One firefighter said by the end of this week, he thinks the semigreen hills behind me will be dry and brown. Firefighters busy today. Santa claira helicopters wrapped up rescue drills. A big disaster to happen, we all come together and work as one big agency. Reporter and in between drills well work on grass fires. Reporter put out real fires. We had a fire by the airport this morning. Reporter san jose fire tweeted this picture of that fire believed to be started by someone tossing something out a window. One of a half dozen grass fires today well see increase in fire behavior. Fires will be spreading more rapidly and they will be in intensity. Reporter thation is is wrapping up equipment and staffing this week at other Northern California stations. Definitely ahead of schedule with the drill, obviously, its helping things to dry out quicker. Notices much moisture as throughout the winter. Conditions are at least a month ahead of normal. Evidence of the wind out there. Gusting at 28miles an hour. We were advertising a warmup for today. That happened, but not extremely hot. Warmest locations are in the lower 80s toward fairfield, livermore. San francisco, 69 degrees. The key headline over the next few days, a warming trend kicking in tomorrow, but really heating up for tuesday and wednesday. Now, to new information in a deadly crash in the east bay this morning. A car full of people veered off the road and into a ravine. Tonight, one person is dead and four others injured, following that crash, but neighbors tell us they arent surprised about where this accident happened. Kristina is live in oakland with the push to make the roads safer in that area. People who live near that crash Say Something needs to change. They call that area dangerous. Police say speed may have played a factor in the crash. Before this family could celebrate mothers day and their daughters 7th birthday, they awoke to the sound of a crash where a white toyota lost control just after 2 00 am. Police say the car drove through a fence at Mills College and scraped the side of the tree before it crashed into two redwoods head on. Short intersection didnt give a lot of time to slow down. We have only been here a month and two or three people running on red on that intersection. Reporter others blame the traffic lights. It changes fast. Reporter investigators say speed likely was the cause of the driver losing control. A woman got out of the car and started to walk several blocks down the street where police found her with several broken bones. Reporter it is hoped that the city would make changes to the intersection to spare others from losing a loved one. Police have not released the name or the ages of the persons that died. They are hoping to contact family. San jose Police Investigating an officer involved shooting that injuried a teenage suspect. Shortly before midnight, officers spotted a suspected stolen road and followed it. When officers tried to stop the nissan, they say the driver ran rammed two patrol cars. The officer that opened fire feared for her life. One of the officers discharged a firearm, in fear for her safety and struck the suspect at least one time. Reporter the juvenile male driver was hospitalized for his injuries. His condition has not been released. The female passenger, also a juvenile was not hurt, but she was arrested the officer that shot the suspect and her partner are now on routine administrative leave. San pablo Police Investigating a driveby shooting that may have killed a young man. Neighbors on stanton avenue near giant road reported hearing several shots fired. A witness saided victim was pronounced dead at the scene, but police have not confirmed that. Pope francis called for prayers for the Immediate Release of the school girls kidnapped in nigeria last month. Nearly 300 girls were kidnapped at gun point. Some of them managed to escape. One teen shared her story with a reporter, but she asked a her face not be shown for fears the militants will come back for her. Tonight at least 270 girls are still missing. Increasing pressure to find the girls as the militant group behind the kidnappings continue to carry out attacks. This is not going to be an easy task, but we are going to bring to bear every asset we could possibly use to help the Nigerian Government there is growing fear it may be impossible to rescue all of the missing girls taken three weeks ago by the militant group. An official is in assisting into in the search, saying the girls may have been sold as child brides or sex slaves, and split into groups. Thats where people were celebrating a babys birthday. The gunman walked up to a group of people at 5 00 yesterday evening and opened fire. A man in his 20s died at the scene. Six other people were injured, including a sevenyearold child. Investigators say the person that died is a a suspected gang member divers and boat crews have been scouting folsome lake a second day in search of four men in a speed boating accident. They have not been seen since the boat flipped over yesterday afternoon. The boas has been found, but so far, no signs of the men. The operation is considered to be one of a recovery not a rescue. They saw no proof that the men will been using life vests. We are staying on top of it, these landfill fires, when the wind starts to go like this, they can burn for a long, long time. There is debris under there that gets heated and hot and smolders on all of theett and debris. A lot of material to work with. As you mentioned, winds are the biggest obstacle. We understand this recycling plant turns wood into landscaping bark. A lot of bark is on fire. A lot of heavy equipment on fire. This happened at 4 30 this afternoon. Its a wind driven fire. Is a wind driven fire, as you just said. The wind is causing this fire to go further south. We have alot of wind coming up behind us and making the firefight a little tough for us. We have some heavy equipment to expose some of the undergrowth so we can contain it, but i imagine we will be out here for several more hours, maybe even several more days. Right now, we have approximately 11 engine companies, onethird of our firefighting force. There are 45 firefighters up there. Reporter and you have no Water Resources on the top of the mountain the closest fire hydrant is approximately a half mile away. We are having to shuttle water back and forth to put the fire out. Reporter we know its fire season, this is the start of fire season, how difficult is that . Its going to be very challenging with the drought, increasing heat, the lower humidities and this wind that is out there, thats just its a great recipe for a fire.
