There are a lot for younger kids, will are a lot of picture books that you can pick up at the library and read with their child so they can get excited about the idea. And also asking like what is it that youre scared most about . You might be surprised when they answer that question. They might Say Something like i dont know where im going to put my backpack. We have our own anxieties about the first day. Maybe we feel abandoned because they didnt give us a kiss and just left us. You dont want to show that in front of your kids. You want to keep that in check. Control it. Often that is why kids how do you control it . The best way. Stay really positive. And cry when you get to the car. Yeah. Cry when you get to the car. Right. Im a softy. I have done the full ball in front of both kids. I think probably every year on the first day. Kindergarten with my oldest. It is a huge milestone for them and us. It is okay for your child to cry. Like it is okay to leave them there with the teacher if theyre in tears. Youre leaving your child with an experienced educator. They are going to get okay and get over it. Remind them that im going to pick you up at the end of the day. You will have a great day. Mommy will be so proud of you when you get through this day. They will probably be hungry. I get the look of shame. I run up as they are walking out of the building. Where have you been all day. I think it is important to take that bandaid off and let it happen when theyre younger. Yeah. If you keep jumping in and rescuing them, he will be dealing with a 15yearold who doesnt want to get out of the car. Right. In high school. And School Refusal is a real thing. It can happen. It is getting a push from sam trans and facebook. They want to hear from the public first. Reporter thats right. If you are from the south bay or if you commute to the south bay, youre probably very familiar with how bad traffic can get out here. And businesses and even government officials have been complaining about the lack of transportation infrastructure for quite some time. A plan to connect cal train in the south bay to the corridor express had been talked about for about two decades. But the idea cooled during the rescission. Facebook picked up the Commuter Rail dream after it opened the campus near the bridge. It sounds like a good idea to many because they get stuck in rush hour every single day. Ideally it would but you have to look at the downtime of construction. It takes me about an hour and a half to get from san mateo to my house, which is insane. It is just the population has been growing so fast every since facebook took over the whole city. Reporter facebook funded this new study with the leadership of sam trans. It is a San Mateo County bus service and owns the dumbarton rail bridge. The plan calls for running cal train over the bridge, connecting redwood city and newark and later to union city around 2030. It would be the first transbay rail crossing since the bart tube. They want to hear from you. Two public hearings. One at 6 30 tonight at the you know on city lib reand tomorrow at 6 30 in the East Palo Alto library. This renewed come is coming after a decade of more jobs moving to the mid peninsula and a lack of housing. Some commuters come as far away as tracy. This project is estimated to cost over a billion dollars. Wish it could happen today. The nfl commissioner Roger Goodell talked about anthem protests this season. He said the anthem is a special moment and a point of pride. He wants to respect the rights of players across the league to sit during the anthem as a form of protest. I was with the jets a few weeks ago. And one of the players was there in the fan forum actually and we were talking about this. They were asked the same question. And they said theres a time and a place. And thats thats what we all have to understand. The responsibility of doing it at the right time and in the right way. And what we see is a lot of our players going into the community and really taking the platform that they have and being active. And creating dialogue and making positive change. Thats what i think is so important. Protest to progression is what i call it. We all have to recognize that people want to see change. Lets go ahead and try to make the change happen in a peaceful and important way. On saturday, raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat on a cooler during the National Anthem before the preseason game. Game. San Francisco Giants are back east in miami facing the marlins along with one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Deep to left. And he has done it again. It is 20. Yeah. He pretty much crushed that one. Carlos stanton took it deep yesterday. He has hit a home run in five consecutive games. A nice play in the 2nd snagging a foul ball for the out. The as continue their search with the royals after losing to kansas city last night 62. Late august. High in the air left center field. Gordon is back. Gordon is near the wall. It is off the top of the wall. The as didnt put up enough runs in this one. They gave up six runs including the grand slam to gallagher, his first home run. As we mentioned at the top of the show, the oakland as surveyed fans to see what they want to see in a new stadium. The team is announcing a new season ticket membership plan. For more on this and reddit ask me session happening today at 2 00, we welcome chris giles. Thank you for coming in. Thank you. We played some of your music. How long did you try that for. Just about a year. A little less. I have been playing my whole life. You sounded good. Is this a cross your t, dot your i thing . Do you know where youre going to put the ballpark . Are you doing this just to be nice. If it was a cross the ts and dot the is, it would have been shorter. We feel like we have an obligation to our fans and the entire community to build something special. Can you tell the results so far . No. A few more weeks we will go through the results. When you come up on a stadium like this, how are you going to make sure that it becomes a thing that people want to go to over and over again . Because now you have sometimes you have ten or 15,000 people going to a game. You want to make it so that you have 30,000 people every night, kind of like they do across the bay. How are you going to do that. Reimagining the ballpark experience and thinking about how much of the real estate do we really want to focus on traditional baseball seating. And how much do we want to think outside of the box and do bars and restaurants and different city areas and lawn areas and family areas and think about what that experience is and how we can create that recurring value judge. I hate to keep looking across the bay but a lot of my fans go to at and a for a more social experience. When i was answering the survey, theres a lot that is not about baseball that i was answering. That sort ever encouraged me. We need more people coming to the games. Yeah. In the new ballpark, we are going down the road to figure out how to use the spaces for more of that social, bring out that younger demographic. We will also try things in the coliseum. Were looking at different options to take space in the coliseum and use it as a petri dish. Before working with the as and coming a Country Music star, which i respect, you worked for the 49ers. Thats correct. You brought levis stadium. You were part of that pros is. What did you leash there and mistakes that what did you learn there and mistakes that you dont want to make again here. Overall what i learned is baseball is very different than football. Creating a Fan Experience that is designed for, you know, eight regular season games versus 81 is very different. You talk about the more casual fan. In football, thats not really even a consideration. I think two, just taking care of the fans. You know, with the purchasing process, we caught lightning in a bottle. Three nfc championship games. A lot of success on the revenue piece. Making sure that as we move through the process, were taking care of our fans. How important is the neighborhood around the stadium . When you go down there, inform at t, there is a neighborhood. If you were to put the stadium here at Howard Terminal, Jack London Square is here. How important is it to make it a neighborhood experience . It is part of the Decision Making process. Lets talk about season Ticket Holders and plans and those that want to take it to that level. Yep. What are their opposites. We have a membership package. Bringing the folks that are willing to commit to the as and giving them access to the players through meet and greets. Increasing flexibility of the program. It used to be that you couldnt trade your games for some of the more highend games. Now were opening that up. Were opening the ballpark 30 minutes early for our season ticket members so they can get a chance to catch batting practice. We have cool seating locations in the tavern, the new restaurant area. You can go in and get one of the tables. Is this different tiers . If i went and bought season tickets, you could have access one that gives you access to the players or tier 2, which doesnt. It is where you sit, what plan of games that you get and how long you have been a season member. Okay. What is the reddit thing at 2 00. It is another step. Were really trying to open ourselves up as a front office, give fans and members of the Community Access to us. It is ask me anything. I will ask you anything. What is your personal pick, if you could decide, between the three spots which would you choose . It is really hard to tell at this point. My job is to be a steward for our fans and the community. But if you had to choose today . I gave mine. Do you want to tip your hat . No. Im okay. How soon will we have an announcement from you guys . Before the end of the year. Before the end of the year. Okay. It is possible fors you to understand what the fans it is important for us to understand what the fans want. How important is transit, getting people there. I dont want know if i want to walk to the waterfront site here from bart. I could, but all of the three sites all of the three sites have their pros and cons. Much are better from a transit perspective and the others have different challenges. If you want to make your announcement here, you can make it here. You did great. Coming up on mornings on 2 the 9, a rise in diamonds grown in a lab instead of those mined in the ground. Can you tell the difference between the two sparklers . We will be right back. Can you tell the difference between a diamond that is mined and one that is grown in a lab . In order to produce completely conflictfree diamonds, there is a process that grows a diamond in about six weeks. Now Lab Grown Diamonds are gaining popularity with more asking about them foreign for Engagement Rings. I have to be honest, i didnt hear much about these lab diamonds. What is the difference . The first thing is theyre an actual diamond which is different than a cubic zirconia. They are in every way identical. They are bigger, brighter and more value for your money. Which one is more expensive. The natural diamond. Why . It is a good question. In terms of pulling them out of the ground, there is an open market. We are in the natural diamond business along with this. It is an interesting alternative which appeals to people on a lot of levels. They are conflict free. It is the only kind of diamond where there is no circumstance that they could be a conflict diamond as well as being ecologically and having a lot he is impact. For those who have never heard the term conflict free, can you explain some of the issues that people have. Yeah. Diamonds come from some of the poorest countries in the world. They can fund whatever it is that you like and oftentimes they cause conflict. There can be a human cost to it as well. Yes. Im happy that mike opened the door about price. Is it 50 , 80 . 40 to 50 less than a traditional diamond. I feel horrible taking off my only diamonds are from my parents. We didnt do a diamond because we had just bought a house and you know me, im practical. This would cost me about 8,800. Yeah. If this was a traditional diamond, it would run what. 12plus. I cant tell. When you say grown in popularity, what would you say the percentage of your customers coming in and inquiring about the diamonds. It is representing a big chunk of our business. Suddenly pushing up to be half of our business. When people i remember when i did this and bought my wife the Engagement Ring. Do people come in and say i would like to look at these type of diamonds now . They do. I have a lot of people who ask about it. I feel like it is an option that i always want to show people. I show them a natural diamond, showing them a lab diamond and say take a look, what do you think . Which is which . It is a quiz and they fail every time. Give me the biggest baddest sparkler that you have. I dont know if i will ever have this chance again. I was going to ask these gentlemen went through this. This is i am married and engaged. Yes. When the gentlemen go through it, how can two months salary last forever . You tell your customers to do what is best with them. There is so shall pressure with instagram and twitter. I think people when they get engaged, having a budget is a perfectly normal, natural thing to have. If we make somebody happy within their budget they will come back and see us again. We need them back. Thats why our business does well. What is the average if you could pinpoint an average Engagement Ring price point. For our business which is higher end, we probably sell anyplace from i know it is a big range but lets say 5,000 to 20,000 is what a lot of what we do. It is not that we dont do less or more. If you stick around, i could show you the difference. Do you think this is a trend or a fad . My concern is that the lab diamond is going to disappear in five years and im hitting myself saying i should have gotten the natural diamond. I dont think this is going away. There has been tremendous demand for the product. People enjoy v. Having it. People feel good about the fact that theyre buying a diamond. And they understand exactly where it came from and what is involved in make thanksgiving. Let me ask you real quick, my little sister has a gorgeous canary diamond. Does this come in pinks and yellows . Yes. You have covered all bases. We have more information on it on ktvu. Com and on our mobile app. Russ capland, thank you for joining us. Thank you. Californias attorney general is joining San Francisco officials in pushing back against the federal governments threat to withhold money from sanctuary cities. The attorney general along with San Franciscos City Attorney herrera announced a lawsuit against the Trump Administration. They say the executive order to withhold federal money for sanctuary cities could cost the city 28 million in federal funds. It is a low blow to our men and women who wear the badge for the federal government to threaten their crimefighting resources in order to force them to do the work of the federal government when it comes to immigration enforcement.
