Francisco where theres been a stabbing at glide Memorial Church. Ktvus Tara Moriarty joins us live now from the scene in San Francisco good afternoon, tara. Reporter a glide Memorial Staff member was attacked inside the block. It happened around 10 00 a. M. The suspect ran off. They were later seen on a bus. Police detained them. When we first pulled up, there was an officer who led another staff member in the car for questioning. Probably getting some witness type of statements. We do know that the person who was attacked was stabbed in the shoulder. They were taken to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital and they are expected to survive. Now, glide Memorial Church did release a statement, they say, we are saddened by this occurrence and we continue to be committed to making our environment safe and welcoming as we serve San Franciscos most vulnerable communities. They also said after the person was attacked, the glide team, which is trained to deal with these sorts of situations provided first aid to the staff member. They acted quickly. Two officers just walked out. I believe they have some people that are being questioned about this. Thats as far as we know. The victim in nonlife threatening at San Francisco general. A. Power poles power lines fell onto the street at 8 40 this morning. Police shut down all lanes of concord between ares road and trail creek court. No word what caused the crash or when those lanes will be opened. It looks like pg e utility crew truck there also on the left side taking care of those downed power lines. An Elementary School in santa clara had a rough start to the school year this morning after a threatening phone call caused a lockdown. Police say sutter Elementary School received a phone call from a person threatening to use a weapon at the campus at 8 30 this morning. The school immediately went into lockdown. Parents who were dropping their children off were all ushered into classrooms. Doors were locked. Window blinds were drawn. Everyone got on the floor. Outside, Police Officers did a sweep of the school looking for any suspicious persons in the area. After an hour, they determined there was no threat and the lockdown order was lifted. Police suspect it was a prank. Absolutely frustrating. Obviously, we want to respond to credible events, but this is what we do. We want the community to feel safe. We want the school folks to feel safe as well the were happy that as well. Were happy its not a real event and the school can resume to the normal business day. Parents were notified and offered to leave their children at school or take them moment. Most chose to keep their kids on campus. Officers will remain on sight for the rest of the day as a precaution. Police are searching for a gunman involved in a shooting that killed a teen and injured several others overnight in East Palo Alto. Police say six people were sitting inside a toyota camry about 11 30 last night when a man started shooting at them. Bullets hit four passengers, an 18yearold now identified as barajas was killed. Investigators are trying to determine if the shooter approached on foot or was in another car. They say this crime is pretty bold and the victim was targeted. This particular particular intersection is not known to be high in crime. So i dont know why the crime occurred right here. But hopefully well find out soon enough. A tow truck hauled away the camry for evidence. Other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. The motive for the shooting is unknown and so far no arrests have been made. And today, 11 suspected East Palo Alto gang members were scheduled to be in a San Mateo County courtroom. They are accused of taking part in a series of killings and other Violent Crimes across the peninsula over the past few years. Officers arrested them earlier this year in an attempt to crack down on violent street gangs in the East Palo Alto area. Nine of the defendants who are charged with murder could face the Death Penalty if they are convicted. Pg e was back in federal court this morning for arraignment on criminal charges stemming from the deadly san bruno gas pipeline explosion. The utility pleaded not guilty to dozens of charges related to the 2010 blast that killed eight people. The 27count indictment accuses pg e of violating the Pipeline Safety act and of misleading federal investigators. The government is asking for a minimum fine of 281 million. Pg e lawyers and federal prosecutors are set to return to court in a couple of hours to take care of some procedural matters related to the case. One firefighter was injured battling a threealarm fire in oakland. Brian flores has been there all morning and joins us live with an update on the firefighters condition and a closer look at the damage. Good afternoon, brian. Reporter good afternoon to you. Well, behind me is the old carpet Depot Warehouse. The business left a few years ago but the building, as you can see, is destroyed and fire crews continue to douse hot spots at this hour. And firefighters this morning faced some difficult challenges in battling this fire as well. What started off as an aggressive attack on a fire at the old carpet Depot Warehouse had to turn defensive after it grew quickly. We received a call. There was numerous calls there was a structural fire on san leandro boulevard. First arriving units did find a gully involved warehouse on fire. Reporter fair investigators say the fire started just before 5 00 this morning from an abandoned camper shell nearby. It remains unclear how it caught fire but Business Owners nearby say that it was illegally dumped by somebody. They also say the abandoned building whose owner left a few years ago has been home to squatters. Fire Officials Say squatters were seen leaveth area moments before the fire started. We got somebody in the neighborhood whenever they pile up a bunch of trash like to set it on fire. This time it just happened to catch the building. Reporter this fire grew quickly and aggressively. The first firefighters who arrived had to call for a second alarm after 5 00. But the flames grew bigger. A third alarm was called. So were more crews 20 minutes later. At the height of the fire, 5,000 customers were without power as well. Crews faced challenges. We had wires down that were live power lines. We werent able to get as close as we wanted to. It quickly went to a defensive fire. We had to make sure that the firefighters and citizens were safe as well. Reporter what made the fire more difficult was a gas line that ruptured that pg e is working to cap right now. The warehouse was not completely empty. It still had remnants of the previous owners in there. Were just making sure that theres no hidden fire at this time. Reporter ten engines and three trucks responded overall to this fire which also destroyed the garage of a home behind the abandoned warehouse. Four people were displayed and are receiving help from the red cross. But for some, the fire just came too close for comfort. It was just probably a hundred feet in the air. Reporter pretty big. Going great guns. Yeah. Reporter one firefighter was injured battling this fire. We understand it was a very minor injury. He was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution. He has since been released. The other challenge that crews face was getting enough water pressure. They also had a call in to add more pressure to the lines. San jose police are investigating a major crash involving eight different cars. It happened on okla and capitol expressway around 9 30 last night. Which is a say a black mercedes ran a red light and broadsided another car causing it to flip several times hitting six more cars. They say the driver of the mercedes tried to run away but was caught by officers. He along with three passengers in the mercedes were all tang taken to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. A tourist visiting San Francisco is recovering today after he was shot in the leg in the tenderloin district. Police say yesterday morning, the man was walking with his wife near polk and ellis when he was hit by a bullet. Investigators say the couple was not targeted. Police took a woman into custody and she may face charges of attempted murder. The press was allowed in the oval office for just a few moments before the closeddoor meeting began. The Justice Department ordered a second autopsy on 18yearold michael brown. The st. Louis county autopsy report says the Police Officer fired at least six to eight shots, including two in browns head. The Justice Department says both reports will be evaluated as part of the federal civil rights investigation. Bruns family hired their own pathologist, dr. Michael boddin. He said president obama is the first president he knows of to get this involved in this type of civil rights race. It shows the interest and the concern the federal government has in this kind of death. The chp is trying to determine if a deadly motorcycle crash was connected to an outofcontrol sideshow in the east bay. The massive sideshow with more than 100 vehicles stopped traffic on several streets around 7 30 last night in oakland. Newschopper2 flew over as they converged along maritime street near the port of oakland. The sideshow made it all the way to the bay bridge toll plaza before the chp was able to break it up. No one was arrested. A few minutes later, though, a motorcycle which may have been involved in the sideshow crashed in Castro Valley. The motorcyclist was killed. Chp says he was first spotted speeding on interstate 580 in oakland. He was hit by an suv after exiting the freeway at the intersection of redwood road and Castro Valley boulevard. Someones bad decisions affects other people and any sideshows and reckless driving, it has to stop. Its not good for anybody. The motorcyclists name has not been released. The driver of the suv was treated for minor injuries. In san jose, police are investigating a deadly hitand run crash that happened on center road just before balfour drive just before 10 00 last night. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the street. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Now police are trying to gather information about the car involved but so far, all they know is that it was a black sedan. The only surviving suspect in the deadly Stockton Bank robbery and police chase was in court today. Jaime ramos looked a little different today with his care cut short. The judge read a account about attempted murder on a Police Officer and a gang enhancement that had not been read before and a court date is september 15th. One month after the bank robbery and shootout, 2 investigates sits down for an exclusive interview with that citys police chief. We know that the officers were determining how many potential hostages were in the car. And that alone is difficult to do that early on. Didnt the officers who were outside the bank see them take the hostages and get away . They did. But the amount they didnt know if anybody was in the car. Remember, they just showed up on scene and saw what they saw. Radio traffic between officers is raising questions about how Law Enforcement responded to the crisis which ended with the death of hostage misty holtsingh.
