Sometimes the describe subsides for a while but its not surprising. It all began at 1 15 this morning. The burglar tried to break into the home on 13th street. The homeowner opened the door and shot the burglar in the chest. The burglar jumped awall wall leaving a trail of blood and other evidence including a wristwatch before collapsing on the sidewalk. It wasnt over for the homeowner. The burglars Three Friends appeared. A shootout occurred in this yard where a suspect or suspects fired at the homeowner who was standing over near that doorway where you can see the bullet holes. We counted ten shell casings where these evidence markers now are. We talked to a neighbor who heard the shots. He said the shooting worries him because his father owns a business close by. Times are tough. People are getting desperate. Its a shame. You see people trying to make an honest living and provide for themselves and its a shame. By the time officers arrived, the burglar was gone. He had been driven to a nearby hospital by the Three Friends. He later died. And every person who has a right to protect their family, their property. Unfortunately people are put into that position, sometimes the threat isnt always necessarily the best ending. North koreas have released the name of the victim. The body of 18yearold Victor Manuel gutierrez was found in the roadway on laguna street in downtown concord. He had been shot to death. The man was walking his dog on 22nd street and bartlett in the mission at about 3 a. M. When he was approached by two other men. One of them grabbed dog. The other brandished a knife. Now to developing news, a magnitude 7. 2 quick shook central and southern mexico before 9 30 this morning. It was 50 miles northwest of acapulco where many families are on vacation for the easter holiday. You can see damage in mexico city which is 170 miles north of the epicenter. Many walls collapsed and electricity was knocked out in many parts of the city. Civil defense crews are checking for more damage. No reports of any serious injuries and no tsunami warning has been issued. That quake comes as people in the bay areas mark todays date, 108 years since a quake devastated San Francisco. This was is ceremony this morning at latas fountain. Hundreds of people were there for a moment of silence and to lay a wreath. I think its a wonderful tradition thats been carried on all these years. I think its a tribute to all the survivor survivor. The quake and firestorm killed about 3,000 people and destroyed 80 of San Francisco. After the ceremony hundreds of people went to ocools for a breakfast honoring survivors. She was reported missing yesterday afternoon after heading out on a hike on wednesday. Searchers found her body around 4 30 yesterday afternoon. They believe she may have fallen 40 to 50 feet. She was found less than a mile from where 33yearold magda lee that was found dead. Its unnerving for shoe. I love mount tam and love running and hiking up there. Sheriffs investigators say even though both womens bodies were found in the same area there doesnt appear to be any connection other than they were both hiking in rugged terrain. A math teacher at a San Leandro High School accused of having sex with a student has surrendered. Leon chang has been charged with two felonies, agenting a minor for sex and statutory rep. For the first time in its history the university of california has invited more latino than white students to be freshman at its nine under graduate campuses. Asian americans remain the Largest Ethnic Group making up 36 of all students admitted. In San Francisco theres a stiff new penalty for breaking rules at the public library. The rules are part of mayor ed lees call for zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior at the library. News chopper 2 was over the scene after the derailment during last nights rush hour commute. The train was heading into a maintenance yard when it went off tracks. No passengers were on board and no obvious signs of damage. Oakland police are calling on the city council to buy new radios after another outage last night left officers unable to communicate in the field. Ktvus learned the Police Radio System went down for 3 minutes last night from 6 31 to 6 34. Its a problem that has plagued the department for years. Officer wills get new radios and the matter should go before the full city council no later than june. Also in oakland, theres a new plan to provide more Fire Protection as temperatures rise and fire danger increases. Each of oaklands 25 firehouses has been closed for 72 hours on a rotating basis. These are a cost cutting measure the city put in place two years ago. It saves about two and a half Million Dollars a year, but now the economys improving. The city and Firefighters Union have reached a tentative agreement to stop the brown outs. The important thing is that our citizens are going to be safe, particularly during this drought season which has a high fire risk. The city council and Firefighters Union still have to approve the measure. Both are expected to pass it. If they do, brown outs would end on july 1st.
