Is one of the battleground states. Welcome to the 9, everyone. It is election day alongside Sal Castaneda and gasia mikaelian. And im mike mibach. My goodness, we have made it a year and a half later. Here it is. What are your thoughts going into this date. I cant wait to wake up tomorrow and see what we have. Lets get right to it. This election day we have been showing you president ial candidates and their running mates as they cast their ballots today. Hillary clinton and former press bill clinton voted near their home in new york. Donald trump and melania voted in new york city right near their home at trump tower. The democratic Vice President ial candidate tim kaine cast his ballot. Here in the bay area, the polls open at 7 00. We have crews across the bay area. We have seen a good turnout so far this morning. This is video from a polling place in san jose. The polls will be open until 8 00 tonight. Speaking of getting out and voting, im going to take care of that myself. I vote in alameda county. I have a mailin ballot. But we chose a spot that i think people will be willing to talk to us. Im going to check in with the magic of technology. Through the magic of facebook live. If you want to join us online were going to watch your travels. Thank you, sal. Lets look ahead to tonight. Both Hillary Clinton and donald trump have their Election Night rallies set for new york city. They will be about two miles apart tonight. Lauren joins us live from new york city this morning, the center of a lot of activity, lauren. Reporter good morning, gasia. Yeah. This is the center of everything happening in mid town. Election day is finally here. Its been nearly two years. Today voters will go out and decide who will be our next president. And massachusetts is represented by pocahontas. Right. Pocahontas. She is terrible. Reporter donald trump making controversial comments about democratic senator Elizabeth Warren while in New Hampshire yesterday. Anyone who sees women as objects, minorities and immigrants as inferior, other faiths as unamerican cannot lead this big hearted country that we love. Reporter trump is on the offensive with both candidates campaigning in pennsylvania and michigan. There is thinking about holding that blue socalled blue wall which is state thats have traditionally voted democrat. Reporter Hillary Clinton ended her last campaign day in north carolina. Although my name and my opponents name may be on the ballot, every issue you care about is on that ballot. Reporter the first election day voters already cast their ballots in dixville notch, New Hampshire with clinton coming out on top in the small town. Some effort subpoenas though believe trump has a narrow path to win. Clinton can lose some of her key states and still win. States reporter tonight the first polls to close will be about 7 00 p. M. Eastern. Thats in a few states. Gasia, we just found out that governor pence just voted in his hometown of indianapolis, indiana. He was the last one to vote. Everyone from the two tickets has now voted. And a fact for you, where pence voted this important, thats where they met, mr. And mrs. Pence, many, many years ago. Lauren, thank you, live from new york. Were joined live by joe tuman and joe garofoli. Thank you for coming in to talk about this big day. We made it. Joel, ill start with you. Is this going to be a close election . It should be pretty close. Who knows. All of my predicts have been wrong so far. Why do you think it will be close . Based on the polling. Yes. The polling. And just being out there, seeing how divided people are. We havent seen any kind of wave come through. So we you know, clinton is expected to win at this point but we will see. A lot of talk about florida. Obviously the one that both of these candidates needs. If it is a close race there in florida as we move from time zone to time zone, by the time that polls close here at 8 00, do you think that state will be decided . Will it will be that close. It depends on the turnout. I was there over the weekend talking to a lot of people. In the south of florida, the clintons, the campaign in places like miamidade county, ft. Lauderdale, places like that have made a concerted effort to recruit new and latino voters to off set what might be a smaller turnout with African American. These are first time voters. First time voters. So the question is will they turn out. In the rural areas, mr. Trump is doing very well. In my visit, you dont want to count signs. But i could not believe the proliferation of signs that i saw for him there and people arguing for his candidacy. It is all about rural versus urban area. I wouldnt be surprised to see him win that state. There are four battleground state thats will determine this race. Pennsylvania, florida. Florida is a prize. Colorado and New Hampshire. And north carolina. Right. How is he going to do in those places. Lets look past tonight and tomorrow. You have painted a fairly bleak picture of what the president faces. I cant imagine this polarizing election will bring anyone together in the coming days, weeks or month. No. There is no singing at 12 01 or whenever the votes are finally in and counted. Whoever is the next president , its going to be a bleak and a lot of grid lock. If it is Hillary Clinton, republicans already promising to launch investigations into her. Theyre promising not to confirm or even listen to her Supreme Court nominee. We could have eight people in the court for a prolonged period of time. So theyre jamming here. And on the other side, trump, people dont consider him to be a viable candidate. They are polarized against him. Many people dont think that this election is legitimate. Theyre questioning the democracy that we have. This is painful. How are we going to get past this. How important is it that the loser play a crucial role in legitmizing the winner in this winner . Doesnt that say a lot about what our country is. Role models, it is be al gore. We went six weeks from the recount. When the Supreme Court sought the recount. He came out and gave a gracious speech because he said seeing the daily threat to the country, he said the next president is going to face a threat. We need to be united with him behind him. And sure enough of course 10, 11 months later we have the 9 11 attacks. The president is united behind president bush and he responded strongly. So do you think that Hillary Clinton and donald trump have concession speeches prepared. Oh, yes. Well, we know we know one of them does, yes. Clinton definitely has the two speeches. Because she is a pro. Trump has said that he will trump will rift. And we will see. And it is very important what he says tonight. You know, if he doesnt win. He has to come out with a console message because 40 to 50 do not believe that this election is legit. Would you agree he that the loser plays in a big role. I think were overestimating the importance of the concession speech anyway. The reality is we have a democracy. Certainly mr. Trump can set a tone for the people who voted for him. We have a system that is several hundred years old. And some people walk away being sore losers. Sometimes. But whether or not mr. Trump is nice or angry tonight is not going to lessen or change frankly the anger that people have felt in the plays that he has recruited new voters in. What made them want to vote for him despite the fact that he said a ton of outrageous things is the fact that most of these people felt powerless. You would find if you polled lots of them that they did. Unemployed. For some of them have lost their jobs and had to take a job that paid less. And also feeling disconnected from the political system that makes rules for them that they dont feel a part of. That wont change whether he gives a concession speech or not. I think it behooves both parties and the congress to think about the fact that he brought a lot of people in. Right. Who feel disconnected from this political system. As great as it is. To do more to reach people and pull them in. We have been polling our viewers on the screen while we had this conversation. Should clinton and trump run again in four years . 85 said no. Im assuming that is even if trump wins. That is low. A single party has held the white house since world war ii three consecutive terms once. I think its a big deal because when people if you vote with the same party three times in a row, you are locked in with them. Thats a big deal for younger voters. It is hi a big deal for younger voters, teenagers, High School Kids growing up seeing an africanamerican as president and a woman as president. That that gives the aspirations to many more people and the 44 white guys before them. We are going to give you a break. Were going to bring you back for the 4 on 2. Thank you for joining us. Polls are open all across the country now. We will move to the question of the day which is about your right to exercise your vote. We have been asking you throughout the morning, why are you voting or choosing not to vote . So many people talked to us through facebook and twitter. Demaryius says i believe it would be irresponsible not to. It is your duty as a citizen. And bridges told us on facebook, i vote since waking up on my 18th birthday to my caucasian mother handing me a registration with a form on it telling me that people died so you could have the right to vote. This is the tradition that i continue with my African American children. We will continue to check your responses throughout the day. We will share them with you here at 9 30. Again the hashtag is ktvuthe9. We will continue our election day coverage throughout the 9 and the noon broadcast. And starting at 4 00. We will bring you the first results from around the country. We will be on the air nonstop with results throughout the bay area and california after the polls close here at 8 00 tonight. If you have to leave your tv, take us with you. Go to ktvu. Com and up to the minute results through your smart phone on the ktvu app. Sal is making his way to alameda to cast his vote. Follow him on facebook. You can see him facebooking live. We will check in with him live when he arrives in just a few minutes. Well be right back after the break. The time is long overdue. Pharmaceutical industry. Passes the ballot. It is time for the pharmaceutical industry to stop ripping off the people of this country. The entire nation is looking at california. Lets go forward together. Thank you all very much. On this election day, it is not red or blue, but green we are looking at on the stocks right now. The dow jones is up by more than 100 points. The store see similar on the nasdaq and s p. All three major indexes up by 1 half percent. Lets check in with Steve Paulson on this tuesday. Very nice, gasia and mike, today weatherwise. A few high clouds. Theres a High Surf Advisory that kicks in at 3 00 today and goes until 6 00 on thursday for building surf. A couple very strong lows out in the gulf of alaska generating that. Until then, tommy, good morning, steve, the beach is absolutely perfect. 70 already at stenson beach. Another day in paradise. Ill say. The bay area is warming up. Were all in the 70s. 71 in San Francisco. To 76 in san jose. These are as you might expect above average. Everything is on hold as far as a warm pattern for a few days. Thats for sure. You get the easterly breeze for most. Oakland airport turned a little bit. Berkeley at 70. Oakland 65. Look at the coast. Sfo, 65. One to five degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. So except for a little patchy fog, it will be mostly sunny and warmer today. Lots of 70s. In fact mid70s. Dont see much change over the next few days. In fact, i think if anything it will get warmer until thursday. A little cooler heading into friday. The weekend looks good. Maybe a big pattern change middle of next week. Until then, enjoy the sunshine, guys. A dry first half of the month. Thank you, steve. We will make up for it. Good. For some on some of the other headlines we have been working on, lets go to dave clark standing in the news room. Thank you, mike. Here are the top stories were following. A disturbing story in the east bay where a woman ran down three people with her car, including her estranged husband right outside of the courthouse in martinez and jumped to her death off of the bridge. The east bay times reports that Kimberly Goldman deliberately ran down her husband, his lawyer and a woman. Witnesses say she backed up her car and hit the woman a second time and then fled the scene. 20 minutes later her vehicle was spotted at the bridge. She tried to drive over a retaining wall. She jumped off of the bridge, falling 100 feet to her death. So we dont know if the vehicle if she was trying to take the vehicle off of the bridge and have both go and that was unsuccessful, but the vehicle had a lot of damage. Goldman had just come out of a divorce hearing at the courthouse. The bailiff says there was no signs of trouble. The three people that she ran down with her car are being treated at the hospital. Her estranged husband is the former medical director of the clinic in the drug scandal. In the meantime, South Carolina investigators examining the bodies of three people found on the property owned by convicted rapist Todd Kohlhepp who told officials where to look to find the victims. But authorities have not confirmed the names or how those people died. The killings were discovered after a woman missing more than two months was found alive and chained inside of a metal container on the property. She says one of the victims is her boyfriend. Todd kohlhepp has already confessed to killing four other people back in 2003. Those are just some of your Morning Headlines from our news room. Mike and gasia, ill send it back to you. Thank you, dave. As a small thank you for their service to our country, veterans are eligible for mortgages that many of us cant get. How to get the most for your mortgage. I we worked with pg eof to save energy because wenie. Wanted to help the school. They would put these signs on the door to let the teacher know you didnt cut off the light. The teachers, they would call us the energy patrol. So they would be like, here they come, turn off your lights those three young ladies were teaching the whole school about energy efficiency. We actually saved 50,000. And thats just one school, two semesters, three girls. Together, were building a better california. This friday is veterans day. Were featuring reports and interviews on and about veterans leading up to the veterans day holiday. Were talking about the financial help for those who have served our country. Which vets are eligible to a va home loan and why are not more taking advantage of the right that they have earned. We are joined about a Mortgage Branch manager. Thank you for coming in. Thank you for having me. I was curious about how many of these va loans are given and are veterans utilizing them . You said you are quite busy. Yes. The Knowledge Base is not out there as much as it should be. 13 of our 22 million veterans have taken advantage of the va loans. I was always curious between the va loan and the fha loan. What do you tell the vets when they come in . Not all of the specifics but the general highlights. Va loans are amazing loans. 100 financing in most cases. The fico score doesnt have to be great. Their credit doesnt have to be great. And they have a lot of buying power. They dont have to pay as many fees as you would on an fha loan. You dont have mortgage insurance. So you have 100 financing with no monthly mortgage insurance. What about the wait . Does it take longer . No. It is a quick process. Yeah. I struggle because i have read stories people saying using a va loan can be cumbersome or time consuming. I might find a seller who dont want to deal with a va loan and are giving cash offers. What are some of the stumbling blocks. You have to have a clear pest report when you do a va loan. No termites. Right. Or bugs. Most buyers who do conventional fha want a clear pest report too. Its not really a stumbling block per se like it was 10, 15 years ago. Are all veterans eligible for va loans. Veteran thats have served in the military for six years, active duty, reservist are six years reserve. So most veterans are. When you sit down and youre across the desk, do you ever realize what he or she has done for the country . Do they relay the stories and you get a sense that these veterans are just grateful to be to be here and having this these loans be provided for them . Do they tell you that . Yeah. It is amazing talking to some of our veterans. It is amazing what they have gone through for our country and this is just a small thing that the government and us can provide back to them for their service. So many people see veterans on the streets. Eets. And its a heart breaking sight. You think if anybody deserves the very best that the country can give is this man or this woman. Tell us what you want veterans to know about a va loan that they may not know about already. You can have a beautiful home. You can have a safe place to live that maybe they dont realize that its out there. That theres financing, that theres an opportunity with great Interest Rates. And flexibility for them that they dont have to live on the streets. Certainly buying a home in the bay area is not an easy task for anyone. If youre friends of a veteran and watching at home, spread the word and get it out there. The other thing they dont know is the Interest Rate reduction loans. You just have to be purchasing. You can do a loan where you lower your monthly. Like a refi. Yes. Theyre lowering their Interest Rate dramatically to help them. They dont have all of the to overcome a lot of the Different Things you that would on a conventional loan. Thank you for coming in. Thank you for having me. Coming up next on mornings on 2 the 9, getting from one side of the bay to the other in just minutes. We will look at the private Ferry Service to help with the long commutes. A look inside bay area classrooms. What teachers and students are staying about this often contentious president ial campaign. It looks like sal has made it to his polling place in alameda. This is a live picture there. There is mr. Sal castaneda. We will be talking to him in just a bit. And we will give you a live look there at the other folks casting their ballots on this election day. Is the internet back on . No. Is the internet back on . No is it back no sweetie, call any one of your friends who has internet and have them read us the internet honey its not swiping come on. What are you doing . I have no idea what games are streaming right now, so i thought i would just root for everyone. Get at t internet with over 99 reliability. And an everyday price with no extra monthly fees. Keep calm your internets on. Welcome back, everyone. Were checking twitter right now. The question of the day is why are you voting or not voting on this election day . And on the twitter feed, i havent seen a lot of people say theyre not voting. Royalty soul said vote something a vital part of being a citizen. Be the change that you want to see in the world. This is why i vote. Perez chimed in saying i believe that voice is heard when i vote. And then one more demaryius said i believe it would be irresponsible not to. It is your duty as a citizen. I have seen a couple people on facebook say they are not voting. Martinez says i am voting to talk about my perspective in all of this. Historical election. Another one says i vote because my dad taught me how important did the at a it is at a young age. My mom just called me to remind me to vote. On this election day, we have Team Coverage across the bay area where polls have been open for the past two and a half hours. Janine de la vega is in san jose where people are casting ballots. But we begin with allie rasmus who is at a polling center. Reporter were in the Contra Costa CountyElections Division in martinez. People have come here to fill out their vote and study up on the issues. This is one of the 280 voting locations. People are filling out their ballots here if they havent already turned in one of their early ballots, mailin ballots. About a third of the voters have already voted by early vote or mailin ballot. About the same percentage in alameda county. Election officials we have talked to across the east bay say it is the trend in many bay area counties. 65 of voters in contra costa and alameda counties requested mailin ballots this year. Election workers started their day at 5 30 this morning and already started scanning the early ballots. They wont tabulate the results until 8 00 tonight. Some of the important issues on the ballots in the east bay, measure rr to give bart additional funding. We have heard people say they are following a lot of the local races and elections. But janine de la vega who is in the south bay this morning in san jose is taking over our election coverage from over there. Janine. Reporter in Santa Clara County, they are expecting 80 to 85 voter turnout. Lets look what it looks like inside. Earlier this morning at 7 00 a. M. , there was a line of people waiting to go vote. So it looks like here there are several people voting. There are actually two precincts being represented here at the polling place. I checked in at one. 40 peop had voted. The other one, almost the same. 38 people had voted. So the ballot here in Santa Clara County is the longest one theyve ever had in history. Three pages long. A lot of issues being voted on. Pension reform for San Jose Police officers. A lot of people say it has been tough with so much to studdie and sometimes the language is confusing on the propositions and measures. When we asked people what has the most important thing been in the election, most people say the president ial race. More than onethird of registered voters have already early voted or voted by mail. Hundreds of thousands are voting today at the polls. Inside the raj afters office, we were there earlier, it is already very busy. Vote by mail ballots are being opened and sorted and counted. Election officers here are saying if anyone encounters any problems, that there is a hotline for people to call if they want to report something or if theres any sort of problem. So far so good here. This has not a fairly steady stream of people coming in to vote. Back to you. Thank you,. Facebook is sharing some of its data on how the election is being discussed on the social network. In total 128 Million People on facebook generated 8. 8 billion interactions in the last month related to the election. Those include likes, posts, comments and shares. There were 934 million interactions about Hillary Clinton. And more than 1 billion interactions about donald trump. Facebook also shared the top ten moments of the campaign. The first was the second president ial debate on october 9th. Number two, the release of the Access High School ewood tape. The third was the first president ial debate on september 26th. Governor jerry brown voted in sacramento just about an hour ago. The stakes are high nationally with hillary. Very important. And here in california, we have a very important measure to vote no on. Thats 53. The governor was accompanied by his dog sutter. Governor brown has been a vocal against proposition 53 which would require voter approval before the state can issue bonds for projects more than 2 billion. A big ballot measure in california we have been talking about is proposition 64. 64 would make Recreational Marijuana legal for adults. The initiative is aimed at establishing detailed rules for the growing, selling and use of marijuana. If it passes, prop 64 would allow the growing and possession of marijuana immediately but it could take a year for retail sales to begin. There are two measures on the california ballot that pertain to the Death Penalty. Prop 62 would repel the Death Penalty and replace it with life in prison without the possibility of parole. Proposition 66 would keep the Death Penalty but speed up the appeals process in part by hiring more attorneys to represent inmates. More high interest measures here. Proposition 57 would raise the tobacco tax by 2 per pack. Money raised would go to health programs. Proposition 58 would repel the band on bilingual education. It would allow education offices and School Districts of each county to make their final decision on bilingual education. Lets move to 63 which bans the sell and possession of large capacity ammunition clips. 63 would also impose background checks for those buying ammunition. Dont forget our election day coverage continues at noon. Starting at 4 00 today, ktvu will bring you the first results from around the country and we will be on air nonstop with results throughout the bay area and the state after the polls close here at 8 00. If you must leave the television, take us with you. We have full coverage on ktvu. Com and you will get up to the minute results on your smart phone through the ktvu app. Lets check in with sal right now. He left at the beginning of the newscast to go vote in alameda. Sal, a lot of people voting with you . Yeah. A lot of people are here. It is pretty crowded. Not too crowded. No long lines or anything. But this is the First Congressional Church in alameda. This is where im going to drop off my mailin ballot. You can drop it off anywhere if you vote in alameda county. This is a spot that you can drop it off as well. People seem excited and happy. They get their stickers. I want to talk about the sticker. The sticker is very important. To one person we just found Michelle Morris of alameda. Good morning, michelle. Good morning, sal. You said okay i have to get my voting in before i go to work. I asked you why dont you vote by mail and you said because. I have to get that sticker. Thats part of voting sometimes. You have the sticker. You wear it proudlyand are going to wear it all day. Oh, yeah. When it comes to voting, a lot of people vote by mail. Did you figure out who you were going to vote for early or did you wait to decide to see, especially the president ial candidates, what they would say at the end or did you have your mind made up. I had any mind made up for the president. But for the proposition i had a voter guide party this saturday with some friends of mine. And we discussed the issues. And then we made our minds up on our own. Got it. And when you came in, was it easy pretty easy to vote here . Oh, yeah. Totally easy. You walk in. People at the counter gave us our cards and i stood over there. It took me a few minutes and i was done. Michelle morris, thank you. You voted. Now you dont have to worry about it. Have a good day, michelle. Thank you. Reporter so we are here. I talked to some of the people here. It doesnt get too crowded. A little bit of energy in here and a lot of smiles on peoples faces. You do get the sticker here obviously. I remember i took my one monthold baby boy to vote in the 2008 election. Have you seen any parents bringing Young Children into the polling place with them. Yeah. We saw a few. There are not any in here right now. We saw a few. Everyone from Young Children with their parents to senior citizens, all getting out here to vote. Ill be picking my son up at school today and we will go with me as we go off to the polling place. For the past few months, weve seen the president ial candidates chris cross the country saying and doing whatever they can to get your vote. What about the next generation of voters who are not quite old enough to head to the polls but are aware of what is going on . Recently on bay area people, Claudine Wong put together two panels of teachers one from oakland the other from the seven hills school. Its a private school in walnut creek that teaches children from preschool up to 8th grade. They all said that their students have a lot of questions, especially in such an election as this. I view that as probably the most important thing to come out of this process. At this able, were introducing them to what liberal means and what conservative means. I want them to vote. If i get nothing else out what was they take away from the election is they will be civically engaged when they turn 18. Next claudine went to the middle School Students at the 7 hills school and high School Students in oakland and asked them about what they thought about the campaign and the candidates. Here is what they had to say. Tell me what you think of president ial election. Have you been follow thanksgiving. I have seen it here and there. A lot on social media. Its been a lot on facebook and what has been going on. But i havent really paying attention to it. Whatever the outcome, this is going to be a historical election. I think its a lot of low blows. A lot of low blows. A lot of rudeness between the two candidates. I dont think that president ial candidates should be behaving like that. Do you have a strong opinion about how it should end up . No, i dont think that i have a very strong opinion. Although my parents do. Parents do. So i try my best not to be biased. This president ial election thats a lot of hatred i have noticed. There are people who have so much hate towards other candidates. At my house we dont often talk about politics. My parents believe that your political opinion is your political opinion. L opinion. To be honest, im not really a trump supporter. Latina, i dont think what he is saying is a good thing. There are people who do support him and its like they have a biased vision of how mexicans are and its like theyre judging a book on its cover. Theyre not necessarily knowing the story of what they go through. I come from a very political family. We always talk about it at home. The news is always on. So im very active in it. And i know a lot about it. And i think that it is going to be a historical election because we have we could either have a first woman president or a first president who hasnt been in a political position before. Its like hillary is there just for the fall back of donald trump. Anybody else but donald trump. And then it just happens to be Hillary Clinton. So i guess thats the interception. I dont think it should be like that. It should be someone that you really believe that they deserve to be running this country. I do not like trump. I cant stand him. But i dont exactly have a lot of love for hillary either. Would you want to vote. I was thinking about it but i would rather stay out of it. Its not something that i find a lot of interest in at the moment. Does it make you want to vote . No, not this year. I will definitely vote because its my constitutional right. And i think that a vote unused is a vote wasted. I think its very important to vote because you can change the future of your country and every vote really matters. Yeah. I definitely want to vote because i feel like if i dont do something, if i feel runway or another about a certain candidate, if you dont do something about it and the outcome is something that i dont want, i havent done anything to change it. Claudine joining us in the studio this morning. A lot of interesting responses. I like when the young man said my parents, we dont like at that talk about politics at home. But theyre talking about it at school. I want to hear what they have to say. Not influence your decision. Did you get a lot of that from your students. Some of them do. Some of it get it from home. Depending how adamant their parents are feel going it. In school, it is very am testimony i can. The teachers are saying a couple of the teachers say for the first time they told the kids how they stood on certain topics. Not necessarily which candidate theyre voting for but i dont stand for this and i dont stand for that. That is the first time in 25 years that some of them have taken a stance like that because of the election. Theyre trying to build kids they said this is something for the High School Kids. They will be hitting the polls next. Even for the 12yearolds, who is elected gets a couple terms, this is how they interpret what theyre seeing in terms of the process. Are they seeing a lot of frustration from the results. My 6yearold last night asked me are you voting for donald trump and hell hill. And my husband and i have never said those names at the dinner table. Theyre get thanksgiving at a young age. They are getting the sense of the fighting. The trade agreements may be too much to get through and some of the big issues. But the tone they pick up the tone. When youre talking about kids who have been told how they should talk and engage, it is interesting how they look at protases. We always try to get viewers at a younger age engaged here. Same with the process of voting. You want them to get in the booth and theyre 18. Absolutely. You talked to teachers from two different districts. Yes. Did you get a sense that there are two different approaches how they teach what is going on right now. At the end of it, it is a very academic situation of saying we are going to take away some of this but look at this and how it plays in history. Whether people consider this dirty politics or whatever, how does that relate to other elections that we have seen. How does it stand in history and how we look at it. You take away the accusations and say look at our process and how it has shaped us and look at where we have come from. And then when you start doing that into different perspectives, they can study it in a way that takes the emotion out of it on some level so they study until they realize that it is a historic election. Right. They learn that part of and their role in it as voters and citizens and how it plays together. I love hearing from youth because i feel like when i was in high school, we werent doing it this way. There was not that much talk about it. Speaking of hearing from the youth, you want to bring us more of their stories this weekend. Right. You talk about mike just asked about the differences. Well, the next subject that we tackled owe oat idea was how do we make this a teachable moment. How do we come out saying we learned something from this . We do that by asking the same question to the panel of teachers and children about black lives matter and Colin Kaepernick and how you teach that in the classroom and where they think it will stand in history. They had interesting things to say. If you contrast walnut creek and oakland, there you have different experiences among the kids, from their families. Different populations. Different populations and demographics, different personal experiences that kids might have and it becomes a very interesting conversation but also one that the teachers are passionate about teaching this and helping their kids they dont interpret it for them but teaching them how they can and giving them the tools to interpret it.
