Campbell. We do begin with breaking news out of antioch where Authorities Say a Police Officer shot and wounded a suspect there this morning. It happened around 8 50 a. M. At a home on folsom drive near spaulding street. The suspect was taken to the hospital in walnut creek. No word on his condition. Police have not said what prompted the shooting or if anyone else was injured. Well bring you more details on the news at 5 00 and 6 00 as well as twitter and facebook. Well, today, more than four years since the deadly gas line explosion in san bruno killed eight people, city ed lookers released city leaders released criticisms for firings, fines and punishments aimed at the cpuc. Tom vacar is live in the newsroom to tell us more about the newly released details alleging an inappropriate relationship. If the city is right, the cpuc may not survive the san bruno blast. A relationship much deeper and more shocking than even we originally figured. The city of san bruno revealed the contents of thousands of pages of communications by and between the cpuc and pg e in the wake of the san bruno pipeline blast that killed eight, injured 66 and incinerated 38 homes. Pg e has made illegal efforts to influence the cuk decisionmakers to protect the utilitys financial interest. Sadly, the cpuc has participated in the illegal conduct. The city of san bruno has filed various legal motions demanding the removal of cpuc president Michael Peavy from his position. It wants kpg e executives to be removed as well. It wants pg e penalized for illegal influence peddleling. It wants Law Enforcement officials from the attorney general to the county prosecutor to make inquiries as to the pg e cpuc relationship and bring actions as necessary. It wants an independent monitor to oversee the relationship between pg e and the cpuc going forward. If the cpuc leadership during the past three and a half years has made no effort to respect the arms length relationship they are supposed to have with pg e. In a statement sent to san bruno, the cpuc and the news media, the ceo says i want to assure you that well review the emails involved in the matter to ensure this High Standard was upheld, if not well take action. And then the cpuc issued this statement, the cpuc takes seriously all allegations of bias and will evaluate the motions when filed by the city of san bruno, including providing an opportunity for parties to comment. Drivers are not being allowed on part of big oak flat road. That means theres no access to the park on that road or from highway 120. The fire began saturday in the area of el portal. Its now burned 2600 acres and is only 5 contained. Park Officials Say at least one structure has been destroyed and others are being threatened. The fire is not threatening any of yosemites monuments however. Some people forced from their homes by a wildfire east of sacramento in Amador County are being allowed to return home. The fire has burned 3800 acres, and is 65 contained. 13 homes have been destroyed. 1 about 100 were evacuated. The orders were lifted and calfire says more evacuation orders will be lifted in about an hour. Some more areas may be open. You will see a steady progress of this throughout the course of the day, today, and throughout tomorrow. Calfire says the fire started friday when a vehicle drove over dry vegetation. And in southern california, there was a deadly Lightning Strike that killed one man and injured more than a dozen others. It happened yesterday afternoon along venice beach. The l. A. Fire Department Said the injured were either in or near the water. The man killed was a surfer in the water. As many as 13 people were injured, including one person who is still in critical condition. Many of the people who were on the beach say after the Lightning Strike, there was chaos. People that were just frightened for their lives. People running, people looking up in the air. Really scary, it was incredibly loud, like a flash, like a bomb went off and the thunder hit at the same time. The victim has been identified as 20yearold nick fognata. Witnesses say he was first reported missing after the Lightning Strike and was pulled from the water about an hour later. Traffic is glowing on interstate 580 after an yorn tougherred big rig carrying tons of fruit snarled traffic for hours. It happened just before 2 00 a. M. In the westbound lanes near greenville road in livermore. The truck driver slammed into a pickup that had been involved in 5 previous accident. The truck was hauling 50,000 pounds of bananas and tropical melons called jack fruit from mexico. Crews were able to salvage 0 most of it. The triller split open when it crashed. 40 of the load split out. Right now they are just removing the rhett of it and then they will uplied the tractortrailer upload the tractortrailer. Nobody was hurt. Hazmat was called in to clean up aisle and diesel that spilled. It extended all the way to interstate 5. The chp says the mess was mopped up and the lanes reopened by 10 00. Highway 85 in cupertino is back open after being shut down due to downed utility lines. Phone fells from a pole around 6 00 this morning and landed across all of the lanes of the highway near homestead road. For a while, the chp thought they were live wires. Vehicles were diverted off the highway and that caused a huge backup. Highway 85 reopened at about 7 30 this morning. The chp says the lines came down after a nearby fire spread and utility pole near the highway caught on fire. Well, today, new Traffic Signals being install at a dangerous intersection in San Francisco. As you said, this is one of the citys more notorious intersections of yorba and sunset. Notorious for car pedestrian accidents. In about a halfhour, city leaders are scheduled to meet out here to throw the switch and activate new signaling lights here at this intersection all aimed at making crossing this intersection safer. Now, earlier today, we watched as pedestrian after pedestrian bushed the button which alerts drivers that somebody is trying to cross the street and watch as they waited for cars to stop. We saw numerous cars blow right through the intersection despite the fact that somebody was trying to cross and was in the crosswalk. 12 30 mayor ed lee, greg suhr and katie peng will all be here to flip the switch to activate ten new stop slight lights and six new crosswalk signs. People who cross this on a daily basis say all of these are a welcomed sight. People dont stop at all. They are just standing there. Maybe they dont see you. Reporter as we said, this is a notorious intersection. A 78yearold man was killed crossing the street here in february and a 15yearold boy was struck and survived that same month. Bryman college which has campuses throughout the bay area is shut down. Students were notified and are trying to figure out what happens next. Reporter well, students that we spoke to were not satisfied with the answers they received. Were here at the san jose campus of Bryman College. Were told that there werent any staff from the college to answer questions, instead, it was state of officials state officials. Bryman is a school that helps people become medical and dental assistants. The Parent Company biohealth filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and informed the students about the closure through email. It was a huge blow because there are numerous students who were just months away from completing the program and graduating and now they are left not knowing what to do. Those who did graduate are worried because they have not physically received their diploma and wondered if it is still worth any anything. The state department of Consumer Affairs held Information Centers at the bay area campuses this morning in san jose, San Francisco and hayward to tell students what their options were. Friends and relatives are remembering a stockton woman today who was taken hostage by three bank robbers and killed during a highspeed chase and shootout. A Funeral Service for 41year old misty holtsingh is underway right now. Shoo was used as a human shield by men who robbed the bank of the west. The other two women were injured but survived. The funeral began at 11 00 at Bear Creek Community church in lodi. The service is open to the public. Two women were robbed at knifepoint inside their home in the chinatown district. A man entered the home on waferly place around 1 00 a. M. And grabbed two kitchen knives. Police say he threatened two women while robbing them of a debit card and cell phone. The women were not injured but the robber got away and police are now looking for him. Investigators say he is between 30 and 40 years old. In east palo alto, police are investigating a triple shooting that happened over the weekend claiming the life of one man. It happened at about 11 50 saturday night just blocks from cesar chavez elementary school. Police say a 31yearold man from fremont died at the scene. A 24yearold woman and a 27 yearold woman were taken to the hospital and are currently listed in stable condition. So far, no arrests have been made. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a latenight fire at an abandoned propane tank yard in san jose. It started shortly after 11 00 last night at 6th and virginia near 280. Firefighters say a handful of propane tanks caught fire. Officials closed part of 280 and evacuated several nearby homes as a precaution. They were venting propane. We had an active propane fire. Its a very large farm. Our concern is if the other tanks were impinged upon we could have a large fire, possibly an explosion. Luckily, no one was hurt. Investigators say the fire may have started at a nearby homeless camp and spread to the facility. Well, it was a tragic weekend along the Russian River after two people were killed in separate drownings. The most recent happened yesterday when a teenaged boy drowned in the river. Investigators say there was a frantic search for him after friends realized he had vanished from a campground resort east of highway 116. We put our boat in with an underwater camera and searched for an hour and a half and found a young man 30 feet from the shore on the south side of the river in eight to ten feet of live. Er the other accident happened on saturday when a man now identified as edgar mejia drowned after his kayak capsized near the campground. Well, mostly sunny skies.
