There could be more than 200 derailments of oil and ethanol carrying trains over the next two decades. A massive Train Derailment last monday in West Virginia forced more than 100 people from their homes. The department of transportation study estimates 207 derailments could cost 4. 5 billion in damages. Further more the analysis noted that if an accident happened in a high population it could kill more than 200 people. In november, ktvu reported on concerns about back and crude shipments. The Deputy Director said the state should have more realtime information on when and where those back and crude trains are traveling. We should be able to know that about volatile substances like crude coming across our rail lines.
