Police say the impact to the passengers side was enough to tear the door off and that is when the toddler flew out. There was a child seat in the car, but it appears he was not strapped into it or strapped securely enough. I have seen a child when i walked up to the car to get her information in the backseat. Reporter this driver was hit just minutes before by the same woman who had pulled onto power avenue and sideswiped her. A minor accident, but she sped away and following behind that first victim, saw what unfolded. When i got down here, i had seen the baby ejected out of the car on the ground. Her arm was hanging by a thread. It was very sad. When the car finally stopped, she was just screaming like oh my god. And it looked like her arm was like detached from her body. Reporter the mother is 30 years old, from pittsburgh and told police she does not have a drivers license. She has had surgery and is in critical but stable condition. You lost your childs life over stupidity. Reporter in a neighborhood full of children, people dont mince words. They never got an opportunity to really live. Reporter school got out early so there were many children around. You are not only jeopardizing yourself and your child, but every child around you. Reporter some residents say they have seen the woman driving wrecklessly in the area before. But this time, it ended her little boys life. This unnecessary disaster that could have been avoided by just pulling over and giving your information. Reporter Pittsburgh Police expressed that same sentiment. This tragedy was so avoidable. Now, the driver will face multiple charging including hit and run, wreckless driving, child endangerment, potentially even vehicular manslaughter. The crash happened at buchanan and bay in the Marina District as the boys were walking to school. Police arrested 30yearold kirstin andarek. The boys suffered broken bones. Neighbored have complained about speeding cars in the area. The mta says it is going to put up a stop sign at the intersection and make other safety improvements. There are major new developments tonight in the uc merced stabbing spree. The county sheriff is now saying the motive for that attack was a personal vendetta. 18yearold Faisal Mohammad was angry at another student who had kicked him out of a study group. The coroner found a twopage manifesto on his body. It was essentially an outline for what he planned to do that day. Authorities say he first entered a classroom where he stabbed a student. He then stabbed a construction worker who tried to intervene. Then he stabbed another student and a student adviser before he was finally shot and killed by campus police. There is still nothing to indicate anything and i mean anything that this is other than a teenage boy that got upset with fellow classmates. And took it to the extreme. Authorities credit that construction worker with fighting back and preventing him from hurting even more people. The sheriff said that is what caused his plans to go haywire. We have learned that Faisal Mohammad is from santa clara. He graduated from wilcox this past june. Azenith smith spoke with students there who said he was quiet and smart. Students we spoke to said he was good in school. He took all ap classes and from what i have seen from him because i passed by him in the hallways sometimes, he was really quiet. Just really a shocking tragedy for our community to learn this today. Reporter a spokesperson said he had a tight knit circle of friends. The district was not aware of past problems with him. He was a good kid. Quiet. Not very different than many teenagers. I knew the family. How is the family . Very nice quiet family. Reporter all of them left wondering why a teenager with a Bright Future would go on a stabbing rampage. A School District spokesperson said he had an older sister who also went to wilcox high school. Joseph scott, Jessica Scott and Michael Castaneda are facing two counts. One for conspiracy to defraud the government and the other, conspiracy to distribute cocaine. From 2013 to 2014, they allowed drugs to pass through their security area on several occasions. Their jobs are described as agents who operate the xray machines that inspect carry on bags. The indictments say the federal sting was designed to catch the three. They had what appear today be cocaine in their carry on luggage. Court documents state one of the defendants would set up a time and place to meet the smugglers at sfo. When it was time to go through security, they would be through the the line where the others were working the xray machines. That way the bag would make it through security without questions though they would know there were drugs in the bags. Reporter budget cuts recently forced the closure of the departments marine patrol in the delta. Now a chopper is used to help find disabled boaters and water hazards. And there in lies the irony. How can the department cut the marine patrol yet still fund a new helicopter . We were able to obtain the new 407 with the use of one time money and also a commitment from the county for some funds required to purchase the new aircraft. Reporter the department is also selling its oldest helicopter and will use those funds to operate the new one. But it still needs money for another pilot. We are actively seeking Funding Sources today to try to expand this program. Reporter throw in fuel and maintenance and you are looking at 200,000 a year to keep it available seven days a week.
