Yeah, we had a vehicle, a San Francisco ambulance stolen out of the tenderloin and ended up crashing after a pursuit at the Treasure Island east bay bridge. Could not quite make that turn into the tight turn. Burst into flames. The Fire Department put it out. One person was taken into custody. This was in the 7 00 hour. Pace why cannily crashed at about 8 10 or so. Since you cannot get off the Treasure Island, you can see how terrible that traffic is. I have drawn a line. This is a bad afternoon commute. See how bad it just turned out. Part of it is because you cant get off Treasure Island. You can clearly see whats going on as you drive by on the bay bridge. Lets go to alex savidge who is driving in this terrible traffic trying to get into traffic its pretty bad, i hear reporter good morning to you, sal. I can confirm that the traffic is terrible. It is absolutely snarled eastbound going into San Francisco. We were on the way to city hall as this happened. We are trying to get on the freeway eastbound. Trying to get on 8th street, east street. You could not ge. Finally got on the freeway at bryant and we are now making our way eastbound we are up on the span right now and still bumper to bumper up here. We are coming to a spot where we are now having a better vantage on this accident. This is an ambulance that was stolen. The ambulance crashed. Heading east on the bay bridge, this is the exit on the left hand side for Treasure Island and as you rightly point out, sal, it is a very, very tight turn. If you are going fast, especially in Something Like an ambulance, there is no doubt that you would easily lose control going around a turn like that. That would appear thats the case here. The ambulance crashed, burst into flames. We are working to get more information about the condition of this person involved in the crash. There could be some injuries but the person is now in custody after this pursuit. Well be at the scene shortly and hopefully well get more information. Well hear from you as we get there the San Francisco Police Department say that it was an adult female take nine custody. Right. Mike and gasia, no injuries but that ambulance unit, they say, is a total loss after being up on that guardrail. And, you know, lots of times, as a traffic reporter, i have seen that turn causing problems. You have to take it slow there. Yes. The patient being treated got help from another medic unit. So the patient was not put in any difficulty. They had to call another ambulance and that patient is okay. Yes. A moment ago, there was a big line of people and they managed to clear that line quickly. We are thinking that when the light changes nearby, well start to see more people dropping off more ballots because its been busy. But voter turnout is on the minds of everyone since the announcement by the Associated Press that Hillary Clinton has enough delegates to secure the nomination. House minority leader, nancy pelosi, endorsed the leader. She is confident but not done a done deal yet. We are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment. Reporter and there is word Hillary Clinton may pick up the endorsement from president obama himself. Despite the word, Neither Campaign is taking a break. Thousands turned up for the rally for vermont senator. Sanders reportedly had a phone conversation with the president over the week. At this point, sanders says its too early to call the race. If we can win here in california, win in south dakota, north dakota, montana, new mexico, do well in new jersey, were going to go into that convention with enormous momentum. A south bay judge is getting sit sized criticized for his criticized for his sentencing of a swimmer from stanford. Janine de la vega is live now. She told me that the online petition to remove that judge from the bench wont do anything legally. And thats why she has started her own official webpage to recall judge aaron percentky. She is spearheading that effort. He sentenced 20yearold brock turner to six months in jail as prosecutors asked for six years in prison. He was convicted of sexually assaulting an intoxicated person behind a dumpster. The judge said this was approach the due to the lack of criminal history. But that sparked a lot of outrage. This stanford professor set up the webpage. We did speak with a legal analyst before about this recall effort. He feels the recall would have a chilling eel affect on other judges. If you are a judge in another case and probably has to be a highprofile case where people are paying attention and you think, well, i really should not sentence him to the max but i dont want to be recall, but plain and simply, sh mud this should nod be not done in this case. The professor says that recalling a judge is a unique and specific area of the law. At stanford, students are still upset about. San bruno police are asking for the publics help to identify three people who may have been planning to burglarize a home last month. Police released photos of two people standing outside of a home on oakmont drive. They toll the homeowner that they were waiting for somebody to pick them up. Later, Surveillance Video shows that thefts picked up by a white honda. Earlier, they were dropped off by the same car. That led police to think that they were going to break into the home and police are asking out to look video of this man who stole thousands of dollars in gift cards from massage envy. Anyone with information is asked to Call Mountain view police. Its been determined that the man suspected of shooting two Fremont Police officers last week died after shooting himself. 44yearold gerald villabrea shot himself after barricading himself inside of a home. The Alameda County coroner says that an autopsy revealed that he died in a selfinflicted gunshot wound to the head. The officers he is accused of shooting are still recovering in the hospital. One is making Good Progress while the other is making Good Progress. Today, the San Francisco city council is looking into shielding people from hiv or a. I. D. S. To be protected. If approved, the protections could go into effect as soon as next month. And more information is coming out about the funeral for boxing legend muhammady, scheduled for friday. Back to breaking news we have been following for you in the past hour. An ambulance stolen in San Francisco was wrecked on Treasure Island creating a huge traffic mess thismorning. Absolutely. Alex savidge waited through all that traffic. You are now on scene. Reporter this is a pretty incredible scene. This is the stolen San Francisco Fire Department ambulance. Can you see what hard here. It crashed and ultimately caught fire here. Now, in all of this, the woman who was behind the wheel who police say stole this ambulance this morning was not hurt. She was able to get out of the ambulance before it caught fire. But just in terps of the location, we are at the Treasure Island off ramp from eastbound, the eastbound bay bridge. As that tight turn on the left hand side as you get off the brimming and obviously she was going far too fast to navigate that turn, crashed the stolen ambulance following a Police Pursuit this morning. Now, i want to bring you Jonathan Baxter with the San Francisco Fire Department. This was stolen outside of the ambassador hotel. Medics 65 which was driving this ambulance here went to 55 mason street on a nonlife threatening emergency. They went in, treated the patient. When they came back out, the ambulance was gone. They requested another ape plains by radio. Later after, that the police picked up the ambulance because they have a tracking system. Right. There is an avl. They engaged in pursuit of this vehicle. This one at moderate speed over the bay bridge. California Highway Patrol was advised and respond to assist but did not engage in the pursuit. That pursuit ended here where it cantilevered into the cement barrier. The suspect got out and was and helped. And that suspect was not hurt, and its surprising due to the damage. She was offered medical attention and she refused it. We actually just asked if she wanted medical care and she again refused any. Reporter the crew with this ambulance, did it leave it running . They always leave it running. Yeah. How was the would able to get inside . This is one of the older ambulances. This draws a lot of power out of the ambulance. If you leave the ambulance off, and the lights are on a timer, they dont go off. There is a possibility that the batteries can drain and your ambulance wont restart. On these older ambulances, theyll leave the ambulance running which his a position with the older ones in the keys in the ignition but the doors are still locked. Right now, all the external doors with the exception of the driver door were in the locked position after this incident. You dont know how she got in. We dont know how she got in. Was it broken. The windows were down. Dont know if it was broken from the impact or prior to that. Obviously you will do a full investigation. Police pursuing this ambulance when the woman behind the wheel crashed here, getting off the bay bridge. That ambulance burst into flames. Traffic on 880 eastbound is backed many from that old candlestick exit all the way through. This will have an effect on city traffic throughout the morning because its going to take a while to get off. And its hard to get off that exit and people passing by will want to see what is going on because you caney all of that traffic is so bad these days in the afternoon, starts almost at 1 00 or 2 00.
