forecast the rest of the week. They plan to use excavators to them was the building on thursday. It will take 4 to 5 days. Officials say once the building is torn down, they need to shore up the cliff and protect utilities that run under the street. This is only the beginning of the work they need to do to protect the neighborhoods along the coast. A sixyearold boy seriously injured in a hit and run in Castro Valley is now out of surgery and resting. Ktvus rob roth tells us police say the car involved was one of five that was stolen write off the dealers lot earlier today. Reporter the california Highway Patrol is looking for this man, 29yearold Daniel Morris of Castro Valley. They believe he was the driver who struck and severely injured a sixyearold boy walking on the sidewalk on his way to school this morning. Authorities say the car was stolen off the lot of Livermore Ford. This is Surveillance Video from the Livermore Ford dealership. At the top of the screen you can see someone running, that person is running towards a ford fusion and drives it off the lot. This is where the ford ended up at 8 00 this morning on meadowview drive. The sixyearold boy was walking to school with his grandmother when the car struck him. Information suggests he stopped on his way to been down and look at worms so he was bending down. At the same time apparently this car lost control. The car pinned the boys leg, injuries are severe and was in surgery at childrens hospital. Neighbors ran outside. Crying very loudly. Im not a doctor but i would say he was in shock, plus a lot of pain. His leg was greatly damaged. After the collision the driver ran away down the street. Neighbors say he never looked back. I heard a big bang. Then i ran to the window. And i saw the guy running down the hill. Jump out of the car and run down the hill. So he looks back to see the boy he didnt look back. He just ran. Reporter the little boy was also walking with his eight yearold big brother. That brother suffered minor injuries. In livermore, rob roth, ktvu fox 2 news. Investigation is under way in san jose tonight following a Deadly Police shooting. Authorities say Police Responded to a report of a person being stabbed at about 6 15 this evening at third and martha street. Police arent saying much about what occurred after officers arrived on the scene but neighbors say they heard multiple shots fired. We heard five or six shots. Thats all we know. Very shocking. Ive never seen anything like this before here. Police say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the officers was injured. San jose police say more information will be available once preliminary investigation is complete. After more than three minutes, dispatchers give up. No one can talk to each other. One of the most dangerous situations you can deal with. You have inability to call for help in the field and inability to relay information to the field. We have a huge problem there. This shouldnt be happening. Copy radio, we cannot copy. Reporter the dispatchers instruct officers to meet with their sergeant either at Police Headquarters or two eastmont substation in east oakland. Dispatch tells the sergeants to call them once they know their officers are safe. All sergeants, please 91 480. Reporter is the latest problem for the trouble radio system. Officers are tired of breakdowns that jeopardize their safety. In 2012, the radios went down during a visit by president obama. David cruz, the point person for Oakland Police radios until he left last year says the department is transitioning to a new east bay Regional Radio system but its been two years since the city First Authorized that change. For the residents, the First Responders, the city needs to treat this like an emergency and get onto the east bay Regional Network as quickly as possible. Reporter police declined to go on camera. Ktvu has obtained an internal memo from chief sean went telling officers the system failed because of a malfunction of the control channel. When that happens, the whole network goes down. No channels worked. The department is trying to speed up the transition to the new system. He wrote, i share your frustration and am in regular contact with City Technology staff and the city administrator trying to expedite this process. As more information becomes available, we will update you. Regular updates are important. Without constant communication, officers are in the dark. Can anyone copy radio . Reporter oakland issued a statement saying they are working hard to fix the new system while making sure the new system comes online as soon as possible. A short time ago, a ktvu photographer was escorted down to Alameda Creek where you can see the overturned train is in the water. Were told that creek is rain swollen and the water really gushing there. Now, we were told that everyone on board has now been accounted for. There were 14 people that were injured. Four of whom were seriously hurt. As we had been reporting, Emergency Personnel have been able to remove all of the passengers from that derailed train. Altogether, there were 200 passengers on board the train. Live pictures from the Alameda County fairgrounds, in pleasanton, heres whats happening, those are relatives, family members, friends of the people on board, they are waiting now for all of the passengers to be bused from the accident scene to the county fairgrounds. Officers served the warrants on friday at three locations in santa cruz. They say they seized 5000 tablets of the drug mdma which is also called ecstasy. The street value is estimated at 100,000. Three women and three men were arrested were told all of them are members of either a Campus Fraternity or sorority. Police say they learned about the drug shipments in the last few weeks and that they had help from the u. S. Postal service and Homeland Security in tracking down the suspects. For the first time we know of, hackers have targeted apples Mac Computers with ran somewhere. Started last week and some users were hit by a virus that demanded a ransom to unlock the computer. The virus encrypted the files making the computer useless. The owners were told they had to pay a 400 ransom for a code to unlock it. The virus entered through a filesharing app called transmission. They came out with an update. So if someone were to go to their website now and download the program, it wouldnt have this particular flaw. If you look just behind me beyond the trees is wear that train car that the rate the derailed train car sits in the creek. Just a short while ago, the Alameda County Fire Department brought photographers in to get a closeup look at the derailed train car. Source is telling me that case, the company that runs the train, Union Pacific owns the company that owns the train tracks and ntsb and a Crane Operating company are all here on the scene discussing ways to remove the train car. The options include bringing in a crane to pull it out but its not clear at this point was been decided. We are assuming water caused the collapse. Reporter the Business Owner has been complaining to the landlord about leaky roof. Really scary because the landlord is supposed to make sure the roof is safe. Witkin we been complaining for a long time. A representative said the roof was actually replaced last summer. He cant understand how this happened. Reporter for now, none of the businesses that share this building on brentwood avenue will be allowed back in. Authorities say the building will need both chemical cleanup and structural repairs. Im hoping to get back in there soon because we have back in business. Not this week.
