Over 150,000 lost power at some point yesterday. Most were in the east bay. Almost 8000 there. Another 5000 experienced outages in the south bay. People in richmond experienced several outages including one that was caused when this power pole caught fire after it short circuited. A fire and explosion woke a number of people up. I smelled fire. And when i opened my blinds i saw fire on top of the polls. After that boom there you go. The power went out. Over 1700 are still without power as of 7 00 this morning. Crews are working to get power back. Hopefully by this afternoon. The rain is not over just yet. This is what it looked like much of yesterday across the bay area. With just 3. 5 weeks to go until election day, Hillary Clintons lead in the polls is widening and a new fox news poll shows clinton with a 7 point lead over donald trump. Clintons former rival, Bernie Sanders, obn San Francisco today. He will lend his support for the campaign for prop 61. We have joe tuman here with us this morning. Thanks for coming in. Lets talk about Bernie Sanders. Thats why i pulled this out. Go ahead. I guess he is stumping for a supervisor that wants to be a state senator. We seem him on prop 61. Why dont you talk about that. He is here for 61 because he feels that this is another example of something that a progressive should be pushing. I think in the same way hes here to support jane kim. He was in a tight race with supervisor scott wiener. Maybe its too close to call. The hope is that this will push both of them over where they need to go. I should say, however, that his presence to support 61 is nice but i think 61 in San Francisco is bound to pass anyway he because of the progressive nature of the. At the same time i think it would help kim and what would be a tight race. One of the things we find interesting about him thing here as well as his influence, it doesnt just extended to a Ballot Initiative and to her candidacy but also across the bay to oakland. Both San Francisco and oakland have soda tax measures on the ballot senator sanders words are the most influential in opposition to the soda tax. I brought in one of the thousands of mailers ive gotten on this. The people who are opposed to this are funded by big Soda Companies have managed to persuade and perhaps fund the advertising of lots of local grocers and oakland they do the same thing as San Francisco who said this is not a soda tax. It is a grocery tax. The cost of this will be passed on. They argue as well that it doesnt have an impact. They quote senator sanders who earlier this year looked at a similar measure when he was in the race for president in philadelphia. He said that that was the most progressive tax. In fact, dqwell him in this and they said, sanders, said, quote an aggressive grocery tax with this proportionally affect low income and middleclass americans. That has made that into the brush were in california. Heres the funny part about that. I dont know that sanders gave permission but these kinds of printers which you get every day if you live in oakland or San Francisco, into got them last year in berkeley, they were funded by large corporations that make coca cola and pepsi cola. That is his whole platform, against corporate america. They are using the words of the progressive to oppose this. The other thing thats interesting is the philadelphia ballot measure that he commented on imposed a three cent per ounce tax on soda. In philadelphia or it would have. The one in oakland is actually one sent per ounce which means it is one third the progressive nature of this. I doubt he has read the ballot measures in california. It will be interesting to see how he addresses that. I want to get to the president ial discussion. Its been an interesting and a big week. We seem trump trying to come back. Clintons campaign is doing Something Interesting in the wake of these things. Mr. Trump is in freefall at this point in typical of his nature he cannot let go of this and move on to other issues. At this point mrs. Clinton, who is, i think, probably going to seeded the pursuit of millennial voters to Michelle Obama at this point. She has a better chance of swaying those voters. She wants to go after white, male Republican Voters who have a College Degree. The College Degree part is the big hope. Many may have families of their own. And are feeling a bit ashamed. So he is doing outrage to those individuals through advertising and speeches and canvassing in battleground states. I think the strategy is if shes not going to pull the millennials back in to guarantee the extra push and she needs to get over 50 , i think inside the campaign they believe these white male voters who are College Educated may switch. And in this election they might vote for her. They wont always do it. What about the enthusiasm factor . It seems like trump had 10,000 people showing up for rallies that is starting to fade a little bit. It is. A recent fox pulled just a day ago measured that there was slippage between College Educated supporters of trump in the republican party. They also found that the enthusiasm factor dropped about six points. That is large. I believe people are very much a demoralized by the fact that the stench, if you like, of the tape and these women coming forward has lingered and it is snowballing and away. I think its very destructive for his campaign. 26 days away. When i talk to a lot of voters i ask them if they have decided. They all say yes. Thats here in the bay area. Thanks for joining us. Up next, more on how you can raise awareness every day just by hitting the road. A group of women is making sure to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and Early Detection. This will be a yearlong effort and they are hoping to do it with a special pink license plate. Its been going on for years. The next several months will determine whether or not this idea becomes a reality. Joining us now is heather. One of the women behind the effort. Lets talk about this effort. Pink plate its as Early Detection saves lives. Whats the idea behind it . This is to raise awareness for Early Detection. And also we want someone to be reminded 3265 days a year across the roads of california. It gives people an opportunity to talk about bringing awareness to Breast Cancer. It starts a conversation. A get someone to say, hey, this is what we need to know. Exactly. That is the goal. We also want to bring awareness to the everywoman Counts Program which is what the proceeds go to. It gives free clinical mammograms to people who cant afford them. The money goes to a good cause as well. Getting here hasnt been easy. You have to go to the legislature. Its been years. Its been a long haul. At least four years. I want to talk about the people behind it. We talk to you and another woman and its very personal. What does it mean for you, for people who dont understand stage iv Breast Cancer. Stage 4 means it has spread beyond the breast and that basically i will live with cancer for the rest of my life. Every year i go back for a screening and hope that it hasnt come back. Ive had two relapses in the last four years. At something that i will live with for the rest of my life. Thats why this is such a huge part of my life and a goal for us to get this on the road. Talk about your detection story and what you saw and why you feel Early Detection is important. You were young and it wasnt on your radar. I was 36 when i was diagnosed. I did not find a lump. I found what is called dimpling. I did not think cancer are to go to the doctor. I waited about three months and by then i did find a lump and it was a huge mass. At that point it was too late and had already spread. Thats why Early Detection is so important. In the conversation to say i know you are young and you dont have a history. But get it checked out. You said if you had seen a license plate maybe you would have double checked. As a reminder. Even for women over the age of 40 and they tend to forget to not schedule mammograms. This could be a reminder that its time to do that. Lets talk about the effort you have a website. There is an issue. The lawmakers say you can have this plate but you have to get preorders and guarantee that you will have a certain number of preorders. Correct. Right now we have over 3800 but we need to 7500 by next year otherwise the dmv will not produce the plates. For people have nsync they want that you need to do it early art will go away. There it is on your screen, what the plates look like. You can get a personalized you could have sequential. You do have a choice. And it is pretty easy if you want to get on their go to pinkplate. Org. Order your plate. Get it done and you will get those later on down the road. Thanks for coming in.
