Fire has been jumping from trees to structures. At least 1,500 people have been evacuated. So far the fire has burned 350 acres and is just 15 contained. Right now at least 11 wildfires are burning across the state keeping fire crews busy and homeowners on edge. Reporter less than two hours ago, more than 100 residents attended a briefing at sierra middle school. Sheriffs officials let residents where there are mandatory evacuations and where road closures are. Tonight calfire tells me the fire has doubled in size since this morning. It has now burned 8,600 acres and its threatening 500 homes. The sky covered in a giant cloud of smoke. This is our property, the front porch. The home was billowing in ashes. I said thats it. Lets gut out of here. Reporter samuels voluntarily evacuated his family including three dogs, a rabbit and a bird. The samuels were among several families watching the fire from a Grocery Store parking lot. Theres a lot of anxiety just like anyone would have when youre afraid of losing your home. Reporter the fire is becoming difficult to fight with the rough terrain and uncooperation of mother nature. Theres only 5 containment. Around noon about a dozen firefighters had to deploy their fire shelters. The wind direction they had a wall of fire. They were able to get into their escape zones. Reporter those firefighters escaped to safety. Homeowners say they have an added concern. When youre sitting and waiting, worried about looters. Calfire says homeowners are double protected. Firefighters are battling the fire wild El Dorado County deputies are protecting neighborhoods to keep out looters. Im told the aerial attack will resume when its daylight again. Live in Pollock Pines, amber lee. Those firefighters in Pollock Pines are getting help from the bay area. This afternoon a Contra Costa County strike team met at the cordilia strike trucks. At least two other strike teams are joining them on the front lines from Alameda County and marin county. Their deployment could last a week or more. Lets go to ktvus chief meteorologist bill martin. The courtney fire started over the weekend and is burning hurst. So far it has destroyed more than 30 homes and several dozen other structures and vehicles. Another 200 homes are evacuated. She wanted to kill me. Reporter with the elderly couple tied up the robbers wheeled their safe out of their home. Even after she had beaten up, this 90yearold woman was able to escape her home. Hopped a fence behind her property and run to a neighbors house to call for help. I dont know how i did it but i climbed it. Reporter pa says she did get a good look at the robbers. The men and woman were tall and thin, spoke english with an unusual accent and the man had a fake limp. They drove off in a blue two door sedan. El cerrito Police Believe the robbers had been to the neighborhood before and may have tried to talk their way into other homes. I said sometimes its not nice to be good to somebody. Because people will abuse you. Just be careful. El cerrito police say they have all of their detectives working on this case. Theyre asking anyone who may have had contact with the couple that resembles those attackers to give police a call. Workers at transit are scheduling a protest. Only eight machinists plan to picket tomorrow. The unionists represent 450 workers theyre not happy with contract negotiations. The district says it pays competitive wages and that this strike wont affect the 27,000 people who use the buses each day or the 5,500 people who ride the ferry. Bridge district officials tell us they have negotiated in good fate. Made compromises and they would like to get back to the negotiations table. In an email to carol brown, top aid of peavy, Vice President of regulatory relations cherry complains about an administrative judge assigned to rule on the case. Saying quote, theres a huge line of distance between wrong and wong. Brown says she will see if anything can be done. Cherry replies, please, please, check. This is a major problem for us. Two bay area Football Players under arrest. The criminal charges theyre facing tonight after an incident in the locker room. New video tonight from oakland where right now police are investigating a homicide. Officers tell us they found a man dead on 76 avenue on international boulevard. Police received the call a little after 8 00 tonight. They say the victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. At this point investigators are not identifying him. Since it is so early in the investigation they dont have any information on possible suspects. Two bay area Football Players are facing criminal charges tonight after police say they hazed a younger teen member. Maureen naylor is live at livermore at the school in the center of this incident, maureen. Reporter police tell us that the incident the hazing incident happened inside a locker room at this Livermore Charter high school. Now tonight, two Football Players 17 years old each face misdemeanor charges after investigators say they held down a freshman teammate and shaved a portion of his head. And officers tell us theres video of the incident. Police say the hazing incident happened on the campus of Livermore Valley charter preparatory high school. Around 7 00 last wednesday night. Tonight we were there at the same time as the High School Football team left practice with gear in hand. Several players tell us they could not talk and multiple parents aware of the incident did not want to comment. The two teens were arrested friday night which was also the teams first home game. Tonight we met these soccer players that go to a close by school and heard about the incident. I dont think its fair. Because it was two kids that were smaller than him. So i dont think it was fair for the kids. Reporter they say his coach has told them he has a zero tolerance. If a player does any hazing or bullying, theyre out of the team. Reporter they face charges of hazing, false impressment and battery. Theres a third teen on the video that could be arrested although that has not happened yet. We reached out to the coach but have not heard back from him. Hes already charged with child abuse now minnesota vickings peterson is facing allegations that he abused another one of his sons. Peterson says that they received photos of another child covered in bandages and questions by his mother that she questioned a whooping in the car. The statement said in part, i am not a perfect son, i am not a perfect husband, i am not a perfect parent, but i am without a doubt not a child abuser. The vickings reinstated peterson today. He is expected to play on sunday. Peterson is due in court to face his child abuse charges next month. The nfl is making a move, a new move now in an effort to come up with new policies on Domestic Violence by its players. Most of those arrests were public intoxication arrests including a possible dui. San francisco supervisor david campo extended an invitation to facebook to discuss the Facebook Real name policy. The San Franciscos drag community and others say the policy is discriminatory and potentially dangerous. A meeting is set for wednesday. 2 investigates water leaks draining our supply. From the amount of water that was coming to our basement it would take weeks for us to use that water. We deaf any factually need some rain. We could get some this week. Then yesterday a woman at sea bright beach told park rangers she saw a great white shark about 50 yards from the shore attacking a harbor seal. Warning signs were put up telling people to stay out of the water for three days. Everyone though, surfers and kayakers have been ignoring those signs. Part of the right wing broke off when the plane crashed. The investigation is expected to take about a year. Pilot lee veel was the only one in the plane when it crashed. Why many go unfixed for weeks even months. Tonight, two investigates finds out some leaking pipes in the bay area are going unfixed for weeks even months. This while were being told to conserve water. The drought has more people on the look out for water waste and water leaks but ktvus Erik Rasmussen found out crews dont always respond as quickly as customers would like eric rasmussen. Reporter signs of the drought are all over the bay area. If brown really is the new green, its no wonder sights like these have people fired up. Good afternoon east bay water emergency. Reporter at this east bay m. U. D. Resource center. The consumer is reporting its running on to the sidewalk. Reporter theyre fielding more calls than ever about water waste and water leaks. Two investigates obtained a detailed list of all reports of leaks to east bay mud through july this year. One of them on a day like this you would see water right in the middle of the street down these cracks. Reporter right in front of ron Andrews House in berkeley. It was a nightmare. We lost sleep over this thing. Reporter andrew says a leak from an east bay pipe flooded his basement. Cleaning up the water and the mold cost him more than 20,000. East bay mud confirmed a series of leaks that the location. One many march took 67 days to fix. More water lost than andrews could ever try to conserve in this drought. From the amount of water that was coming in our basement. It would take, it would take weeks for us to use that much water. In our home. Reporter east bay mud settled with andrews for 15,000. And says its doing additional testing in the area now. So far this year the utility says its fixed its most critical priority five leaks in less than one day 97 of the time. P4s in a week or less 87 of the time. Were going to shut this off. Reporter on a 4,000mile system, supervisors say its a never ending job. Evaluating which leaks to fix first. Do you feel more pressure to get those leaks fixed faster now that everybody is looking so closely. There certainly is an awareness on our part of that expectation. Reporter two investigates asked san jose water for a record of all these leaks this year when neighbors in willow glen say a leak there was allowed to flow for nearly a month. I feel im doing my job as a citizen. I feel they should do their job. Thats it. Reporter the private utility declined to provide a list of its leaks but says its water loss is less than 7 . Bet better than the national average. The Utilities Commission detailed a leak but no information on how long it took to respond. Thats where the leak was happening . Yeah. Reporter the challenge is maintaining an aging system of pipes thats only getting older but a long term fix wont be cheap. Reporter east bay mud repairs a mile of pipe at 1,000. Email two investigates at ktvu. Com. A lava flow is creeping closer ever closer to a rural subdivision on the big island of hawaii. The lava is now only. 1 of a mile from the edge of the subdivision. No homes are in imminent danger. Since june the lava flow has crept 10 miles and could cut off a main highway by early next month. And weve got some weather to talk about here. Weve got weather systems offshore that are going to have an impact on us as we go into the next couple of days. Well get to that. Well get to odile which has now been downgraded a few hours ago. Now its a Tropical Storm that has winds of 65 miles per hour. Lets check the track on it. Heres the story with odile. As it moves north through the northern part of baja its going to shift and get pushed. Theyre going to get hammered with rain and thunder and lightning. This whole moisture plume is going to travel to the northern part of the country. Its a story that will continue to grow as we go through the next few days. Actually probably this will be the story for the next several weeks as you go east. The temperatures today 67 in concord, 67 in antioch area. Its pretty warm. Or mild out there right now. Tomorrow is going to be slightly cooler than today because of this low pressure center. And just, i mean its the same day basically but slightly cooler. As we go into wednesday night into thursday. This system gets close. Grabs a little bit of subtropical moisture and brings us a chance for showers. Wednesday night into thursday morning. It would be great. So this is a long range model. It has a broad brush its not really that detailed but will give us a closer idea. You start seeing sprinkles showing up around santa rosa. You see the moisture plume. Its not well organized. The dynamic of the flow is not organized like you would see in the wintertime. But theres a lot of moisture and youre going to get some rain out of this somehow. Into 7 00 a. M. Youre going to see scattered showers into the bay area. This is your thursday morning commute. Could be wet. And maybe. 1 of an inch if were lucky. Maybe. 25 of an inch if were lucky. Over at lake tahoe theyre going to get some rain. They could see. 25 of rain. It continues into the Early Morning hours and then its going. Its something, and it will help. Weve been talking at how dry it is. Just increasing the humidity is going to help a ton. Well be tracking that for you. Thats a big weather story. In the meantime, slightly cooler.
