At one crimes in the killer gunned down a woman in bed while her four day old baby slept inside her. The shooter spared the lives of that baby and other small children in the family. Investigators are talking to the relatives of the victims to find out who might be responsible for the attack and white the family was targeted. A jury sentenced bernie tita and 99 to life in prison yesterday following a new sentencing hearing for his 99 conviction of the killing of marjorie nugent. A car hit a 14yearold and 16 yearold in a crosswalk at the highway 4 westbound onramp. Teens and another person were taken to the hospital. Fortunately all had nonlife threatening injuries. It is believe a third person was riding inside the car. We are trying to confirm or report that a second car was involved in the crash. New overnight police are looking for a 14yearold who took a car for a joyride and lead police on a highspeed chase. An officer tried to stop the driver on southwest boulevard at 1 40 a. M. The teen lead police on a chase at speeds over 90 Miles Per Hour before losing control and running off the road their highway 101. The car hit a road sign. A 14 yearold jumped out. Police set up a perimeter but never tracked the teen down. It is not clear what caused a 2 until bart train to go off the tracks. The train was on a test track at south wayward station and union city. It ended up in a mound of did. This happened before 2 00 yesterday afternoon. That area designed to stop reason away cars. Only bart employees were on board at the time. No one was hurt. The new train was going 10 Miles Per Hour. We were training our new train operators on them. I want to talk about the new policy the Police Department is going to have where they are putting out the allegations of misconduct from the Police Department. What are your thoughts . It is incredibly important right now that we rebuild trust with our community. Part of that is not just transparency but proactive communication. We need our citizens to know we are doing everything to ensure that we practice principled policing. That means not just abiding by the minimal laws but going above and beyond to ensure our residents that everything is fair. That officers that are not suited for this job are removed or receive the training they need. Thats part of this new policy. A lot of people dont know this wasnt something spontaneously that the Police Department did. Oakland has been a mutually agreed set of reforms as part of settling a case 13 years ago. We find ourselves in a time where the entire country is looking to reform policing and make it transparent. Youll release twice a year of what is going on. You are not releasing officers names because of confidentiality issues. Do you think the public will feel they are getting a glimpse on the inside but they wont directly know who is happening . Do you think this will work . That is a law we are bound by. There are certain situations in which we are allowed to release officer names. We do that when we are allowed to. What is new about this, the Police Department has been making this information available. But on its website. What is new about this is that the mayor is going to be compiling an easy to understand report that puts this information out twice a year for the public to understand and lets them know everything we are doing to prevent misconduct from happening in the first place. New developments in the highprofile case of missing teenager. The man accused of killing her defied his attorneys and demanded a speedy trial. Reporter it has more more than four years since the 15 yearold disappeared in march of 2012. Authorities arrested anton torres two months after the teen vanished on her way to school. Every since her family has been waiting for justice. It hasnt been fair since the beginning. Nothing about this has been fair. Reporter on friday, despite objections from his lawyers he told a judge he wanted to stand trial within 60 days exercising his constitutional right for a speedy trial. What he is saying is im tired of waiting. I want my day in court. Ill ready for trial. It is up to his lawyers to convince the judge if they are ready for a trial. Reporter the trial likely may not start monday and may not start before the 60 somedays are up on june 20th since the attorneys told the judge they are not ready. Public defenders may be tied up with other murder cases and can be in two places at once. This is going to be the highest profile case in the bay area since the Scott Peterson case. It is important things are done right. That it is done efficiently but done fairly. Reporter her body has never been found. Prosecutors say her dna was found in her car and her dna was found on clothing thrown in a field near where she disappeared. Difference there is no body or crime scene testimony from dna and Forensic Experts will be critical. Her father is optimistic and hopeful the case will move forward. Sunny Dale Community services is tasked with finding new place for them to live. In a hot rental market low income units are virtually non existant. A lot of families, who are on fixed incomes, well have a harder time moving them. They have found homes for 11 families so far. The rest are staying in motels. Sunny dale has enough funding to last the residents through the end of the month. They are hoping landlords will step forward and offer help. A gofundme page has been set up for all those victims. Local and state Law Enforcement are banning together to stop the recent spree of east bay highway shootings. The most recent shooting happened on tuesday and claimed the life of a 28yearold man driving on highway 4 in pittsburg. Coming up. We just received new information about the crash in pittsburg overnight. A car hit a 14yearold and 16 yearold in a crosswalk at the highway 4 westbound onramp. Teens and another person were taken to the hospital. Fortunately all had nonlife threatening injuries. It is believed a third person was riding inside the car. We are trying to confirm or report that a second car was involved in the crash. It is not clear what caused a 2 until bart train to go off the tracks. The train was on a test track at south wayward station and union city. It ended up in a mound of did. Of sand designed to stop the run away cars. This happened before 2 00 yesterday afternoon. Only bart employees were on board at the time. No one was hurt. The new train was going 10 Miles Per Hour. We were training our new train operators on them. It is not clear if it was operator error or mechanical failure. Or a combination of the two. It is part of a fleet expected to go in service in december. This is the latest in a series of train, rail and infrastructure problems with bart. Issues with the bart car wont cause problem for riders this morning. There is track maintenance going on. Which means Service Disruptions in the east bay. Bart is doing track repair and other Maintenance Work along the fremont line. Bart says riders can expect delays 30 30 minutes to an hour during the closure. Lights inside the tunnel could be turned back on after a crash left drivers in the dark. It happened on hyde street near court land avenue. The fire reported just before 7 00 this morning. As you can see firefighters on the right side of the screen using a ladder to rescue a resident from the second floor. Look at that video. You can see the person literally climbing out of the window to get to safety as firefighters douse those flames. Very scary moments. That person taken down the ladder. You can see two firefighters working to rescue the person. What incredible video that we have for you this morning. That person was taken to the hospital. There was lots of fire and smoke damage to the home. When we did check in a short time ago we could see the fire was out. Crews remaining on scene. They are looking into a cause. New developments in the highprofile case of missing teenager. The man accused of killing her defied his attorneys and demanded a speedy trial. It has been more than four years since the 15yearold disappeared. Authorities arrested anton torres two months after the teen vanished on her way to school. He told the judge he wants to stand trial in 60 days. His own attorneys told the judge they are not ready. We need answers. Not knowing what happened is one of the worse things to deal with. On monday a judge should decide when the trial will actually start. Her family plans to be in the courtroom. It has been two weeks. I understand people move on with their lives. I still think there is a chance she is out there. She was last seen at the oakland apartment of her one time babysitter. The mother let her child stay there while she tried to save money to get her own place. A man faces charges in thathitandrun case in oakland. He crashed his car into an unmarked car driven by a Police Captain. Police say the unlicensed driver got out of the car after the crash, checked out the damage, got back in the car and drove off. A witness got the license plate number and Police Caught him minutes later and he was taken into custody. Local and state Law Enforcement are banning together to stop recent bay highway shootings. The most recent shooting happened on tuesday and claimed the life of a 28yearold man driving on highway 4 in pittsburg. Chp and Contra Costa Sheriffs Office are among 18 Law Enforcement agencies addressing this issue. Investigators believe the shootings are gangrelated. South central ohio is on high alert as authorities look for whoever shot and killed eight people executionstyle. The victims were all part of a family. Shootings occurred in four locations. In one crime scene the killer gunned down a woman in bed while her 4dayold baby slept beside her. Investigators are talking to relatives of the victims to figure out two is responsible for the attack. Police in georgia say a domestic dispute was motive for a shooting that left five people dead. Three men and two women were found shot to death in two different crime scenes in columbia county. The body of the alleged gunman was found dead in his home early this morning. Apparently from a self inflicted gunshot. He knew all the victims and some of his wifes family members were among those killed. It took two years but guess what .
