Concord down by five and livermore down by one. We have still air in place. Calm conditions and because of it were chillier in areas like concord, youre freezing at 32 degrees. Ill show you that in the extended forecast coming up. Well theres a developing story in palo alto where there are two separate investigations into a deadly officer involved shooting christmas night. Officers shot a man they say came to them with a knife. Christien kafton joins us now from the neighborhood to east of 101. I understand police wrapped up their initial investigation of the scene. Yeah, good morning. When we first arrived here right around 6 00 this morning. The whole scene was taped off in just the last five hours. Palo alto police have cleared the scene. That initial investigation now complete into this officer involved shooting. It all began 9 15 last night on Christmas Day. Police released the statement saying they were called here to the 600 block of forest avenue. The official reports came in that a resident tried to hurt another person. The suspect charged with them with a knife and at least one officer opened fire. That suspect was hit at least once and taken to the area hospital but died from their injuries. Police are not releasing any information about that suspect. Not even their gender or age. But they say theyre conducting a parallel investigation with the District Attorneys Office to make sure a thorough investigation is completed. Were always concerned about an officer involved shooting. It typically involves our officer so we want to make sure we want to be very thorough. No officers were injured in this incident. No word on how many officers were involved. Officers now have released this scene following last nights officer involved shooting, claudine. Thank you for that update, well check in in just a bit. What started as an officer involved shooting is now turning into a Homicide Investigation. Officers found a body in the back of a uhaul truck. Earlier Christmas Morning police tried to question that man, police say there was a scuffle. The man refused to put his hands up. Reached for a gun then fired several times at officers. One officer was hit in the arm. Another officer fired back, wounding the suspect. And a teen who lives near by says he heard that gunfire and tried to help. Across the street to help the officer, he got shot. And i told the officer, to put his hand on the wound. My dad tried to put a glove on to try to help him. Reporter Police Identified 27yearold charles gettings. They say he was on probation for drug charges. The gun they found on him was stolen and that he had a backpack with a bb gun, ski mask and burglary tools inside. The officer who was hit was treated and released. Had surgery and last word he was in stable condition. A task force in san yo se county is teaming up with police tonight to look for san jose county is teaming up with police tonight in a dui checkpoint. We should mention for folks too that it is zero percent contained and just learned that chp shut down part of the pacific highway. Keeping you with fox 2 Christien Kafton with what we learned so far. Good morning, when we arrived here at 6 00 this morning this was still an active investigation. That gives you a sense just how indepth and lengthy investigation is. The initial investigation completed this time again this whole incident unfolding on Christmas Day. Police released a statement saying they were called here to the 600 block of forest avenue last night. The initial report came in that a person at the residence wanted to hurt another person. Officers arrived on scene and say the suspect charged them. Our officers were dispatched and our preliminary investigation indicates that very shortly after the officers arrived on scene, a single suspect charged at the officers while holding a knife. Reporter at least one Palo Alto Police officer opened fire. The suspect was hit at least once and taken to an area hospital but died from their injuries. Now at this time, police are not releasing any information about the suspect. I did try to call them this morning and they said at this point theyre not really seeing information about this suspect. Not even the gender or age of that suspect. The Palo Alto Police is running an investigation to see that theres a full investigation. No officers were injured in this incident and typically after an officer involved shooting those officers are put on paid administrative leave. Back to you guys. Thanks for the update, christien. This morning, a fire heavily damaged a health care center. Several Fire Agencies were there to help put out the blaze which they were about to contain by 4 30. But then with all the damage clients are going to have to look elsewhere for medical care. The next one is in occidental. Its got pretty good clientele and theres going to be a lot of people needing the services. Firefighters tried to take as many computers and medication as they could. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Cheer leaders in california are rooting for their new rights under a new state law. Instead of contract workers they will soon be recognized as employees of the team. A move that will provide more respect. Californias professional cheer leaders have to put in long hours, stay in shape and look good. If you get behind the wheel well intoxicated. Youre going to run the risk of hurting yourself or hurting others. For you guys its all hands on deck. We got everyone out there. Making more traffic stops, our maximum enforcement period started Christmas Eve at 6 00 p. M. From Christmas Eve at 6 00 p. M. Until midnight. Right at the start of christmas we had over 150 dui arrests just by chp officers. 150 people that never opened their presents because they were sitting in a jail cell. How many people are traveling. Do you think people are more irresponsible this time of year. Its going to make sense that there will be more dui drivers as well. Today is going to feel a lot like yesterday. I will step out of the way and show you these numbers. 53 expected this afternoon for sanfrancisco as we shift in the south bay, we have 52 expected for you and into the north bay. 52 forsanta rosa and 51 in napa. Today, a little cooler. It is going to happen on sunday, a little snow. Iwill detail it and the extended forecast in just a little bit. We have breaking news that we want to talk to you about. We are watching this brush fire countythat shuts down part of highway 101. You can checkout these pictures of a lot of white smoke coming in the area, thats a good sign because that usually means that firefighters are getting ahead of this thing. We know that this fire has burned 1100 acres since it started last night near santa brash bra barbara. Yousee these pictures and you see how hot it is burning, 35 homes and this morning, we are learning about this. Thats right, and the wind definitely driving this fire. We got winds gusting up to 50 Miles Per Hour. The winds are expected to lightening up some. Yeah, we are talking about the white smoke, this is the black smoke that we dont like. Fire crews,what we think theyre trying to do, the fire line, they try to blaze that ground under it and bull dose it and sends it on the machinery so fire cannot jump the line e. You can see the flames kind of lapping over the side of that hillside and what happens is that once it jumps that ridge, it keeps ongoing. Now, the last where we got was it was zero paers percent contained. And you got these winds and you can actually, if you Pay Attention to the smoke, you can see how the winds are blowing. Winds are shifting just a little bit yesterday from north, shipping northeast so that shift will help out just a little bit. The windwont be blowing straight down onto the fire but in any case, the winds letting up some but continuing at least through tomorrow. Again, watch those flames by the fire line, we hope000 at least one officer opened fire. Now, at this time, police are being very close about this. They are conducting a parallel investigation withthe das office to make sure a thorough investigation is completed. We are always concerned 06 an ed about an officer involved shooting. We take all these seriously and thats why we are being thorough and why we work with the districts office. Reporter no word on how many officers fired their weapons. Earlier Christmas Morning, police tried to question that man and they said there was a scuffle when the man refused to put his arms up and reached for a gun and fired at the officer. Police have identifyied the 27 years old. The gun theyfound on him was stolen. He had a backpack with a bb gun and burglar tools inside of it. The officer is getting treated. Check out these pictures from over head, you can see that fire as it continues to spread. It is having aneffect on traffic in the area. You have highway 101. Parts of it is shut down. That fire is zero percent contained, it started last night near Santa Barbara. Youcan see how close that fire came to the road way when we talk about them having to shut down certain parts of the highway so they could fight the fire. That video is a goodexample of why. We do see some white smoke and fire crews trying to create that fire line from keeping it from spreading. 500 firefighters are on the scene. There areabout 35 homes that are threatened and mandatory evacuations order have been issued. You take a look atthat area where it is not decemberly populated. It isfairly near the coast. Again, there are some homes and there is a good live look from some of the staging areas. They post all the fire crews and everyone out there. Justin Railroad Activities are in that area being halted because of the fire. Thats good for folks to know if they are headed down to that area. Yes, it is, burning out of control right now, zero percent containment and hundreds of firefighters out there. Gusty winds looked like there willbe an issue. Looks like the area we are looking at right now maybe a Little Pocket and it is not blowing as well. We certainly have our thoughts and the firefighters hope they can get in front of this thing very soon. To a developing story back in the area. Palo pintopolice receiving a person wanting to hurt someone. Officers when they arrived at the scene a male suspect charged at them. Police say they feared for their live and opened fire. The suspect was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Our investigators will be working on alongside to investigate on the das office. We have seen fire crews staging all morning and we have learned Railroad Activity in the area have been horticultured because halted because of fire danger. The chp has shut down parts of Pacific Coast highway and Railroad Activity in the area has been halted because of the fire danger and the gusty winds continue but not as night as in the overnight hours. Weve seen a lot of heavy machinery as fire crews try to get around the brush fire and create a fire line so that it cant get out of the space. Thats an area thats hard for firefighters to get in. Youre just trying to create a big space to keep it from moving further. The roadway is empty. And 101 down there and they are trying to get a handle on the fire. The good news is were looking at it from overhead and you talked about the winds dying down and changing directions and doing things a little different. In memphis, it created quite a backlog. Angry customers went to social media. Rival ups says operations have been running smoothly but some packages were delayed on Christmas Day. In Palo Alto Police shot a suspect who allegedly came at them with a knife. We have a live report from outside the home good morning. This was a Major Incident here in palo alto. When we arrived at 6 00, the Police Officers were still here. The incident happened at 9 15. That should give you a sense of how long the initial investigation took. Neighbors are coming out to examine the scene. All of this happened around 9 15 last night. And that was Christmas Day. Police released a statement saying they were called to the 600 block of forest avenue. And the initial report came in that a person at the residence wanted to hurt another person. Officers arrived on scene and the suspect charged them. Our officers were dispatched and the preliminary investigation indicates that very shortly after the officers arrived on scene, a single suspect charged at the officers while holding a knife. At least one Palo Alto Police officer opened fire. The suspect was hit and taken to the hospital and died from the injuries. Palo alto police are releasing few details about the suspect, not even the gender or age. They are conducting a parallel investigation with the District Attorneys Office to make sure that a thorough investigation is completed. Palo alto police say no officers were injured and no word on how many fired their weapons. Typically, they are put on paid administrative leave after a shooting. We had a chance to speak with one neighbor and they heard at least four shots in fairly rapid succession. A lot of people in the neighborhood had no idea what happened overnight and were shocked to learn about the officer involved shooting overnight on Christmas Day. Thanks, christian, for that report. We appreciate it. A developing story out of hayward. What started as an officer involved shooting appears to be connected to a Homicide Investigation. A body was found in the back of a uhaul truck being pushed through the parking garage. Earlier Christmas Morning, police tried to question the man. Police say there was a scuffle and the man refused to hut his arms up. Reached for a gun and fired several times at officers. One officer was hit in the arm and another officer fired back, wounding the suspect. A teen who lives nearby heard the gunfire and tried to help. Across the street to help the officer when he got shop. And i told the officer to tie his to stop the bleeding. [ indiscernible ] my dad put a glove on and tried to help him. Reporter police have identified the suspect as charles gedding. He was on probation for burglary and drug charges and the gun on him was stolen and he had a backpack with a bee bee gun, ski mask and burglary tools. The officer who was hit was treated and released and hes in stable condition. A task force in San Mateo County is teaming up to look for the drunk drivers. Therell be a check point from 8 p. M. To 2 30 in the morning. The check points lowers the number of People Killed or hurt in alcohol or drug related crashes. Earlier this morning we showed you what it looks like. And the Public Information officer from the Ventura CountyFire Department tweeting that 101 remains closed in both directions and advising people to use caution on 150. And theres heavy traffic. 600 firefighters are on the scene. And four fixed wing tankers were ordered to try to help. You have the heavy machinery and bulldozers trying to create a fire line. 35 homes are under mandatory evacuations right now. And it grew so quickly due to the winds. The wind gusts 50 Miles Per Hour reported at times. And once youre inside the canyons they create their own wind and it really was moving in the overnight hours. This morning, the wind still there. And the wind is shifting just a little bit. And the wind coming down just some. And thats going to help the firefighters out there. You can see from this view here, the winds still whipping the fire and blowing the smoke. It was 900 acres and 300 acres increasing in size in just the last few hours. And thats usually what happens. The fire starts to move. There are some Railroad Traffic in and out of the area thats been affected by this. So if youre headed down and you have family members, at least that part, 101, Pacific Coast highway, all affected and everyone trying to get in front of the fire. Highway 101 and i5 and the other surrounding freeways will be impacted with folks being forced to get around it. Search operations are being stepped up at airports across the country.
