Holiday shoppers say they ran for cover after a gunman wearing a white hockey mask started shooting inside a mall. I heard two shots and then after that i heard about 15, 16 more shots. Were learning more tonight about a frightening shooting that happened at a mall near portland oregon. Three people including the gunman are dead. A fourth person is fighting for their life. Amber lee is monitoring developments and is in the newsroom with what shes found out. Reporter the Clackamas Sheriff Department says that they know who the gunman is but theyre not ready to release the information. The festive mood turned into food and confusion after the gunman opened fire in the food court area. The shots were really loud and really scary. I heard three, and when i saw people ran i knew it was not a joke. So i started running. Reporter others said me announced i am a shooting before firing. A witness identifyed the gunman as a white man. Wearing a hockey mask like a friday the 13th kind of version of it. Sort of white just plain faced hockey mask came jogging through the macys running toward the public area. He was holding in full view an assault rifle. Reporter an army of officers came to the scene. He ran back into macys. Its unclear how many shots were fired or if the man had more than one gun. I see a few people running into sears and away from the middle of the mall saying that they heard shots. Reporter this is video shot inside the mall as police evacuated shoppers. Authorities have not identified the two People Killed by the gunman. Or a third person seriously injured. They say Law Enforcement officers never fired a shot. I can confirm that the shooter is dead of an apparent selfinflicted gunshot wound. Reporter there is no word on what motivated the shooting. The mall was closed and Authorities Say it will remain closed again tomorrow. They also say a young woman is at a hospital tonight fighting for her life. Here in the bay area there are questions about security at a walnut creek mall where a burglar or burglars stole jewelry from macys in the middle of the night. Ktvus Deborah Villalon is at the mall and says this isnt the first time. You can see the plywood from the first time they smashed and the third one putting them inside. Wow, unbelievable. Reporter shoppers are startled to see how thieves broke out two walls and went inside and stole pearls and jewelry. Terrible, i think its a sign of the times. Reporter it happened at the same macys store a few years ago. Security cameras are key but as of tonight macys hasnt turned over any Surveillance Video. It would be helpful. The sooner the better. We would like to try to recover the jewelry. Reporter police also wonder why when the alarm was tripped at 3 15 a. M. They werent called until 4 28. Our officers were on scene within a few minutes and were met by macys security. I dont have an explanation for why the time lag in the reporting of the alarm. They want to try something bigger this time. Reporter this jeweler wondering if its the same burglars who stole 10,000 in watches from his store. Steps away from macys six months ago. His back office still shows the damage from that breakin. Ter two men sawed through this exterior wall undetected. He believes security patrols at Broadway Plaza could be better. They come here once an hour which is not enough especially at night. Reporter this store now puts every piece of jewelry in a safe at night and pulls down security shades. Neither the mall or macys will talk about this particular burglary or any changes they will make. We do know the burglars used a sledge hammer to break into the mall, because they left it behind. Drivers first noticed lights were out at about 7 30. Caltrans tells us a main Circuit Breaker tripped. Crews say they took care of the problem and that all the lights were back on just after 9 00 this evening. Now to the south bay where santa clara sheriffs deputy took three people into custody. It ended right at the base of Mount Hamilton. Sheriff Department Officials say deputies were suspicious of a white pickup truck so they checked the plates on the car and it came back as a stolen vehicle. The driver took off after being stopped but police eventually stoped the car and took everyone inside into custody. Right now were getting word of developing news in east oakland where police are investigating a shooting just south of the oakland coliseum. We have a photographer on the scene collecting information and we will bring you details as soon as we learn them. The word is now final, four fire stations will be closing. They slated to go dark next month. The county Council Voted unanimously to shut down the stations. The closures come after voters rejected a parcel tax last month that would have provided revenue to keep those stations open. A collective in berkeley could soon be forced to close its doors. About two hours later they told me it is more likely the victim was stabbed in the neck and he could be 18 or older. If i could sum up this crime scene in one way it would be a geometry scene. Police in San Francisco have arrested five people in connection with a Violent Crime there involving two victims found bound and gagged in the middle of a residential street. As ktvus David Stevenson reports, four of the five people under arrest are women. San Francisco Police this afternoon announced arrests and a Violent Crime that stunned this visitation valley neighborhood. Two people, one identified as steven reed the other described as an 18 to 19yearold woman found lying on russell street bound and gagged and badly injured. The male victim appeared to have blunt trauma. The female victim also appeared to have blunt force trauma. Reporter reed died later that night. The young woman is in Critical Condition but is recovering. Investigators followed up on leads that led them to a house in hercules, california where we took into custody five individuals. Reporter Police Arrested 31 yearold maelene lintz and Montrail Brackens on murder charges. And tiler miller and Heather Leach and maryann manalastas are charged with accessory to murder. It was established there was a relationship between the victims and suspects in this case. Motive is unknown its part of the investigation process to try to determine what exactly happened with the motive.
