some pretty impressive totaling. >> reporter: that's right. the numbers adding up since last month. the activity today has been decreasing over the past few hours, right now on the storm tracker you can pick out the coverage. this is the loop over the past two hours. you get the idea with pretty much the rain source moving out of town. we have a little bit of lingering activity and as you can see around the south bay for san jose. there is the airport right now and still a few lingering scattered showers in this area. out in the east bayh round livermore the area still a few pop up showers. the trend will continue to scale back on the coverage into the evening hours. its been a very wet week all the way since monday. rainfall totals, you can see santa rosa, five inches of rain since monday. san francisco and oakland nearly four inches and san jose around 2.43. a bit of a break for tomorrow but tracking another system in the pacific. i will let you know what this will impact the bay area in the full forecast. >> thank you. snow in the east bay hills caught people by surprise as jim vargas reports it was a chance to have winter fun while it lasts. >> ice cones. >> reporter: the snow was minimal but stayed on the ground all day in the east bay hills. these kids came from the central valley where it never snows. >> it's just like what we went from our one time, it was the same but kind of heavier. >> reporter: by late morning the snow had turned to ice. the weather closed some parks but this didn't stop home prosecute driving up or in one case pedaling to enjoy the snow. >> i should be home. i shouldn't be doing this. >> reporter: why? >> because it's cold. >> if are you looking for the snow it's about a mile walk. >> reporter: mount diablo stayed open for a mile from the snow line. some hiked the rest of the way. >> it's really coming down and everything is turning white. it's beautiful like a postcard. >> reporter: the rain, snow and cold didn't hurt down plans to camp out. > why camp in this weather? >> for the challenge. just to camp out. >> survival. >> reporter: driving on the small roads and curving can be a problem. there was a near head on collision this morning that injured one driver. >> have you to slow down. there is a lot of people that have been noticing this morning just stopping in the middle of the roadway, getting out of their carses, taking pictures and that's dangerous. people are come around turns. >> reporter: there may still be snow tomorrow but if you want to see it get here early. in berkeley. >> sierra has seen plenty of snow as well. it's probably just what the ski resorts wanted for the long holiday weekend. we will show you what the conditions are like in the mountains in about 25 minutes. bay area search and rescue teams helping in the search for a missing snow boarder on mount shasta. the man was last seen thursday. he called his family to say he was going to take one more run down the mountain. the sheriff said about 70 searchers are still on the mountain looking for him. the sheriff said about two feet of snow has fallen and it's still snow tonight. searchers are assisting searchers from northern california and oregon. >> despite the rain hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of san francisco for this year's chinese new year parade. the largest celebration of it's kind outside of asia. we were there to witness a few firsts in the long history. >> reporter: the streets sweepers have come through and traffic is flowing on market street as you can see. the rain actually let up during the parade and maybe had something to do with good luck or that rabbit. the year of the golden rabbit got off with a bang. >> it's great. >> reporter: nearly one million braved the drizzle and cold where boundless bunny ears, dancers, drummers, and floats swirled through city streets. >> i didn't like coming in the rain but it's worth it >> my children are from chain a. we tonight. they said it stopped service on its line shortly before 6:00 tonight when 150 feet of wire fell to the ground. nobody was hurt. they aren't saying what caused the wires to collapse. they have set up a bus bridge between judith and 22nd. we just checked the website about 20 minutes ago and service had still not been restored. >> passengers boarded bart trains for the first time today at the new west dublin pleasanton station located at interstate 580 and 680 in dublin. the first train pulled out of the station this morning and will serve riders. >> in the 90's we are building it, this was supposed to be a stop. we had no money for it. we put in all the plumbing, all the things in case the money came in. >> money came in and ground broke four years ago. it's the first to be built in between two existing stations. bart investigators haven't said how several pieces of metal ended up on tracks last flight prompting a shut down of membership of the system. it started after 6:00 last night when it was spotted on the tracks at the west oakland station. workers cut the power to four of five bart lines for about a half hour, snarling the evening commute. they say it was about 8:00o 30 before they got back to normal. >> pg&e said it wouldn't change how it monitored the pipeline that exploded in september. that's according to a report in the san jose mercury news. after that deadly explosion it was revealed that the pipeline had a welded seam. a fact pg&e didn't know. the company said the federal guidelines are the same for pipes with seams and those without. investigators have determined the blast started at a poorly installed weldon that seam. there is word that the refinery is set to restart operations. valero has almost finished the repairs it started last december that included installing anti pollution devices. officials say there could be loud noises and flairing which are normal during a refinery start up. bay area ware quality managers will monitor emissions from the plant. >> jail houses many drug crime suspects but wouldn't get any from the drug county task force for now. >> system down. the problem for oakland police as they responded to a violent party. >> and a dog problem tonight as a northern california dog turns up a long way from home. the news continues in 90 seconds. no the woman who drove her car in to a rite aid said it was in park the entire time. the lexus could have hit people inside the store if it wasn't for a support pole that stopped its progress. it happened in the laurel woodshopping center. nobody was hurt including the driver who was in her 30s. the store closed after the crash for employees to clean up. a contractor had to be called into stabilize the support pole. a narcotics team has stopped operations at least for now after the arrest of its lead officer. as john tells us other agencies are now fighting ways to move forward while one of their own is prosecuted. >> reporter: until wednesday the county narcotics enforcement team was run by norman welsh. now his admission to role in a drug theft and sell spree has stopped them in their tracks. >> for now their operations have martinez. >> oakland police say they don't know what led to a shoot that killed a couple sitting in a parked car. the 31-year-old redwood city man and his 27-year-old girlfriend from oakland from on their way to a party in east oakland last night. authorities say just before one two unidentitied people approached that car that was parked at 62nd avenue and hilton and opened fire. both died at the scene. not long after that shooting gun fire erupted at a party at a hotel. a familiar problem surfaced again for those officers responding. >> reporter: police investigators say a party in one of the third floor rooms at the inn got out of hand this morning. around 3:30 a confrontation broke out and someone fired several shots. >> the hall was full of people running screaming, crying. >> reporter: the bullets struck one man who was sent to the hospital, when police arrived they tried to sit up a perimeter. >> our radios weren't working in that area. >> reporter: they couldn't talk to each other or with dispatchers so they had to go back and use the equipment in the cars. >> the officers were forced to use the car radios which worked a little better and helped us talk to the dispatch that helped coordinate the scene. >> reporter: to do that you had to leave your post? >> some did. >> reporter: officers learns the radio system that usually cover east oakland was down. it's the latest a string of issues with their police radio system. last month they also lost contact. >> that poor mental bi --. >> reporter: crews were the city of oakland area wafer the problem this weekend and trying to fix it. >> the oakland city administrators office released a statement about the issues saying it radio techs believe they have isolated the problem to a specific antenna that appears to have failed as a result of bad weather and the age age of it. it was replaced this morning. tests indicates operations back to normal and the quality and stability of the radio system has been restored. >> oakland police hoping tonight's episode of america's most wanted will help them catch a homicide suspectt. featured a segment on sean michael sullivan. he killed a man in november. another man was wounded is paralyzed from the waist down. sullivan is on the united states marshalls 15 most wanted list. they are offering a 25,000- dollar reward for information leading to his arrest. a new website launched this week for south bay residents looking for information involving a controversial cement plant. two fact finding committees jointly created the south bay quarry libby. it went up late thursday with documents and data involving the lehigh plant. residents approached city officials last year with health concerns related to plant operations. the two committees were formed to determine if it meets emission standards. >> a faceoff in wisconsin was union protesters descended on the capitol to fight efforts to strip unions of their baring powers. the governor has pritchett. >> the school district has more problems than just funding programs, its facing an 11 million-dollar deficit next yearn. an effort to bridge the gap on tuesday the school board is scheduled to decide whether to close two more schools. silver wood and westwood elementary in concord. the superintendent said with fewer students and less money from the state it just makes sense to close schools. >> it appearance more layoffs and program cuts in sight for the napa valley kyle district. they voted to cut more than $6 million from its budget. the cuts which range from sports to vocal programs are the board's plans for a worst case situation budget. three more furlough day also be added up to 60 teachers and pop to receive pleiomery layoff notices. davis sciencists turning to wine to try to keep airports safe. sounds strange but researchers hope to use technology used to test wine as a way to find liquid explosives. they said passengers may be able to take bottles of water it's destroying life on the sea floor. she said her team has surveyed about 2600 miles in the gulf and found that the spilled oil isn't degrading as fast as hoped. at a conference she showed pictures of dead bottom dwelling creatures including crab, brittle stars and tube worms. the chief of the national administration said that almost all of the oil from the spill is gone but she doesn't see it reach around 30 degrees first thing tomorrow morning. in fact here say look at the overnight lows, projected low action santa rosa there is that 30, san francisco 39 degrees and livermore around 33. fairly good bet of patchy frost. for tonight decreasing showers, it has been the trend for tomorrow a chilly morning but a sun cloud mix and then the extended forecast we introduce shower chances and cold air could push in. here is the storm from today. you can see it finally scooting out to the south and the east. for sunday for the most part a dry weather pattern. the latest forecast models bringing in at least a few sprinkles. it's only a slight chance but tomorrow a much better day than today and into next week and into monday more clouds and there is a chance of a shower, the main rain band should stay in the pacific but it's close enough we have to bring in the rain chances as we head into monday but a cloud producer as we do head into the beginning of next week. here is the is that cloud once again into monday and that possibility of a shower right now the forecast models keeping the associated rainfall out in the pacific but close enough we watch that from monday. partly cloudy for tuesday and wednesday and looks like a fairly good bet of more showers for thursday and friday. heather and ken if you thought today was cold we could have colder air, colder air
