It took more than 15 minutes for the clerk to read all the verdicts in the trial of two gang members. Lawrence denard and willie torrents suspected in the death of this 3yearold boy. Feelings when you heard the verdict. Grateful for justice. Grateful for the jury and the time and attention they paid. And again, my thoughts and condolences go out to all the victims in the case. Little carlos nava was shot and killed when he was hit by a stray bullet as he, his brother and mother walked to a local grocery store. Intended targets were rival street gang. Number of deputies were inside for the verdict. Afterward, Defense Attorneys had little or nothing to say. No, but thanks for asking. We are deeply disappointed by the verdict. We have an update on a bay area wide prostitution sweep. It played out over several nights and dozens of arrests and rescuing several girls. We look at the this. Deborah . Reporter this is called operation Cross Country and moments ago at 17th and international, we got the bay area results. 70 prostitutes and six minors rescued from prostitution. We got a look at one sting operation on the first night of enforcement. This hotel, where a decoy posed as a john and women advertising sex on line came to his room. Officers were watching on the camera. As soon as the deal was made, they came in to and prehen the prostitute and her alleged pimp awaiting in the parking lot outside. Out of five women taken into custody one was a juvenile. The minors are offered social services and advocacy to find a way out of the sex trade. It is akin to modern day slavery. The selling of children for sex does not reflect itself to geographic boundaries. We see children moved from our county to San Francisco county to marin county. Throughout the state and in fact, throughout the nation. These may just be numbers or statistics but we remember behind each one of the numbers, each one of those stats is a person and a life. Reporter operation Cross Country was held in 100 cities and here in the bay area from san rafael to san jose in hotels and out on the streets. 200 children were arrested. And 300 pitches arrested. Tara, we understand you spoke to the mother of one of the victims. Reporter she said both of her boys suffered physical abuse and it was the emotional abuse. The victims say the molestation happened on a day to day basis over an extended period of time. They were allowed inside the courtroom and this one of joseph martin, the schoolteacher smiling at the camera. It took the judge 13 minutes to read the counts of child molestation against him. The prosecution in an Opening Statement read a letter written by martin. And said. , dearest father, before this, i was living for myself and to gratify me and feed my sinful desires. Help me not to get arrested and not go to jail and not to be charged with any crimes. Just did he have vast stat tated and devastated and manipulated and incredibly sad. People who do this are really, really good at this. We know that and my husband and i feel a lot of the guilt. That we missed a lot of things. Reporter jones told us about the reason she decided to come forward and share her familys story. The more you talk about something, the more you can work the issue out. And i really wanted to have the boys know there was no shame attached to any of this. That the shame is on the person who caused these acts. Martin who taught third and fourth grade in concord is accused of molesting 14 students over a seven year stretch starting in 2006. He faces life in prison if convicted. This caused the home to collapse into the canyon below. The garage was the only part that didnt fall. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Tomorrow, the National Transportation safety board is expected to release the cause of the crash at 214 at sfo one year ago. The vta said the guardrails were down at the time of the collision. He died and the dog he was chasing after survived. The train was taken to the yard and inspected as party of the investigation.
