He got into a waiting car without answering any questions. But there are many questions about the multiple charges he now faces. Yee, who advocated for gun control laws, now faces conspiracy of trafficking firearms, illegally importing them, and bribery. We havent had a chance to really read it from front to back. Well defer any comments. Reporter he wasdriven to first of all court, where he spent ten hours odd. According to court documents, he tried to dig himself out of a 70,000 debt incurred for losing the race for mayor. His debt started in 1988. He went on to serve a as a San Francisco supervisor, and later was elected to the assembly. A chance american activist describes him as an effective legislator. He recently worked with yee about the chinese affirmative action. Its very hard for me to believe the accusations. Reporter we asked his attorney how the support plans to plead to the charges. Not commenting on anything specific to him. Every person charged with an offense in america is clothed with the defense of innocence. Reporter many people were disappointed, shocked, and sad, that yee is now facing these allegations. One Community Leader tells me, quote, this is a black eye, concerned about the positive negative impact on other asians running for public office. Amber lee has been pouring over the criminal complaint, and is live in our newsroom. Reporter i read the indictment, it explains that undercover fbi agents met with yee as they were investigating raymond chow. The indictment says as he was campaigning he was conducting illegal business with undercover fbi agents. The indictment says it was conserved with Keith Jackson who was helping with the political campaigns. The fbi says jackson had ties with the ckt association in San Franciscos chinatown, headed by raymond chow. Chow who was profiled in a History Channel documentary had been convicted in 2012 of drugs, racketeering, and murder for hire charges, but was later released from prison in exchange for helping the government in another case. The indictment says undercover fbi agents posed as businessman and an italian mob member, and pam involved in undercover schemes, and drug dealing. They began asking yee for political favors. The indictment says jackson and yee openly discussed how they would break up a large amount of cash for favors. Yee wrote a letter to the California Department of health on behalf of the undercover business in exchange for a 10,000 contribution. Another undercover agent asked yee how much he would want to introduce marijuana legislation. Senator yee said he would have to think about the number. The biggest charge, agreed to set up multimillion dollar gun sales. The indictment says yee asked the undercover agent if he wanted underground weapons. The indictment says yee did tell the agents he could not talk policy. At the same time, he asked for money, agents say yee also told them he was unhappy with his life, and at one point said im just trying to run for secretary of state. I hope i dont get indicted. An additional five years in prison for a seventh charge, and penalties of 250,000 for each of the seven counts. Todays raids were carry the out in three cities. In San Francisco, they swarmed the headquarters of the chinese freemasons. According to the indictment, raymond chow is the leader of that organization. Today, our cameras captured firefighters carrying pry bars, even chainsaws into the building. A source says they were trying to use the tools to open an antique safe. The board now admits, ron yinto was not properly screened after being hired at the beginning of the year. Police arrested ginto last month. Reporter ronald ginto was a teacher at mira vista elementary for less than two months, but his presence had a big impact. He was arrested last month. He faces multiple charges of child sexual abuse. Levi strauss announced hundreds of layoffs today in a cost cutting move. Some 800 people will be losing their jobs at the headquarters in San Francisco, along with offices around the world. They are all managers, and management support personnel. Employees in manufacturing and retail are not included in these layoffs. We checked and found levi strauss spent 240 million for the naming rights to the San Francisco 49ers stadium. Thats for 11 years. These job cuts are expected to save 200 million over the next year and a half. Police identify the suspect as 35yearold jesus bustos of san jose. Back on january 14, steve highman was killed. Police say the killing was gang related, and the victim and the shooter did not know each other. In san jose, and elderly woman who is known for her morning walk was hit and killed by a bike rider. The walkway where it happened has become a choke point due to construction. Last thursday morning, an 89 yearold woman was walking with a friend when she was accidently knocked down by a woman bicyclist. She suffered severe injuries and died at a hospital saturday. Bicyclists we talked to call the path treacherous. To the people that are walking, its dangerous. You can get hit very easy. Everything is under investigation. She fled with her family and landed in San Francisco. This is a common practice. We have over 10,000 prisoners in eritrea. Reporter a member of the Eritrean Community in the bay area, and one of a few willing to speak out against the countrys president and dictator. Our country has been ruled by rumors. There is no rule. So all we hear is rumors. Until there is someone to throw some rumors, and people will start believing those rumors sometimes. Reporter last year, a namnesty International Report found thousands in eritrea had been detained. Prisoners are actually held in shipping containers like this one, and in the african desert, it can get extremely hot and with limited food and water, conditions in here can be deadly. We didnt know if it was day or night. Reporter youngest daughter sara was locked up for a week when visiting eritrea in 2001. I didnt have my identification and their military they hit me, whipped me. Reporter these women say, not knowing what their mother has been forced to endure has made the last two years unbearable. I felt bad. I dont know if shes eating. Or sleeping. I feel bad. If shes cold. Reporter 2 investigates repeatedly called the Eritrean Embassy in washington, d. C. , but we have yet to receive a response. A u. S. State Department Official said theyre aware of the case, but have not received any formal communications from the eritrean government of such an arrest or detention.
