A lot of us are trying to ring the last delicious i saw brian on the drive. He opened in the stones in denver, i was surprised to see them. They were all dressed in white. He was good. He was fantastic. Very nice. Thanks for joining us this morning on the 9, were continuing our back to school, so many parents are making that push to the little ones to school fed and dressed. Well talk about that in the morning and back pack give aways. Its not friday like. It wasnt. At 4 45 when i hit the road with the bart delay, many bart riders scrambled to find alternative modes of transportations. Track issues for systemwide delays, service is almost back to normal. Brian flores has been talking to passengers and he joins live from San Francisco, brian . The good news is that trains are moving in both directions here this, is the station that was mainly affected. 24th street, weve been here since 6 00 this morning. Many people are frustrated, some scrambling to get to other services so they can get to their destination, the good moves, trains are in the directions, we saw commuters scrambling to get on Ride Sharing Service or taxis and to get them to the airport or somewhere to go. The employees or sfo are trying to get to the passengers, service was stopped to sfo for a while this morning because of what bart says is a bad insulate that failed. About 5 45 this morning, it came in contact with an electric tied third rail. Because of that there was a debris fire, it had to be called in to put it out. Passengers were concerned at the time. Wall of the track service, its a 40 year system, things are bound to happen, as things are happening everywhere all over the plates. Its crazy, we need to go off and i dont know where to go, im trying to get to the airport and im not sure how to get there. We were on the platform at 6 30 this morning when bart sent out an inspection train to make sure the tracks were clean another train came by 5 minutes after that to take passengers the rest of the way along the peninsula and sfo, and that being said even though bart says service is recovering, i do expect at least this point minimal delays as we take it back out here, at the last check, its mainly because youre going to be moving those trains between the the two points, good news, both trains are moving in both directions on the system this morning. This is live in San Francisco at 24th street mission. Oakland police were saying that he was attacked in the window, and it happened at 4 30, we dont know the womens condition right now. One person is in custody. Were trying to see if it was a random act or if the the two knew each other. A jet blue from sacramento to boston, two dozen members and two dozen people were hurt from turbulence. The plane went straight down in bad weather. And jet blue flew the passengers to boston. The city continues to look for a Permanent Police chief. Listen to what the mayor told clark yesterday when dave asked the mayor about it on facebook live. Ive lived in the area all my life i look at the weather in the morning, highway can it possibly get sunny when it looks like this. And how can it be so beautiful when it looks and feels like this. It provides us with that shelter and by the afternoon when all of those clouds burn away we have good weather coming our way and thats what will happen for the bay area communities today. Heres a live look across the bay where those clouds are beginning to pull apart and for the afternoon were mostly clear away from the coastline, well be partly cloudy at the coast with low 60s expected there, around the day, 79 in hayward, 83 hayward city, well see temperatures a few degrees warmer today where we were yesterday. Upper notes for some of those hotter spots, saturday looks even warmer, as we get into sunday temperatures will pull back some and continue to follow as we get pack to monday. Who wants to talk about monday well look at the micro climate summertime pattern that we love. The president ial race, 70 republicans have signed an order to cut off funding to donald trump. In the letter they, say, fear Donald Trumps divisiveness and recklessness will have a negative effect on senate and house races across the country. They said they should use funds for those races and hes admitted he has a problem. Utah is a different place, its has anyone heard from utah. I didnt think so. Were having a problem. And Hillary Clintons campaign is facing its own problems. New emails showed a close relationship between the state department when she served as secretary of state and the clinton foundation. Cooking budgeting and conflict resolution. And curse i have writing cursive writing, we all know cursive, i dont know if kids do. Not that i use it all the time. Keep the conversation going, well talk more about this question coming up at 9 30. Are you ready for some football. The raiders, theyre going to kick off the season, the arizona cardinals, well have that up next with steve apple bomb. Taking a peek of things, the dow jones is down by 50 points, not much in the way of movement on the nasdaq or s p. Turning to the olympics, another stanford woman gets a gold, she becomes the first africanamerican woman to win an individual event in a swimming competition. She tied for first place, her time was 52. 6 seconds its an olympic record. The Stanford Athletic Department said a wild moment in a historic moment. It wont be soon forgotten. Phelps won his 22nd gold medal. Its his 13th individual gold. In ancient greece, 2100 years ago, and hes going to go for the 100meter butterfly. Simone piles is the womens all around champion. This 4foot 8inch dynamo exceeded her expectations and shell be remembered as one of the greatest american gymnasts of all time. When she sticks that landing i get chills. Im very proud of that floor performance. Lets talk about the football field, the Oakland Raiders play the arizona cardinals. Lets go to sports with jason applebaum. Ive been tired of people saying the raiders have so much potential and this and that. I see a ten win season if not better, what are your feelings about the raiders going in . Thats pretty bold, but i like it. No, its a nice prediction, they do have the talent, the team keeps talking about how much talent they have, and they landed in arizona about 14 hours ago for this preseason game, its basically about evaluating players on the roster, getting some rest in for the starters and staying healthy and i was up at camp earlier this week, lots of positive energy, probably due to the talent level, and here is derrick car, heres what the quarterback is saying about the first three season game. Its time to go, i think going into this one, obviously, we probably wont play, you know a full game, you know, but well play somewhere in between there and it will be fun. This team right here, talent wise, very talented compared to last year. Obviously, hopefully our record will show that, what we earned. Yeah, so, theyre saying all of the right things. The head coach says he wants to see the team play clean football, and theyve made a lot of mistakes. Decision battles there are a few. Most of the decisions are set for del rio, and there are some to look at some of the positions is for the fourth and fifth wide receiver spot. Have you to look at some of the positions, im liking this, i talked about it earlier, this kid johnny holten, hes one of 11 kids in his family. He didnt play high school football, he played flag football, he was playing in a park and a Junior College scout saw him and offered, said do you want to play at this Junior College, and he played for two years and he went to cincinnati and you see him at 16, guys like that he should get lots of playing time and compete for a spot on the roster, thats really what youre looking for out of these games other than just to make sure the starters stay healthy, expect them to go a quarter or less with first team. One the things across the bay the 49ers have said with the quarterback controversy, theyre going going to wake to see if kaepernick and galvin are going to be hit. What about the raiders, is the coach looking for something or is it just kind after meaningless preseason . You know i guess its a talking point for him, but i think he says we want to play clean football. So, hes looking at them, and they have more players on the roster than the 53 men that theyre going to go into the season with, what they want to do is keep those starters healthy, they want to give them enough reps to get some momentum to head in for the regular season, they want to give them a good look at the players, Deandre Washington and other players on the team. Thats amazing, these guys dont want to get hurt. They want to get healthy in the regular season. Jason applebaum on the 9s, i want to thank you so much. Coverage starts at 7 00. Coming up here on mornings on 2, its world elephant day, and a recent look at a trip to africa and a look at elephant poaching. And kids going to School Without the proper vaccine. A look at requirements for younger students. We are wrapping up back to school here on the 9. Were talking about the requirements for vaccines from all students from kindergarten to college. This year kindergarteners wont be allowed into School Without vaccines. We have been at the center of the solutions and the solution to Serious Health epidemics. Governor brown passed the strictest mandate in the us, it eliminates that box parents used to check to exempt their child from some or all of the required vaccines. I cant imagine that someone can tell the Police Officer that they dont believe in the law and that they would be allowed to continue that behavior especially if accidents were occurring because of that. Thats exactly what he said was happening especially here in marin county. In 2013, 8 of kindergarteners were opted out of vaccines. And there is been dangerous diseases, marin had 300 cases of whooping cough, the highest in the state. Its fulltime for our staff, for about two weeks trying to track down each person who may have been exposed to those children and see whether or not theyve been vaccinated. One child who could not be vaccinated for many years was rett, and he was fighting leukemia and they pushed for family vaccinations. If our daughter got sick while our sons immune system was suppressed and she brought it home it could impact his cancer treatments and he could die. You face that reality, there are Vulnerable Children who are being exposed to life threatening injuries illnesses lifethreatening illnesses. It doesnt solve the problem yet. All incoming kindergarteners and incoming 7th graders must be uptodate on vaccinations to go to public or private school. First or 6th graders who have been exempt are grandfathered in, doctors are hopeful that the message that vaccines work and are safe is getting through to more families. You can prevent the disease up front rather than have the treatment subsequently. Theres a lot to be said about the cost effectiveness of these as well. Thats the key, were not out of the woods as far as those kids with the suppressed immune systems, first through 6th graders dont have to have, theyre grand fathered in if theyve checked the personal exemption in past. You can update the little boy and families, hes in remission and fully vaccinated, hes happy, that story, but basically, the incoming kindergarteners and 7th graders, there are 10 mandatory vaccinations for them, you dont have them, youre home schooled, thats it. I wonder if were going if people are getting home schooled and parents feel passionate about it. There are some, i talk to a friend of mine, she knows a lot of people who sent their kids to a school and you might remember quite a few years ago, there was possible thoughts about linking vaccinations to autism, those studies were debunked. In fact, all of the authors on that study removed their name. Has that calmed parents down sort of . Yes. Were seeing fewer people that are afraid of vaccines as a result of that . Yes, the number of the percentage of parents who checked that box last year when they were able to was significantly lower than the year before or this year. Can private School Private as well. The only thing, its home school, thats it. You cannot be in a school setting. Okay its a big change . It is a big change. Pam cook thank you so much. A back to school continues this morning. We have some healthy and fun lunch ideas and couple of tips to get your child excited to bring their lunch to school. At at t, we believe in access. What do you think needs to be taught in california schools that isnt being taught or taught well enough now. A number of responses, earl painters says respect, and personal finance and drivers he had, common courtesy and manners, like it or not people judge each other on it. Commonsense, overcoming technology addiction, and how not to do social media to avoid regretting future judgment. Communication skills, self perception, listening and empathy and emotional intelligence. I asked ugh this question, you thought coding needed to be taught in schools. It should be taught, maybe an elective and get more young girls weve done stories about that, but you know, boys, girls and then into high school, i think its fantastic, if youre going to offer language, coding should be offered as well. Theres an option. When i went to college i was surprised how many of my future dorm mates didnt know how to do laundry. Thats a whole different thing. Put the quarters in pour some detergent. There are life skills as a take away. And i would drill it down to personal finances, i was taught a budget and what we need, and i didnt get any of that in the school. My parents taught me. We appreciate what youre sending on twitter. And we have the walk for Breast Cancer in the country. There was a big kick off in san jose. Jeanine day did he la vague a hosted that. This was to raise money to fund money for the american cancer society. One of the things focus you had on was the real men wear pink campaign. We hear about women with Breast Cancer. There are 1,000 men who are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in a year. Richard robinson, how did you find out that you got Breast Cancer, youre a survivor . Im a survivor for five years. There was a lump on my chest, i went to the doctor and low and behold i had Breast Cancer. It was quite what shock to me too. I didnt realize men could get Breast Cancer. I went,000 the same treatment people go through, radiation, radiation, chemotherapy, im on the same pills that women take for the next ten years, i encourage men seek treatment, i speak at fundraisers to help encourage research for Breast Cancer. And you said this has been a complete shock to you, you didnt know it could happen when other men, and you said the teenage boys hear that, what did they say. They are shocked that men could get Breast Cancer, every year a thousand to 1200 men in the us get Breast Cancer. A lot of men die from Breast Cancer because theyre unaware they can get it and it spreads. Youre going to be meeting your own team. The event is october 29th. Its a saturday and at the guadeloupe river parkway. Youre going to get members to raise money. Ill be walking and raising money, ill be wearing pink, real men do wear pink, ill be raising money for them, wearing pink every day to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. Thanks for speaking with us, richard robinson. Ill be mcing the walk at the guadeloupe river parkway. The registration, it opens up at 7 30, the walk starts at 8 30, the great thing about this walk is that theres no sort of, you dont have to pay for registration fees and theres no sort of goal, you dont have to fundraise the minimum of a thousand dollars, its come, if you can raise money, great, they encourage everybody to be out there. It should be a good time for a great cause. Back to you. Today is world elephant day, its help conserve and protect elephants, the latest estimates say 100 elephants are illegally slaughtered every day for ivory tusks that end up for the trinkets for the wealthy. He talked to people who are to blame and propose a radical solution. The chinese are building a vast new terminal, one of many projects they have under way in zambia and other nations. Some are engaged in the slaughter of rhino and elephant, other nations have some illegal trade in illegal ivory. Theyre weeding such illegal out. This is the founder of the elephant action league. 90 of the illegal trade is going to china. This is held in secret locations, theyve placed sniffer dogs for rhino horns and Elephant Tusks with some success. Chinas wildlife law is placing consumption over constellation. Protection is the exception. The chinese protect two of their sacred species. They revere pandas, they revere their own elephants. Unfortunately theyre not concerned about elephants and rhinos and other wildlife in other nations, they dont have the same concern. 1338 rhinos were poached in africa last year. The 6th year in the row where the number killed has increased. At an increasing rate the remaining 25,000 rhinos may be gone in a decade and elephants may be gone in 15 to 20 years. Its the ifers time in Human History that the destination is in the hands of one Single Person and its the president of china, he has to shut down the illegal domestic market in china and stop the enormous illegal ivory every year. Without it the elephants are doomed. China is banning illegal wildlife trade, the slaughter goes up. They could buy up the ivory illegally held for half a billion dollars yet the slaughter goes on. One suggestion i heard in africa several times, american zoos in dc memphis and san diego and those in other nations should deport the pandas back to china until they respect their own wildlife. Every panda belongs to china even the ones in american zoos, they have to pay 1 million a year to have a panda. Pandas conservation is paid with american money. I think its a great idea, push them a little more. He says deporting pandas would have big Public Relations with the chinese. Its a great idea. Out there already, hundreds of all kinds of petitions asking china to do this and that regarding wildlife trafficking and the consumption on wildlife, theres nothing around panda and you know think think its a good idea. Were joined live this morning, you traveled to africa you got to see some of this firsthand, did you get the feeling that the word is getting to these countries this wont be tolerated any more. I was in zambia and botswana, but zambia has a huge problem with poaching as does zimbabwe and botswana and theyre trying to do something about it. You have to cut off the demand. China can do what it wants, it can afford what it wants to pay for. It seems to be a tepid of response. We dont want to rile them it up. 100 elephants go to the elephant grade yard because somebody mamed them and took their tusks. What about sending the pandas back, would it work . I think they wouldnt like it, the American Public would not. They make great movie stars by animators, but the reality of the situation is that it is a thought, and it is something that the chinese take great pride in, but as much pride for other nations with their wildlife. Its sad when you realize that all these tusks here are being burned because they were seized from so, they cant be used. Thats right. Thats what should be done with all of them and if that happens, then theres no market for it. I see some of the pictures, not this video, but some of the still pictures you took yourself and getting so close to these animals, this is one of those animals, what is it like, ive never seen elephants in the wild, what was it like to be in the wild and see these creatures. They have an attitude, they protect their territory, its nothing like what theyre like in the zoo. They protect their children and babies, and if you get close theyll challenge you and if you get too close theyll ram your vehicle, and if youre on a walking safari you have to give them a wide berth, theyre a glorious animal, its a shame when you see this going on. When you see it personally, it touches your heart. A quick answer, i read today that there are some countries lobbying to overturn this ban because they make money on it . That and rhino horns. They are trying to do that, but think about this. Rhino horns are no longer taken because theyre supposedly after dissection, viagra came along and thats the end. But, now, theyre saying they cure cancer, were back to slaughtering rhinos, it needs to be banned. Its a World Heritage issue and no individual people should be able to somehow control this. Its a sin against nature. Thank you for reporting on this. Lets send it back to mike. Thank you. Its flashback friday and were taking a look at the story that shot the world during this week 47 years ago. This is a look back at the manson murders that took place on august 9, 1969. It was a massacre so horrifying that the details were unprintable, five people hacked to death with knives, strangled bludgeoned sexually mutilated and the killer so savage and remorse less they left hate messages on the walls, and an actress was stabbed over and over. It happened august 9, 1969. Four months Later Los Angeles Police arrested charles manson, a hippy cult leader. He spent 20 of his first 30 years behind bars. In juvenile did he things in jails and prisons in the dropout drug culture of the 1960, this little man of miss cal intentions and gift of gab, he attracted a band of young people who followed him to the ranch and the power he had over his followers seemed supernatural, they would do anything charlie told him, they thought he was jesus and he was a state and, and drugs and sex were his mechanisms for power. You could tell in the courtroom, you would watch him watch the girls and watch him watch them. We can all say we were responsible and we all accept a certain amount of responsibility. What you say you did not kill those people. No, even the district attorneys evidence doesnt put me on the scene of the crime. You he was found guilty and sentenced to death. In 1972, the Death Penalty was abolished and everyone on death row got a new sentence, life in prison. And while in prison, they remained loyal to charlie, what is this magnetism, people writing you wanting to meet you, your people that you had in the desert, what is the magnetism . Why dont you answer that question. Im asking that question . Cant you see. Cant you see . What do you think it is. Hes repull chicago in every sense of the word, he flies in the face of everything that is good, he represented evil. When might be released one parole board member said, if its up to me, never. For more details on this story go to ktvu. Com, you can find flashback friday on mornings on 2 tab. Were wrapping up backto school week with suggestions for school lunch. And more for your children and do you have what it takes, the best team in basket bomb. Im talking live of two warriors of the dance team about two open auditions. The Golden State Warriors are looking at the dance team. Im joined by two members of the squad, it works as a nurse and mirror, this is team cocaptain and marketing professional. Welcome. I have to talk hoops first, not to bring it back, but the nba finals, were you ticked off tabatha. It was a difficult pill to swallow, i was looking towards that win. It hurt. It hurt me too. What about you . We had the pain of game 7, but were looking forward to the season and were waiting to go in october. What is the energy like during your position during an nba finals. An amazing feeling, everybody nopes. Its the best fans in the nba and we get to perform in front of them and they cheer us on just like they cheer the team. You were new last year, youre hoping to repeat as champions, what was the energy like for you in the court. It was amazing, a great experience, being out there and dancing in front of 18 to 20,000 people, the adrenelin, it was so amazing. Are you fired up for kevin durant. Do you get to talk to the players. We see them at various appearances and we have rehearsals and watch the guys practice and thats about it. And theyre cool everything is good. Yes. What was it like for you, the open auditions you went last year to make the team. Whats it like . Well, last year, i mean there are so many girls there looking, the words of just one, theyre like 300 girls to audition, you walk in and you feel intimidated, one thing is to stay focused, dont be worried about the girl beside you or behind you, this is your journey, stay focused, i was focused on getting there and you might like a jazz routine and theres a cut and then they go not second round and theres another cut. But, heres the tricky part. Then they take this wasnt tricky already. Thats not it, so then they cut us down, we went down to 44 girls maybe and we went into a Training Camp and then your file is on thursday and its a bit intimidating. Are you in charge of making it . No, i am there. Im in the trenches with everyone else. This would be your. This would be my sixth sentence. Youre not guaranteed a spot even in your position. What about personality, is it all about dance or do they look at your personality too . Well have the interviews for the finalists everything comes down to your character and being a presentation not only the Warriors Dance Team but the warriors organization, were ambassadors at all times and making sure that character is at the top quality. Do you ever want to be a gold rush girl or im taking my time to the nba and i will audition for another spot. Theres always words with you, right . Well, i was a girl scout before, im a warriors found. Youre going to be a warrior again. Audition for the dance team, its saturday 10 00 a. M. , auditions are open to anyone 18 years and over at walnut creek. Registration begins at 9 00 a. M. Wrapping up our backtoschool week and healthy lunch ideas with gasia. Its a perfect threat. Im thrilled to be here with chef caterer, youre helping us make a transition to the school year. It depends on how that lunch is packaged for the little one, isnt it . There are so many cool products available. You should let your child have a hand in picking the lunch box or a couple of choices. You can pick one if you want. This one is mine. I dont want, if up have a hot wheels one ill take it. Its part of the ritual, this is the new back pack and its great. Talks about the choices you have up here, this is above the blowny sandwich a lot of us grew up with. Im working with things that kids will like. Every kid is different, you have to know what your kid even in a family, i have two and one likes this and the other likes that. Its hard work, i think its exhausting, most mothers, no more cooking, im done, its so much work trying to make everybody happy, were trying to give them something thats healthy but they will eat. Everybody has a different idea of whats healthy, for me its about fresh homemade food and avoiding the white flower anchoring if we can. Its harder for them to concentrate. Im going for protein, fat. I see a lot of crisp bars and kind bars, i dont see anything packaged or processed. I love those things sometimes, but there is a good amount of sugar in there. Help me out with recipes, lets start with recipes i never made, ranch dressing, for a lot of us it comes out of a bottle but it doesnt have to . We make our own homemade ranch in the catering company, its so easy. This is mayonnaise. Thats a full fat mayonnaise. I dont mess around reduce had fat things, thats my preference. Butter milk and fresh herbs. Dont let them see you put these herbs in there. Once they see its mayonnaise and buttermilk, its ranch. Ill bring this back to you. This is a little bit of garlic, parsley scallions and chives, i put a little salt and pepper on everything, your kids will like them more. Theres not a drop of sugar in what youre making, i know the bottled recipes have a lot of sugar in there. I stir this up, its easy and you can do it over the weekend, up put this in a fun container with the baby carrots. Theyre going to have a hard time eating the ranch without the carrots, its a trick. Before we move object to the next recipe this has been the best friend at home. Theyll eat it and stay hot. This has been next to us, absolutely. So, this is chicken, you can buy a chicken if youre rushed, cut up the chicken and just the mayonnaise. Can i be greedy and move on to the shake, ive never used aviette a mix, im a vita mix. This does not involve ice cream or root beer, how do you make it . Frozen bananas. Im trying to cut back sugar. If you have been in this is frozen enough. Ice. How much Peanut Butter . A nice dollop. I want to hit the button. Its exciting. I know. You can put it in here, here is the vitamix. Its a great moment. Dont mess my dress. And you push it up. Its so good. Oh, i love it. I love it. So, we can take a thermos and put it in the freezer and you can send the kids off to school. They can have it at lunch or pop it up and have them drink it while driving to school. And this is for your lunch box. And whats good about this, its milk bananas and unsweetened cocoa. Its a lot of nutrition, but tastes like desert. I popped up the recipes on ktvu. Com. Click the tab and thank you vitamix, i love you well be right back. 9 56 following breaking news, theres an incident and a garbage driver, they picked up an unknown something while making his or her rounds in newton court.
