More details now, this gut wrenching case began on december 9 when jahi went in for surgery. On december 30th an order was extended until january 7th to give the family time to move jahi. And this evening, jahi mcmath was moved from the hospital and released to the coroner who reportedly then released her body to her mother. Now to the deep freeze gripping much of the country tonight. Factoring in the windchill today it was minus 54 degrees in park rapids minnesota. Tomorrow its forecasted to be 15 below in chicago. Heres what it looked like today in situit. Homes and mailboxes are covered with a salty sandy layer of ice. Icy roads made for slick treacherous driving conditions. People were trying to make their way ever so slowly through s t. Louis. To the south, a crash involving seven tractor trailers left drivers and passengers stranded in single digit temperatures. That is the sound of wind whipping through elk grove o. K. A two hour lay over in new york from germany turned into two days, i was able to get home with a stand by flight. Reporter weather has stalled travel in the midwest. Eventually told she would fly out tuesday she took her chances and flew to jfk where she took the first flight out. We were sitting on the plane for a little while too. There were ice chips falling. Reporter so far Winter Weather has cancelled 48 flights in bound to sfo and 48 departing flights. That means planes and crews cant get where their needed meaning more delays throughout the system. Linda mctilley tracked her planes rout online until it landed in San Francisco. I know the plane is here. I dont understand the delay. Maybe theyre using our play for another flight or Something Like that. Reporter like other passengers, she pent a lot of time trying to figure out what is next. Switchboards are backlogged with callers. All of this means theres a lot of delays across the board. Delays here at sfo are averaging between one and three hours. But delays of up to five hours arent unusual. As for oakland weve heard there have been two outbound flights cancelled there and one inbound flight and at least two cancelled flights from san jose. They did not announce the facility she will be moved to. A customer at a Big Box Store says his identity has been stolen and he says he is not the only one that has been victimized. That customer was shopping at a best buy where his information was stolen from a smart phone purchase. He was pretty good. Reporter jesse diaz loves to shop at the best buy in vallejo, but recently hes been having second thoughts. I went in, paid for my phone with my best buy credit card. Reporter jesse went in a few weeks later but his card got declined. I said how did it get declined theres no way it could get declined. Reporter someone had used his credit card to buy three tablets. People throughout most of the northeast struggle with cool weather. Ktvus john fowler reports on some who believe this is all because of Global Warming. Another weird day, some call it bizarre bay area Winter Weather. So is this Climate Change . Its like 60, 70 degrees here so its just crazy. I absolutely believe it. Reporter were basking in summer weather and a drought. Extreme cold, water shortages. Not because its a sunny day. Or if it was snowing right now thats not proof of Climate Change either. The first thing i want to point out is this is a pattern that has occurred in the past. Reporter valleverde is a scientist. He shows how this jet stream pattern has sent them into the west. But check out the 1970 pattern. Almost identical. This one produced one of the most severe droughts in california history. What we expect for Global Warming is for the patterns like this to occur more frequently. However its not proof of Global Warming. He also showed me this chart from just a week ago that briefly predicted the so called pineapple express, powerful storms for the bay area. Monteverde says as long as this pattern remains the same atmospheric physics could still produce bomb shell storms but he acts we probably shouldnt count on it. John fowler, ktvu news. A homeless encampment inside an abandoned warehouse is being investigated as the possible cause of a fire. The driver of an suv lost control on interstate 880 and ended up in the water today. The female driver apparently lost control around 3 00 this afternoon. A News Conference has just wrapped up in the case of mcmath. That happened about two hours ago but we dont know where she was taken. Patti lee joins us now live with what will happen next. You were inside that News Conference. Let us know what the latest is patti. Reporter we just came down from that press conference. The photographer and i were at oakland Childrens Hospital around 8 00 tonight and we did see the caravan go by. It consisted of an ambulance, a private ambulance with a medical team, sheriffs deputies and of course the family in separate cars. What weve learned is this was a very tricky transfer. It involved the Sheriff Deputies signing off on jahis body. This is because on friday, last friday the alameda coroner declared jahi dead and had issued a death certificate for the little girl. She is with her family now. We dont know where she has been taken. But we are told that she will be getting a feeding tube before shes transferred to a permanent facility. A facility that will stay private because according to her lawyer, her familys lawyer is for her protection. Because this situation has pushed so many buttons and is raising so many strong emotions in the community. Its brought out the best in people and the worse in people. Weve had people make threats from around the country. Its sad that people act that way. So for jahis safety and those around her we will not be saying where she went or where she is. Were very grateful, very proud. We want to thank everyone that supported us. Everybody that stood in our corner. Everybody that prayed for us. Everyone that donated to make this happen. Im very grateful for this man right here. That is jahi mcmaths uncle. He tells us hes hoping for a 100 recovery. But because jahi mcmath has been treated as a dead person, that it is going to be a very long road to recovery. Now meantime the hospital spokesperson is taking issue with all of this. He says it is unfair to characterize the hospital as unfeeling and insensitive. John singer told us that the hospital along with the medical community has considered jahi mcmath to be a deceased person since december 12th. For tonight we do have this mostly clear skies tomorrow cold start and then the extended more clouds. We could be tracking a few showers to the north of the bay area. Overnight lows first thing tomorrow will be pretty cold in santa rosa, napa 20s. San francisco 42 and san jose in the upper 30s at 37 degrees. Once again the high clouds approaching the region. Then later in the week, a sun cloud mix and a cooling trend by thursday. Theres a chance of a few showers primarily for the north bay. As far as our forecast models showing you an increase in the clouds. Then more clouds developing by wednesday by especially by midday wednesday. Forecast highs for tomorrow.
