I like all of the pop culture jokes about the two cranes on either side looking like it was a tower with two arms and shrugging its shoulders. I think it will be unusual to not see the cranes there. It has been part of a permanent fixture from the beginning. I love the skyline of the city growing up in the bay area. You know, things change. You know, its he has done so much in terms of charitable donations. Yes. Ceo and founder of sales force. Yes. Who will be taking up a lot of the building. He is joining mayor ed lee for the kickoff celebration in about an hour to commemorate the finish of the structural phase. They are calling it the best building out west. It is 1,070 feet to the top. And its a Tall Building. And the city wanted a Tall Building here to mark the location of the new transit center, the Grand Central of the west as it is known. And so when youre somewhere in the bay area and you look up and you see Sales Force Tower, you know thats also the location for the transit center. Er. The project has employed about 500 construction workers every day. The final beam for the project has been painted white so that all of the workers could sign their names and be part of the buildings history forever. I tell you what, steve, standing up on top there, you can see all of the weather in world making its way off the pacific right into the bay area. Did you see those kids on your front lawn there, mike . That must have been a great view. Highway 37 going to sonoma, you can see the Sales Force Tower in novato. A lot of people show me pictures with the Sales Force Tower in the background. You can see it from very far away. You can also see a lot of cloud cover and rain. Well, it is the largest bail ever posted in San Mateo County. Happening right now, a woman accused of killing her ex boyfriend is in court. Family and friends putting up millions of dollars in cash. The equity on their homes even to win her release. Christien kafton filed this report before going inside of the courthouse for this mornings bail hearing. Reporter the judge in this case set bail at 35 million. But the way that bail works, it turns out that tiffany lees family and friends could very well wind up putting up nearly double that amount in terms of bail which would certainly make it one of the recordbreaking high bails here in San Mateo County and one of the highest bail amounts across the country. Tiffany lee is accused of murdering her exboyfriend green last year. His body was discovered in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Lee was worried that green would take custody of their two daughters. Police arrested lee at a mansion complete with luxury cars parked out front. Two men are currently in jail in connection with the case and on no bail status. But a judge did he sided thatlee should be able for bail. The family and friends raised the money for the bail. Lee put up 3. 5 million in cash and because her family and friends have put up property as collateral to ensure she will make all of her court dates, the actual value of the assets is close to 66 million in all. Now, they will get that money back providing lee makes all of her court appearances. The d. A. And Defense Attorneys agreed to several conditions for the bail. Lee will be under house arrest. She has to surrender her passport and the passports of her children. She also has to wear a device to monitor her location and not allowed to be within one hundred yards can of any airport. The trial is set to start in september of this year. At san patio county courthouse, christien kafton, ktvu fox 2 news. The mystery deepens surrounding the disappearance of a yuba college student. She drove away from a home in yuba city last week. Surveillance video shows her truck going down a levee and getting stuck in an orchard. The truck was found empty on monday. As search crews for her the past several days, her mom received Text Messages claiming her daughter was kidnapped. They were sent through an online source that used multiple ip sources making it difficult to trace. It makes me worried to go around by myself at night. Reporter the biggest supporters are the addicts themselves. I can do my drugs and feel comfortable and talk to a counselor. Half of the problems that the counselors have is im not comfortable. In Sacramento State legislators could vote today on Governor Browns transportation bill to fix californias bridges and roadways. The document discusses how the bay area will grow over the next two decades and what it means for transportation and housing. There it is. It is not thin. No. A nice thick packet. It is a multi agency effort. Were joined by the metro politician commission. John, what is the big problem. The lack of housing in the bay area. We have not only a shortage of housing but it is extremely expensive. The two go hand in hand. Further there continues to be a big split between where the jobs are and where the housing is. So how do you remedy that . Part of the problem is just the geography of the bay area. A lot of people want to be close to San Francisco and oakland where the jobs are. But youre locked in by the water. We have the the plan describes where the region can accommodate. 800,000 additional households between now and 2040. And accommodate 1. 3 million additional jobs between now and 2040. But to execute that plan, thats going to be up to private developers and it will be up to the is the s and counties. What if we dont attack the housing crisis . Then if we dont attack it, the situation we have today is just going to get worse. This is the situation that has been building for decades. You say situation. Just to clarify, you mean traffic. The traffic is in large measure part of the jobs and housing imbalance. And you have a continued underinvestment in transportation. So this plan and its transportation strategy almost all of the money is spent just to operate and maintain the system that we already have. Only 10 is to expand the system. How well what is going on in San Francisco play a part . If they pass the money . I also have a lot of people asking, what about the gas tax we are already paying and the registration fees we are already paying. Does some of that money, do you get that for some of these issues. Yes. But the legislature has not increased the gas tax since 1989. The last of the steps went into effect in 1994. So it has been 23 years since theres been an increase in the base tax on gas len. Really quick i want to go back to the housing issue. Is the solution to build for dense urban highrise housing in oakland and berkeley. Neighborhoods in those areas are resistant to that idea. They are. Thats why the execution of this plan really depends private developers and the local municipalities. But youre right, the the plan describes where this can be accommodated. And it is mostly in oakland, San Francisco, san jose, and along the bart and cal train corridors that connect them. We see the traffic coming in from tracy every morning. Uhhuh. If you build more housing farther out, you have more people commuting towards oakland, san jose. To me the traffic just gets worse. Do you think that more i mean, can we build more highways or add a lane to this highway but we dont have the room. On 580 of course a lane has been added. An express lane. That is part of what the long range future holds which is more express lanes, particularly on the 880, 680, and 80 corridors. Is that making a difference, that express lane . It is. Okay. Thank you, pam. Here are some of the top stories were following. Oakland brighters clean firefighters cleaning up after a fire on pearl street and harrison avenue. It started about 5 30 this morning. Firefighters rescued one person from a window. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation. A burning candle may have started the fire. 15 people were evacuated. But most of them will be able to go back home today. Well, police statewide are searching now for a man accused of kidnapping his 40monthold baby daughter in Mountain View on tuesday. The baby, Madelyn Wallin was found safe in livermore with her grandmother. But her father, Michael Wallin still has not been found. Investigators say he argued with the babys mother before taking the baby. Police say when they do find wallin he is facing charges of child endangerment and kidnapping. Governor jerry brown wants new rules for selling marijuana in california. He wants to eliminate state issued id cards and the current rule that requires a Third Party Distributors to sell pot. Also marijuana businesses will be allowed to apply for several licenses to grow and sell their products. The new rules would consolidate existing laws on medical marijuana and the valid measure that legalized Recreational Marijuana back in november. And the suit filed in federal court, they claim the Transit Agency is violating the civil rights of those in wheelchairs by not maintaining clean working elevators at station. Yeah. It does not demand money but instead a court order that would face bart to fix the problems. Deborah has more on the unsanitary problems that riders face. A bart rider commuting between San Francisco and oakland posted videos and pictures of her frequent encounters with urine on the floor of bart elevators and toilet paper or worse under foot. Reporter now two advocacy groups have filed a federal suit claiming for those who cant take an escalator or stairs, unsanitary and broken elevators deny equal access. Reporter bart shares the frustration and is spending millions of dollars to improve escalators and elevators, including splash guards and easier to clean floors. Responding to the suit, bart acknowledges hardship thats can occur but blames the impact of the homeless crisis and has hired more crews and offered overtime for more cleaning. This plaintiff who rides daily between concord ask San Francisco doesnt think that bart prioritizes disability needs. The shortness of maintenance people, i mean, they have money. There have been calls for him to recuse himself from the investigation because of his Close Association with President Trumps campaign. Now, in a Statement Released this morning, the california congressman says that several left wing activist groups have filed accusations against him with the office of congressional ethics. He says the charges are false and politically motivated and he wants to talk to the committee to defend himself. Moments ago on the floor of the u. S. Senate, Mitch Mcconnell moved to change the rules so confirm neil gorsuch. This is a live picture of the senate floor earlier this morning democrats as expected blocked the final vote on gorsuch. The vote was 5545, short of the 60 votes needed to advance a final confirmation vote. Now in response mcconnell began the maneuvers to lower the vote threshold from 60 votes to a mere majority in the senate. The rule change will apply to all Supreme Court nominees in the future. Gorsuch is expected to be confirmed under the new rules tomorrow. Joining us on the phone is brian sobel. Good morning. Brian, do you hear us . I do. Can you hear me. Yeah. We had an urgent crossing. It says the senate voted to go nuclear and eliminate the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees. I dont know, will the next 24 be the most contentious that we have recently seen in the u. S. Senate. Well, mike, that is very astute. I think absolutely youre going to see charges and counter charges and history being debated about the wisdom of this or the lack of wisdom. I think youre right on point. I think it kind of brings up the question of how did this whole Nuclear Option come about . It seems to really erase our process of how things are done and decisions are made. Well, consider this. Its not a change to the constitution. It is a change to the rules of the senate which have been in place for a lot of years but slowly eroded, particularly over the last 15 years or so. As the senate has lost frankly a lot of its commonnity and ability to get along. And it was harry reid who used the Nuclear Option to to get through a judge at a lower level. So and of course this goes back to the bush administration. This has been eroding over time. Today is a big day because it involves the Supreme Court of the united states. It has been eroded from underneath for a number of years. Brian, switching gears to representative david nunes who is stepping down he says temporarily from the investigation into the russia probe. How unprecedented is this for the chair of the House Intelligence Committee to recuse himself . Well, its an interesting move. I think what he came to the conclusion about is that hes a huge distracts here. And if everybody believes that this probe needs to go forward, and i think on a bipartisan basis people want to know what happened, if anything, then then his having to constantly defend why he was at the white house a couple of weeks ago and he didnt take the democratic, you know, counter part to him with him over to the white house, if he has to explain that, it gets in the way of the probe. That in combination with the interesting illusion to ethics charges and so forth is why he stepped down. And i dont know if it is unprecedented but another twist and turn in the new administration. I dont know why he said temporarily. Im sure he used his words carefully. Why temporarily . What does that mean. He is going to his statement was he will step away from the russian probe. But not from his duties as committee chair. And so theres you know, thats an important distinction. And a member of congress, mike conway, who is a republican from texas, is going to lead the russia spying probe. With assistance. So it looks like what nunes is saying is on all things in front of the intelligence committee, i will still be the chair but im stepping aside on this russian probe. It is interesting, brian, the man leading the investigation now being investigated. The speaker of the house, paul ryan, says he supports the decision of the congressman to step aside here. My question to you is, are paul ryan and nunes on the same page, do you think . Is there a lot of honesty between these two men . Im sure theyre talking. This one catches people by surprise. You know, this is, you know, very much what were seeing in washington right now. Its part of the new government, both all three branches frankly trying to figure out the road ahead. So this one today was a big surprise. I think people have been, you know, in his kind of position for many years and people are lobbing charges and goes about their work. It is pretty amazing. I hate to say it but i feel like this bathroom and bedroom is more spacious than what i have at home. If you didnt notice, every room has flat screen tv in it. If you want the boat to go sidewise, you push it sidewise. If you want it to turn within a certain length, you turn it up top. Someone who is not experienced with the boat with the right training with a captain can maneuver this boat with confidence. Behind us we have a dining stroke seating area here. And lots of i mean it is you have a refrigerator, freezer, drawers. You have a dishwasher. And you have this kind of bar arrangement which enables all of the spaces to flow through to one another. You also have a sunshade. If you like the sun, you have somewhere to sun bathe. If you dont, you have a sunshade to keep you out of the sun. It is so inviting, i have to say. This is not bought yet. The Coliseum Authority says the raiders have been pocketing Stadium Parking fees and that the team owes oakland and sal immediate accounty half the revenue. An audit will determine how much is owed. The overdue fees are about 800,000 over the past four seasons. Now, if the issue on parking fees is not resolved it could jeopardize their seasons at the coliseum in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
