But things are warm doing better. Its going to be crowded but i think that things are beginning to lighten up a wednesday we will have an exodus of people from the bay area trying to get to where they going on thanksgiving. Thursday and friday snow commute traffic. No commute traffic. Yes, because friday we saw a huge group of people trying to get out of town. Yes. And i think that we will have decent weather when it comes to thanksgiving week. Emma wright . Well, thanksgiving day there will be some rain but yes, i think that here locally it will be okay by wednesday morning into thursday but there are signs looking out 10 or 15 days that have just very cold windy and what patterns. We will see that materializes. And this looks like late friday and saturday and another system on sunday for the weekend rain it was all or nothing. And, if you did had a lot of rain you have a lot of company. And Sleepy Hollow and marin county, sonoma county, napa county in the Santa Cruz Mountains of the bulk of that rain. They were much less on the peninsula and either suck even Southern California is getting some mountain snow. Maybe a lot of low clouds. And there Southern California even up into flagstaff las vegas had had some rain. This is good for the entire west coast. 40s and 50s are the temperatures. Not very warm. Today, it looks okay mostly sunny then the next to summarize late tuesday in early wednesday not a lot of rain but they will be a ton of rain up north keep that in mind as we go over the next five or seven days there will be some incredible totals especially in Crescent City but not that much here. However, these are colder systems. There will be pretty good snow in the mountains. And up towards tahoe 60s owner temperatures upper 50s costs finally, fog tomorrow night and rain late tuesday and wednesday were okay thursday the next system is late friday and saturday. Its looking like a very positive pattern in the next couple weeks. Those family Football Games on thanksgiving with dry . He will be fine as you take that right sweep. All right. Were getting an update on this investigation the officer joining us this morning. Doing at this point in the investigation why the car moved back . White backed over the boy cork at this point theyre trying to determine what information what we do know from statements was that he was in the car charging his cell phone in terms of positioning and how the current backwards we do not know the information at this point. We dont know peers in the driver seat or passenger seat. We dont. One of the other aspects that you are doing to figure out what may have caused the accident . Our detectives do have the car in the in their possession. Were going to make sure there are no mechanical defects so that will yield information in terms of what happened. And its a childs Birthday Party happening inside the Senior Centers when this all happened yesterday just before 5 pm obviously you know its dramatic for families and everybody else it must have that mustve been here including the First Responders were you doing to try to help people through it . Obviously anything that we respond to call that about they death and a tragedy especially a child we did have a Critical Incident debriefing for officers. And were doing the best they can to address their grief we did reach out to the family we offered our program that we have here we do not know if they took advantage of that but those resources are available. 4 is the question that could there be any consequences for this 12yearold boy who somehow may have made the vehicle back over the boy any consequences or charges possible . At this point in the investigation everything that we are learning is just to just leaning towards a tragic accident again, right now it looks like its just a tragic accident. Reporter thank you. Again, the investigation is just getting underway. A lot of people to interview and right now they are looking at the vehicle trying to rule out if there was any sort of mechanical failure. And, were just turned to get a sense of what went wrong here that left this fouryearold boy dead outside of the Birthday Party. It was supposed to be a celebration. Sending it back to you for now. Thank you. Police officers have been shot at in the past 24 hours one officer died the shootings are being called targeted attacks in san Antonio Benjamin marconi was shot and killed while riding a ticket. In st. Louis missouri a Police Sergeant was shot twice in the face is expected to survive. The other officers were shot and injured in gladstone missouri. The rising ambush style solutions, is one of the challenges coming in, and the atty. General. And other key members of the Trump Administration and the retired general wakeling our National Security advisor. Over the weekend, he met with more possible candidates for his positions of the administration a lot of attention at mitt romney once a fierce critic now is being considered for secretary of state. We had a farreaching conversation with regards to the various theaters of the world where there are interest in the United States real significance. Obama returned to the white house early this morning from the last schedule trip of his presidency at a News Conference in peru the president indicated that he may break with his predecessors and criticize donald trump if he thinks it is necessary to defend core values and ideas. Joining us to talk more is brian. Thank you for joining us. Donald trump had called mitt romney choke artist. He thought that she said that it would bring tripled on racism and bigotry we going to see them Work Together . Yes. Thats the way it works in politics. Yes, if ronnie came into the administration that would be a signal to everyone that you know chump is reaching out and hes going to work with people that he even had significant agreements with disagreements with. And people still cost you banning, they seem to be focusing on him a lot they buffet the they thought it would die down. People are talking about this. People come into an administration, or James Carville back in the clinton days you know clinton he was a pitbull. And it didnt last very long people like that dont tend to last because they dont play was in the lines. But the idea that they pick some of those people is you know in a sense its not looking at it realistically. Yes, it is going back to mitt romney could be a positive to have him as secretary of state and maybe thats what the president elect is thinking . Because there are allies have a lot of concern about the Trump Administration and maybe some of these concerns with mitt romney could be better. Yes, and hes another one of those steady hands like pens michael pence. And they are going to be signaling. We understand how works in we will be good people and move forward. So, do the egos go away when people dont agree with donald trump were happened during that campaign . Her sense of duty . Server president. A matter who it is . I think its also being realistic you know, if you read through American History lincoln is accredited with taking all of his opponents in bringing the men on his cabinet donald trump has taken a page out of that book and saying, going to go out and get all kinds of different people potentially, were still waiting for that list and we will have a administration. I want to ask you about the Vice President in the incident in the theater he came out and he said, its not a big deal to me but other people including president elect trump says, that the people should apologize. Well, he notes one of these things that we are seeing more often with social media and activism in general that cast of hamilton the one star player came out and lectured essentially the Vice President elect and to his credit he said hey no big deal and i think that we are still watching a president elect who is still not liking to see this hes going to have to get used to it its part of the drill. And as Campaign Manager do take his twitter away and say you won your yes, i think that has to go away. Know hes still out there and sending messages at odd hours. But pretty soon is going to be way too busy. Thank you. January 20. Thank you. Coming up, what is acceptable on social media the question that comes up a lot after the president ial election. And concerns about hateful posts versus the right to free speech with the Electronic Frontier foundation. And i am a senior Public Safety my namspecialist for pg e. My job is to help educate our First Responders on how to deal with natural gas and electric emergencies. Everyday when we go to work we want everyone to work safely and come home safely. I live right here in auburn, i absolutely love this community. Once i moved here i didnt want to live anywhere else. I love that people in this community are willing to come together to make a difference for other peoples lives. Together, were building a better california. Its a short week for the stock market because of thanksgiving but lets take a look at these numbers have been up all morning and they are up. Dow jones gaining almost 50 points. The nasdaq and the s p are also appeared many people took to social media to share their thoughts on the election and donald trump. Some stirred up controversy because of what they consider racist or hate language is causing problems. But where exactly is the line between censorship and rights . In june this five is the director of International Freedom of expression for the Electronic Frontier foundation. Good morning. Good morning. Lets start with San Francisco. Jack dorsey has remained steadfast that twitter is not about censoring speech. To think that twitter is restricting free speech . You know, i think that its an important question ultimately the issue is that companies have the right to restrict it as they see fit and so twitter has the right to do this there is not a First Amendment issue question i think the real question is whether they have a responsibility to be transparent about what they are doing. Is there a slippery slope concern first you start banning right groups and you know where you go from there . Yes. I do think that that is a concern and personal its important for us to distinguish hate speech and hate speech from harassment. These are different categories that are different issues and i have heard from a number of users who are concerned that right now there is a Certain Group of people being taken down. Not sure that many of these companies have done a good enough job of clarifying what hate speech means to them. For those of us who may not know twitter last week did ban some sites. Do you know what reason they gave were they saying certain things that actually pushed the button . I actually did not see those accounts before they went down i think that is part of the problem they dont have access to what exactly was taken down to determine whether or not it is censorship. I think that there are reasonable concerns about the content that people are posting in this case it does not appear that these folks are directly harassing individuals. Im not sure where twitter is defining that. What it does seem is that they tend to go after more prominent users rather than your garden variety. When you talk about transparency can you elaborate a little bit what you mean by that in regards to we should be able to know who decides exactly makes the decisions and where that line in the sand is . Shore. Saw a lot of these companies have pretty extensive roles for what they restrict for example facebook nudity which is a form of nudity freedom of expression we are talking about what types of content they are bringing down how much they are taking down and thats their own rules. And then we would also like them to make the process more transparent. As a project that i run online and users really dont understand how it works and i think that companies can do a better job of explaining how it works what punitive measures will be handed down in what those red lines on. But as a private company there is no obligation to do that. Theres no obligation right now but if we dont urge them to have an ethical responsibility its a matter of time before people start calling for regulations. That they must much riskier popular proposition. Right now our best bet is to urge them to practice transparency. Is the reason that lets a twitter isnt doing that is because they are the only one in the game and they are the big one fatal have to do it. I think that might be part of it although i think that this book also faces a lot of issues. And i think that twitter is trying to get the right balance and some people are going to be unhappy and i hear from users and they also here people are very happy that they are not able to get out there so if twitter a democracy its not going the direction youd wanted to either. I think that they just need to be for now, its key that they be more transparent about the process. Right. And you are from the electronic foundation. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. Overcoming violence and loss high group of boys are changing their lives to football. Unit is the season to give. The annual fundraiser is kicking off this week to help all those in need. On thanksgiving day, the annual season of sharing will kickoff. Since 1986 their race within 113 million to help people and families in need thanks to a network of 160 Community Service agencies around the bay area. And we are proud to be a partner. Audrey cooper is joining us this morning thank you for joining us. Thank you. The heartwarming stories we publish about the people who are on the receiving end of what people in the bay area give they are so moving and emotional. Absolutely. Thats the thing i love about this nonprofit the biggest one in the country the biggest newspaperbased foundation so people on the east coast have nothing on us. And at its core it keeps people from becoming homeless. It talked about that a lot ktvu is a person participant. The best way to deal with the homeless problem is to make sure it doesnt get any bigger and thats what this does it give small donations for the first months rent for getting a deposit for getting mattresses you get the apartment it really is helping people with a small amount of money just to get them on their feet. And your paper has done wonderful things stories about the homeless. And groundbreaking series after being there for a while you know how San Francisco can get a hold of the problem . Its a really complicated problem that we have their families that are homeless mentally ill people people on drugs single adult populations that are really very difficult to fix. And the thing about the season of sharing is it stops us from growing the number of San Francisco alone almost 7000 acknowledged people are homeless. And, there are one in 10 people in San Francisco alone who are living below the poverty line. 24,000 a year we cant do anything with that 30 of this country lives at or near poverty these are real numbers even harder in the bay area and the thing that drives me nuts is it is a huge problem overwhelming lets take it a little bit at a time and keep the people on the going over. I enjoy seeing the stories, and who benefits from that so far and revisiting them they are still the road have you had a chance . Yes, there are a lot of its so great because you feel like a lot of these people are working for it it doesnt take a whole lot to push them into the crisis in this is a very Flexible Organization it goes to the people who are on the ground working with these families and individuals and gives them just a little bit of a push and sometimes thats all you need to get back on your feet the stories they really do is such a nice thing to see the other thing thats important to mention is on the overhead costs covered by the fund in the chronicle anything that people donate goes entirely 100 to this people were not supposed to journalists be advocates for something but i am an advocate for this. Im right there with you. From five dollars to 500 if you have it. Thank you so much. And if you would like to help go to ktvu. Com. Also, join us saturday morning for the bay area people, we will be introduced to a family who is helps with her rent thanks to this season of sharing. Imagine a world where we celebrate thanksgiving like we used to. Where instead of rushing to buy we gave thanks for what we already have. And the only thing open for business after dinner was the family room. At t. J. Maxx, marshalls and homegoods were closed on thanksgiving because family time comes first. Lets put more value on what really matters. This season, bring back the holidays with t. J. Maxx, marshalls and homegoods. We are days away from the Commerce City days away from thanksgiving. The average cost of dinner for 10, is just under 50. And, what thanksgiving dish would you splurge on . He writes, thats an easy one, pumpkin pie. And, theres no such thing as too much. And, with whipped cream. Its like my son. And, there is a peek for apple in five . And, definitely the old brown. And, the thanksgiving tradition, i dont like myself but i understand. In my family if the cranberry sauce. Yes. And its at the circles from the can. We still have the good stuff for the other people. But ie the canned stuff. Ive got responses on twitter kevin is not going the food rut he says he will splurge whatever takes on tickets to the turkey night race. Lindsay lee says, its the turkey. And, cheesy potato, his mind. It, charities are in need of donations to help a thanksgiving meals. And were joined life to talk about what they say could help them the most. Turkeys. That is what they need. We are here at the sacred heart Community Service and it is puzzling with activity. Its the first day of their holiday food giveaway for families that preregister. And, all of these boxes are lined up and the trimmings and everybody gets a turkey. And theyre going to run out because theres not a donation. And, they had 2000 turkeys because they are passing them out to needy families. Families registered to receive the food several weeks ago it takes away a lot of the stress that they feel during the Holiday Season another nonprofit that needs help his Second Harvest food bank it is short for thousand turkeys they set up a donation dropoff station today to encourage people to donate we ran into one man who answered the call. I feel grateful for everything that i have a good family have a job that helps me provide for my family and some people are not happy you know, they are not in a position to do that and they just need a little help. Second Harvest Food Bank provides food for more than 300 charities and it is a place for nonprofits can come to grocery shop to help people that they serve and its a critical time because they receive half of their donations for the entire year during this Holiday Season and if you would like to donate either back out your life to the sacred heart Community Service or the food bank just go to our website at ktvu. Com on our homepage just click on web links and you were able to get more information there. But you know a lot of happy faces that we have been seeing in the last 30 minutes because the families are coming by to receive their food just have a nice thanksgiving meal. Yes, lets get those donations going. Thank you. Switching to football, the raiders are getting ready to play the houston texans. They landed yesterday at noon, and at last check, both teams will be dealing with that High Altitude and 7300 feet above sea level. And the last nfl regular season played at the stadium was between the 49ers and cardinals tonights game is the first of a threeyear contract for the nfl to play in mexico city. You know, theyre not too happy about them play new mexico because its technically a home game. Right. So the fans think they miss out. The 49ers on the other hand lost night street yesterday the san mateo native tom brady and a few new england patriots. I know. They kept it close at first. And then, he had a touchdown, and they trailed 13 to 10 up at halftime. And, two touchdown passes in five minutes. The patriots won 30 to 17. And, they face the Miami Dolphins on sunday. The playoff game with a record of 10 and one, and unfortunately they bosses lead. They lost leave it there was violence loss in defeat, and here they are today. Paul chambers has more on some of the young men who make up the team. Lets begin. These are young men in Richmond KennedyHigh School VarsityFootball Team their leader is a richmond native. When people see our school and they think is negativity. Jackson whos in his first year is trying to change that. The district requires them to have a 2. 0 to play not this team. A 2. 5 is needed to take this field. And, jackson says he truly cares. This is more than just scolding. These are your family. They couldnt be any closer. For some players is the only family that they have pierced that they have. My dad died last year, my mom died. I lost a lot of people in my family. Gun violence is too common for these young men. 1300 feet from here is a war zone. Ive been a lot of folks that a been killed right there. We have seen people lose their lives right across the street. In practice in broad daylight. The homicide rate has gradually increased over the last three years. People are killed in 2000 1421 in 2015 and 2015 all ready this year and Brian Robinson knows how february 4 of 2014. Today he will never forget. It is the day that he lost both of his brothers to gun violence. My second oldest brother was riding a go kart, and they shot him. My brother went to my aunts house and when he went to the store he got killed. Losing loved ones isnt the only thing they have in common. Kids up and shot a lot, kids have been in jail and everyone has a story. And i hope that others dont follow their footsteps. I was scared for my safety. And with all odds the with all ads stacked the with all odds stacked against them, they still play. And, this all changed when they went nine and one and there was a championship. There only regularseason loss was one but it propelled them to soar. Theyve overcome challenges on and off of the field and coaches will be there every step of the way. And, someone has come back and what the coach has done is he brought them into a circle to teach them about what the word team is. If we dont prepare them i failed them. I didnt teach them and i have the opportunity. After seeing and going through things many people never understand these young men have or are in the process of turning their lives around. And their loved ones in some cases for no longer here. They would want me to do better. On taking care of them. We are always got. That includes their Coaching Staff they all say they respect and looks to in times of need. They did excellent job coaching first of all but they are not just coaching their mentors. I came back from a 1. 5 to 3. 0. Doing good. Helping out kids when i can. Just to get back. They ask that you dont judge them for what they did or who they were but for what theyre doing now on and off of the field. The changing their lives for the better. All right. The head coach joining us in studio first of all, congratulations. Sorry bout that loss over the weekend. Im curious now, is it hard on monday, you know that you dont have a team anymore . Tiwari about them . Do you worry about them quick i do. Them . I do. Some things happen on campus friday. So bothers me knowing that they couldnt participate in the game in couldnt be at the game and it hurt. I cried going to my guys can be there and watched them walk away knowing that they could not participate i was more worried about what they were going to do. They are walking away from families. Coach, can you talk about the transformation that youve seen i know that we sought in the piece. But a little bit more about these guys and how they changed it yes, its a very exciting thing to be able to tell you that its one of the first years that ive been there that everyone the grades the whole year wouldnt have to worry about a guy wouldnt make it. You know, we always said that double as going to college. Thats my goal. In my first year its important for me that these guys may grades so that they can go to the next level. And hes a real deal. He was in the first pic. Not at all. Overcome a lot yourself. Yes. No one scored a single point last year. 1 point . No. Its crazy, you know at some point someones going to score it didnt happen after the season the school said you are the varsity coach. And were going to make changes and i was like okay cool. And, its open it up for everyone. And, were going to do our thing and we got to that district it someone else. In the end, they chose you. They chose me and that process, i was angry and hurt. And i didnt get it. One of the things i told them they could avoid the negative route and let myself get involved. And i got angry and wrote letters and that wasnt the way. And i stood my ground and i held my own. And, made it possible for me to get this job. Did they teach you anything . Every day. What do they teach you . To get on track. And, to get that outside stuff. And, how did you meet this coach . Up a lot, this first one. And, some of the young men who were shot and left for dead, the cover that story. And, the Community Activist that year, when huge on their facebook page. So, they contacted them about it. And, you know what, it was a story that needed to be told. Yes. Can i ask you, jenner how young man who says i dont need any of that dad stuff. All the time. Were all they are all or all they are they all open . Theres a lot of arguments between me and players. And, yesterday after the game, getting ready for church, to receive those messages, telling me how much they appreciate all of the arguments and all of the making them get in there you know, its bigger than football. Football is fun lets make life fun as well. Lets make it easier for you. Yes, i appreciate that. I respect my coaches and they are inspirations. And kids love it. We will be right back. At ikea, we believe everyone should be able to afford a welcoming home for the holidays. And that nothing should get in the way of a good conversation. We believe that room for one more shouldnt cost more. And that you can make a place for everyone. Spend your holiday overjoyed and under budget with ikea. James patterson has sold more than 325 million copies worldwide. Now he is peering up at journalist and tv Host Bill Oreilly for a new childrens book. It is meant to encourage consideration at a young age. And joining us this morning is the author James Patterson. Good morning. Yes, the bill oreilly and James Patterson together. Two bestselling authors. Its great. You know, the idea its a picture book and i think its very special for parents and grandparents to get to their kids over the holidays and its all illustrations like this one which is the little boy who has a dog a biggest as big as he is, he says can i keep him please . And there are 23 of these illustrations and its a lesson but its also a fun lesson and i think that if people thats why bill got involved. And, we both what a generation of please and thank yous. Especially, in this country, after what weve just gone through which is, i call them the uncivil wars unbelievable rudeness and i think that we are better than that and i think that everyone is watching they can agree s when youre sitting there on the phone or in person, you say, these children arent saying please enough because maybe their parents arent saying it around the house . That is a piece of it you know, its not dawning on them that that is their job. Or they think that they are too busy port or they get out of the habit. When they are little you can get them into that habit. And, my son jack is 18 and he says please and thank you. He goes to an Ivy League College but he still says please and thank you and you know we can do this. Individuals in our house we cant stop healthcare whatever you think the solution is but you can get them please. And you cant imagine a bigger thing to do over the holidays and i think that that is why, the book went to number one on amazon and its now in stores you know where you buy books walmart, and heres one thing. Lack friday, you cant go shoving people out of the way you know, this is a please and thank you day. You have to be polite. Might there be a generational difference here . That when i was growing up we were taught to call adults mr. Neue back, mayhem and the mr. And mrs. And i see them referring to better mom as suzy. Well, that i think it is a choice that appear can make. I dont think that theres any major harm. I prefer lamont ab thing. But, the please and thank you, recognizing that you dont have a right to the chocolate chip cookies mom made them there Something Special going on there. If you are showing some respect and in terms what you call your parents thats important. Thank you mr. Patterson for joining us. Youre welcome. Thank you the book is called please give it a chance. And its available now. It is interesting, so many different illustrators and there are 17 different was in there. And we have been teaching our kids that. And, they are debuting a new butterfly exhibit. And, they are over there to show us all that beauty. Reporter it is so cool. This is where all of the cocoons are. And, a couple times a day they will open it up and fly into space. Joining me life is the director here of the exhibit. This is so cool. Can we going . Dashcode in go in . Absolutely. Have to go through this netting. And, they are just flying all around, its so cool. Anything that we can do to get people excited. And, this exhibit is really about the importance of pollination and why plants rely on pollinators. And, they are more than the goodwill ambassadors. And to be a little bit tricky to fill them with that. But yes, its been a fun exhibit we talk a lot about the magic that is metaphor six metaphor metamorphosis. And, my favorite fact about them ever im sure theyre tired of hearing it. Show me that little box. The one thing that we are doing is we are for an extra 20 allowing visitors to help us release newly emerged butterflies into the exhibit and here are a couple of ladies that emerged this morning and like anybody waking up its a second to get your act together. So, these guys are drying off. And they will be flying around the room. And, whats the most popular butterfly . For me it changes every day. The most popular is the monarch just because its migration is so magical. And theres so much unknown. Its crazy to think that multiple generations of butterflies make one migration. So mica great great great grandchildren are like a made it back to the studio. And going from santa cruz to mexico. Exactly. You have to pay admission. Yes. Its included. Thats so cool. And, you have to pull it off. So, you are at the conservatory of flowers which is a beautiful white building. One just fell on my photographer shoulder. Back to you. Coming up, after an abrupt cancellation last night a big announcement about kanye west ongoing tour. Why the wrapper is pulling the plug on the rest of his concerts. Kanye west is canceling all the remaining days. This is after he called off a show in los angeles. They canceled just hours before he was supposed to take the stage and so many fans did not get one of the cancellation until they showed up to the venue. They were fed up. You know, its obvious that he doesnt respect his hands. Im not going to get fans. Not going to go to his concert again it comes one day after he cut it short, and went on a rant about beyonci and jayz.
