No one was home at the time. But a neighbor heard the giant tree fall. It was like a rumble. Like an earthquake rumble. You hear the rumble. Thats what i was listening to and i caught a glimpse from the window. This was moving. I thought it was coming my way. I was heading up towards the back to get out of the way. Both houses are second homes for their owners. One of the homeowners says hes still waiting for a damage estimate and is hoping to rebuild. Highway 9 is shut down this noontime still in Santa Cruz County because of a mudslide. It happened around 3 30 this morning south of highway 35. The mudslide also brought down a big tree and a power line onto the road. The highway is closed in both directions and the chp says its expected to remain shut down until 5 30 tomorrow evening while caltrans crews clean up that slide. It certainly was a downpour. Meteorologist Rosemary Orozco joins us with a look at how much rain we got in the last few days. Good afternoon. As expected, we saw quite a bit, over the hills, the north bay. First lets look at a broad brush view. Over the north bay, 2 to 5 inches reported from santa rosa through areas like petaluma and into napa. Central and south bay picked up anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half to three inches for most areas. A few isolated areas like saratoga picked up 4 inches. Heres a look at a few more numbers. Cobb mountain well to the north, 15 inches. There were a few isolated areas that picked up a whole lot. Meanwhile, it dropped off as you get into areas around calistoga, 5 inches reported. Santa rosa reported 4 and morgan hill 4 inches. At petaluma 3. 81. Weve got danville with 3. Hayward, oakland, San Francisco, primarily anywhere from 1 moi 50 to about 3 1. 50 to about 3 inches. A were continuing to see just a few scattered showers. Just a little bit of lingering moisture picking up on some over the Santa Cruz Mountains here. This is just again the last bit. Well continue to see these push off to the east and eventually be drying out and warming up. I will have a look at what you can expect for the days ahead coming up. All right. Thank you. More than 2,000 pg e customers are still without power in the wake of that bay area storm that toppled trees. Nearly 400 homes in a vallejo neighborhood are without electricity. Thats because last night gusty winds caused a tree no snag power lines. It happened on the corner of baxter and burnham. Neighbors say theyve been without heat or electricity since 9 00 last night. I watched the tv and i was watching the grammys and all of a sudden, there is a snap, crock and like popcorn and crack and like popcorn, the lights went out. All of the power went out. We check checked and 2500 just checked and 2500 are without power. Most are centered in the north basically. The utility says most customers should have power restored by the end of the day. The northeast is bracing for another winter blast. Its the third in three weeks and this one is targeting boston. Residents are being told to stay inside. School has been canceled. Flights grounded. A 17yearold boy is facing kidnapping and rape charges after police say he attacked a Dominos Pizza delivery driver. Antioch police say the woman drove to an address on bluebell circle to deliver pizza sunday morning. She told police the boy forced her back in the car at gunpoint, drove her to another location and raped her. When he let her go, he called police. The suspect was found shortly after and arrested. A spokesman said Oakland Police have released a sketch of a man they say slawmed a 10yearold boy on his way home from school. The suspect is described as latino, 40 to 50 years old. 57 with a slim build. He has salt and pepper hair, a beard and police say he looked unkempt. He was wearing a Brown Leather jacket and black pants. Police say the leaked assault happened january 27th as the boy was walking home from school on 98th avenue. The only named the openly suspect named arrested in connection with a dismembered body found inside a suitcase has now died. San Francisco Police say 59 yearold mark andrus checked into the hospital on saturday and died that night. This just a week after he was arrested and later released due to a lack of evidence. Investigators are still actively investigating the grisly find of a mans torso inside of a suitcase at 11th and mission streets. Donations continue to pour in for victims that ripped through an Apartment Building in the mission district. One man was killed and more than 60 people along with 18 Small Businesses were displaced by the fire. It broke out just over two weeks ago at the building at 22nd and mission streets. Many of the residents are living in shelters. A neighbor with a desire to help has set up a gofundme account to get the victims into longterm housing. Were only day two, three at the most from that at most. Thank you. A destructive winddriven wildfire continues to burn at the east of the eastern sierra. It started friday in inyo cuck and spread to 7,000 acres across the countyline. Firefighters have been up against winds as high as 75 miles per hour. 40 homes and other buildings have been destroyed. Flames have damaged at least five other homes. The communities of paradise and Squaw Meadows have been evacuated. Calfire says the fire is 85 contained and the cause is under investigation. It was an emotional morning at a santa rosa preschool after a devastating fire over the weekend. Despite the damage that was done to the childrens learning center, the school on steam lane opened as normal this morning. The fire on saturday night destroyed about half of the school but it was contained to one building, meaning all 30 kids will be moved into the other building. The flames destroyed supplies and toys, much of those materials were bought with many from a grant the school had just receiveed. Everybody everything is gone. People who have heard about the fire have dropped off donations. The school is looking for more items, including clothing, art supplies and toys.
