We begin with breaking news in San Francisco, where a car has crashed into a building causing a gas leak. It happened less than two hours ago on argonaut near bur in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood. At this point, there are no reports of any injuries. This is north of embarcadero near pulgas avenue. Its still closed partially. Thats because there is a power pole in the middle of the road. But they are hoping to this completely open by the afternoon commute. Police say at around 6 15, the driver of the Nissan Maxima lost control. He was traveling southbound on east bayshore when he hit a power pole and flipped over in the road. In process, a male pedestrian in the area was struck and died at the scene. Its unknown exactly where the man was walking when he was hit. The driver is an adult in his late teens. He stayed at the scene and cooperated with police but was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. The accident shocks those who work in the area. Thats something he will have to live with for the rest of the his life. Its tough. Its tough to drive like that. A bad decision. Somebody paid the ultimate price for it. Reporter the accident snarled traffic because east bayshore was closed in both directions, again, from embarcadero to pulgas avenue all through the morning commute, so detectives could investigate. The identity of the victim is not being released. The light pole down is not affecting customers. Theres still power in the area. Were learning more about a double shooting in oakland that left a young woman dead and a young man injured. It happened around 1 30 on 69th avenue near san leandro street. The two victims were riding together in a car when someone in another car opened fire on them. The victims car crashed after the shooting. The 22yearold woman was found dead at the scene. A few blocks away police found a 20yearold man who have listen shot but hes expected who had been shot but hes expected to survive. One neighbor is frustrated by the violence. Its unfortunate these type of things are happening in our community. Its time for a change. We have to Work Together not only with the community but with the police itself. Police dont have a description of the shooter or shooters or any information about the getaway. Both victims are from oakland. Investigators are trying on the to figure out why they were targeted. In a rare show of unity all six of the mayoral candidates are backing a measure on the November Ballot that renews funding for police and violence prevention programs in oakland. The candidates are endorsing measure z. It calls for extending property and parking taxes approved in 2004 under measure y for another ten years. If approved, it would require oakland to maintain a minimum of 678 police officers. Backers say measure z would help reduce gun violence, homicides and robberies and improve 911 response times. It would also provide support to Community Programs for at risk youth. A 2yearold girl is on life support after falling in a Swimming Pool in vallejo. It happened yesterday at a home on tobin drive. Police say the little girl and her family were visiting relatives when the child wandered into the backyard and fell into the pool. A fire crew that was on another call just blocks away was on the scene within minutes. But the child was unconscious and not breathing when the firefighters took her to the hospital. Some loose bricks tumbled onto a San Francisco street this morning from a partially demolished building. He died last week. The cdc held a news conference. The director of the cdc says the nurse is in stable condition. It remains unclear how she got the disease but the cdc points to possible inconsistencies with the protective gear she was wearing. They also point to this warning about how the disease is spreading. If this one individual was infected and we dont know how within the isolation unit, then its possible that other individuals could have been infected as well. So we consider them to potentially be at risk. There were about 50 medical professional treating duncan at the Presbyterian Hospital in dallas at the time. Dr. Frieden also said they need to rethink the way they address ebola infection control. He also said they are monitoring others who had contact with duncan. Before the index patient in dallas was hospitalized and isolated, there were 48 potential contacts. 10 known to have contact with him. 38 who may have had contact with him. All of those 48 contacts have been monitored daily, none of them have developed fever or other symptoms as of now. This morning, as well, crews were also at the nurses apartment wearing protective suits cleaning it to make sure the virus doesnt spread. The cdc said additional cleaning are planned.
