Reporter heather, the artest has reported the theft here to richmond police. So far, none of the stolen artwork has turned up these are just empty wooden pedestals. Reporter alexis silk says 20 pieces of glass work she created are gone. Silk is holding the only glass sculpture she still has after years worth of labor was stolen from her. There was a lot of time, and sweat, and energy in all of the artwork. Reporter by thursday morning, the trailer was gone. The stolen artwork included these life sized pieces. My soul and my heart to my livelihood. Reporter the trailer was parked across the street from a friend as house, when it was hauled away by thieves. Silk says her tools were also stolen, she had planned to transport everything to this weekend sausalito art show, where she hoped to sell some pieces. It was pretty shocking, and a very traumatic, both emotional and financial hit. Reporter she doesnt think the thieves targeted her. Police recovered the empty trailer thursday, a few hours after it was reported stolen. This is just all bubble wrap again. Reporter it was found behind a business on mcdoneal avenue, just a few blocks from where it was stolen. Tomorrow, she returns to the studio to start to create new pieces, but says they cannot replace the ones that were stolen. Incredibly sad, because these pieces have so much value to me. But i know that they will have absolutely no value to the people that stole them. Reporter soul estimates her total loss to be about 150,000. She is offering a 1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of her artwork. So disappointing, amber, when you talk about her artwork and her tools. You and i were talking, and you said it takes a really long time for her to create each one of these pieces. Reporter they said its very labor intensive. In fact, how long it takes depends on each piece and sometimes it takes up to six assistants to create a piece. Each one very unique and special. The Highway Patrol says a tire blowout caused a Chain Reaction crash on interstate 880 in oakland this evening, that ended up sending seven people to the hospital. Three vehicles were involved. The crash happened just before 6 30 near the jackson street onramp to northbound 880, not far from the 980 interchange. Authorities say one car traveling on 880 had a blowout. It then swerved and hit a van, and both of those vehicles then went over the side of the freeway, pauling about four feet down. In all, 11 people were traveling in those three vehicles. Seven were injured, and taken to hospitals. One person suffered moderate injuries. The rest were taken to the hospital as a precaution. And a developing story right now. Another accident on 23rd street in oakland thats causing a major backup tonight for southbound traffic on 880. Three of four lanes were closed after the crash on the 23rd street overpass sent debris falling and left the guardrail hanging above the freeway. Emergency repair work is now underway. But you can see the backup there. Heres how it looks on our traffic map. You can see that red line through oakland, the backup goes for about three miles. A man was struck and killed by a truck in alameda today. He was hit as he was walking in the crosswalk. The accident happened about noon at the intersection of Marina Village parkway and constitution way. Police said the truck had just come out of the webster tube when it hit a 65yearold man who was trying to cross the street. The victim was on his way back home from the grocery store. Police said the driver stopped immediately, and is cooperating with the investigation. New at 10 00, a search underway for a man who disappeared from angel island. His name is howder van lyra. He is described as 6 feet tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Marin search and rescue, tiburon police, and the u. S. Coast guard have all been actively searching for him. Temperatures around the bay area are expected to reach the triple digits in some inland areas this weekend. Anderson reservoir and morgan hill is likely to be one of those spots. Park rangers monitored that area, and say theyll be on the lookout for people suffering from dehydration, and other heat related illnesses. At noon, it turns like 100 degrees, and theyre out there, and still not back. Hot spots dont have phone reception, they might not be able to call for help. Anyone out for a hike in the coming days is advised to carry a lot of water for yourself. Those soaring temperatures have prompted air quality officials to issue a spare the air alert for tomorrow. The speech turned political as well, when the president hammered at republicans for failing to help the middle class. This is the party that says it wants to rebrand themselves. For nonunion workers, many jobs available, but for often disappointing pay. We also see a new resurgence in people just getting tired of being paid low wages and lack of benefits. So were, our organizing is picking up to a level that i havent seen for 40 years. Reporter employment lawyer, Michael Burnick says its still better than labor day four years ago, when more than 1 million jobs had been lost. Our Unemployment Rate is down to 6. 2 . Weve gained over 1. 8 million jobs this past month we gained 80,000 jobs. So its a very different labor day. Reporter but many of the new jobs are for part timers, freelancers, and independent contractors without benefits. Its getting much, much, much tougher to get that traditional full time job with benefits. In a word, labor day 2015 is uncertain. For workers, theyre not popping the champagne. Lifeguards are warning people not to go to deep into the water. This man did not have a wet suit or fin, so the lifeguard advised him to head toward shore. We do a nice safety contact. We either use the horn in the truck, or whistle them in. Reporter the reason for the caution, sneaker waves and rip currents. Ocean beach is notorious for them. They can knock a person down, and drag them down in a heartbeat. Not even a river. Its the pacific ocean. That can do anything. Reporter so far this year, there have been no drownings at ocean beach, but last september, a father and son from the Central Valley drowned after a rip current overtook them and dragged them under. Lifeguards say they encountered many people who just dont realize how dangerous a day at the beach can be. They sweep them off their feet, sweep them out into deep water, where they panic. Our water temperature is a lot colder than southern california. That creates panic. Reporter many have gotten the message. This family these small children came to ocean beach knowing the dangers, but still having fun. They know they cant get in there past their knees. It happened around 8 30 on beach street just outside the Coconut Grove ballroom. Were told the victims were talking and conscious when they were taken away by ambulance. No word on arrests so far. Police in San Francisco are searching for the person or persons who wrote racist graffiti. The antichinese message was spray painted in at least five locations. Latinos, pacific islanders, vietnamese, and chinese are just some of the ethnic groups that are in pertola neighborhood. So people were shocked when someone spray painted no more chinese in the neighborhood. Its just shocking that in this cay and age, Something Like this is still a problem. Reporter this fence has already been painted over. Someone posted the initial racist graffiti on social media. I was upset that some people, or someone can think that about any ethnicity, and disappointed. Reporter down the street, more graffiti. A lot of chinese buying house over here, but they work hard. Rather than welcoming, this change, i think some people just feel threatened by, and they dont like to see the status quo be upset. Reporter it seems San Francisco has seen a spike in hateful graffiti lately. Back in june, vandals defaced this mural three times within a month of it being unveiled. Last month, a latino mural was tagged with the words white power, and on august 28, vandals broke into a church, breaking pews, and scrawling racist words in the pastors office. Someone crossed out the word no, and put a heart. I was ecstatic. He put the heart on and took off. I was like wow, someone in this neighborhood cares enough to say, you know what, its not no more chinese. Its love more chinese. Its love more people. The message should be love. Reporter San Francisco police have canvassed the neighborhood and are looking for more graffiti, and surveillance. Neighbors tell us this graffiti popped up sometime between saturday night and sunday morning. Ktvu fox 2 news. Traffic is back to normal tonight on interstate 880 in the east bay, after a Traffic Accident shut down a key connector ramp for more than 12 hours today. It started early this morning, when an suv hit a power pole, and knocked live wires onto the connector ramp between interstate 880. When the power lines came down. Sparks touched off a small brush fire along the shoulder of the road. The Highway Patrol had to close the ramp to pge and could safely make the repairs. It caused a major traffic backup along 880. Ran out of gas. Its a little crazy out here. Never a good time. Especially a weekend like this. Reporter the ramp reopened about 4 00 this afternoon. There were two adults and two children inside the suv that crashed. No one was seriously hurt. Hundreds of Police Officers prosecute across the country paid tribute today to an officer from illinois who was killed in the line of duty. Easy my friend. Weve got it from here.
