The Police Vehicles are still here, but just about two minutes ago, they are reopened west wenten to traffic after it had been shut down for more than four hours. They called in a tow truck to take them away. Hayward police, heres some video we shot earlier today. There was a dark suv that had gone off the road, and it appears that the air bags inside had deployed, and there was a tarp covering a figure on the ground. As it pulled away, i did see damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle. The other vehicle was a blue sedan, which had extensive damage. Fire officials tell me there was a gunshot victim at the scene and Hayward Police transported one victim to the hospital. That victim had minor, to moderate injuries. We do not know if that person had any kind of gunshot wound. We did talk with one woman who says she was about a half block away, and she tells me, she heard a loud noise that sounded like metal. In front of me was this car, this suv, two doors open. Police everywhere. Watched the crime scene investigators come in and take pictures. Reporter right now, you can see the traffic has resumed here, but there are still two Police Vehicles that are here, and some crime tape. I have learned that police are at the Police Headquarters right now, and ive found out that there are some people that they are interviewing. Whether they were directly involved, or whether they are witnesses, were still trying to find out as investigators try to piece together what happened here. But for now, we know at least one person dead here. An another taken to the hospital. About an hour ago, caltran closed part of southbound highway 280 in San Francisco. The closure is between the king street onramp to just before Caesar Chavez street, and runs through the weekend. There are home games this weekend, and caltrans is encouraging people to take muni, b. A. R. T. , or caltrain. Park rangers saying the teens did the right thing, by staying put, and calling for help, but the wrong thing by getting there in the first place. An investigation into a school confrontation heated up today, when one of the attorneys called a 12yearold boy a liar. Delia garciabratcher is accused of confronting the boy, and grabbing his throat after he allegedly bullied her daughter. The mother appeared before a judge today. The womans Attorney Says the boy made up the story. She never laid hands on this boy, that is what must be made clear. She did ask him to stop bullying her daughter. She did not get the wrong boy. The boy is lying. The Attorney Says his client was just protecting her 10year old daughter. There is a lot of talk going on in brentwood, because of a picture in a high school yearbook. Reporter smith is dressed like Trayvon Martin, the florida teenager killed by Jordan Zimmerman in 2012. I think its a good idea, because hes expressing himself. I think thats very inappropriate for a yearbook. This is supposed to be capturing the best moments of the year. And you know, all positive things. New developments tonight involving a man who was accused of holding a young woman captive in Southern California for ten years. Today, that man appeared in court. And the judge ordered him held on 1 million bail. Prosecutors say he is a psychological torturer, but some neighbors are disputing those claims. Reporter the woman says this man was her mothers boyfriend until prosecutors said he drugged, and kidnapped her in 2004. 42yearold isidro garcia, now charged with five felony counts, including rape and kidnapping, making an initially Court Appearance thursday in california. Police spent ten years looking for the unnamed woman, while she was allegedly subjected to mental, and physical abuse. Garcia is said to have held her against her will. Threatening deportation if either was caught. On two occasions she tried to escape. He caught her and she was beaten for her efforts. Reporter the kidnapping happened in santa ana. They were living some 20 miles from her home. Prosecutors claim garcia forced her into marriage, and made her have his baby of the police say she recently found her sister on facebook, and her mother convinced her to call police. A man who drives an Ice Cream Truck is accused of trying to sell way more than just ice cream in brentwood. Police arrested 62yearold Kelly Robin Brown of oakley yesterday. Investigators said they got a call from another man who said brown tried to sell them methamphetamine when he ordered some ice cream. Brown was later found at a gas station parking lot, and taken into custody. Santa clara county is suing five big drug makers for what it calls a campaign of deception for the use of prescription painkillers. The lawsuit was filed by attorneys for santa clara, and orange counties. Both of overwhelm claim trug makers have promoted the use of narcotics without the risks. The National Transportation safety board says there needs to be more testing. Why the flying public needs to know about this. Reporter earlier this week, we showed you tests of lithium batteries failing, burning and exploding. The same type of batteries used to board the new 787 jetliner, which underwent a resign to use air to cool the batteries to prevent runaway fires. Uc engineering professor, and senior Lawrence Berkely battery engineer tells us he doesnt believe the resign went far enough. I think the much better design would be to have a liquid coolant system that can provide a much greater rate of heat removal so that if any one of the cells begins to overheat for whatever reason, that overheating will not be transferred to adjacent cells. Reporter today, the ntsb went much farther saying the process is used in 2006 to support the certification of the lithiumion battery designed for the 787 were inadequate. First, conduct short circuit tests onboard some aircraft, not in a lab, to assure the resign would really prevent a domino affect fire throughout the battery cluster. Test all permanent lithium batteries. Develop better battery test standards. Review the battery certification process, and appoint an independent oversight panel. This all comes about a year after the federal Aviation Administration pronounced the batteries safe for passenger flights. This has a certain sense of urgency to it. Reporter carol sterns, says he believes the ntsb, which can only make recommendations is trying to force the faa and boeing to do all of these things. The ntsb is saying wait a minute, were not entirely happy with the work youve done on the 787. Were very concerned that any lithium powered aircraft can have problems. They think these things are not safe yet. Reporter deon has taken in a 15yearold boy. I can deal with things so when my son is depressed, i used to be depressed when i was his age. Hes getting back some of the things he did to me. Reporter he hopes his foster son wont be a statistic. 30 end up homeless as adults. Heres one more statistic. The number of post Traumatic Stress disorder cases among former foster care kids is double that of combat veterans. But deon overcame it, and perhaps other foster kids can do. When we look at what helped him get through his challenges, those are the kinds of services and support that we can look to replicate. Marine researchers plan to examine the remains of a young humpback whale. It has drawn a stream of curious onlookers since it was first spotted yesterday. Its about 25 feet long, and may be two or three years old. Theyre waiting for it to wash onshore, before they get a closer look. Its hoped that happens tomorrow, and a necropsy can be determined why it died. Hopefully, theyll get that necropsy done pretty soon. Temperatures today, they were about where they were yesterday. Its going to get pinched aagainst the coastal hills. It wont go as far inland. These are the cities seeing fog right now. Ive got a lot of fog. Fog out in the bay view, fog in daly city. Very foggy along the great highway. Very foggy on the golden gate bridge. Fog will be pretty far inland tomorrow. The winds are relatively light. Look at sfo, 14 miles an hour sustained. Usually the winds blow stronger. Livermore, just 5 miles per hour. The High Pressure is squishing down. When it squishes down like that, it traps the fog against the coast. The main impact will be warming inland. The fog is down at the tower or the deck, it just shows its going to be cooler inland, because the warm air cant get inland. Im not so sure thats going to go down. I think its going to stick on the east bay hills. Less fog each day as we head into the weekend. Warming days ahead.
