Dying embers, remembrances that love lasts longer. And love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside. Messages of strength, love and support pouring in for the people of orlando and the lbgt community. Good morning and welcome to the 9. Alongside sal castaneda, alex savidge in for mike mibach. I am gasia mikaelian. We are hearing this morning from authorities in the orlando, florida. Just moments ago, Hospital Leaders there said five people are still in grave condition after that shooting at the nightclub. Police also explained how things unfolded during the nightclub shooting. We have Caroline Shively live this morning in orlando with the latest on the investigation. Good morning, caroline. Reporter good morning to you guys. It was a very interesting story told by the local police chief how they took this man down after threes hours. First, with a gun battle outside with that offduty Police Officer who is providing security. Then it moved inside the club. More of a gun battle. Then he ran into the bathrooms, barricaded himself into the bathrooms with four or five other terrified hostages. Thats when things cooled down for about three hours. Very different than what we have seen in recent hostage situations. If you think someone is going to die in the attempt, if they are going to commit suicide, you go in hard, you go in fast. But he kept them talking on the phone on 911 being cool, being calm until something triggered the police. They say they were afraid he had an explosive device and he would use it to kill the hostages. They put the explosive device on the wall. The explosive device didnt punch the whole way through through. They had to take an Armored Vehicle to punch a hole two to three feet wide, and thats when the gunman came through that hole and police were able to end his life. So thats the local information that we are getting on the federal level. You guys just heard from president obama. He is saying this morning that it appears the shooter was inspired by extremist information over the internet, that there is no clear evidence that he was directed externally. He said he pledged allegiance to isis at the last minute, but there is no evidence that this is part of a greater plot. But there is still a criminal investigation going on by the fbi. They are looking to see did anyone locally know what he was planning . Did anyone locally help him . Guys, back to you. Caroline, the fbi had contact. In fact, interviewed the shooter in recent years, and then essentially let him go . Yes. And that is the big question today. How did he get a gun then . 2013. He worked as a Security Guard. He has been working as one since searches. A coworker said, called up the fbi saying he is talking about having terrorist ties. They interviewed him twice. Closed the case. In 2014 a person said he was talking about connections to a suicide bomber. The fbi came in again. Another interview. He was legally able to buy the guns in the last week. The handgun and the Assault Rifle, because the fbi investigated, but it was close the. We are not sure if he was some type of watch list. It wasnt a watch list that would say you cant buy guns. You cant operate freely. So the fbi still investigating this. There are already bills proposed in congress. One senator proposing closing up some of those loopholes. This will have greater implications in florida. Thank you, caroline. Just about 20 minutes ago, president obama said there is no clear evidence the shooter at the orlando nightclub was directed to conduct his attack as part of a larger plot. The president spoke in the oval office after being briefed on the investigation by fbi director james comey and other officials. We have to counter extremism, but we also have to make sure it is not easy for somebody who decided they want to harm people in this country to able to obtain weapons. My hope is, is that over the next days and weeks, that we are being sober about how we approach this problem, that we let the facts get determined by our investigators, but we also do some reflection in terms of how we can best tackle what is going to be a very challenging problem not just here in this country, but around the world. He said its similar to the shooting in san bernardino. He added investigators are looking into the motivation of the shooter considering all possibilities at this point. Now, we expect to hear from the fbi in a live News Conference at 9 15. When that begins, we will bring you that coverage. And this morning survivors of the orlando nightclub attack are talking about the struggle just to stay alive as gunfire raged around them inside that crowded club. George ortiz was in the club, the pulse nightclub, and says he reacted as soon as he saw that man with an Assault Rifle shooting people. What i saw and i can actually hear was like bullets flying. The people that was on the floor, you know, when the body receive the shots, thats how thats the last thing i saw before i went to the rest boom. Thats when i went to the restroom and i pray for my life and the police came and save us. Orlando officials meantime set up a website where they are posting the names of all of the victims after their families have been notified. One of those families getting the sad news was that of 30yearold freddy justice. Justice chronicled the terror inside the nightclub in a series of Text Messages to his mother. She shared those with the Associated Press before finding out that her son was one of the victims. He text me at 2 06 and say, momly, i love you. In the club. There is shooting. That was at 2 06. Trapped in the bathroom downtown. Please call police. Im gonna die. Call them, mama, now. Authorities are still notifying the families of some of the victims, but all of the bodies have now been removed from the club. Okay. Well, San Franciscos Castro District was certainly a Gathering Spot for many people mourning what happened in orlando. Thousands came together at harvey milk plaza for a candlelight vigil. People said it was the only place they wanted to be to remember the victims and continue the fight for lbgt rights. Security also a big concern. Ahead of the pride parade and other pride celebrations that will be happening in San Francisco this month. I spoke with the chief of Police Yesterday and he and the department are extremely focused on making sure that pride season is safe, that a parade and festival are safe, that our bars and nightclubs are safe. One San Francisco supervisor scott weiner joined us live on mornings on 2 earlier today. He is working to schedule a safety meeting between castro Business Owners and San Francisco police later today. Meanwhile, people continue to leave messages of hope and condolences for the orlando shooting victims there at harvey milk plaza. A memorial is growing in new york city this morning as it becomes a place to mourn the victims. The manhattan bar was the site of the 1969 police raid that led to the street riots and ultimately launched the gay rights movement. People at that spot hugged, they prayed, and they left signs. In seattle, a rainbow flag on top of the famous space space needle has been lowered to halfstaff. The flag is on top of the landmark to celebrate gay pride month. Hundreds of people also gathered in a seattle park last night for an emotional candlelight vigil. Hillary clinton says she is joining the American People in praying for the victims. On facebook, clinton posted, quote, we need to keep guns like the ones used last night out of the hands of terrorists or over violent criminals, and she said this is the deadliest mass shooting in the United States and it reminds us once more that weapons of war have no place on our streets. President ial candidate Bernie Sanders had strong words for isis. It goes without saying, in my mind, that isis must be destroyed and that we have got to do everything humanly possible to prevent these types of tragedies from recurring again. Sanders expressed his condolences for the victims of the orlando nightclub shootings and he offered prayers for those who are injured and hospitalized. Sanders believes there should be a complete sales ban on automatic weapons. Republican president ial candidate donald trump tweeted, horrific incident in florida. Praying for all the victims and their families. When will this stop . When we get tough, smart, and vigilant . You can help us support the victims of the nightclub shooting. A gofundme account has been set up for the victims of that shooting at the pulse nightclub, and some of the money will go to the victims families. The site has been set up since yesterday morning and already more than 40,000 people have made donations. The groupie quality florida hopes to raise 2 million and whether distribute the money. A lot of people giving money, donating blood. A lot of people taking to social media sharing their thoughts and reaction to the mass shooting in orlando. This morning we dont have a specific question, but if you would like to share your thoughts and join the conversation about the shooting in orlando, please do tvuthe9. Cup on ktvu mornings on 2 the 9, we continue with reaction from the suspects ex wife. The problems she noticed right after they were married and how she got away. And up next we sit down with max steinmetz. The warriors prepare for game 5 without Draymond Green. Is so dont be afraid to let them show your true colors true colors true colors are beautiful welcome back. We are waiting any meant we expect to hear from the fbi into the investigation into the orlando nightclub shooting. We tackle the news of the day, including weather, which steve paulson, its going to change dramatically . No kidding. Cool for june. Thats for sure. Everything is on track it looks like for a rather significant cooldown and maybe, maybe some light rain as we head towards thursday for the north bay. Its not going to be very warm. Its going to be breezy to windy. Low clouds will get wiped out. Temperatures are coming down. You might want to use the extra super hold on the hairspray or put the hair up. This is going to be a really breezy and much, much cooler week. Temperatures in some of the most inland locations may struggle to reach 70 degrees. By that i mean clear lake and vacaville and antioch, brentwood, gilroy. That is by wednesday, thursday. There is plenty of fog. It should peel back to the coast. Look at that. 28, 32, south at concord, west at oakland, south at santa rosa, hayward and livermore. I mean, a breezy day. The inland terms are coming down. This is really for this time of year, i know there is not lot to work with you, but its quite strong and it will give us Cool Conditions and i think drizzle towards wednesday morning and then Late Wednesday into thursday. Possibility of some light rain to the north. 60s, 70s, and a few 80s on the tempts. I draw your attention to the highs wednesday and thursday. They are going to be very, very cool. We will see warmer weather by the weekend, you weekend, you guys. The weekend came to an end when the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the sharks 31 to win the stanley cup. The penguins scored first in game 6 on a power play in the first period. I think we have some video of this. There we go. There is the sharks score. A power play. The sharks up in the second on a goal by logan couture. But just about a minute later kris letang scored to give the penguins the lit back and they wouldnt give it back. They celebrated the franchise fourth stanley cup at sap. Its like hitting a wall. You have been going since september, we showed up here. 106 games. A special group. But only one team can win. Just disappointed. Its been a long journey. And just to see it end is tough. It definitely helps knowing that you have done it once before and that you can find that special group and put in the right work and have the right guys, the timing, you know, it can happen again. There is seems teams that have done . Penguins captain Sidney Crosby won the conn smythe mvp trophy. A lot of people did not agree with that. He had six goals and 13 assists in the playoffs. All right. From the sharks to the warriors. The warriors hoping for a better finish this season here. The warriors looking to wrap up their second straight nba title. They have a chance to do it tonight and win the backto back championship in front of a home crowd at oracle. They will play tonight though without their emotional leader, Draymond Green, after he was suspended by the nba. Matt steinmetz joining us this morning. Draymond, he does it all. What are the warriors going to miss most tonight without him on the floor . I think his intensity and the fact that he is the heartbeat of the team. He is their emotional leader. He gets them ready to play all the time. But its not the first time the warriors have played without one of their stars, whether its curry or klay. So i think they will be able to withstand tonight because of the home crowd and the emotion. I dont know if id like to be lebron james tonight. He is probably going to hear some boos, i would think. About lebron james, is it true and i dont know if it is that he actually lobbied to get Draymond Green suspended, or did the cavs lobby . Was there lobbying going on . Well, yeah. After game 4 lebron james was asked about it. He said i am sure the league is gonna look into that. Some people think that put pressure on the league to look into it, and they did, and draymond you know, its important to note, draymond didnt get suspended for this particular act. This was the culmination of three or four things. They have a point some. So this was like the last straw. It put him over the top. If the series doesnt end tonight, does draymond change house he plays in the next game . Thats a great question. I dont think so, because he was on the brink and he had been asked about this a lot and he said i am not going to change the way i play. So he has to keep that edge. It makes him such a great player. I think he will still be the same. He has to turn it down just a hair. With Draymond Green not playing, who do the warriors put . Probably Andre Igodala would get more time. Maybe they will use the center a little bit more. Mo speights. They have a deep team. Now its time to show that. I mean, you know, the conspiracy theorists might think this was upgrade today a flagrant foul behind closed doors. Some folks may think this is the nba looking to extend the series a little bit. Right. Obviously, they have something to gain in all of this. What do you make of that . My response is warriors fans have to realize that they have the best team in the league. So that if Draymond Green would not have gotten suspended, i think there would have been just as much talk the other way saying the league is afraid to suspend one of the stars of the best teams in the league and thats really unfair. Its a new way to look at the warriors. I mean, they are the hunted now. Thats one of the things they may have looked at. What do you think coach kerr is saying to Draymond Green behind closed doors . He is probably saying you got to chill out a little bit. But i am sure every coach draymonds had yeah. And draymond is like, he pushes it to the brink. Thats why he has such an edge in the first place. What makes him such a great player. Every once in a while he steps over. But i think the warriors will be able to overcome his absence tonight because oracle arena is j is going to be on fire. He may be next door at the as game. I saw a tweet that he may go to the as game. If they win, he can go to the celebration. A quick question about the sharks. Where do they go from here . Will they be back in it next year . They should be. This year they had no expectations and they got to the stanley cup finals. So if the one thing one thing about hockey is a lot can change in a year. We kind of have to wait to see how they look next year. Okay. Where are you watching the game tonight . Probably at my bunker. Mr. Man cave. Thank you for joining us this morning. The warriors hard at work tonight. The executive chef of the oracle is going to show us what he is needing hungry fans at 9 45. Coming up in a minute on mornings on 2, car breakins in San Francisco at an alltime high. The finger pointing on who is to blame. That is straight ahead. Hours after the orlando shooting, an alarming discovery in california. We will tell you about that coming up. The Dangerous Items found in the car of an indiana man who was headed to a gay pride celebration in west hollywood. Fans mourn the loss of muhammad ali as was laid to rest on friday. Some are visiting alis grave in historic Cave Hill National Cemetery leaving flowers and photos honoring the man they call champ. For me, its really inspirational because he didnt back down. Times he could have, he stood up and he spoke out. When i was little, thats one thing, you know, that we did. Like, if there was a saturday night fight, you watched it with your dad. Muhammad ali died june 3rd in arizona after a 32year battle with parkinsons disease. He was 74 years old. He is survived by his wife and nine children. A Memorial Service set for later today for a Novato High School student killed in a brutal attack. Police say 17yearold edwin guerra was shot and attacked with a machete on may 25th. A second student was also attacked here, but survived. Now, two of the victims classmates have been charged with murder and attempted murder, and a third person remains at large. A fourth man has also been charged as an accessory to that crime. Now, that memorial will take place at our lady of laureateo church. Then the planning is planning to bury guerra in guatemala. Earlier today the fbi director james comey spoke with president obama. Lets get a briefing from the fbi on the investigation. Extraordinary work so far in their dedication. I have been in contact with the attorney general, who is currently on her way back from china, and continues to monitor developments in the case. Words really cant express the depth of our sorrow or the measure of our grief for losses suffered by those and lives that have been changed forever. What happened in orlando yesterday was a horrifying act. A horrifying act of evil and terror. For the lbgt community, pulse was more than just a place to go and celebrate and see friends. It was a place that promised inclusion and freedom to be themselves. The same promise that our country holds for everyone. This was an attack on that promise. It was an attack on our values as a country and our national community. It was an attack on who we are as a nation and as a people. And our country as a whole stands united in response to this cowardly and despicable act. So with this i turn things over to director comey, who will provide Additional Details on where we are in the investigation right now. Thank you, sally. I want to echo what the Deputy Attorney general said just now. Our hearts are broken and ache for the people who were lost in orlando. Those wounded and fair families. We are so sorry for your loss and suffering. I also want to say a word of thanks and express admiration for the work of local Law Enforcement in orlando. They showed professionalism and extraordinary bravery that saved lives. And last i want to say a word of thanks to the people who rendered care that saved lives at the scene. The docs, emts, nurses, victim specialists, and thard another citizens. You showed us the best part of humanity in the midst of terrible loss. As you know, this is a federal terrorism investigation led by the fbi with the assistance, as we always do, of our state, local, and federal partners. The reason for that is there are strong indications of radicalization by this killer, and of potential inspiration by foreign terrorist organizations. We are spending a tremendous amount of time, as you would imagine, trying to understand every moment of this killers path to that terrible night in orlando to under his motives and to understand the details of his life. You will notice that i am not using the killers name, and i will try not to do that. Part of what motivates sick people to do this kind of thing is some twisted notion of fame or glory, and i dont want to be a part of that for the sake of the victims and their families. And so that other twisted minds dont think that this is a path to fame and recognition. So what i want to do is give you a sense of what we know so far and then tell you as much as i can about our past contact with the killer. We are going through the killers life, as i said, especially his electronics to understand as much as we can about his path and whether there was anyone else involved, either in directing him or in assisting him. So far we see into indication that this was a plot directed from outside the United States, and we see no indication that he was part of any kind of network. It is also not entirely clear what terrorist group he aspired to support, although he made clear his affinity at the time of the attack for isil and generally leading up to the attack for radical islamist groups. He made 911 calls from the club during the attack at about 2 30 in the morning, sunday morning, and there were three different calls. He called and he hung up. He called again and spoke briefly with the dispatcher, and then he hung up. And then the dispatcher called him back again and they spoke briefly. So there were three total calls. During the calls, he said he was doing this for the leader of isil, who he named, and pledged loyalty to, but he claimed solidarity with the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombing and man who died as a suicide bomber in syria, a group in conflict with the islamic state. The bombers at the Boston Marathon and the suicide bomber from florida were not inspired by isil, which as a little bit to the confusion about his motives. And of course we are working to understand what role antigay bigotry may have played in motivate this attack. This occurred in the month that we recognize and celebrate our lbgt brothers and sisters. Again its early. We are working hard to understand the killer and his motives and his sources of inspiration. But we are highly confident that this killer was radicalized and at least in some part through the internet. So thats what we have been doing. Now let me tell you what i can go b the fbis prior contact with the killer. We first became aware of him in may of 2013. He was working as a Contract Security guard at a local courthouse and he made some statements that were inflammatory and contradictory that concerned his coworkers about terrorism. First, he claimed family connections to alqaeda. He also said that he was a member of a shiite terrorist organization that is a bitter enemy of the socalled islamic state. Isil. He said he hoped that Law Enforcement would raid his apartment and assault his wife and child so that he could martyr himself. When this was reported to us, the fbis miami Office Opened a preliminary investigation. Over the next ten months we attempted to determine whether he was possibly a terrorist. Something we do in hundreds and hundreds of cases all across the country. Our investigation involved introducing Confidential Sources to him, following him, recording conversations, reviewing transactional records from his communications, and searching all Government Holdings for any possible connections. Any possible derogatory information. We then interviewed him twice. He admitted making the statements that his coworkers reported, but explained that he did it in anger because he thought his coworkers were discriminating against him and teasing him because he was muslim. After ten months of investigation, we closed the preliminary investigation. Two months later, in july of 2014, the killers name surfaced again in an indirect way. Our miami office was investigating the florida man who had blown himself up for the nusra front in syria. Thats an alqaeda group in conflict with isil. And we learned from the investigation that the killer knew him casually from attending the same mosque. Our investigation turned up no ties between the two of them. In the course of that investigation, one witness told us when asked do you know anybody who might be radicalizing, he had once been concerned about the killer because he mentioned alaqui videos. The witness concluded he later god married and got a child and a job as a Security Guard so he was no longer concerned about him. Our investigation again turned to interview the i will canner to find out if he had any contacts with the suicide bomber. Determined that he did not. In the inquiry, continued focusing on the suicide bomber with no further focus on the orlando killer. We will continue to look forward in this investigation and backward. We will leave no stone unturned. We will work all day and all night to understand the path that terrible night. We will look hard at our own work to see if there is something we should have done differently. So far, the honest answer is i dont think so. I dont see anything reviewing our work that the agents should have done differently. Our work is very challenging. We are looking for needles in a nationwide haystack. But we are also called upon to figure out which pieces of hay might some day become needles. That is hard work. If we can find a way to do that better, we will. We will also do our best to be transparent about what we find going forward, consistent with our need to do an investigation in a good way. But we will tell you as much as we possibly can. Let me close by saying something i have said before. We know this killing is upsetting to all americans. We hope that our fellow americans will not let fear become disabling because that is what these savages want. We hope that, instead, you will channel this sense of anxiety into something more positive, which is an awareness of your surroundings and the seeking of opportunities to help your fellow americans, as we saw with the tremendous lines of people giving blood in orlando. If you channel that anxiety into awareness, you can live your life and allow those of us who are paid to investigate and to stop terrorists to do that work while you live the full life that this great country offers you. If you see something, tell us so we can look at it. Every single one of our cases, as we look back, somebody always sees something they should have told us and they didnt. So our request to you is please dont let them make you work into a state of anxiety that is disabling. Find ways to channel that into a healthy awareness of your surroundings and live your lives. We will keep you posted. Listening to fbi director james comb any speaking in washington after briefing the president this morning saying the gunman in orlando, florida, had strong indications of radicalization. At this point the fbi is working to understand the killer and the motive. The director called the killer, and he wouldnt say his name, and he is not going to do that because he these people seek fame by doing these actions. He called him a savage indirectly. He seemed slightly angry. He touched on the fact that because this took place at a popular gay nightclub in orlando, they are looking into how much antigay bigotry played a role in prompt this attack as well. Right, as they comb through his digital files, they are looking at that. They are also talking in greater detail about the previous contacts the fbi with the gun han in may of 2013. He was working as a Security Guard at that point. There was some question, concern raised. The fbi, they put in Confidential Sources. They essentially trailed him. They even interviewed him in person. They closed their investigation under the belief that he was no longer a threat. The investigation was reopened in 2014. Again, that investigation closed as well. You heard director comey referring to, you know, pieces of hay and which piece of hay will turn into a needle in the haystack they are combing through. We will they do these interviews all the time. Hundreds. They are conducted on a regular basis, searching for people with terrorist ties. We will continue to follow that story. We are going to talk more about the victims here, which is obviously what the fbi director, where he would like the focus to be. One victim in particular of the Orlando Shootings singled out by harry potter author j. K. Rowling. She said luis vielma worked on the harry potter ride at universal studios. He was 22 years old. She said i cant stop crying. Another universal employee also at the nightclub was injured and remains in intensive care. Muslim leaders here in the u. S. Have been offering condolences to the victims, to the families, to the victims and prayers for the survivors. The head of the council on americanislamic relations says hateful rhetoric that incites violence must not be tolerated. He drew connections between muslims and the lbgt community. For many years, members of the lbgt poia community have stood shoulder to shoulder with the Muslim Community against any act of hate crimes, islamophobia, marginalization and discrimination. Today we stand with them shoulder to shoulder. And he also called the shootings in orlando a hate crime, adding muslims have no tolerance for extremists of any kind. The bay area leader of care is calling for positive action now saying in a statement, quote, we are horrified by this tragedy and encourage all people to donate blood to support the various victims funds and attend vigils in their neighborhoods. We are stronger when we stand together against hate. The exwife of the gunman is talking about him now and says he appeared to be normal right after their marriage, but she says problems quickly developed. A few months after we were married, i saw his instability and i saw that he was bipolar and he would get mad out of nowhere. Thats when i started worrying about may safety. Then after a few months he started abusing me physically very often and not allowing me to speak to my family. Keeping me hostage from them. And i try to see the good in him, even then, but my family was very tuned into what i was going through and decided to rescue me out of the situation. Her family had to physically pull her out of mateens arms the night she left him. Instability. Emotional instability. Sickness. Mentally he was mentally unstable and mentally ill. Thats the only explanation i could give. He was obviously disturbed deeply and traumatized. Reporter do you know if he was diagnosed bipolar . I am not sure about that. But i know he had a history with steroids. She hasnt had contact with him in the seven years since they separated. An orlando Police Officer was shot in the head. His kevlar helmet stopped the bullet, saving his life. The Orlando PoliceDepartment Released this picture showing the severity of the situation and just how lucky the officer truly was. Now, the gunman in this mass shooting at the orlando nightclub used the same type of Assault Rifle as the shooter who killed to Elementary School students and six educators at sandy hook Elementary School in connecticut back in december of 2012. That sparked a protest yesterday in newtown, connecticut right in front of the headquarters of the gun manufacturers lobbyist, the National Shooting sports foundation. It was called by a group called sandy hook promise, which was formed after the School Shooting too prevent future gun deaths. Police in santa monica are investigating the intentions of a heading to a gay pride parade with guns and a bomb making materials. They found howell in his car with three Assault Rifles and chemicals that can be used to make a bomb. There are reports camouflage clothing was also found. Police said howell told officers he wanted to do harm at the gay pride event in west hollywood. Officers corrected that saying howell said he was heading there to look for a friend. Of the suspect did make an initial statement to the effect that he was gonna go to the pride festival. Beyond that, he did not make any additional statements that he was going to do anything further than than that. We dont have any Additional Information related to what his intentions were. One of howells friends tells the l. A. Times that howell has no bad feelings towards gays or lesbians and that howell himself a bisexual. Investigators are trying to determine what he intended to do with all those weapons in his car. They do say they dont believe this incident is connected in any way with the orlando nightclub attack. [ music playing ]. Sounds familiar to me. Boyd tinsley performed at the haightashbury street fair. He is by, joining us live on 9 11 this morning to talk about the great show you had this weekend. It was great. Crystal diamond is a band that i formed really about a year ago. I have been thinking about, like, just putting together a group of Young Musicians to carry on the tradition of, like, rock and jam bands and make sure that continues on. So i wanted do it organically. It took me about two years to find all these guys. But they got together in the studio at my place and magic happened and all this great music. Yesterday was their third show. They played for thousands of people. Wow you know what . San francisco has its tradition of some pretty good jam bands that come out of here. Exactly. You know what im talking about . Exactly. It was really cool because after the show a lot of the old hippies came up and said that they really loved it. When you get their approval, you know that youre doing the right thing. It took you so long to find the right musicians and right mix. Whats the sound you were going for . I had to sort like of vibe off of them, you know what i mean . I had to get the sense this is somebody that can improvise. This is somebody that can, like, create something on the spot. But so i just had to you know, i found people the singer is michael wasman. He was a contestant on the voice. I was like, thats my singer. You just know. You just know and feel it out. And its just incredible. I mean, they have such a chemistry together as a band. They have been writing great music and just are awesome on stage, you no. I am like a proud father. Ah lets talk about your instrument. The violin. I played it 100 years ago and i called myself an orchestra nerd. What we did in orchestra is nothing like what you do on stage. Do you think there is a disconnect because rock is cool. Jam bands are great. Violin is not cool. Talk to me about that. He makes it look pretty cool. He does. He does. You know, i started in School Orchestra as well. But hi a teacher that really taught me about, like, jazz violinist and rock violinist like Papa John Creech who played with Jefferson Airplane and stephon grapale, this jazz view lin player. Ever since i started playing violin, that was what i wanted to do. Its like i wanted to play rock. I wanted to play jazz. I wanted to get out in front. Stage and jam out. Jazz has a lot of connection to jams bands. Jazz musicians are always improvising. Thats what they do. So do jam bands, right . They absolutely do. Stanley jordan, a great fusion player. Actually plays with phil lesh and friends a lot. He is a jazz guy. I get to play with phil every now and then, too. Its a great experience. He actually recorded with crystal garden. And he is going to be doing a show with kristin garden in prove sense, rhode island, on the 7th of july. So its really great. Somehow by Great Fortune this band has been able to be in the great, you know, position to play like the haightashbury fair, to play with stanley jordan. When things like that happen, its almost like you know its meant to be, you know . So its really a great project. I am really happy about it. I mean, here i am in San Francisco on the great tv station, you know, talking about it. So, you know, it continues on. But Crystal Gardens is a band thats from the heart. Oh, i should tell you about how the name came about. I live in the country. There is a lot of rock and a lot of crystals. A lot of the guys go out and collect them. They have so much power and vibration. Everybody had a crystal in the sessions. That was a big part of it. Are you wearing some . I am wearing a bunch of crystals here in my pocket. I do have some of the crystals from the crystal garden. Nice. I have got the mic in here now, the box. Awesome. I always have them. Boyd tinsley. Thanks for coming by, man. Absolutely.
