incidents of allege abuse. and two threats that he was going to use his power to gain custody of their 2-year-old son. for the first time we are seeing the evidence that led to charges against ross mirkirimi. these documents detail a video of mirkerimi's wife accusing him of going ballistic. a vitaly upset lopez points to a bruise and say, this happened yesterday, two times in 2011 and this is the second time this is happening. >> i don't have any complain against my husband. >> reporter: that's what lopez told reporters earlier this month on the day her husband was arraigned. and she says, i am going to use this against him, because he says he is very powerful. >> using threats like that can be very intimidating. >> let me just make it all go away. it didn't really happen, i'm okay. it wasn't that bad. that's the cycle of abuse. >> the real issue here is how did those bruises get there, was it spousal abuse. >> none of us like to hear people abuse their power but that doesn't mean he caused this situation, or that he committed spousal abuse. >> reporter: mirkerimi has denied the allegations and has vowed to stay in office while he fights these allegations. healther holmes. a police chase led to a man hunt that ended up with officers arresting a man they say they were pursuing. here you see the suspect running up on the stairs around 4:30 this afternoon. the chase started on interstate 580 about an hour earlier. the suspect exited on 36th avenue and wound his way through the fruitvale district before jumping out of the car. police used dogs to locate him on city streets. san francisco police are asking the public for help finding a missing 11-year-old girl. mckinnis was last seen around -- park. levon was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. if you have any information, you're asked to call police immediately. an online protest launched within the past hour by wikipedia. the company's aposed a pair of bills by congress. the protest is taking shape, ken wayne is there to show us how. >> reporter: if you log on to google right now. here's what you will see on the home page. the logo is blacked out and there's a link that says, tell congress please don't sensor the web. you can't even access wikipe d ia. it has a message that says, please imagine a world without -- >> reporter: your internet provider would not allow you to get to websites without information. >> they are using a sledge hammer instead of a scapel. it puts a big burden on internet companies to police the internet which is up to the content right holders to police any exploitation of their content. >> reporter: most of the sellers are legit, but there may be someone selling off knock off gucci purses. >> should they shut down the entire market or just arrested the guy who was selling illegal materials. the guys who are selling legitimate materials wouldn't want them to shut down the market. >> reporter: google statements and wikipedia's self-imposed blackouts are supposed to send washington a message. >> it's going to send a message that ought to be heard by policymakers. they may not know how it operates. >> reporter: the effort may already be working. >> by police in santa clara over the weekend. the coroner says the man killed on saturday was 42-year-old jose nunez ramirez of santa clara. ramirez was pulled over for drunk driving. the officer who made the stop claims that ramirez became uncooperative and reached for a reinvolver. that's why the officer says he shot and killed her. the district attorney is now investigating. in fremont, 14 people met today's deadline and turned in applications to serve as interim major. the late mayor of fremont bob wosomen died last month. the city council now has 60 days to appoint someone to serve the remainder of his term before the end of year. the deadline to apply was 5:00 tonight. we found one applicant who says she is up for the task. >> i was on the planning commission, on the sister commission. i've been active in city politic, active in other city organizations. i'm not interested in doing this for the long term. another freeze warner is in effect tonight for certain parts of the bay area. chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking the conditions and tells us this freeze warning is not as widespread as last nights. bill. >> record lows and tied record lows. we had numbers in the teens in parts of the north bay. not as cold tonight but here's the deal. it's still going to be cold in many inland valleys with freezing temperatures and frost. current temperatures are on the cool side about 8 degrees warmer than last night. but we still have a freeze warning that will go into effect at 11:00 tonight. so the san jose area, a freeze warning in effect. that's not as widespread as last night. but still in the bay area it's going to be downright cold with frost. then we have rain to talk about. i'll see you back here and we'll talk about rain. it's something most of us here in the bay area rarely have to do. scrape ice off a car windshield in the morning but today it was cold enough. and nathan of oakland did just that. he says it reminded him of home north of boston where he normally had to warm up his car for 20 to 30 minutes on winter mornings. the captain of that wrecked cruise liner resisted orders to return to ship even though there were already deceased passengers. >> reporter: rescuers continue to search the capsized cruise ship for missing people. people are still unaccounted for . >> we are asking for help looking for people. in the same place in somalia where we found five people today is the place where there's more possibility that we could find other people. >> reporter: among the missing, a minnesota couple. in a blog posting family members say they have received no word on the couple. the captain who allegedly abandoned the cruise liner will be released from jail and placed on home arrest. the captain who was on a lifeboat at the time resisted orders to return to the ship. >> the boat you go up there, you and the second go on board now. >> commander i want to go on board but it's simply that the other boat here. there are other rescuers it is stopped and it's waiting. no i called the other rescuers. >> it's been an hour that you've been telling me the same thing, now go on board, go on board. >> reporter: the captain was arrested on manslaughter charges, abandoning ship and causing a ship wreck. the abandon ship charge alone carries 20 years in prison. on our facebook wall tonight. we asked greatness now and then. rita williams, ktvu channel 2 news. presidential hopeful and gop front runner mitt romney is referring to criticism over his refusal to release his tax information. romney a formal venture capitalist puts his venture at close to $250 million. he says he pays a tax rate of 15%. that's lower than the top rate of 35%. romney says his tax rate is lower because most of his income comes from investment. the white house jumped in the fringe saying that romney's situation brings into question why people who make much less are paying more taxes. >> consolidating into a gingrich candidacy would event virtually guarantee victory on saturday. gingrich acknowledges he needs to win this saturday in order to stay in the race. political experts say if romney wins in south carolina it will likely mean he will win the republican nomination. the democrats are making it clear they intend to work hard to court the southern vote in the race. the democratic national convention committee said today it will launch it's convention september 3rd in north carolina with a day dedicated to celebrating the carolinas, virginia, and the south. in order to accommodate this day of celebration, the convention will be shortened to three days instead of the usual four. the federal judge who ordered the state's prison medical care system says the end of that arrangement may be near. a receiver was put in charge of the system in 2006 after investigators found one inmate a week was dying because of neglect or malpractice. inmate advocates told ktvu the prison medical system is still willfully inadequate. they acknowledged improvements including a complete prison hospital in stockton. a 14-year-old boy is in custody tonight accused of sexually assaulting two women twice his age. as ktvu's eric rasmussen reported, the boy's grandmother says her grandson is innocent. but she still marched him into jail. >> they ran on him, i said we came through a gun detector, i'm bringing him in. >> reporter: despite his young age and small 100-pound frame, police consider the teen armed and dangerous. investigators say the suspect approached 28-year-old women simulated having a gun, took their purses and sexually assaulted them. police won't say how they identified the boy as their suspect. but decided to put out an alert with his name and description over the weekend. >> we strongly believe that if we did not put this information out in the interest of public safety, he would not have turned himself in. >> you get to ask him straight up are you involved in this. >> i asked him, i said tell me the truth. i said i can deal with no lies.. they said he might have did a robbery, i might agree with them. but a rape and an assault they need to stop putting that on him. >> reporter: family members say they are furious police released the boy's name. and they've already contacted the naacp and an attorney. if you're planning to drive into san francisco during president's day weekend you probably won't be able to use the bay bridge. the westbound lanes on the upper deck are scheduled to be closed from 8:00 p.m. on friday february 17th until 5:00 a.m. on tuesday february 21st. crews will be moving the lanes on the oakland side near the incline as part of a preparation work. the lower deck here will remain open. if all goes well last night, the new span could be open by the end of next year, six months earlier than planned. we posted more details on the closure on ktvu.com. just look for the link on the home page. a very active pacific and as charged with the murders of four homeless men. former marine ocampo is accused of stalking and stabbing to death at least four homeless men in orange county. the rampage began last month. ocampo's own father is said to be homeless. the young marine returned from the war front a troubled man. no word yet on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty. an l.a. county judge told lindsay lohan as long as she keeps going to her sessions he probation will end in march. her probation stems from a dui conviction and a theft conviction last year. in news of the world tonight, in greece thousands of people took to the streets of athens tonight. while protests have become more peaceful a plain clothed police officer was beaten by 30 protesters. all of this comes as greek leaders try to secure the next installment of bail out funds. in egypt, former president mumbarack was wheeled into court in a gourney today. people in the courtroom shouted lies and called for his execution. in japan a blizzard brought at least 80-inches of snow to the northern island of okito. officials don't know exactly how many inches because their measuring equipment was damaged in the storm. they do know that this is the most snow since 1946 when recordkeeping began. the storm stopped train and plane travel and another 20- inches of snow believe it or not is possible this week. new developments tonight over a commemorative brick walk way being demolished at the golden gate bridge. more than 7,000 people paid to have inscribed bricks installed in the walkway 25 years ago. now the district says the equipment from a girl's south ball league. ktvu news has learned that the pleasanthill league is donating enough equipment for the girls to continue their season. at this point police have made no arrests. the airline making changes to add seats to its planes. plus they were passengers on that ship that capsized. they are back in town and talk about the captain. subway big hot pastrami melt. subway. eat fresh. the tragedy on a cruise liner off the italian coast has left a lot of people stunned and shocked by that captain's actions. ktvu's rob roth spoke to a former cruise ship captain who worries the incident is going to be a black eye for the cruise ship industry. >> reporter: he calls the decision by italian captain scatino to leave the ship incredulous. >> i guess i'm ashamed as a professional mariner, that would be the last thing i would think somebody would do. i can't fathom that. makes me professionally angry as well. >> reporter: in an emotionally charged tape, a coast guard commander is ordering the captain back on the cruise ship. scatino do you realize it's dark. coast guard captain; so what scatino, you want to go home because it's dark. get back on the boat. >> reporter: a couple had gotten off the ship early. but had already formed a poor thought about the captain. >> my first impression, i told my wife, that captain there doesn't care about anybody but news. southwest airlines is giving its fleet a make over to make room for more passengers. the airline announced today it's installing new seats starting in march. the new seats will recline two inches instead of three and leg room will be cut down to 32- inches. the new design will cost $60 million but add 10 million a year from added ticket sales. virgin america is expanding it's service to philadelphia. that includes two daily nonstop flights from sfo starting april 10th. tickets start at $149 each. the wait is almost over for american idol fans. the new season starts tomorrow night and the judges say, they are pretty impressed with the auditions they've seen so far. >> amazing talent. best talent probably, better than last year. >> last year, i knew of the one, i kept talking about
