Topping the news is the Pittsburg City Council now taking action to prevent more free way shootings in the east bay. The council planned to approve action to install surveillance cameras on the freeway. Alex savidge joins us with more on the push for the cameras reporter these may be the first cameras installed along the freeway here in the bay area, specifically to deter crime. The plan that they have here is to install as many as 10 surveillance cameras. They will be installed along this particular stretch the highway, about a four mile stretch. The police chief here in this city is the one who pushed for these cameras in response to a number of recent shootings in this area. Pittsburg already have Surveillance Video cameras up along city streets. The City Council Last Night unanimously approved the plan to install them along highway 4. They had a lot of shootings here. Investigators believe that the ongoing violence along this stretch of free way is likely gang related. They do not believe these have been random attacks. They do not believe that those who drive along this stretch have been on edge and are hoping that the cameras could make a difference. Should slow it down a little bit. I dont know people around here do what they want. Its scary. If theyre going to shoot along the freeway, theyll shoot, anyway. I think its going to be more for the speeding. Reporter there was just another contra costa shooting yesterday afternoon in the area in neighboring antioch. People in different cars exchanging gunfire on the freeway but the good news that is nobody was hit in that case and also police were able to take four people into custody following that shootout. The Pittsburg City Council has earmarked 100,000 to install these surveillance cameras. Well wait to see when theyll be up and running. This could happen elsewhere soon as well. Mayors in western contra costa county, we understand, may try to put together a plan, you guys, to get the money and petition the state to install some cameras along a stretch of interstate 80 where they had a number of recent shootings. It happened about 1 30 this morning at 9th and mission streets. Police say two men apparently argued on the 14 mission bus. The suspect stabbed the victim in the torso and ran away. The victim was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survivor. No arrest so far and the investigation continues. A fourth Oakland Police officer has been put on paid administrative leave because of an investigation into possible misconduct involving a young girl. The investigation started last fall after a Police Officer committed suicide and reportedly left behind a note detailing accusations of Sexual Activity between Police Officers and a girl who reportedly was 16 years old at the time. So far, the Oakland Police department has not identified the officers who have been placed on leave. The city of san jose is expected to take a stand today against states that have recently adopted controversial laws against the Lgbt Community. The San Jose City council will consider banning nonessential city travel and business with North Carolina and mississippi. North carolina passed a law that requires transgender people to use bathrooms based on the gender on their birth certificate.
