San Francisco Fire Department strike team headed out to the front lines this morning, 22 firefighters and five engines will join more than 2000 other firefighters working in steep terrain. Fire Officials Say they are concerned about the safety of the crews because the fire direction has been so unpredictable. Ktvus Claudine Wong tells us about the new Evacuations Ordered in the face of the growing fire. Lets give you a look at the fire area, to the west pine lake and there they are trying to save structures and homes. Here is highway 120 it makes its way through the fire zone, it is still shut down near groveland. On the east side Yosemite National park, the fire has made its way past the boundaries and is two miles from the reservoir. Conditions are shaping up for another difficult day, more were told to leave overnight. You could see the redness where it was burning and then about 10 15 last night the deputy came by and told us we should leave. He spent the night in the park, daybreak brought the news that firefighters lost ground and the fire gained it. More firefighters are on the ground today but veteran says crews are getting beat up and what is happening on the line is unheard of. Our second year of drought. Our fuels are tender dry and i just think that everything is aligning with the weather and what is going on in california that i dont know if the weather is changing globally but in california things are getting more extreme each year. Today will be another day of dry conditions, steep terrain and a fire that just wont stop. Fire crews say key to todays suppression efforts will be an aerial attack, hoping it will give them an advantage on the ground. The weather conditions also giving fire crews a tough time. Very warm and dry out there and that directly impacts the weather or the fire i should say, you can see that smoke over the fire area, temperatures 80s again today, humidity between 15 and 20 so again allowing the fuels to ignite and burn fairly fast. The winds 10 to 15 miles per hour, i will say though inside those canyons and with the steep terrain and topography these areas can create their own winds so that could be aware of and the fire typically travels faster uphill as well as along the steep slopes. Now the fire of course, the headline but outside of that we have the smoke to worry about. That county is under an air quality alert, that includes portions of yosemite, so it is very bad there with the air quality. That is going to continue through the weekend. If you did have plans maybe thinking about heading that direction, also want to mention lake tahoe because the winds from the southwest and the flow here you can see how that smoke is being pushed into tahoe. In fact tahoe and reno reporting hazy smoky conditions so the air quality going to be poor there for the weekend as well. So that to be aware of if you do have plans to head to tahoe. Flames continue to inch closer to the water and power system that serves millions of bay area residents. Tara moriarty live in the city with the big meeting underway. Reporter the feeling here at headquarters for the Public Utilities commission is tense. The officials here have been meeting with the mayor ed lee since 10 00 this morning and are expected to give a News Conference at any moment. Actually from last night. They have been monitoring the rim fear and its effects on the reservoir which supplies water to San Francisco, more than 2. 5 Million People total in the bay area, they say they have done testing on water 270 feet below the surface and it is coming out clear but they are keeping a close auto eye on how the ash is affecting it. They say the fire is not encroaching upon the reservoir so tracking it with maps, the Fire Department sent out 22 men to help, they pulled out. They usually try to stay on the pavement and not get up on the mountains because with are not four wheel drive but we could be assigned to anything, structure protection, perimeter control, help them putting in a fire line, we dont know exactly what we are going to be doing when we get up there. The puc says if it does have to filter the water it has a back up plan and can tap into a couple of months of water from there so no rationing yet but workers here at the puc say they expect to work through the weekend. Emergency dispatchers in Santa Clara County are threatening to go on strike to protest mandatory overtime. The dispatcher say they are forced to work hundreds of hours of overtime a month because of understaffing. Right now there are 61 dispatchers to cover 73 full time positions. County Officials Say they are trying to hire more dispatchers but in the meantime will seek a Court Injunction against a strike by dispatchers. Authorities want you to look at the man in this sketch closely to see if you recognize him. Police say he grabbed a woman walking on franklin street wednesday morning and sexually assaulted her. She put up a great fight and was able to fight him off and run away and summon the police. Officers coordinated with campus security, which put out and alert, the attack happened offcampus right on the edge. The victim was not a student but it still surprised them. Made me think twice about walking in this area alone at night. Just a reminder to be careful and kind of use the Campus Safety that is around. This is the latest assault of a woman in the last month and a half. Earlier this month a student walking close to campus was jumped from behind but was able to fight off her attacker. In july a woman was raped after a man climbed through her apartment window. We asked police if this weeks incident is connected. It is just a random crime that happened. The suspect is a white man, 6 to 62, weighing 200 pounds with an athletic build and has hazel eyes and a mohawk and was clean shaven.
