Our diverse city coming together tonight to mourn, the slate is wiped clean. As it has been its going to be difficult and especially next thursday. It makes a difference for us able to walk the streets in our community. They do a job most of us will never ever do and because of them were safe. We got insight on to why the shooter may have occurred because we spoke to members of johnsons family. Reporter grief comes in many forms. An apology from the niece of the man who shot and killed officer johnson. As a family, we feel were caught in the middle. Were mourning for the officer but were morning for our uncle. Reporter two lives that crossed paths. And a fight with his wife brought officers to johnsons home. My aunt does consider johnson her hero. We consider him our hero. I cant forget how nice of a person he was to everyone. Reporter people who live in the neighborhood and officers who work beside him carry on with grace. Its so raw for all of us. Reporter united by law. Its incredible. I mean its very sincere these people are here because they care. Reporter a Community Grateful for those who serve. They said he did receive treatment for his Mental Illness but in their opinion, the incident was suicide by cop. Frank. Katie what was the reaction of people there of dunhams family showed up. They spoke to reporters after the vigil wrapped up they wanted to pay their respects but did not want to take away from the vigil. The service will be held at 11 00 a. M. Next thursday at the sap center in san jose. A lot of people are expected to attend including Police Officers from all across the country. Later in this newscast, San Jose Police say the Computer System in their patrol cars crashed on the night of the shooting. The ongoing problem and how the Department Plans to fix it. Jurors in San Francisco reached a verdict late today in the closely watched aaron powell sex discrimination lawsuit. The jury ruled in favor of perkins on all counts. Ktvus Jana Katsuyama is live tonight in the city where she spoke with two jurors who reached different conclusions in the case. Jana. Reporter this was a case julie, that lasted more than a month. Ellen powell in the courtroom appeared very calm after she heard the verdict from this jury that had six men and six women evenly divided. Some of them said today it was a very intense and emotional process. Ellen powell left the state courthouse in San Francisco having lost her 16 million gender discrimination case but still claiming victory for raising attention working women of silican valley. For people across the world who have reached out to express support, and telling me that my story is theirs too. Reporter as chief of staff for the firms well known partner john doer had been her mentor but also testified that she cautioned powell about her difficulty working with others. They called the firm a boys club. Powell claims she outperformed male comments, was asked to take notes like a secretary and treated unfairly after an affair with a married male colleague. Then the battle was worth it. Reporter attorneys for perkins say performance reviews, showed powell had conflicts and they pointed to other female employees who succeeded and did not have complaints. It never occurred to me for a second that a careful and attentive jury like this would find either discrimination or retaliation. Reporter the jury voted 93 against powells retaliation charge after one juror switched his vote at the last minute forcing the jury to reconvene for another hour. The jury voted 102 against powells gender discrimination claim. The performance evaluations throughout the years were a key piece. Reporter ramsey voted yes with powell. It seems that the those with male gender with the same flaws that perkins did were able to sad vance powell did were able to advance. The family of audrey pot is going to get hundreds of thousands of dollars as a result of their wrongful death lawsuit. Pot was a student at seratoga high she committed suicide after being sexually assaulted. Photos of her were then circulated on social media. The family of one of three boys involved in the attack will pay 600,000 and the owner of the home where the assault happened will pay 100,000. A protest is held tonight against the Downtown Berkeley association and its hospitality ambassadors who patrol the street. About 1,000 people marched to the police department. Tonights demonstration stems from this you tube video. It shows one of the ambassadors punching a homeless man last sunday. The homeless and their advocates say that attack is a culmination of something much greater. A lot of things have been going on in the city that are anti homeless. And people dont have a place to stay. So they stay downtown so they can get services and they stay downtown so they can get a little extra cash. A booming bay area economy is issuing a fast increase in the region. Santa clara, contra costa, San Francisco and san mateo counties also saw some of the fastest population growth since 2010. Their Census Bureau reports that Alameda County has added 100,000 residents since june of 2010. Santa clara also added about 100,000. More people of course means more jobs, more traffic and a tighter Housing Market and that can be seen in the skyrocketing rents across the bay area. Governor jerry brown put his signature on a Million Dollars emergency drought package today. He tweeted a picture showing him signing the bill and said it is a piece of a much greater effort to help those affected by the extreme drought. The package was passed quickly by the state assembly and the senate this week. The package fast track spending on Water Infrastructure package designed to deal with the drought and floods when it rains too much. Huskins turned up unharmed near her home in huntington. A teacher accused of molesting his students was sentenced today to 12 years in prison. Cristina rendon heard from the mother of two of those students and martins wife about what the sentence means for her kids. Reporter elementary teacher Joseph Martin learned his fate. Four years in prison for molesting students. At the same time hes got two little girls, and set for release when theyre in high school. He would be a friend not a dad to them and thats heartbreaking. This afternoon, the San Jose Police department acknowledged it crashed because they could not handle the number of officers working that night. They admit the department has outgrown the technology. Its an issue going on for at least a year. Our officers are incredibly frustrated with the computers not working in their cars because its a critical piece of our safety equipment. We dont get information to officers as quickly as we would like to because its a safety issue. Quite frankly its a safety issue. The just approved city budget method for this year allocates funding for the Police Chiefs needs. This being one of them. The funding we identified would be enough to retrofit, with the mobile computer devices. And the Budget Office and our office is then communicating. Reporter and the Department Hopes to replace all the computers by the end of the year. Until then, if and when the system crashes theyll have to rely on the radio dispatch. Just the story that i went on campus with a horse and asked a girl would you go to prom with me. I was honestly i would have done it for any girl that would have went with me. Reporter the good news is even though the suspension remains he will be able to go to prom. Miguel whos never been in trouble before says he would probably do it again but ask for permission first.
