This is the scene looking out towards the foothills of the east of the san josi and look at that hail accumulating on the hills. As far as the strongest storm of the day, well take the radar back to 6 00 and were tracking this cell during the 6 00 news and around brisbane and south San Francisco. This triggered a Severe Thunderstorm Warning warning from the National Weather service, producing hail and numerous lightning strikes that eventually moved out to the pacific and that warning expired at about 7 00 this evening a. Look at all of the activity really favoring first the northern parts of north bay this morning into the afternoon hours and things started to pop up in the south bay towards san josi, out towards parts of San Francisco as well as we saw the thunderstorms for that part of the bay area. Right now as you can see, not a lot of action out there. The live doppler sweeps, partly cloudy skies and lingering snow showers in the sierra. So tomorrow, much different than today. Snow fell across much of the northern sierra, road crews worked to keep highway 80 open and some ski resorts report as much as 18 of snow. A check at the caltrans website show drivers need to have chains with them tonight on highway 80 while on highway 50 chains are required on all vehicles except fourwheel drive vehicles with snow tires from 5 miles east of meyers. The breaks in the weather brought out the hikers, but some of them got into trouble on some coastal bluffs. San francisco fire crews to rescue a man and his dog. The owner was trying to save miz pet when the cliff crumbled underneath him. She went over, i came to stand at the edge, and the ground just underneath me and i fell right behind. Once they were safe, the owner and the dog reunite with the kiss as you see there. Neither of them were hurt. Crews performed two other rescues in the north day at. Bonita and the headlands a. Pair of hikers climbed and cun couldnt get back up. The hoist was used a marin county and fire assisted in the rescue. At point reyes a 24year old man from gilroy suffered major injuries after falling off a cliff. There the chp said he fell 60 80 feet on to the rock below and ricocheted into the surf. Two Good Samaritans tried to help unwith w trapped by the surfment a chp helicopter ended up save all three. Officials advise people to be careful on any cliff edge and instead of trying to rescue a pet or person who falls be sure to call 911. A young mother in yolo county is behind bars on suspicion of murder. She was arrested after her newborn was found dead earlier this week. As Christian Samos reports even hardened authorities are call this case a tough one are, yolo county investigators who have spent the past several days trying to make sense of the tragic and mysterious death of 20dayold justice reis arrested the infants mother in the Early Morning hours. We have come to the conclusion that miss samantha green was the sole individual responsible for the death of her child. Reporter 23yearold sam than green and her baby were initially reported missing on monday. Following day she was found frantic and confused near a slew in knights land without her child. On wednesdays morning the babys lifeless body was discovered along the banks of that same slew. Early reports indicate that the baby drowned of hyperthermia or drowning. It has been an emotional investigation for yolo investigators. Samantha green told they she was abducted and assaulted before the arrest. Detectives have done their Due Diligence and we haven this for 24 7 since we discovered mrs. Green was missing. Its an extraordinarily tragic story, we know that and it affects all of us, officers included. Reporter while there are still many questions left unanswered the sheriff says she is proud of the work his investigators have done in a case involving the youngest of victims. Now as Christian Samos is reporting the sheriff says the District Attorney will decide what exact homicide charges samantha green will face. In the north bay a suspected drunk driver led two deputies on a highspeed chase that ended in a crash and that driver died at the scene. Today the San Jose Earthquakes played their first ever game in their brandnew home. The 18,000seat stadium opened across the street from san josi airport. About 10,000 people headed to todays game to get their first feel of what the stadium is like. The stadium features an open concourse, wifi, groundlevel seating and what is called the largest outdoor bar in america. All the different areas of the stadium are designed to have a fun experience. Hundreds of black americans demanding civil rights would leave selma to walk to the montgomery but at bridge blocks from the start, Police Attacks with billy clubs, whip and pepperspray, but its what happened two years earlier that touched off revolutions. Here is the americans americans. Reporter in 1965 peaceful marchers demanding their right to vote are attacked by police in selma, alabama, this year marks the 50year anniversary of what is known as bloody sunday. There is a hollywood movie playing and the media will surely swarm to selma like ants on a pile. We instead go north to birmingham, alabama, where two years earlier a desperate Martin Luther king whose most has stalled sends thousand of black teenagers and young adults into the streets to protest segregation. Authorities responded with fire hoses and attack dogs. This image runs on nearly every front page in the country the its considered one of the most iconic photographs of the era. The police were running at us with the dogs, and i was always taught you are never supposed to run from a dog. So we ran across and pushed and the water hoses were so powerful, it would knock you down. A lot of people got knocked down, pinned up against a wall. And i lost my hearing in my right ear on account of the water pressure the pressure of the water hose. It was just that powerful. Of all the ones that they arrested they didnt have enough room for thimand they had him at a fence outside the city jail and they had to be fingerprinted before they would be bond out and that was my job. My brother were younger and they had a large wall and people would buy balloney sandwich and chips and cookies and throw them over the fence to them, the children. I have no reason to apologize, because in my eyes i had done nothing wrong while i was working. I was just doing a job. [ music ] sometime in the fire a week later the city of birmingham agrees to segregate and four months after a bomb planted in a church by the ku klux klan kills four schoolgirls. Sometimes in the water [ music ] [ applause ] this marks the turning point in america, the Civil Rights Act is soon enacted making segregation illegal. No birmingham, no photo, no march on washington, and no selma. I wanted to find the men in the photograph, ask them how far the country has come . The teens name is walter gadsden, i couldnt locate him. He seemed to have evaporred into the history. The cop has been identified to for years as Dick Middleton and he told his story that the photo didnt bother him. Middletons old colleague remembers him, too. Yes, i have seen it, and that is officer middleton. And i dont know the dog is on the leash, but i got no answer, because i wasnt there. This is the thunderstorm cloud in the south bay, taken from sunnyvale this afternoon. What is happening, when you look at clouds, you have that updraft pushing air up. As you can see that is why its called an updraft. Workers comp the cloud we have basically circulating motion come up for you, and with that, the circulating motion we do have in fact, were going to put this into motion for you now. Here is what is happening. We have that ice growing and that updraft keeps the hail suspended. Once they grow large enough they ran through the updraft and it falls to the ground as hail that. Was the case for today. We also had some rainfall scattered across the bay area, but locallyheavy at times. Pacifickia. 36 and petaluma nearly 25 and look at at rainfall today across the bay area with at least the heavy downpours and lightning strikes out there. You can see on live stormtracker radar the circulation now basically heading towards southern california. It will be an active weather day tonight and into tomorrow across southern california. As you can see on live stormtracker 2, a closer look with a slight chance of a lingering shower but for the most part were expecting mostly cloudy skies as that main energy does move to the south of region out towards the sierra, you can see all the snow showers from earlier today, the heavy snowfall, the Winter Weather advisory has expired out in the sierra. So things will be calming down down point in and expecting great conditions tomorrow. 12. As far as overnight lows were talking about 30s and 40s san josi 45 degrees, San Francisco 48. Very unsettled for today, that area of low pressure diving to the south. With that decreasing shoulders and overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s and then for tomorrow, that system moves out. So with that partly sunny skies. There is another very weak system on monday; that could generate a few popup showerses. Its only a chance now, but nothing like what we experienced today, that main Energy Moving outside of the bay area. That will be in the monday forecast.
