Reporter good afternoon. This was quite a scare for folks in the financial district walking around. They look up, as you can imagine, this scaffolding dangling from the 41st floor. You can see the building, the one with the flag on top right there. This all happened around 7 00 this morning. Passersby noticed the unit hanging unsafely from one Embarcadero Center on the 300 block of clay street. Now, as a precaution, Police Closed battery between sacramento and clay. They also shut down the 28th through the 30th floors of the high rise. Onlookers said it was kind of a frightening sight, especially on friday, the 13th. About 7 15, i came outside and heard sirens go by. Walked outside and saw the rig at an angle that was not correct for theaway these rigs operate. I dont believe it was because its friday, the 13th. I believe its an unfortunate situation that happened. Im happy everybody is okay. Reporter crews were able to secure the rig within three hours. One of the firefighters pulled a spiderman stunt. He was lowered on the side of the building, then he grabbed ahold of the runaway scaffolding. Talk about nerves the steel. This is so high up there. Traffic was impact for the morning rush but cars and pedestrians were all rerouted. The good news, absolutely no one was hurt. Live from San Francisco, im tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. All right. Thank you, tara. A san ramon starbucks will not be opening for Business Today after being damaged by a fire. It started after 4 00 this morning at the starbucks near the crow canyon common strip mall on crow canyon place. When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from the back of the coffee shop. Smoke was coming from two neighboring businesses, a restaurant and a bank. Extra police had to be brought in to secure the area. Firefighters had to bank in to see if the flames extended into the businesses. We made access to the bank and that business and cleared out the smoke and found there was no fire in there, it was just a smoke extension, no fire extension. The banks and restaurants sustained smoke damage. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A homeless man is now in jail accused of starting a grass fire yesterday that forced evacuations in san anselmo. Newschopper2 flew over the fire scene shortly after the fire started along sunnyhills drive. Authorities say the man tossed a match setting off the fire. Police arrested him a short time later. The cost of fighting that huge morgan fire on mt. Diablo this week has soared ie millions of dollars. Calfire announced today that more than 4. 5 million has been spent battling the fire. 452 firefighters are still on the scene. The 3100acre wildfire is now 95 contained. Calfire investigators have determined that illegal target shooting sparked the fire but no arrests have been made. And calfire expects to fully contain a huge wildfire in Shasta County sometime this weekend. The clover fire outside of redding has destroyed at least 68 homes. Sheriff deputies say one man who refused to leave his home died in the fire. One volunteer fire chief has been flighting the flames all week, chief adallas, even raced to save one moment moments after learning he lost his own house in the wildfire. At that point, i wasnt not thinking about my house. I was making sure that one didnt burn. There was nothing in my mind but saving that house i was on. The fire in Shasta County has burned 8,000 acres since it started on monday. A 26yearold man is in custody after leading police hon a highspeed chase through a north bay neighborhood. The chp says he was under the influence and its not the first time. Claudine wong spoke with a passenger in that car to find out what happened. Reporter it all ended in the yard at this home just of a 3 00 this morning. The car took out a stop sign and a fence, but the chp says the house was saved by the tree. The driver, 26yearold patrick mcguire, can be seen in the back of this police car. We found the passenger sitting on the curb. Turned too tight and then the next thing we i know, were in the back of the house. Reporter were you guys drinking . Im a christian, i dont think. Reporter was your buddy drinking . He was driving . I cant comment on that. Reporter the chp says the car was driving at more than 80 miles an hour one 101 and even after exiting attempts to pull them over failed. Continued through the Residential District at about 60, 6 a miles an hour, running stop signs and 65 miles an hour, running stop signs and then crashing into the home. Reporter into the home of nick deeden inside with his wife and daughter. Very loud. I mean, three, four blocks, people can hear. Reporter the chp says alcohol was found inside the car including a bottle that said saving lives one beer at a time. Mcguire has a history of dui. He was convicted in 2007 and then in 2011. Hes facing felony, dui and evasion charges. Mistakes you make and you look back on them and wish you had not made them. The owner said hes loved the tree and he loves it more today. A federal Appeals Court in San Francisco has upseld barry bonds obstruction of justice conviction. The conviction was in connection with the case probing the balco steroids scandal. The 9th Circuit Court ofate peels ruled that of appeals ruled that his testimony was evasive and he was testifying about whether his trainer ever gave him performanceenhancing drugs. Bonds faces 30 days of home confine, two years of probation and a 4,000 fine. A new Police Report shows a surge in crime in berkeley over the First Six Months of this year. The report shows robberies are up 25 . And burglaries rose 34 . There have been four homicides so far in berkeley. There were five for all of last year. The chief plans to present the findings to the city council saying this shows the need for more police officers. A defendant in a murder case appeared in court. Well, tives of Rena Figueroa wanted to be here at superior court to monitor the progress of this case. But there wasnt Much Movement today. They still dont know how she was killed because the case has been sealed. The suspect was assigned to a public defender and that person still needs a couple of weeks to review the case before a plea can be entered. Hes been charged with murdering figueroa. Her body was found in her minivan several blocks away from her home. Police say the two knew each other. Her son says that he went to the same church and had children where his mother worked. But they were not friends. I just want to see that justice is servedded a and that served and that he basically pays for what he did. I dont know to know that hes just let go easily. Reporter figueroa worked at the School Monitor for the past 12 years at olinder. A Memorial Service was held earlier but her family is taking her remains to mexico to be buried. Theres word of a possible Labor Agreement for San Francisco police officers. The examiner reports the deal includes a multiyear 5 pay raise for most of the police force. At the same time, new recruits would face a possible pay cut. City supervisors are expected to give final approval on the deal next week. The nationwide food distributor known as United Natural Foods has chosen gilroy to open a new center. Gilroys mayor says the company will open a distribution warehouse in mccarthy Business Park on highway 152, east of 101. It promises to bring about 500 new jobs to gilroy and may open by the end of next year. United Natural Foods has dozens of other Centers Across the United States and canada. The San Jose Earthquakes may have to wait longer to play at their stadium. Theres a new delay in construction that may back the debut for a full year, until the start of the 2015 season. The team is expected to make an official announcement about the delay on monday.
