Us. Lets talk about some of that lightning that was active in the overnight hours. I want to give you a look at what is going on out there this morning. Starting out with storm tracker. This is actually a 12hour time lapse for you here. Notice when the activity rolls through in the overnight hours and moved through the east bay and continued in this direction. Some areas like napa reported. 2 of an inch of rain. The areas around concord, clayton, and fairfield. Getting rain here as well and just this band that rolled through. It was between midnight and 2 in the morning when that lightning fired off. I will remove the radar. You can see a fairly active move through the overnight hours and this system now, moving south over Southern California and backing it up to show you a threehour time lapse. And you can see how its shifted to the south. The center of the system is into the areas around monterey and this is moving out of the way. I again, i think that activity is pretty much done and were not finished with the winds that come with the system as well and we have a red flag warning and includes the north bay hills and east bay hills. It was really windy for some, especially along the peninsula and along the coast yesterday. Temperaturewise in the 50s, 55 right now in San Francisco; 53, walnut creek and low 50s in livermore. We have a slight warmup with mostly sunny skies and lighter winds in store for the afternoon. I will detail that and the week ahead coming up in the extended forecast. Back to you. Thank you, rosemary. This morning, Hurricane Joaquin is hundreds of miles off of the coast. The moisture its pumping in leading to record rains and flooding. Five people are dead along the east coast from a separate storm system there. And much of the torrential rainfall has been centered in the carolinas. The coastal communities as far as new jersey are bailing out. President obama has new declared a state of emergency in South Carolina and has ordered federal authorities to step in and help. The National Weather service said that joaquin is bearing down and this is a map. You can look at it. This is the bermuda area and you can see the that joaquin is here off of the coast and theyre expecting the system to get stronger by the afternoon. The wind gusts have reached up to 120 Miles Per Hour as joaquin moves along the northeast. You see the track right here where its going. Now, the center of the storm will not go over bermuda and that is what were hearing. It will pass to the west of a category 2 storm. And now, lets look at this video. People on the east coast are dealing with heavy rain as you can see. And in new jersey, theyre filling up sandbags and other parts of the state. There are memories of images of devastation from super storm sandy. One of the biggest problems we have is that people fixed their house up. I bought a generator after sandy. I have gas reid to go in the generator. Joaquin will stay away from the east coast. Again, the moisture is pumping in and making storms along the coast much worse. And still developing this morning, rescuers have found a life preserver but little else from a missing cargo ship in the atlantic and this is where all of this is happening this morning and there is miami for your Reference Point and theyre looking in the bahamas. And this is about 75 miles north of the storm. And there were 33 crew members on board and mostly american when is it vanished. The coast guard said the ship was asking for help. It was in danger of flipping over in the waters as the hurricane passed it. And were going to continue proving probing the hurricane as best we can to try and get close to the last known position of the vessel and see if we can find it. That life preserver was found 75 miles northeast of the ships last known location. And were also developing a boater still missing this morning in an East Bay Lake after an elaborate search. He was one of eight people at the lake when it started taking on water. Seven got ashore safely. And everyone went into the water. And swam toward the shore line. And it was not until later they realized one person was missing. And that search started on friday night. Continuing all day yesterday with no luck and were told the boat was designed to carry four to six people and that no one was wearing a life vest. And were learning the umpqua shooter had one more gun as part of the arsenal and that he allowed one man to survive, calling him the lucky one and yesterday, witnesses to the shooting and friends of the victims gathered to talk about what they saw and how theyre feeling. The mother of one said her daughter survived by playing dead and encouraged another student to lay still as well and that her daughters fast thinking likely saved both of well lives their lives. And my daughter is strong and shes going to get through this. Reporter authorities are confirming this morning that the gunman, 26yearold Chris Harper Mercer took his own life and his motive is unclear. The fbi is s behavioral analyst team arrived on the scene and will assist with know hadding us to understand the why of this event. Police new say the shooter had 14 guns and took six of them to campus. The father is now pushing for new gun control legislation. There will be a vigil in san mateo and to speak out against gun violence and go to our website, ktvu. Com. And authorities in Tuolumne County arrested four High School Students for planning a mass shooting other students overheard the plot last week and alerted school staff who called law enforcement. The deputies uncovered did tailed plans about staff and students the group allegedly wanted to kill and how they were going to do it. The four confessed to planning the killings. And parents and students were shaken by the news. Shes scared to go to school. She said, mom, i dont want to go to school. I am scared. What do you tell her . You be safe . What you said about coming close to it like that worries me a lot and that can happen any day. You never know its just scary. Right now, the four are being held as juveniles and face charges of conspiracy. Breaking news out of washington this morning. We learned that republican representative jason chavez is running to be House Speaker. Political reports that the republican from utah is preparing to take on house major leader Kevin Mccarthy of california. Chavez is currently chairman of the House Committee on oversight and government reform and first elected to damage seven years ago. And running for House Speaker would be a longshot. As youre watching the movie, they jump back and forth between matt damon, the actual crew going back to earth and nasa on earth. Its perfectly timed. They have four cameras. Matt damon was saying at time shooting him while shooting the scenes in budapest for mars. The sound track is fantastic and the pacing. I give it a 4 1 2 out of five. The man was part of a Team Building workshop for a sales force. Com and disappeared friday night. He was on a small fishing boat that sank and didnt make it to shore. The u. S. Coast guard and navy are continuing their search for a missing cargo ship. One life preserver from the ship is found and there is no other signs. I will have in on what to expect coming up. And there is i developing story. A man is behind bars after being arrested with the deaths of two people. The twoyearold robles was taken into custody in guadalajara, mexico, along with his girlfriend. He was one of the gunmen who shot and killed a rival gang member in watsonville last october. A stray bullet killed the four yearold jaylen duvall. They tracked him down after getting a tip from someone who saw the fbis reward on facebook. Both are being held in the Santa Cruz County jail. And police in fremont are looking for a man who police say brutally killed his mother inside her apartment this week. Investigators are searching for 31yearold omar petagan. He killed his mother in a particularly violent manner and did nots give specifics. The woman was found dead on today morning on monroe avenue near fremont boulevard. He could be in oakland or berkeley and hey have access to guns. Martinez Police Arrested a elderly woman in a hitandrun crash that injured another man in a wheelchair. The 76yearold irene wong hit the man at the intersection of alhambra avenue and Virginia Hills drive. The am have was taken to the hospital in critical condition. And officers used information to locate wong and that heres cooperating and that alcohol didnt doesnt appear to be a doesnt appear to be a factor. An update to a story we brought you at 10, an elderly woman with dementia considered to be at risk is found safe. Menlo park police were able to locate the 79yearold gloria garcia. She went missing yesterday on crane street. Garcias in good health this morning and is back at home. And this weekend,mas the 20th anniversary of the o. J. Simpson verdict. We the jury in the above entitled action find the defendant not guilty of the crime of murder. More than 150 Million Viewers were glued to their the hes when he was found not guilty of murdering his exwife Nicole Simpson and her boyfriend. The family filed a civil suit against him and awarded more than 33 million but they have only seen a small amount of the mean. The judge in the case spoke little since the trial. Prosecutor marcia clark brights books and simpsons attorney Johnny Cochran died of of a brain tumor in 2005. And police have made a second arrest in the murderfor here shooting death of a pediatric dentist. The Police Charged 31yearold Christopher Love with killing the doctor in the garage of her apartment complex last month. 23yearold crystal cortes was arrested on suspicion of driving love to hatchers apartment. The police are still looking for 33yearold Brenda Delgado who is accused of hiring him to kill hatcher. Love is being held on a 2. 5 million bond. When mr. Love was arrested, he was found in possession of the weapon believed to have been used to kill dr. Hatcher. Hatcher was dating delgados exboyfriend and a warrant is issued for her arrest. This morning, the investigation continuing into the bombing of the hospital in afghanistan run by the Charity GroupDoctors Without Borders. At least 19 people died, including 12 Staff Members and three children. What appears to be an airstrike by the u. S. Military. Afghan Officials Say helicopters may have been retaliating for gunfire from taliban fighters hiding in the hospital. A fox news military analyst said this might be the result of inadequate training of afghan soldiers. And it was not an overt attempt by the United States to bomb a hospital. Of course not. If you dont have reliable people on the ground to spot for the bombs, eventually the bombs are going to go where they shouldnt. And Doctors Without Borders said everyone involved in the conflict in afghanistan had the gps coordinates for the hospital and in ku in, duz. The medical group completely withdrew from that city. The pin plans to send pentagon plans to send a team to chicago to relocate terrorist suspects from guantanamo bay. Theyre retaining 100 suspected terrorists there. And dozens of students are recovering after a roof collapse at a North Carolina high school. We want to start with breaking news out of south san jose and this is a strip mall and happened around 3 00 this morning. The fire crews got that fire out about an hour ago and they did have to call in four trucks to get that done. Fortunately, no reports of any injuries. And turning to the weather, we have a big weather happening all along the eastern seaboard and our weather here. And they continue to get hammered, a half an inch to 2 1 2 inches 2 1 2 inches and there is no relief in sight and were improving through the morning hours. The winds calming down and a chance of rain and the thunderstorms moving out of the area and that is great news with the fire danger concerns and were waking up with parly cloudy and mostly clear skies partly cloudy and mostly clear skies. And why it goes back to midnight and the current timing and that is a narrow band moving through and that happened through midnight and 00. We have the rain moving through the Central Valley and stretched into the delta, past fairfield and into areas like san raphael reporting. 01 of an inch of rain and napped reported. 2 of an inch napa reported. 2 of an inch of rain. In between, thunderstorms and if i remove the rain, you can see all of those lightning strikes that lit up the sky. And people this morning, hur wayne cauceen is hundreds joaquin is hundreds of miles off of the coast. The moisture its pumping in is leading to record rain and flooding. Five people are dead along the east coast from a separate storm there. President obama declared a state of emergency in South Carolina and offered federal authorities to come is the then and help. Night is the National Weather service said that joaquin is bearing down on bermuda. We put this map here to give you a look and this is far out east in the atlantic and they say that this is all expected to get stronger by this afternoon. And the good news, you can see joaquin on a northeasterly track and moving farther away from the eastern seaboard. The wind gusts reached 120 Miles Per Hour and that is says joaquin moves along the ocean there. The center of the storm wont go over bermuda directly but will pass a category 2 storm. And people dealing with that heavy rain and you talked about new jersey. Theyre filling up sand bags there in other parts of the state and they harkening back to the images and the devastation they endured from super storm sandy. One of the biggest problems is that people fixed their house up. I bought a generator after sandy. I have gas in the generator ready to go. Joaquin will stay away from the east coast and that moisture is making storms along the east coast worst. And rescuers found a life preserver and really, they havent found anything else. The missing cargo ship in the atlantic right now. And this morning, the search continues. Theyre actually looking near the bahamas and that was the last known location of the ship and this here is somewhere between florida over here and puerto rico. About 75 miles away and when it was happening. There are 33 crew members on board and most are americans. One advantage, there was a distress call out. The coast guard said the ship was asking for help because it was in danger of flipping over and that is as the hurricane was passing. And were going to continue probing the hurricane as best we can with our aircraft to try to get close to the vessels last known position and see if we can find it. That life preserver was found 75 miles northeast of the ships last known position. And developing this morning, a boater is still missing at an East Bay Lake heave one of the eight people on board the lake when it started taking on water and seven of the people got ashore safely. And everyone went into the water and swam toward the shoreline. It was not until later that they realized that one person was missing. The search started friday night and continued all day yesterday with no luck. The boat was designed to carry four to six people and police say that no one was wearing a life vest. And in oregon, were learning the Umpqua Community shooter had one more gun as part of the arsenal and that witnesses said he allowed one man to survive calling him a lucky one, giving him a message to deliver to authorities. Witnesses to the shooting and friends of the victim gathered yesterday to talk about what they saw and how theyre now feeling. The mother of one victim said her daughter survived by playing dead and she also encouraged another student to lay still and that mother said the daughters fast thinking likely saved both of their lives. My daughters very strong and shell get through this. Well, authorities are confirming this morning the gunman, 26yearold Chris Harper Mercer, did take his own l. His motive is still unclear. The fbis behavioral analyst team arrived on the scene and will assist with helping us to understand the why of this event. Again, were learning about one more gun this morning. The police say the shooter had in all 14 guns and took six of them to the campus and his father is now pushing for a new gun control legislation and back at home, there is going to be a vigil in san mateo for the victims and to speak out against gun violence. The county sheriff said that other students overheard the plot last week at Sommerville High School and alerted school staff who called law enforcement. Deputies say that they uncovered detailed plans about staff and students that the group allegedly wanted to kill and how they were going to do it. The sheriff said the four confessed and parents and students were understandably shaken by the news. And i thought she was safe. Shes scared to go to school and she said, mom, i dont want to go to school. I am scared. What do you tell her . You be safe. What you said about then coming close to it, like that worries me a lot. Like it can happen any day. You never know. There has been so many incidents recently that its just scary. Theyre currently held as juveniles and face charges of conspiracy. E. Two south bay groups are working iting the to help victims of the butte fire. Troupe 92 of the boy scouts and Mount Olive Lutheran Church are asking the community to donate emergency supplies. Theyre looking for shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows to help them clear the damaged properties in Calaveras County and they want food, tents, sleeping bags, blankets and clothing, as well as boxes, tapes, and markers for volunteers to help pack up donated items more quickly. Donations are collected at the mount olive churchs parking lot in milpitas at 11 00 this morning and that is until 3. And a Southern California man seen running naked and covered in blood is arrested on suspicion of killing a woman. The 22yearold Victor Sanchez was running to the Mobile Home Park yesterday when he was hit by a car and when deputies arrived, they realized he was not the man they were looking for. He lives in the same Mobile Home Park where the woman was found and investigators have not said show he how she died. And out of washington, breaking news. We learned that jason chavez is running to be House Speaker. The republican from utah is preparing to take on House Majority leader Kevin Mccarthy of california. Chavez is currently chairman of the House Committee on oversight and government reform and he was the first elected, first elected to congress seven years ago. The political observers say running for House Speaker would be a longshot for chavez. Mccarthy is considered the favorite. The big part is what you eat it in, right . The bread . And bread is cheap. Freshly made. Its sweet . A little and sweetness in it, not overpowering and there is a touch of sweetness. Can i try one . Absolutely. I have been smelling this the last 20 minutes or so and curious to see what it tastes like. There is a char there on each end. Keep the juices flowing. When you bite into this. All right. Apparently, hoppy beer goes with sausage. And a brautwurst, sweeter, you want a amber logger. That is amber lauger. And now that this cooled off, i will try and bite into it. Is there a way to eat it . Absolutely. If you dont mind . Yeah. And well the mia hold this for you. Okay. What you will have to do . You have to do the ark. Okay. And bite into it. Really flavorful. And making sure its charred there. When you do it at home, charred on both ends. Yeah, and its got like a smoky you feel the spice afterwards. You do . That is delicious. I am sorry. Thats okay. He is set to appear for a Political Fund raiser at the theatre in San Francisco on october 10th with rapper kanye west. He announced his intension to run for the white house in 2020. The money from saturdays fund raiser will benefit the Democratic National committee. And tickets start at 250 and go up to 10,000 that ticket includes a reception with the president. And democratic president ial front runner Hillary Clinton poked fun at herself and at donald trump on saturday night live. She was on the Season Opener of the show playing a bartender while the cast member played clinton. Clinton was able to laugh at herself and did her best trump impercent nation. And that is good when you can make them laugh as well and this is not the first time clinton made an appearance on the show. She dropped by during the 2008 president ial election.
