Any officer thats assigned to the Mission District now is here now sealing off the area. Theyve called in additional officers from other districts in the city to come in to handle other calls while we handle the task at hand. A man accused of a deadly Home Invasion in hercules could face the Death Penalty or life in prison if convicted. 37yearold Mark Anthony Carr was charged with special circumstances today for burglary, murder and attempted rape in connection with wednesdays attack. Carr broke into a home on butter cup court and attacked the homeowner and homeowners girl friend. Sandoval suffered head trauma and died. Sandovals girlfriend was found with plastic over her face and was the victim of attempted rape. She remains in the hospital in serious condition. The latest incident of vandalism in a popular city park that has turned a childrens sand box into a playground hazard. Easier access to Birth Control. The change at your pharmacy that researchers say would have a big impact on unintented pregnancies. New at 10 00, a Bay Area Research paper published today says selling Birth Control over the counter would cut down on the rate of unintended pregnancies. They found the rate of unintended pregnancies to drop more than 25 if the pill was easily available and affordable. Most women can get Birth Control through their insurance plans but a doctors prescription is still required. Removing that prescription barrier could help improve access but at the same time if the pill were to go over the counter and be available at a high cost, or not covered by insurance, then were not really going to see this hoped for effect on reducing unintended pregnancy. Republicans and democrats are split on the idea of over thecounter Birth Control pills. Police are looking into another act of vandalism at dolores park. This time someone broke a glass bottle in the playground and now its full of broken glass. Workers have to remove tons of sand before it can be played on. Theyre getting rain in the auburn hill, its snowing pretty hard up here on the west slope of the sierra nevada. Thats good news. They could see along the ridge lines here they could see a foot. Maybe 14, 15inches of snow. Snow levels are coming down too. Snow levels in the next 24 hours will probably get down 4,500 feet. Thats why theres a sierra Winter Weather advisory thats in effect until 4 00 tomorrow. Snow levels down to about 4,500 feet. Traveling up there is not going to be that easy but as frank and julie pointed out. We need the snow and it will help out the ski resorts. This system just getting here now. The opportunity for more snow tomorrow. They can see on and off snow and we could see more showers. New information now about the suspicious death of an 84 yearold woman found in her Sonoma County farmhouse. Investigators said today the home in pen grove was in complete disar disarray. Because of that the county sheriff is investigating it as a homicide. She had lived there for decades with her brother. He wasnt home at the time and has been cleared of any suspicion. Police say someone in a pickup truck backed into the store several times. Damage to the store is estimated at 500,000. This surveillance pictures show the suspects pickup truck. Police say its silver and that it has major damage to the rear end. Were learning more tonight about a Deadly Police shooting in San Francisco. It happened about 9 45 last night in the mission. Two plain clothed Police Officers responded to reports of a Man Threatening a bike rider with a kitchen knife. The man with the knife was trying to steal the bike. The plain clothed officers told the suspect to drop his weapon but that he refused. In interviewing the victim, the victim told captain brae that he was coming after me with a knife this big. That is the knife was not that big. However it is large. And he thanked the captain saying you saved many my life. Reporter investigators say the officers fired six times. The coroner hasn t released the name of the man yet who was killed. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is heading to San Francisco. He will be the key speaker at a luncheon tomorrow. There is no threat, and the all clear has been given out here in the mission. They are taking the police tape down off the streets. Reopening them, people are being allowed to go into their homes if theyve been kept out. Those who were inside on a shelter in place order are being allowed to come out. Take a look now at video from about 10 00, the sfpd bomb squad rolled the robot down the sidewalk on 23rd street alongside horrisman middle school. The robot stopped a while to analyze an object or objects that had been reported as pipe bombs. That inspection revealed whatever the object was it was not an explosive device and it was not a danger to anyone. An abundance of caution by hfpd and the bomb squad. Every available officer from mission station was on this. And they sealed off a two blocks in all directions from the objects that were suspected to be explosives but again they were found to be harmful. How nervous were people in that area. This is a very busy neighborhood. People were out in the evening. People were taking it in stride but they also knew they were being kept far away. Outside of radious perimeter. But the worry was for their pets. The word of the hour, those suspicious devices were not explosive. Debora villalon thank you. Teenage partyers vandalized a kindergarten classroom. The teens broke into the school the night before valentines day. Photos showed broken windows, overturned furniture and destroyed student class work and a bottle of alcohol. An alarm alerted a district employee who went to the school and reported seeing about 100 kids run off. Teachers say they are concerned. Theres genuine worry and concern about their exposure. And the lack of security and the fact this has been an ongoing issue for a number of years. On monday, Edison Elementary School which is acrossed town was locked down for 10 minutes after a man walked off campus. He was apparently trying to steal purses. No one was hurt in either incident.
